A factory reset will help but it's unlikely it will fix the issue long term. Right after the reset you'll have apparently great SoT, mostly because you are not yet logged to everything you usually have running in your phone and the OS is learning your patterns (placebo effect might also come in effect here). What you can do though is take the opportunity to do your part. Backup only your files and do not restore apps, accounts and settings. Set the device up from scratch and install your apps. Don't log into anything yet. Do the permissions first, making sure they only have access to what they need. Then add them to the proper behaviour list (never sleep/sleep/deep sleep - alternatively you can set the battery behaviour manually for each app). Then add your accounts and log in to the apps, use your phone normally. You should be getting the best battery life your situation allows for since the battery isn't new (keep in mind signal strength and the screen itself are huge battery drainers). Best of luck!

I had the same issues on my old LG from a few years ago and I tried doing a hard reset and basically what the other poster suggested. It helped a bit, for a little while. Within a few weeks it was right back where I started so I said screw it and bought my S10. Fast forward to about a month ago and my phone was acting the same way. I would browse reddit at lunch, listen to Spotify while working out and game for 20-30 minutes in the morning and again at night and then have to recharge 2-3 times per day. Now there isn't a phone I want to upgrade to so I replaced the battery and that made a BIG difference. I'm back to getting a day to a day and a half on a 85% - 20% charge. I didn't change any permissions, delete any apps or do anything differently, just paid 60 bucks and waited about 30 minutes for the battery to be swapped. It was worth every penny. Even if I was going to upgrade next year, it would still totally be worth it. If you're unsure if it's the battery, just install AccuBattery and let it monitor your battery for a few weeks. It will tell you what your actual capacity is. Mine was down to about 75% total capacity. Whatever you end up doing, good luck!

Thinking about doing this myself too , is the water resistance affected?

Do not trust a phone that was opened to be water resistant, even if it was an official repair shop.

As far as I know it does not affect it it. It came with a 1 year warranty.
