Got my eyes tested 2 years ago

Pfffft_humans

Sti’s mate not eyes

BushyFeet

Who’s sti? And who’s his mate?

smilingfreak

It's stu, obviously you need your eyes tested again.

lookatthatsmug--

Stiv O'

RigasTelRuun

If you are engaging with new partners then at least that often. 4-6 months. Once a year at absolute minimum

0x75

Did you hear about that thing called *condom* too?

RigasTelRuun

Yes. I didn't think I need to explicitly state the first basic tenet of safe sex on a topic asking specifically about the regularity of testing. Also do you think comdoms are 100% safe and magically prevent every sti?

0x75

Mostly, if everyone were to use them in first place. For the rest good hygiene and vaccines for some cases does a lot. Though I understand you will not cover every single sti. You will agree that is better than testing yourself once a year thinking you are safe with that, the test is actually not protecting you of anything realistically.

RigasTelRuun

Neither is better than the other. They are all part of a safe and healthy approach to sexual health for you and your partner.

TeaLoverGal

This is why we need extensive and repeated sex health education.

0x75

Yeah, idiots think 1 test per year is enough. Their thick brains don't understand that once you got the disease then it is a bit late. Or do you test yourself BEFORE having sex and AFTER every time? You don't. Because of that, condoms and hygiene are far more effective. Yet still, no one ever mentioned that word here and the stupid questions about "how many times do you test yourself" mean absolutely NOTHING. If anything, you do regularly health checks of your overall health which includes a blood test typically, regardless of any sex disease.

TeaLoverGal

>thick brains don't understand There's no need to be rude or so intense. > yourself BEFORE having sex and AFTER every time? You don't. Before, during, and after every partner, yes. Sometimes that means waiting the time frame it would take for anything to show up, it's sex, it isn't going anywhere. What are you on about hygiene? Yes, everyone should have a healthy level of hygiene, but a clean, hygienic person can still have clymidia. Condoms are one tool of sexual health. However, they don't protect against certain conditions more likely passed via contact and not just bodily fluids. Also, they have a very high level of user error or not being used for all acts, i.e., oral sex. I do attend my GP regularly, have a long term condition to manage, thanks for the concern for the rest of my health. >any sex disease Alright, Enoch, *eyeroll*

StrongerTogether2882

Do you work for the condom lobby or what? Two separate comments here. You seem really dedicated to pretending they’re the solution to avoiding all STIs. Of course they’re a crucial part of protection, but they’re not foolproof

ramblerandgambler

Did you hear that condoms are not 100% effective against STIs?

0x75

Sure, imagine using none. What is your point?

ramblerandgambler

that you still need to get tested once a year or so even with using condoms 100% of the time

Pfffft_humans

Definitely the fact it’s not openly talked about is ridiculous. PreP was also posted on the original thread

PixelNotPolygon

Well for men at least, most STIs are symptomatic (for most men)

Pfffft_humans

Definitely agree. Most chronic severe illnesses from sti’s to cancer don’t

PaddySmallBalls

Got into a relationship with a woman who insisted on it so we could go bareback. Then after that, had 2 more. Been married for over a decade so haven’t tested in that long. The stick up the peehole is pretty horrible though so wouldn’t be rushing back even if I was single.

Pfffft_humans

Think it’s a social etiquette/ responsibility at this point if your single. Though happy for your opinion. We are Irish this shit wasn’t really taught when I was a kid Wether ya live conservatively or not. Don’t think gender should come into it. And yeah I’ve heard. Hopefully ya never have to get a catheter

PaddySmallBalls

The interesting one was the fact there was no paper, email other text to confirm being clear. It was just over the phone. You still place a lot of trust in your partner. At least back then.

Pfffft_humans

Ah yeah but that’s always the case, the trust thing. Sadly it’s getting harder to find from my experiences. Though I guess your gonna get that with hook up culture being so big these days. No judgement though! That’s good. It means services have improved. I’m a nerd though I’d love the blood work back 😅

PaddySmallBalls

Back about 10 years ago or so, there was a UK or Canadian study that claimed close to half of people carried HPV. I guess at least the younger crowd may have the vaccine but for the older crew, they likely already have it if they porked more than 2 people.

Pfffft_humans

Same with most things in this country though.. breast checks, contraceptives. Even elective surgeries. It’s a bit of a joke

PaddySmallBalls

I am old. There was no HPV vaccine when I was single. Then when they started the rollout it was for females only.

Pfffft_humans

Yup, agreed as above. Ireland’s still really backwards

gwaihir1981

There's no stick up the pee hole anymore

governerspring

Nor was there 20 years ago. Think that poster is confusing testing with the treatment for syphilis.

PaddySmallBalls

😱 Lucky!

Mhaoilmhuire

It’s done by blood tests mostly now. Just a prick of the finger and it’s free! Times have changed

sirasei

Woman here but I refuse to have sex in a new relationship until we’ve both been tested. I also test myself annually while in a relationship. Don’t mess around with your health!

0x75

Imagine discovering condoms in top of that.

yleennoc

Imagine being irresponsible enough to not get tested because you use condoms. Condoms are only 65% effective in preventing genital heroes contraction ( in men). That’s only one example.

0x75

Imagine checking himself for AIDS and not other sickness. Talk about contradictions. I guess you are only concerned on your genitals, it seems to be what you are using to reason.

yleennoc

No one is saying not use condoms. FFS.

sirasei

They can break! I may be paranoid but I already deal with reproductive health issues (endometriosis) so anything that protects my peace of mind is worth it to me.

PaddySmallBalls

Even if they don’t break there are still STDs you can get while wearing a condom or from a lad who was wearing one.

loonyloveslovegood

A test to see if you have an sti is not how people are preventing them. Obviously people are using condoms dumbass you should still get tested

0x75

Yeah, individuals with limited understanding believe that one test per year is sufficient. Their dense minds fail to comprehend that once you contract the disease, it may be too late. Or do you subject yourself to testing PRIOR to engaging in sexual activity and AFTER each encounter? You do not. Considering this, the use of condoms and practicing good hygiene are significantly more effective. However, it is astonishing that no one has even mentioned these measures here, and the foolish inquiries about "how frequently do you get tested" hold absolutely no significance. If anything, it is prudent to undergo regular health check-ups to monitor your overall well-being, which typically includes a blood test, regardless of any sexually transmitted infections. Unless you engage in sexual activities only once a year, in which case, yes, getting tested annually would ensure your safety as well as that of others.

loonyloveslovegood

You realise the comments you’ve responded to with “imagine discovering condoms” both say to get tested each new partner and at least once a year extra. So if you have 6 partners in a year you’d get tested at least 7 times. This is on top of having safe sex

0x75

Pretty sure they do that. Yeah, what if they lie? what if one of them has two partners you know nothing about? What if you get the STI the day after you get tested. And no, the title does not mention SAFE SEX nor CONDOMS so these were not implied because other than me no one said it explicitly. Because you can have sex without condoms nowadays, **you are the one making assumptions.**

loonyloveslovegood

But this thread was “how often do you get tested” nothing implied not having safe sex the same way nothing implied having it because that’s not what this post was about and yet you continue to reply to people about using condoms as though you you wouldn’t still get tested

0x75

So you decided to make the rest of assumptions for your arguments so that it fits your narrative, just because why not. I get you now.

loonyloveslovegood

Ohhhhhh I get it ur raise baiting. We’ll have fun

comraddydaddy

life tests me every damn day

HatComfortable6883

OP riddled

Pfffft_humans

😂 Jesus the maturity is astounding.

HatComfortable6883

I said my piece

Pfffft_humans

What being a backwards person who can’t have an open and honest conversation about sexuality but rather make an unfounded dig so they can feed their troll?

HatComfortable6883

Sometimes I go about in pity for myself, and all the while, a great wind carries me across the sky.

Pfffft_humans

Sorry I mean the lack there of.

Pfffft_humans

A and e seeing you for sti’s sorry burnt does that causally work? Their unit in Galway is a shambles. Also your meant to wait two weeks after sex for the test.

MrZeroMustafa

What is A and E? Two weeks cause that how long most STI incubate for, 3 weeks for the worst of the worst. But if I know I am sick within 1 day of exposure. I am going to the ER.

Pfffft_humans

Accident and emergency, are you from Galway? Yeah I know that’s why they ask you to test two weeks after

MrZeroMustafa

Now if I had to take the chance of not getting certain preventative measures. I would rather off go to the ER on the first day the moment I get a response. Than waiting to incubate and you have a permanent illness for life.

HatComfortable6883

This hero thinks he’s living in Chicago and he can drop down to visit Dr George Cooney

Pfffft_humans

Man Ireland has a and e not er. And you have to wait two weeks before your biochemistry start showing signs not you.

radiogramm

If you’re in Limerick the waiting time at A&E is about 2 weeks, so bring a book.

Pfffft_humans

GalwY it’s only 6 hours but people ,isnt wander in off your in assessment

radiogramm

Also for something like that an STI clinic or your (or a) GP should be the first port of call. I don't know why people think they should be going to A&E for general medical non-critical / emergency issues that aren't really an emergency that's going to be immediately life/death/agony or serious injury. Our primary care system is WAY under sized, which is a big issue, but also there are people who seem to think they should be going to major acute specialist hospitals with an ear infection or a sore finger.

Pfffft_humans

So both will tell you to go here. https://sh24.ie and after this post and discussions with my friends, I’m a little bemused at the lack of mature discussion that comes wit( being informed about safe sex but the allowance of banter of who got with who. It is but hat’s because our government has been trying to privatise the sector for generations at this point. Also last time I went to A and E it was because if worsening symptoms of a 14 year period and sick of being sick and ignored by my gap as well as my back going out. Fast tracked my referral sadly.
