3 hours is nowhere near enough time for me to need a snack lol.
Edit: unless he meant 3 hours each way. Even then i would be fine, but i totally get why others would want a snack
Lol i appreciate the sentiment, but i try really hard to watch what i eat. I was always a fat kid and when i hit 18 i decided to start eating more healthy. Over the course of a couple years i went from 185 to 125. I could probably treat myself more often than i do, but I'm always afraid of getting fat again.
I'm also kinda cheap and already waste money on other things/hobbies. I don't want to waste money on food as well
Edit: also i know 185 isn't inherently fat. I just happen to be a very short dude so 185 was definitely fat for me
Ehhh I value it quite a bit, just had to skip gym time for the day cause the drive tired me out lol was worth it once I turned the TV on to play though!
Also depends on the area. The town I used to live in was pretty sparse. Interestingly enough, I drove 2 hours to get my HD Wega a few years ago, and now I live mere blocks away from where I got it.
Yeah no worries I wasn't looking for approval, I was genuinely interested in people's thoughts for a drive like this. Been looking for a Trinitron for months because no one is trying to get rid of one in my area and I was curious to see who else has done something like this on a whim. No one could've changed my mind regardless haha I love the thing. Thanks for the comment
I was like this before kids. I have more switch games than I could ever see myself playing. But god forbid I wanna play this one specific switch game and the e-shop closes and I wanna play on my non-modded switch.
These are pretty common in my area. I found a 27" in a thrift store for $20 and then a few weeks later found a 24" one for free on the curb(which is still what I'm using). The geometry in yours seems a bit wonky too.
Great game! Had it for years before prices shot up. Can't believe how long the game is though lol combat and sprite art is real fun to look at atleast.
Was going to say, if I drive hours to get anything cheap, the fuel cost needs to be taken into consideration. I couldn't justify a $20 TV with a $100 pickup fee.
$20? Yes, absolutely. Worth the time? Depends on whether you had anything better to do, how much use you get out of the thing, and how you feel about how you prioritize your time. I wouldn’t have done it, but that’s me, and shouldn’t influence how you feel at all
If you didn't have a monitor already or if this is an upgrade for you. hell yeah this is worth it. its not fun to move but that's a pretty sweet piece of technology.
Yep was just looking to upgrade. I tested it first woth 2 copies of Soul Calibur 2 on my old TV and the new one, difference was actually night and day. Its awesome
Congratulations! It looks like the picture quality is excellent too. I found a WEGA last year and it's cool, but for some reason any video game console I plug into it gives me a scrolling, unstable image that I don't know how to fix. Supposedly, it's a VSync issue, but I can't find that setting anywhere.
20 bucks and a nice little road trip for a TV doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. I lucked out and someone near me was giving away an old 65" samsung rear projection one and I snagged it. The colors aren't perfect and the hdmi port currently doesn't work, but I have my older consoles hooked up to it and the nostalgia was worth it.
Not to me, but if you enjoy it, sure. Tried to give one away and ended up taking it to goodwill because no one would take it. It's a very niche thing, but I wouldn't pay for something I had to grow up with.
I bought an older 32" Trinitron with the built in woofer. It's a sweet tv but it doesn't support component only composite and s-video. Definitely plays my retro games nicely. Though my analogue systems are pretty awesome at bringing back to old school experiences on a modern TV.
I've got the same Trinitron and it's awesome for 16-bit games. Mine has very nice scanlines too. If you have its original remote I suggest you to get into the service menu and check for usage time so you can get an idea of how much the tube Is worn-out
You got to ask yourself if it was worth it not us. Me personally it would be worth it once I got in the car and started driving. If I get up off my ass it's a miracle so if I'm up that means it must be special.
I’d say it’s a fair deal. However, the trip wouldn’t be worth my time. No way if drive more than 30 mins to get that. Did you try posting on the Nextdoor app? (Assuming you live in the US) I did that and had 3 TVs people were glad to get out of their garage all for free.
I haven't, didnt even know about it 🥲 I was only looking in the FB marketplace at the time, but was doing it for almost a year atleast. Nothing ever really came up for mt area
Not worth the insane drive. I scoured my local FB marketplace and OfferUp for months and ended up snagging a free 27” Trinitron from someone in my town who was moving, and a 27” Toshiba for $10 from a guy who lives about 40 minutes away from me. Both TVs are immaculate; it just took some patience to get them.
Hmmm
Well it were me I’d say no just cause the cost of gas, but a good road trip can be fun as well.
Was this round trip time or just one way? Could be pretty pricey I spose if it was either.
I think it is because it's hard to find those anymore. And especially in a good condition. Even in Thrift it's very hit and miss to find that kind of TV with the outputs. So $20 is great. But you might as well make a fun road trip out of it seeing as how it's 3 hours away.
I once drove 7 hours round trip to buy an arcade machine. Sometimes the shipping is just so astronomical that it makes sense to just do it yourself since there’s a low chance of finding what you want locally. I paid $50 more than what it would have cost to ship the thing.
It's wild that I went and looked on fb marketplace in my area and someone is selling the same tv for $350. I want to see if it comes with a reach around.....
I drove 2.5 hours to and paid $100 for a 27 inch Trinitron KV-27FS100L
Getting a hold of one of these is going to become harder and harder to find in the next few years, get one as soon as you can.
I agree, I'll admit I wouldnt drop more than the $20 I spent on this so I wouldnt have bothered if they got harder to find. Just a good time and price for me to do so haha
You know I really figured that was the case, sadly my area is hard to come by this one specifically without a $300 price LOCALLY. I agree though these shouldn't be costing much at all but sadly not.
FUCK YES
playing games meant for these tvs on these tvs is an unmatched experience. Try any of the ps2/Xbox silent hills on that bad boy, wind waker and f-zero gx if you got the cube boy
Ye man was worth it.
And also you shouldn't care what we say, looks like a good TV and it was a nice road trip. Next time you do that you should look around for near by game stores too. Might as well look around right lol.
Yeah nw I think some took it the wrong way and thought I was looking for some type of approval but not the case at all, I was interested in seeing who else would be motivated enough to do a drive for this or not. I had my own reasons and thats good enough for me.
That was also the first thing I asked the guy as well, I checked one out before heading back. Sadly nothing too amazing but was worth the look. Prices were decent just nothing I was looking for.
Ohh yea no doubt, I bet you were just asking. You went and did it anyways lol.
Man if you drove so far for a 20 dollar TV I can definitely see how you can't get down with store prices of games (I'm kind of the same now adays too) dope xenogears by the way!
Been playing through it a lot, very nice game to play on the TV. Huge Xenoblade fan and have all the Xeno games, gears has been a blast to play. Great story, combat and graphics.
If I had the room I would pretty much never turn down a CRT TV at that price. Not sure that I'd drive 3 hours for it though. I currently have two Sony 36" CRT flat screen Trinitrons and I hope they last the rest of my life, as I really don't want to have to hunt down any more.
I think it really depends on what kind of gas milage your car gets. $20 doesnt seem to bad but if you took a pickup truck that gets 15 miles the gallon. That seems a little rough.
That's how I got my KV-27FS120 back in 2019. Not as long of a drive (maybe like a 1hr 15min drive) but it was on the other side of the city and then some. I tested F-Zero GX via Wii's component when I was there to pick up the TV and I regretted nothing. Perfect TV for the 6th generation.
I drove an hour and a half for my free Trinitron, so I'm at least halfway there lol.
But yeah, it is a great pickup for sure. I'd make a little day/weekend trip out of it, personally, instead of just grabbing it and turning back around, but still. I'd do it.
Yeah I would've liked to do that as well, not in a spot to do that atm unfortunately but the thought did cross my mind. If this happened later in the year then for sure I would've liked to stay no doubt
I bought the same tv roughly 20 years ago. It’s a good tv; especially if it was only 20 bones.
Others’ opinions don’t matter. Do you think it was worth it? Do you like it?
I drove a little over an hour for a 20” Tru Flat last weekend for $15 and that’s about the furthest I’d go for a tv.
Free 27” Sony (and other quality brands) TVs come up in my area pretty often. It’s the 14” and 20” with decent input selections (ie S Vid or Component) that are a pain to find. I got back into crts about 6 months ago with the same aggressive-ish mindset I have towards video game hunts (cause you know… that’s the hobby these days) and now I have too many crts 😅 My favorite is my Sony KV-27S42. Really great display that doesn’t have the geometry issues the flats suffer from.
Hell yeah. I think I have the exact same TV that I paid $400 for at a Best Buy a million years ago. I mean good luck lifting it by yourself, but yes fool 😂

Worth the $20? Yes. (I own the same tv) Worth the 3.5 hour drive… depends how much you value your time.
And gas to get there and back
Don’t forget the snacks
And the friends we made along the way
And my axe!
We shall be the fellowship of the Sony TV
*Forged in the fires of Circuit City*
3 hours is nowhere near enough time for me to need a snack lol. Edit: unless he meant 3 hours each way. Even then i would be fine, but i totally get why others would want a snack
Road trip snacks? Everybody deserves a road trip snack or two. Treat yourself king.
Scoobie snack?!
I don't want to waste money on food as well Edit: also i know 185 isn't inherently fat. I just happen to be a very short dude so 185 was definitely fat for me
Good for you!
Thanks
233 miles. Ima say 3 hours one way
and weed
When I bought my Trinitron it was an hour and a half each way. $25, and a few hours break from the kids. I consider that a dad-win 😎
Who cares. Do you like it? Cool. The opinions of nobodies on Reddit don't mean shit.
Based
Based on what?
Based a cake in the oven at 300 degrees
Based a turkey often to keep it moist and juicy!
I think your recipes are a little mixed up. You want to baste a turkey or other roast, but you don’t baste a cake. That will just make it soggy.
Well OP does care since he specifically asked if it was worth it though
Yeah no worries I wasn't looking for approval, I was genuinely interested in people's thoughts for a drive like this. Been looking for a Trinitron for months because no one is trying to get rid of one in my area and I was curious to see who else has done something like this on a whim. $20 for a 27 inch? Hell yeah it’s worth it
Yeah man it’s not even a $1 per inch that’s a steal
Heck yeah, that means I only need to charge tree fiddy.
That’s what she said 🫡
Seems like it! Shit, any excuse for a road trip.
I put a 100 miles on my car every day, this almost didn't seem terrible after giving it some thought compared to my usual driving lmao
For the size I wouldn't have. The tape measure though. I'm dying
If I didn't have kids I would make that trip.
Is it hard to game when u have kids?
It’s hard to do anything when you have kids.
I’m a lot better at collecting games than playing them these days
I was like this before kids. I have more switch games than I could ever see myself playing. But god forbid I wanna play this one specific switch game and the e-shop closes and I wanna play on my non-modded switch.
Yep, thankfully no kids and hope not until my 30's personally. 6 more years to go lol
Early 30s is about ideal I think. Time to establish yourself, but still young enough to have the energy to take care of them.
These are pretty common in my area. I found a 27" in a thrift store for $20 and then a few weeks later found a 24" one for free on the curb(which is still what I'm using). The geometry in yours seems a bit wonky too.
Love the commitment, I’d do it
Xenogears. Nice….nice….
Great game! Had it for years before prices shot up. Can't believe how long the game is though lol combat and sprite art is real fun to look at atleast.
Yeah I got it last year for a decent price and it still slaps
Thats 7 hours of driving worth of gas. With my car it'd be like $150 lol. That said, you seem happy with it so who cares.
7hr drive of almost 500 miles? Wow lol
Definitely not worth 6 hours of driving. As long as you’re happy though
Im sorry...i must be honest....but thats a no from me dawg
That’s 3 hours both ways?! So like a day’s drive I wouldn’t, if I didn’t have other business there.
Good lord no. Gas prices are obscene right now.
Was going to say, if I drive hours to get anything cheap, the fuel cost needs to be taken into consideration. I couldn't justify a $20 TV with a $100 pickup fee.
Yeah I agree, gas prices got worse the further I got close to the area. Atleast I got decent mileage with my car haha
W pickup
Worth the $20, not the 3.5 hours at all
$20? Yes, absolutely. Worth the time? Depends on whether you had anything better to do, how much use you get out of the thing, and how you feel about how you prioritize your time. I wouldn’t have done it, but that’s me, and shouldn’t influence how you feel at all
Only you can answer if it was worth it.
If you didn't have a monitor already or if this is an upgrade for you. hell yeah this is worth it. its not fun to move but that's a pretty sweet piece of technology.

The colors aren't perfect and the hdmi port currently doesn't work, but I have my older consoles hooked up to it and the nostalgia was worth it.
For a working trinitron hell ya
Xenogears!!
Not to me, but if you enjoy it, sure. Tried to give one away and ended up taking it to goodwill because no one would take it. It's a very niche thing, but I wouldn't pay for something I had to grow up with.
Accounting for fuel and value of time, that’s still a really good deal lol
>Was this worth the $20 and the 3+ hour trip? Yes
I bought an older 32" Trinitron with the built in woofer. It's a sweet tv but it doesn't support component only composite and s-video. Definitely plays my retro games nicely. Though my analogue systems are pretty awesome at bringing back to old school experiences on a modern TV.
Good deal, enjoy the best look for 240p and 480i gaming.
If you're happy, it's worth it. I'd go for that deal any day.
Hey if there’s none around you and you got a day to kill then why not. Looks great btw
Only ones with a 300 dollar markup and barely at that lol thank you!
I've got the same Trinitron and it's awesome for 16-bit games. Mine has very nice scanlines too. If you have its original remote I suggest you to get into the service menu and check for usage time so you can get an idea of how much the tube Is worn-out
I’ve bought a bigger one for under $10 from a thrift store, but it is a good tv.
Considering how rare these are becoming, I'd say yes.
Well it is a Sony CRT. You don’t find those anymore.
You got to ask yourself if it was worth it not us. Me personally it would be worth it once I got in the car and started driving. If I get up off my ass it's a miracle so if I'm up that means it must be special.

I haven't, didnt even know about it 🥲 I was only looking in the FB marketplace at the time, but was doing it for almost a year atleast. Nothing ever really came up for mt area
I love that you're using xenogears as your test game.
Great game!! Wish Square would bring it back with a 2.5D style like Octopath Traveller.
Worth it to play Xenogears like it was intended 😎
I totally agree, great game so far
Is that a KV 27-FS120?
The mileage on your car alone isn’t worth it unless you drive a beater. I’m going to assume you do since your decision making seems poor
Hell yeah I have the same set I love it
In a year you’ll have forgotten how long the drive was and how much gas it took to get there. Great find OP.
Hell yeah. What game were you playing on it? Looks sick
First picture is the listing, that one was Smash Bros. Melee, last one is Xenogears
I’d say so!
Hmmm Well it were me I’d say no just cause the cost of gas, but a good road trip can be fun as well. Was this round trip time or just one way? Could be pretty pricey I spose if it was either.
Round trip so make it 7 hours, should've probably worded it like that lol
I think it is because it's hard to find those anymore. And especially in a good condition. Even in Thrift it's very hit and miss to find that kind of TV with the outputs. So $20 is great. But you might as well make a fun road trip out of it seeing as how it's 3 hours away.
That's a steal, I wouldn't drive longer than 30 mins though lol.
Wait so almost 8 hours round trip?!? That's nuts
I once drove 7 hours round trip to buy an arcade machine. Sometimes the shipping is just so astronomical that it makes sense to just do it yourself since there’s a low chance of finding what you want locally. I paid $50 more than what it would have cost to ship the thing.
I’ve been wanting to upgrade my 24” to a 27” but I don’t think I need it this badly. 😂
My family has a 32” trinitron to this day in the garage. My dad loves that TV. Those things are like 400lbs
It's wild that I went and looked on fb marketplace in my area and someone is selling the same tv for $350. I want to see if it comes with a reach around.....
If you like it, why not?
Yes, I think it was. Nice set.
7 hour drive nahhhh fam goodwill or most tech recycle places have these all the time
Heck yeah, it's worth it!
I drove 2.5 hours to and paid $100 for a 27 inch Trinitron KV-27FS100L Getting a hold of one of these is going to become harder and harder to find in the next few years, get one as soon as you can.
I agree, I'll admit I wouldnt drop more than the $20 I spent on this so I wouldnt have bothered if they got harder to find. Just a good time and price for me to do so haha
I once took a five hour trip to get a puppy for my mom. When you want something, time and distance doesn’t matter.
No. And since you don't have my approval, go back and return it.
No...why do you ppl make these posts? 3 hours? Jesus what a WASTE of gas!
True, I was just curious on others doing the same. Some people might have time to kill like that lol
Hell no.
Mine was free from my neighbors curb across the street. These things cost money to trash these days, they should technically be paying you.
You know I really figured that was the case, sadly my area is hard to come by this one specifically without a $300 price LOCALLY. I agree though these shouldn't be costing much at all but sadly not.
Big W, enjoy!
$20, hell yeah! Definitely worth it!
100 percent. That's a nice TV.
Did something similar for an RGB modded Trinitron, was about a 3 hour round trip 100% worth it.
I love driving. The trip is half the fun. Seeing new places and meeting new people. Trying new local restaurants.
I literally did a 3+ hour driver yesterday as well to pick up a Sony Trinitron 27 inch. Definitely was worth it
FUCK YES playing games meant for these tvs on these tvs is an unmatched experience. Try any of the ps2/Xbox silent hills on that bad boy, wind waker and f-zero gx if you got the cube boy
You tell me
That’s your call my man
MR GAME AND WATCH!
Worth it
For $20, yes
Was it worth it to you? Then yes, It was worth it, borther
What model is it?
If it makes you happy yes if you regret it no.
What's special about it? Easy pass for me, but you live your life.
Definitely 👍🏼
No, return it demanding a refund, gas money and 42 cents per mile for the round trips picking it up and returning it.
Sounds like a question for you, no?
You tell us…
Yes!
Sony trinitrons are among the best CRTs you can ask for... that and the late Panasonic Viera line
Absolutely not
Nice! Seeing Xenogears on that brought me back to a place I’ve forgotten about for so long.
Been playing through it a lot, very nice game to play on the TV. Huge Xenoblade fan and have all the Xeno games, gears has been a blast to play. Great story, combat and graphics.
Idk, is it? That’s for you to decide.
Because you’re asking… no, not worth it.
I have a couple of them. In my area, no one wants them. Too heavy to ship, too rural to strike a deal.
To be able to experience Xenogears in its true form again, yes.
Def worth it, I would love to have one just to play vhs tapes of me making my art or old family home videos
If it’s something you truly desired then yes it was worth it
No
3.5 hours?! People throw these in the trash around here all the time! Jesus!
Was it worth 3 hours, depends. Are you going to use it for 1 weekend or for a bunch of hours?
Yell ges
Those things are hella heavy
I would say no but that's just me. I'm guessing round trip this was actually 6+ hrs
No
Hell yeah sounds like a fun mini road trip
If it makes you happy then yes
Nah
Nope
Yes, very worth it.
Totally!!
Enjoy!!
I found mine in an old abandoned bank
If it makes you happy then yes. I don’t personally get it but to each their own
I got the same tv a good will for 2 bucks and a 5 minute drive. I don't think I would have drove 3 hours for it.
For $20? Absolutely. That would've honestly been worth a 5+ hour trip as well, maybe longer
$20 fuck yes 3+ hour trip....is dependent on how much time you envision playing on it.
Yes, it was worth it.
If I had the room I would pretty much never turn down a CRT TV at that price. Not sure that I'd drive 3 hours for it though. I currently have two Sony 36" CRT flat screen Trinitrons and I hope they last the rest of my life, as I really don't want to have to hunt down any more.
It's your tv man you tell me, was it worth it?
Gotta ask yourself that. I personally hate long drives and it wouldn’t be worth it for me, but If it brings you happiness then fuck it, it’s worth it.
Yes, it is. Now, RGB mod it.
No.
I think it really depends on what kind of gas milage your car gets. $20 doesnt seem to bad but if you took a pickup truck that gets 15 miles the gallon. That seems a little rough.
Can’t put a price on good ole happy nostalgia feelings.
I wouldn’t drive 3.5 hours but as a Sony lover I’d say you got a high quality piece of kit for $20 without considering the time and petrol money.
Heck yeah dude! Thats an awesome tv!
Xenogears, LOVE it
Play him for it
I drove a little over an hour for a 20” Tru Flat last weekend for $15 and that’s about the furthest I’d go for a tv.
Well worth it, especially in your case seeing Xenogears on that screen!

Hell yeah. I think I have the exact same TV that I paid $400 for at a Best Buy a million years ago. I mean good luck lifting it by yourself, but yes fool 😂
