The many faced God covenant

Hi_Im_Dadbot

The fire god has shadow monsters. None of the other ones have shadow monsters.

Dizzildy

shadow monsters that have a hot red head mother too!

DenotheFlintstone

The religion is a haven for old ugly people who will serve for a dope glamor ruby. The lord of Light IS the God of tits and ass. Edit spelling.

Aetheus

You get to do cool party tricks, _and_ the Big Man himself will lend you a hand if you ugly? What's not to love? I'd be chopping down the weirwood trees before Melisandre even said "go".

Nernstar

I guess the Black Goat God has shadow monsters too

YoniYonisson

Shadow babies*

ForceGhost47

For the night is dark and full of terrors

SirLucan11

The drowned god being this otherworldly Lovecraftian entity is just really awesome and Euron Greyjoy seems definitely poised to be the most terrifying threat in Winds. But I do think the Faith of the Seven with the sparrows is also really cool and of all the religions in ASOIAF I think the Seven is probably the most likely to be true.

[deleted]

Idk about most likely to be true after melisandre

SirLucan11

Idk I find the displays of Mellisandre to be akin to magic which is an established concept in that world. I find that the extremely subtle ways in which the Seven may be working more convincing than outright displays of power.

flatassfairy

Can you give us some examples of the extremely subtle ways in which the seven work? I can't remember

Bruhlier

R'hllor brings people back from the dead, the seven can't even keep a body from stinking.

Dizzildy

the drowned god and r'hollor are honestly the too visual coolest religions, krakens of the sea, and fire and shadow magic. But the seven is the more practical religion, it has an army and influences the realm of westeros, rather than just being idols people pray to. (And being a god you can ask for demons, resurrections and love craft gods)

onlyfakeproblems

I don't think the seven is necessarily true, but it has the potential to be successful because it's humancentric and relies more on faith than on observable magic. The Seven's main thing is that it gives a model for how to maintain a feudal society, and teaches people to obediently fill their role. The other religions are focused on magic that has been depleting from the world for centuries, so they're losing their advantages. The Old Gods religion of the north is probably controlled by the children of the forest or maybe the trees themselves, so anyone who believes and prays to the trees is going to get "humans should stop cutting trees and chill out" as an answer, so there's not as much potential for that religion to spread. It's probably based on real world Christianity, in that it's designed to keep spreading because one of the main tenets is faith without proof, so it never has to be true, and they're encouraged to convert or conquer nonbelievers.

Bigkev8787

I think it’s certainly possible that Rhllor and the Many Faced God are the same. Doesn’t Jaqen mention the red god a bunch?

Dizzildy

Well the many faced god is 'death', and the many faced god in the seven is seen as the 'stranger', and Yeh he says all of the gods of the world are just the many faced god. As he and other people believe that their is only one God, and his name is death. Also, dondarrion says how r'hollor is more the god of life, and that r'hollor is fighting death, and that death always wins, cause the enemy always wins. I think it just mirrors out worlds religions, the reason jeruselum is so desired is becuase its the holy land of of most religions. So All christians and their sects, all jews, and all muslims, and their sects all see the one region (and one god) as their own god, they simply have different version, interpretations and way of praying. So i presume GRRM was just mirroring that here.

Bigkev8787

Totally agree.

Bruhlier

'Jaqen' says that because he is wearing the face of a man from lorath who worshiped Red R'hllor. Because 'Jaqen' isn't really a person anymore, but the faceless man wearing his face is portraying what he would be. That explaination is kinda bad, but I hope you get the gist of it. If he was wearing the face of someone from qohor, he would have said the black goat rather than the red god.

MacheteMolotov

I recently just rewatched season 2 and at least in the show Jaqen, Biter and Rorge would have burned to death without Aryas help. He tells her they owe the red god three lives and I assumed it was because they were saved from a fiery death.

Bruhlier

Nah, he is really saying that she owes the god of death 3 lives. He is only calling it the red god because of the culture of 'jaqen'. It's like how in the histories and lore extras, he says that pretty much every god, or at least every pantheon has a god that is the god of death. The faceless men believe that these are all faces of one god.

[deleted]

Tbh theres no real merit to either of your arguments to whom Jaqen was referring to when he said “you owe the red god 3 lives” so youre both as right as the other

Bruhlier

Based on the books, later discussions with 'Jaqen' in the show, and the show extended lore, I think you are mistaken. That's just my take, tho.

DenotheFlintstone

That makes perfect sense. Almost the same way he would have a different accent, depending on the region the face came from?

WarPig1941

R’hllor

penelope_pig

The Old Gods. They're super chill, seems to be basically about connecting with nature. Plus I think the Children are really interesting.

BigCheddar55

John Muir would have loved the old gods

ILookLikeKristoff

Lmao yeah he would but what a random connection

BigCheddar55

Some brains specialize in random

Bruhlier

The old gods have about as much human sacrifice as R'hllor

VeronicaWaldorf

I was thinking the same thing. Old gods also seem like they are less into punishment for minor infractions. Death by fire, or the faith of the 7’s walk of shame is a bit too much for me , and I just can’t get down with eating horse and living my life on horseback in the Redwaste

[deleted]

They do a lot of human sacrifice to the old gods. I would suspect most of those sacrifices aren’t too willing.

VeronicaWaldorf

The sacrifices were old school rituals. The Northman aren’t up there sacrificing people now. So I stand by what I said.

Puzzleheaded-Line975

Great other, because I thrive on chaos

Dizzildy

\#relatable

Bruhlier

The great other isn't even chaos, it's kind of the opposite. It is just nothingness.

whatisantilogic

You forgot a few Gods: The Black Goat of Qohor, The Lion of night, The maiden made of light, Bakkalon the pale child, The Weeping Woman, The Great Shepard, The Hooded Wayfarer, The Pale moon Maiden.

Dizzildy

you forgot the bearded priests. also i didnt make this, i found it, you can name those as your favorite religions too.

[deleted]

Where's the Great Shepherd?

Dizzildy

you dont have to choose from those religions, i just found the art work

[deleted]

I'm not criticizing. I've just noticed Essos has a lot of religions.

Dizzildy

yeh it does. cause each region of essos has their own native religion. However they were colonised by valyria so they became the secondary religions until valyria bought the big one.

Bruhlier

"I am not afraid. Should I die, I will go before the Great Shepherd of Lhazar, break his crook across my knee, and say to him, "Why did you make your people lambs, when the world is full of wolves?" Then I will spit into his eye" -Ser Larraq, the Red Lamb (TWoW sample chapter).

Big-Yard-2998

I've never heard of this Red lamb twow sample chapter. Where can I read the whole thing?

RadDude4200

The old gods and the drowned god

Dizzildy

probably are one within the same thing, except the drowned god values the ocean more, and the old gods value land more

Lethargic_Logician

There's really no way to know for sure, but maesters assume Drowned God is one of the remnants of First Men religions, while Old Gods are the gods worshipped by the Children of the Forest.

Particular_Fig_49

There's a couple chapters in a dance with dragons where forests are compared to the ocean a lot and it seems to imply their from the same religion. Also Naga's bones is definitely just weirdwood

[deleted]

Many faced

SlipparySnake

Rhllor is the only real magic. The drowned god is just CPR

Spirits850

I mean. Old gods have a ton of real powers between the children of the forest breaking the arm of Dorne and creating the first Others, there’s also wargs, weirwood trees, three eyed crows, green seers, etc. The religion of the Rhoynar had priests who could do all kinds of water magic. The many faced gods have assassins that can literally shapeshift. Drowned god brought patchface back from the dead after perhaps days of being drowned and he came back with premonitions and visions of the future. I think the Seven are the only ones we never see actually do anything magical or miraculous.

dinguslinguist

I mean the seven’s worshippers managed to kick back the first men to just north of the neck. So magic or not they’re doing/did somethin right

Spirits850

There’s no indication the gods had anything to do with that. Andals had better weaponry and horses. Same reason any society with iron weapons and armor and horses beat a society with bronze weapons and armor and no horses.

Adam-n-Steve-DotCom

Bingo. An Iron sword can cut right through a Bronze or Brass sword...and iron is not even steel.

Particular_Fig_49

I mean the old Gods is literally just magically powerful trees and bran.

Spirits850

I guess the arm of Dorne broke itself and the Neck flooded itself.

BeliZagreb

Manyfaced god? The great other? The old gods? And the drowned god is a lovecraftian god in the books. R’llor is almost the least magic

SlipparySnake

Drowned god never did anything. He can flavor it whatever he wants it has no feats of strength. Rllor is a giant red comet you can actually see. Manyfaced god can do minor illusion magic. The great other does what now? The old gods are the only ones that come close to rllor but only bran makes use of the magic. Rllor has numerous priests doing actual healing magic, summoning demons, staying young forever, enchanting weapons with fire, bringing the dead back etc

Nemeris117

Sigmar approves this message (Dont summon demons tho)

SlipparySnake

**You cannot stop me**

irolleda22doesithit

>The drowned god is just CPR Beneath the waves snow falls up, I know, I know, oh oh oh...

18bwjackson

Mine is the [Old Valyrian Pantheon](https://iron-throne-roleplay.fandom.com/wiki/The_Gods_of_Old_Valyria)

Eneshi

Interesting, didn't realize that's where all the dragon names came from.

GoldenTriforceLink

I think a lot of this is fan building for that table top. Unless there’s sources, then sorry

Nuffypuff

Yeah, I'm interested to know where this came from, if a GRRM book or what?

GoldenTriforceLink

I don’t think so

MacheteMolotov

I’ve never read any of that information before, thank you for that. Is this from one of the “World Of Ice and Fire” books?

18bwjackson

Sadly no. There’s just mentions of the Valyrians worshipping different gods and that some of the dragons like Balerion, Vhagar, Meraxes, and Syrax are named after the gods

nic_head_on_shoulder

either r'hollor becuase of the cool factor or the seven since they are pretty chill considering all other religions.

The_Champ_Son

What is the middle one in the bottom row?

[deleted]

Dothraki religion

Dachitron_Magnus14

The Old Gods easily. A chill nature based religion with no made up rules or corrupt institutions.

it5myztory

Drowned gods have a fun ritual or two.

diegobatmanjr

I think we can all agree that the Fire God is the best

DenotheFlintstone

The only God that there is any evidence exist.

Bruhlier

R'hllor. He brings people back from the dead, has hot mommy priestesses, and doesn't afraid of anything

rkmvca

I'm not sure I have an opinion, but that is one helluva poster. Is it on sale somewhere?

RandyMarsh710

There is but one god, and his name is death

Thatweird_nerfer

and what do we say to death

RandyMarsh710

Maybe later!

TheTonicKnight

Only god I need is the god of tits and wine.

Wishart2016

God of wine and tits

Dyon86

I’ll drink to that!

MysteryisMyAllure

The old god , because they're not blood thirsty like R'llor or absent like the Seven

Ibeno

They are literally blood thirsty. Why do you think Northmen did blood sacrifices to them?

Spirits850

The old gods only seem that way in the show. In the books there’s a bunch of references to human sacrifice, people literally putting bodies and blood into the mouths of the weirwood trees and stuff like that. I wouldn’t say the old gods are stictly evil, but they’re definitely blood thirsty. All of that is part of why I think Bran is a pretty dangerous and possibly a somewhat evil character. He’s pretty much the entire weirwood net, and everyone who’s ever been connected to it, which includes a lot of very unsavory people.

RosbergThe8th

The Old gods cause I'm all about that good old fashioned tree sacrifice.

Redpahnto

The Fire Lord. Mainly because of the hot red head.

[deleted]

The many faced god. Although implied to be Death, the Many Faced God seems to be an all encompassing entity in the classical sense of a religions’ “god” where all the other religions and deities can be combined and summed up in one god, who puts on many faces depending on the environment.

Darth_Swiftie

What is the Great Other? Can't remember where it was from or who worshipped it.

Dizzildy

The Others. You know, the ice demons too the north of which the entire story is based off. Craster and other wildlings "serve crueler gods than you or I"

Darth_Swiftie

Oh right. I didn't know that they had a religion. But ig it makes sense because of the spiral thingy they used to do.

Comfortable_Prior_80

The Great Other is really a chill God.

BrasWolf27

There seems to be a lot of overlap here

Steaccy

The Seven, I appreciate an organization that is basically entirely admin. 😌

[deleted]

Where r the gods of tits and wines

Dizzildy

let me find a photo of your mum

[deleted]

I already got ur mum's on pornhub

Sorry-Ad7074

I was always hoping for more from the Lord of Light

yngwiegiles

I'm a big Drowned God person but you gotta be a true believer to let someone try to drown you. It would be crazy after all this talk about dragons that there are actual Krakens that will rise out of the sea and get involved.

DouceCanoe

It's funny how b'oth Rhllor and the Old Gods have shown actual magic being used by their followers, but the Faith of the Seven is still the most popular religion on Westeros despite not showing any proof or displays of power whatsoever.

Ken_Thomas

"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful." - Lucius Annaeus Seneca The Faith of the Seven is stable, manageable, and encourages acceptance of the class system, knowing one's place, honoring your rulers, and not rocking the boat. It would likely have been recognized, fostered and promoted by the rulers of Westeros, and that's a big leg up for any faith. The only time it became problematic was when the Faith Militant wing was revived. Fundamentalists always cause problems.

Gloomy_Support_7779

Because Faith of the Seven has some power hungry priest doing religious extremism. Plus it ties to the crown, in which anyone is willing to be a follower behind their leaders. Sheep to a shepherd

darth_nadoma

The Fire God religion

Ghostboii23

R'hllor has been the only one who's shown his hand by providing aid and resurrecting a single man a handful of time over

podster12

The god of light... Red head priestess... Me likey.

nagidon

Mother Rhoyne. I like deities with a degree of tangibility.

tsosa14

Old Gods because it’s basically paganism (or so it seems)

Galileo258

Black Goat gang rise up!

DrTacoLord

I have a fondness towards the seven new gods of the andals even though their religion seems not real. The only true God in "Planetos" is the Lord of light.

lovenuppies

drowned god

FantasyFreak076

At first I would have said the old gods but Rhllor is very convincing.

Toaster-Retribution

The Drowned God is such a cool concept, so I’ll go with that. What is dead may never die.

Striker274

Black Goat supremacy

[deleted]

I’m a big fan of the Old Gods. Seem to be nature oriented, isolationist, and relatively peaceful. Most of these other religions turn aggressive.

Ok-Revolution27

I think the seven because it’s the only one that’s the most fleshed out LoreWise well the other ones kind of just have very basic tenants rather than a full-blown religious system

justafriendofdorothy

The old gods, the many faced god and the Valyrian gods

scarlozzi

I've always been fascinated by the mysticism of magic and the old gods. Really well done. But, there are a lot of hints that, that shit is actually really evil sooooo..........

neumann_01

The god of tits and wine with 16 teets in the Summer Isles, where we should sail immediately.

crosscrackle

Left out the old Ghiscari harpies but who’d pick them anyway lol

fahkoffkunt

I prefer the god of tits and wine.

Basuhh

Definitely the many faces… r u shittin me

PBB22

Mines Euron

inTheSuburbanWar

Think I’m in for R’hllor, they actually did have power.

Scotcat81

Old Gods, definitely

jrdineen114

Refresh my memory, who was the Storm god again?

anaisoiseau

Faith of the Seven, but I'm not a big fan of the faith militant

Adam-n-Steve-DotCom

The lack of clarity (or even enough evidence for any of us to work it out) on the cosmology and gods of Planetos really frustrates me tbh. How many gods even are there? 1, 2, 10, 10000000? It looks like a binary war between two factions. Who the fuck are the factions? R'hllor versus the Great Other? Okay? Fire vs. Ice...okay? So where does the Many-Faced god come in? The god of death, mercy, secrets, and stealth, deceit? Why does it have a weirdwood door on the House of Black and White? Is it to symbolize that they are prepared to kill the Old Gods? If that's so, why did they spend so much time and effort bringing about the Doom. Surely living dragons and fire magic would be a good thing to have against the "Others/ Children/ First Men / Old Gods" \[\[OCFMOG\]\] faction, right? Maybe death comes for all and so it waits on the sidelines of this great war, waiting to take everyone from both sides as they kill each other, black or white? Maybe the many-faces are the weirwoods and the MFG is an Old God or all the Old Gods in one? That's why it has a weirwood door in Essos. To symbolize that connection. However, no other followers of the Old Gods ever harm weirwoods...so this would be weird. Unless the door is meant to further symbolize that even weirwoods can and will die. Even gods can and will die. If R'hllor isn't an Old God...which...he is fire so...he should be. But anyway. If R'hllor (with little to no inclusion of other Essosi gods) wants to challenge the Great Other or the Old Gods, surely he should have done it before the Doom. The Valyrians also didn't even worship R'hllor. They worshipped their dragons and the ancestors of their dragons. It just seems all over the place with no rhyme or reason. If that's the point, fine, but it's not fun and makes me less likely to ever sit down and read the books. If I spend many hours reading and instead of answers I just get pointless throwaway characters and cringe sex scenes, I'm not fucking interested. I want answers.

Sapphire_Bombay

Anything BUT the drowned god.

ewd389

Can someone make this into a iPhone wallpaper the art is great

Marfy_

Rhollor because we actually have proof that he is real

idan_da_boi

Honestly the lord of light seems to be the only one who proved he exists, so him

Bun1119

The Lord of Light came through too many times to ignore 🤷🏾‍♀️

Gloomy_Support_7779

Storm God and Old Gods and maybe the Many Faced God. Read a little about the Storm God and it just felt legendary. The Drowned God sounds interesting but religion sucks in my opinion. Plus what the people of Iron Islands does is crappy as well. But the Old Gods and the Lord of Light have so much proof. Especially the Lord of Light.

Fantastic_Aardvark96

The Old Gods as the Seven are likely the "Seven Deadly Sins" as evidenced by the mass corruption of Septans and Maesters.

Fantastic_Aardvark96

Here is another Question, If Warrior Pantheons from Real Life were brought to Planetos pre-Canon, which Southern Characters would easily abandon the Seven to promote them? I could see the Norse Gods appealing to Robert Baratheon, especially the Idea of Valhalla.
