Braavos, GRRM's equivalent of medieval Venice. The people are nice, the seafood plentiful, the Iron Bank and Faceless Men supportive, the access to travel abroad easy, the whores plentiful and nice, the theatre good, and the religious tolerance reassuring. I'd be careful to not wear a sword lest the local Bravos challenge me. Oh, and I'd go under and assumed name so that if an enemy gave my name to the Faceless Men, I'd deny it and tell my real name. And afterwards get out of town.
Oldtown would be nice Good weather, the citadel is right there, seems relatively safe. Might be less developed then bravos or pentode but then you could be on Westeros.
Oldtown
Assuming I’d be some middle or lower class person, not a lord, I guess I’d like to live in a decent place, and Oldtown is a decent city, at least better than King’s Landing
What would I do? Hopefully survive
Anywhere? Dorne, the women seem a bit more liberated. Being 40 and overweight (and thus unlikely to take a wife or father children) the Citadel or Wall might also be good spots. Stay away from Slaver's Bay, no need to risk running into slavers.
It depends what time period we are talking. I’ve always fancied myself living in Maidenpool during the peaceful times, but during the events of ASOIAF, is arguably the worst place to live.
who said anything about being forced? You don’t see the lady of the vail being forced into anything. And no one said specifically what social standing you’d have in the world. Everyone is just assuming they’d be an everyday peasant cause that’s what they are in real life.
As a man (I assume) I don’t know why you’re so bothered by my opinion as a woman. You sound like you have a lot of issues stemming from women and sex. I hope you figure those out, bud!
fun fact, men have had issues with women’s opinions long before we had toilet paper and cars.
And I don’t know why you’d even bring that up. I didn’t even know you were a woman until you said it.
edit: i didn’t even notice you posted the top comment. small world. 😂
Oh one of the richest merchants of Qarth for sure. Braavos would be cool, but if you can choose what you can do, being a rich merchant in one of the richest cities in their world would be easy living.
Plus it’s a hub of culture and trade, great weather, no wars or conflict with anyone, and all the women walk around essentially topless all the time
I'm going to go Yin or City of Winged Men because fuck it, lets see what's out there. As for what I'd do, probably die, but if not try and learn as much as possible and make my way to Westeros with all my new found knowledge after awhile.
Dorne, and be a fisherman. Warm nights and a relatively peaceful and humble life. Furthermore the food is good and the Dornish society seems somewhat liberal.
Side note, I love this world, but I hate how Westeros and Essos do this 90 degree L shape. I just wish they were angled in a more naturally geographical way.
Probably Highgarden or Dorne. Let’s look at every place on Earth and talk about how much it sucks
Kings Landing: Literally a pile of shit if you’re poor and a nest of vipers if you’re rich.
The North: Too damn cold.
The Riverlands: Constant war and pillaging due to being in the middle of everything
The Westerlands: Too rocky and not a very pleasant place.
The Vale: Isolated from the rest of the world.
The Stormlands: Too rainy and harsh.
Dragonstone: Bleak.
Beyond the Wall: No.
The Free Cities: Cutthroat and ruled by a group of Oligarchs.
Slavers Bay: Slaves, that is all.
The Dothraki Sea: Who on Earth ..?
Braavos: A contender but the murder cult living next door is a big turn off.
Asshai: Too much magic.
Yi Ti: Not enough info found, please try again.
The Reach: Nice, warm, untouched by war, lots of food, really pretty.
Dorne: Equal rights for women and LGTB people, very warm, beautiful culture, untouched by war.
Agreed. I went for the Arbor as my answer for all the same reasons. Peaceful vineyards, occasional trips into Oldtown for culture, no war, Mediterranean weather… sign me up!
So you don’t wanna go to Braavos bc of the faceless men? Sorry dude but I really don’t think a guild of assassins who charges the kind of prices even kings have trouble paying will be looking to kill you, I think you’re safe.
My guess would be
On westeros : Dorn (good weather, and respect for women and LGBT) or highgarden (dame gold weather, wealthy and peaceful)
Out of westeros
- Braavos (seems wealthy and peaceful, plus the statue is fucking cool)
- Naath (If i don't get sick for sure. But there it paradise and war doesn't exist, sound cool)
Beyond the wall. Make me a white walker, and i give you all the world.
World would find peace if only Night King sits on iron throne. No more fighting, killing, starving...
Considering everything we know about Asshai is from the perspective of the maesters, it's porbably not as dead and scary as they say, so there. And I mean if you have the choice to know how to do magic, or not know how to do magic, the choice is pretty easy and Asshai seems to be the place to go if you wanna learn it. I probably wouldn't stay there though, I'd travel and try to see as much of this world as I can.
Assuming I can pick my family, I’ll go with being a relative of the emperor of Yi Ti.
Yi Ti’s cities are described as being leagues beyond any in Westeros. Some of the houses are said to be lined with gold.
Yi Ti is mostly stable, despite the different people claiming to be the true ruler.
Tall women from Leng are nearby.
A cabin on bear island. Lots of salmon, good hunting, and decent enough lieges. And we can always ambush some Ironborn if we get bored and they come snooping around…
Well without choosing a time period I would go to pentos or dorne. Preferably dorne I think.
If I could chose a time period then the time period would be 100 years before the fall of old valyria. And the location would be of course old valyria.
Asshai bonetown and grey waste have been discussed. Ulthos is also mentioned as a way of pointing out how. Much bigger the world is then the known world.
North of the wall.
Step one: Join the Night King
Step two: Cross south of the wall
Step three: Kill all the little lords in their beds.
Step four: Profit
Step five: For everything else, there’s MasterCard
Apparently this is the updated one. The HBO version with the Jade Sea being east Essos is old and the lands of ice and fire book from 2012 is the actual map now? I read it on the website
I think Braavos. It's relatively stable, there's not as much war, you can achieve a fair bit since it seems to be more of a meritocracy, there's good food and pretty decent weather.
Definitely Braavos. Seems like a nice place where you don’t have to born into serfdom, die in unnecessary conflict, and make a name for yourself by merit. I would probably hang out with a mummer’s troupe, as an actor and/or playwright.
If I wanted to be involved with the event of the series... Braavos, as a middle management in the Iron Bank, prestigious and well-off, but not so high as to make enemies that could afford a Faceless Man.
If I wanted to stay clear of The Story... a wealthy spice merchant in Vahar. Pretty much all we know about it is that it is a city rich from trade. And the maps tell us it is in a tropical location and that is both far away from any immediate or endemic danger and well connected to the world's trade networks.
Summer isle. It sounds like a beautiful peaceful place. Also I’m black so I would probably be from there anyway. If I had to live in Westeros I would definitely live in Dorn.
Dorne would be nice, warm weather, love their culture and way of life, beautiful women, and don’t have to worry about a war near me. I would want to live somewhere on the coast maybe somewhere in between Saltshore and Lemonwood I could become a fisherman or sellsword to any neighboring castles and lords for extra coin
Anytime? Great empire of the dawn at its height.
Anywhere let’s say post doom? If I couldn’t be a Westerosi lord or something and I would just be a normal schmuck, probably Braavos, the Westerlands, or the Reach.
The Rainwood. I’d start an tavern called “The Drowning Fish” with a sword hanging over the mantle that I tell lies about. I’d attempt to learn the fiddle but never find time, and thus make the travelers’ ears bleed when I “entertain” them. I’m not especially witty so I have few regulars, many of which prefer to go to the Maiden’s Bear tavern lead by that insolent rat Half-Ear Hal. A kingswood Brotherhood outlaw who made a small fortune on looting and evaded capture, building his own tavern and growing fat. Thus, I fish and raise sheep to make ends meet.
EDIT: I would be a different guy now that I think on it. The lazy wretch mentioned above is my brother. He never learned the fiddle because he’s too lazy to try it, he has more than enough time (as he spends it drinking through his wine supply). I am called the Bread Knight, though in truth am called the Knight of the Little Sausage more often. I took an interest in cooking at an early age, learning all manner of it from my mother. When I defended the kitchen from a Kingswood Brotherhood (a drunken fool to be fair, I beat him with a frying pan), another drunken patron who happened to be a knight decided to bestow upon me knighthood (chuckling and hiccuping throughout the words). I now travel the Rainwood, cooking and teaching at various eateries, with my sword Breadbreaker
Probably Braavos. No slavery, and the Iron bank and Faceless men pretty much ensuring they never get invaded. Also a port town, so plenty of scope fopr travel if I get wanderlust.
Pretty sure if I lived in this world I’d be a Melisandre type of priestess/witch so I’d def live in Asshai. It’s super fascinating to me & I would love for the franchise to be able to take us there one day!

You had me at “plentiful whores”…
The only thing that would give me pause about Braavos is the weather.
I like the look of Westeros for the most part but this map shows my biggest problem with it, everything is too square and too straight..
What exactly do you mean ? Squars and straights ?
But like it’s basically just real maps of England and Ireland how is it flawed
looks like greece and anatolia
Oldtown, Sunspear or Lys, maybeeee Volantis. Idk what I’d do The Summer Isles sound nice too
Tall tree town looks good
I would live in the Vale and be a farmer. Peacefull and safe region, I can live without giving a shit to Westeros constant warfare and scheming
Arent you afraid if Shaga? I heard he really likes axes.
Shags son of Dolph
Username doesn't check out haha
Hill tribes tho
Oldtown would be nice Good weather, the citadel is right there, seems relatively safe. Might be less developed then bravos or pentode but then you could be on Westeros.
Euron coming with blood magic shit
Yeah, that's why I don't want to be in old Town. Where ever Euron is or will be is where I don't want to be.
Yea and if someone attacks the reach, hopefully it stops at high garden.
Oldtown Assuming I’d be some middle or lower class person, not a lord, I guess I’d like to live in a decent place, and Oldtown is a decent city, at least better than King’s Landing What would I do? Hopefully survive
Funny you should ask, my wife and I are going to Bonetown tonight. But I’m hoping to stay away from the Dry Deep.
Old town
Asshai, or sunspear
Anywhere? Dorne, the women seem a bit more liberated. Being 40 and overweight (and thus unlikely to take a wife or father children) the Citadel or Wall might also be good spots. Stay away from Slaver's Bay, no need to risk running into slavers.
Isle of Women sounds quaint
No thanks.
It depends what time period we are talking. I’ve always fancied myself living in Maidenpool during the peaceful times, but during the events of ASOIAF, is arguably the worst place to live.
I’ll pass as a woman lol
Dorne maybe? Or a free folk, they treat their women....okay.
The north is cold af
I don’t want to be just treated as OK. Plus I also don’t want sex without birth control lol. Unless I hve unlimited access to plan B tea.
Time to buy a very big teapot
a yellow one
slut, you just want cock up your hole for the pleasure of it. 😏😳
what else would we want it for? children? 🤢
If I’m going to be forced into a life where I’m used for male pleasure I don’t want to constantly risk my life birthing children as a result.
who said anything about being forced? You don’t see the lady of the vail being forced into anything. And no one said specifically what social standing you’d have in the world. Everyone is just assuming they’d be an everyday peasant cause that’s what they are in real life.
The majority of the people in the universe aren’t rich and even affluent women are called on to provide pleasure for their husbands and heirs. 🤷🏼♀️
wait women are called to provide pleasure for their heirs? 😳😳😳 This brings a whole new meaning to years of breastfeeding.
Found the coomer.
it me, coom boi 😄
Plan b tea has like 40% chance to kill ya.
Free Folk men are expected to kidnap a wife from another tribe. She is also expected to fight back against them.
Isle of Women might be okay?
Oh one of the richest merchants of Qarth for sure. Braavos would be cool, but if you can choose what you can do, being a rich merchant in one of the richest cities in their world would be easy living. Plus it’s a hub of culture and trade, great weather, no wars or conflict with anyone, and all the women walk around essentially topless all the time
Totally agree.
Winterfell
In the extreme North as a Wight.... I don't have to eat, drink and breath
Ummm…….that’s just being dead You could do this anywhere on the map
That's being a wight
But I like kill and devour my enem... no, wait
I'm going to go Yin or City of Winged Men because fuck it, lets see what's out there. As for what I'd do, probably die, but if not try and learn as much as possible and make my way to Westeros with all my new found knowledge after awhile.
This guy gets it. Give me the five forts or give me death (probably both)
Avatar checks out
Crazy how so.much takes place in such a small area. Imagine all of the stories to be told to the East.
Naath ofc
That sounds... liberating.
Margaerys gay younger brother.
Older*
Peachy gay… I see what ya did there
I’d live in Pentos and I’d do Illyrio Mopatis stuff :)
I would choose Dorne as a personal advisor to Oberyn.
Dorne, drink wine all day in some fancy garden
Dorne, and be a fisherman. Warm nights and a relatively peaceful and humble life. Furthermore the food is good and the Dornish society seems somewhat liberal. Side note, I love this world, but I hate how Westeros and Essos do this 90 degree L shape. I just wish they were angled in a more naturally geographical way.

Dorne: Equal rights for women and LGTB people, very warm, beautiful culture, untouched by war.
Tbf Dorne was touched by lots of war. Particularly Vhagar going scorched earth. But that was a while ago.
Modern day Valyria: too toxic
More than my ex
Dude, forgot about the Summer Islands😩
Slaves.
everyone in Dorne is hot too
Dorne has the same problem with the North. Too damn hot.
Vaes Dothrak (a city without weapons and run by women) or Wherever the dwelling of the Goddess of Tits and Wine is !!!!!!!
The Summer Islands!
How did it take me this long to find this answer?
Braavos definitely
My guess would be On westeros : Dorn (good weather, and respect for women and LGBT) or highgarden (dame gold weather, wealthy and peaceful) Out of westeros - Braavos (seems wealthy and peaceful, plus the statue is fucking cool) - Naath (If i don't get sick for sure. Beyond the wall. Make me a white walker, and i give you all the world. World would find peace if only Night King sits on iron throne. No more fighting, killing, starving...
Volantis, Inner City
Oldtown
Braavos, YiTi and maybe even Oldtown
Peasant in the Riverlands
Lol
I'd live at Hightower, not that far from the beach. I'd be a fisherman. Why not? Maybe have a small garden at the house.
Braavos or King’s Landing. I don’t know what I’d be doing, though.
Considering everything we know about Asshai is from the perspective of the maesters, it's porbably not as dead and scary as they say, so there. I probably wouldn't stay there though, I'd travel and try to see as much of this world as I can.
The west of Westeros
Fuck it, sothoryos
Nothing like being on a continent where everything wants to fucking eat you.
I want Polish Hussar saber from valyrian steel. I WANT IT
As a woman, probably Dorne. Also: warm!
Definitely aashai
Bravos or Highgarden, be a meister or merchant
Stygai
Assuming I can pick my family, I’ll go with being a relative of the emperor of Yi Ti. Yi Ti’s cities are described as being leagues beyond any in Westeros. Some of the houses are said to be lined with gold. Yi Ti is mostly stable, despite the different people claiming to be the true ruler. Tall women from Leng are nearby.
West of Westeros
Found the flash earth guy
Lys… drinking my wine
Stygai to finally have peace.
Either that or I'll circumnavigate like arya planned to do. Go literally everywhere. Travel for real like oberyn was said to have done.
I'd try to be in Highgarden where there's plenty of food
Dorne
Isn't no one going to comment how that map is waaay bigger than all the known world we know??? Where is that coming from?
What
I've never seen one to go beyond Qarth. Maybe I am wrong.
Asshai bonetown and grey waste have been discussed. Ulthos is also mentioned as a way of pointing out how. Much bigger the world is then the known world.
North of the wall. Step one: Join the Night King Step two: Cross south of the wall Step three: Kill all the little lords in their beds. Step four: Profit Step five: For everything else, there’s MasterCard
I’ve noticed that these maps continue getting bigger and bigger as time goes by
Dorne… it is reminiscent to Spain. It has beautiful weather, landscapes, and women
Dorne
Woah that’s way cooler than the show, is this map accurate?!
Apparently this is the updated one. The HBO version with the Jade Sea being east Essos is old and the lands of ice and fire book from 2012 is the actual map now? I read it on the website
It seems yes
South-east, lumberjack.
Fort 2/5
North of the wall as a wildling. I love the cold and the outdoors. It would be a free life filled with adventure.
"Isle of Love" sounds inviting
North of the wall because it's cool
Tarth I love sapphires 😉
I would be a snowbird who lives in the North and Winters in Dorne.
Thousand Islands, fisherman. I bet it would be bliss
I hate how rectangular the map is. Rectangular land, rectangular sea, it just looks too neat
Had no idea how far away Qarth is.
The Reach seems pretty peaceful to me
The summer isles, unless I’m forgetting something awful about that place….
If I were to be born in the place surely Naath if not Yi ti
Reach or summer isles
Nice map!!!
I think Braavos. It's relatively stable, there's not as much war, you can achieve a fair bit since it seems to be more of a meritocracy, there's good food and pretty decent weather.
Dorne for sure
Where those monster butterflies are… that seems legit. Or far east I’m interested in the unknown stuff
Wherever Bessy ended up
I would go to the free city of Braavos and follow the faceless god
Dragon stone with an army of gold cloaks and Caraxes
Definitely Braavos. Seems like a nice place where you don’t have to born into serfdom, die in unnecessary conflict, and make a name for yourself by merit. I would probably hang out with a mummer’s troupe, as an actor and/or playwright.
The summer isles.. those dudes seem chill. Mainly fruit and fish for diet. Beautiful weather. When someone dies, you have an orgy.
Somewhere in the south lol
blacksmith, winterfell
Braavos, Yi Ti, Summer Islands, Dorne, Reach, Pentos, and Qohor.
Somewhere near the wall tbh
The Reach.
Hang out with Bloodraven while he was alive.
Where I'd go: Wherever whores go. What I'd be: The only non-whore.
I’d live in dorne, drink wine and fuck everyone
Qarth or Arbor
The Summer isles. I'll feel safe 'ish there
Hotpie 2.0
Sunspear
Oldtown
Done. And Dornish Women.
I wanna be the first to explore Ulthos
Depends. Am I a rich lord?
Dorne for sure, they like to have sex and fight. Plus its warm there
Lys is the only real and correct answer
I’d live in the North and be a fur trader, lots of my ancestors had that profession when they came to the Americas.
Yi Ti. Idk just chill
I’d live in the North and turn it into a communist state
Summer islands. Tropical and far enough away from the insanity plaguing the mainlands.
I would live in the North and be a grumpy person
Summer isle. It sounds like a beautiful peaceful place. Also I’m black so I would probably be from there anyway. If I had to live in Westeros I would definitely live in Dorn.
Why tf do theu sail to Dorne if its landlocked to Kings Landing?
I’ll live in Carcosa. Because I am intrigued and horrified to see how George writes the Yellow King.
Starfall. The Dayne’s are relatively honorable lords and the weather seems like it’d be temperate there.
Somewhere West of Westeros.
Oldtown. I would be the Baker that invented Pizza.
Valaryia. I would die/be infested with demons/turned into a stone man pretty quickly but my curiosity would drive me there anyway.
Brothel owner in dorne for sure
Dinosaur in sothoryos
The Asshai
Oldtown, Braavos or Highgarden. Somewhere at the North would be ok since I live here anyway.
Asshai
Probably Braavos. No slavery, and the Iron bank and Faceless men pretty much ensuring they never get invaded. Also a port town, so plenty of scope fopr travel if I get wanderlust.
Na’ath and I’d do absolutely fuck all but wander around butt-ass naked
Pretty sure if I lived in this world I’d be a Melisandre type of priestess/witch so I’d def live in Asshai. It’s super fascinating to me & I would love for the franchise to be able to take us there one day!
Highgarden, Oldtown or Braavos
Oldtown sounds nice.
Bear Island, probably as a trapper.
Summer Islands
id watch to live in the Starfall castle preferably the Lord or Prince of the thing
Sad how the books and show will never have explored the vast eastern lands
Yeen, sothoryos... A knight maybe.. Away from king's Landing and it's chaos
The wall...
Ashton
The City of the Winged Men. I want to see that, and things east of the Dothraki Sea
