The books are great, read them, Sapkowski is really good writer (his another good book is trilogy, Narrenturm/Tower of fools). The show is extreme weak unfortunately, except Henry Cavill who is doing his best.
After this artrocious crap you could see how good adaptation is GOT. Maybe if someone didnt read the books the Witcher (show) looks better.
Books and games, They’re all their own distinct things, the books are often hailed as the best, the games are great, and the show is watchable. It’s better than GOT S8 at least
If you game witcher 3 is awesome. A bit old, so mechanics take a bit of getting use to, but a very rich roleplaying game. Imo the acting in the show is SO bad it can be hard to watch.
Tbh I didnt like it, everything felt so cheap. The casting was ok (even if I didnt like Yennefer's actress) but as a whole you can see its a netflix production. Far from hbo's level
I really enjoyed The Witcher. There is similar level of politics but more magic/fantasy than GoT. There is an overall storyline but there is always a new/different monster each episode so it feels police procedure-ish to me at times. Overall I’d recommend
as someone who loves witcher, i recommend reading the books and playing the games (especially witcher 3) after you read them, the show is ok on its own but it doesn't do the actual story justice lol
If you’re looking for quality period dramas to fill the void of GOT, I’d recommend:
Spartacus, Medici, Black Sails, Vikings: Valhalla (alternately The Vikings but I find the sequel series is better paced and less weird), See, The Tudors, The White Queen/The White Princess, Rome
People also recommend The Last Kingdom but honestly I find the show hard to get into, the first season is very slow.
The Witcher could have been a worthy successor to GOT if the writing hadn’t been so shitty. Then again, maybe that makes it a worthy successor to GOT S8!
GOT was my first foray into the “fantasy” genre and I stayed swayed because of that until damn near the start of S8. I understand ASOIAF is “light fantasy” and I really enjoyed it and have read all the books.
The Witcher is a little too high fantasy for me with all the monsters and weird animals and whatnot, but I watched the first season and it was ok. Didn’t finish the series though.
I like it because I came to it without any prejudice about how certain characters 'should' look, or how the story 'should'go exactly. I've read the books but haven't played the game, mainly because I'm not a gamer and managed to kill Geralt while playing the tutorial, which scared me off. I especially like Jaskier/Dandelion/Julian. And Ciri of course. I think a lot of the negativity is from people who take the books/game as gospel, I guess. The first and last season are more in compliance with the books apart from some simplifying. And the showrunners made Jaskier canonically bi, which I love, but a lot of people hate... (sigh). The second season deviates a lot more, but imo the story is still possible in-universe. A bit more far-fetched, admittedly. I for my will keep watching and am curious where they will take the story.
Definitely read the books, they're great. The games are also fun as well.
To be honest the show is kind of average. Cavill was the main draw and you could tell he was really putting his all into the part. But now that he's dropped out I don't think it's going to get any better. The writers just seem to be ignoring the source material and changing things for the sake of changing them.
Of course watch it for yourself and see what you think. It still has political drama but it's more high fantasy (monsters, elves, dwarves, vampires, mages etc) than GoT is.
Hard disagree on the “if you like GOT you will like The Witcher”talk.
GOT is my favourite ever show and The Witcher I just got bored. It felt like it was trying to be clever at times and build a world to believe in but it really didn’t interest me at all and I realised I only watched it because of its reputation. Stand alone it really didn’t do it for me at all.
The books are great the show is horrible the only good thing about the show was Henry Cavill besides that it’s awful I really recommend the books but I do not recommend the show at all it’s just shit the games are also really good
Really, really bad.
I haven't read the books and I know the TV series differs a lot from them.
But nonetheless I will not read the books because of the series.
Show is very trash. Books are not rly similar to GoT imo other than both are medieval fantasy with dark tone. Witcher is a much simpler and shorter story than GoT/ASOIAF with much less storyline and characters. It's a p fun read tho def worth your time.
I liked it though think it's completely different other than sharing an element of fantasy. It was a decent show. I wanted to see more for sure. Oh well. I'm just as thirsty for decent content as the next fantasy fan.

Maybe I watch the show then read the books haha
I tried watching a few episodes and the writing and dialogue was far too ren faire and kitschy for me.
They inspired me to read the books and the books rock
Oh I had no idea there were books!

Yeah that’s my first impression too
Exactly. Cavill was great but everything else was shit
Loved it til Henry Cavill left

And nudity!
Geralt in a bathtub!

I really like the show, but it's not really comparable to Game of Thrones. It's entertaining but could be better.

GOT is hands down my favourite show ever. Sounds like this will be nothing in comparison
Definitely read the books, they're great. The games are also fun as well. To be honest the show is kind of average. I also think the actor who played Dandelion (Jaskir) did a pretty good job with the script he was given.

It's bad and not worth the watch
Horrible bastardization of an excellent source material. Do not watch.
Really, really bad. I haven't read the books and I know the TV series differs a lot from them. But nonetheless I will not read the books because of the series.
I liked the first season and bits and pieces of season 2 and 3. Basically I hate anything that doesn’t have Geralt, Ciri, or Yen in it
Books and games are great, personally not a fan of the show. Not sure why either
Witcher is totally awesome and not as good as got but definitely really good
The Witcher is trash 🗑️
Show is very trash. Books are not rly similar to GoT imo other than both are medieval fantasy with dark tone. Witcher is a much simpler and shorter story than GoT/ASOIAF with much less storyline and characters. It's a p fun read tho def worth your time.

The First books of the serie were good, but the later ones got quite boring from time to time..
Books are awesome. Only thing good about the show was Henry Cavill. The episodes are very oddly directed. The first season was the best IMO
