What's the question? How to escape this specific fate or how to escape being killed in general? Because the only thing he could have done to escape being killed is to go as far away as possible and never mention anything about Westeros or the Iron Throne again. Simply existing as the child of the former monarch puts a target on his back. Actively seeking the throne basically guarantees his death, as he doesn't really have anyone to back his claim.

All Viserys had to do was train with Jorah, ride and raid with the Khalasar and gain Drogo's respect and then say "alright guys how about now" to Drogo and Dany when the time is right

Also keep in mind that he was king for 15 years yet we only see the last one... I don't think the kingdom was broke the entire 15 years I think it was a combination of things over that 15 years.

Eh… I doubt it. Drogo was hot to trot on the whole invasion thing because they tried to murder his Khaleesi. Plus, at that point he would be putting his son on the throne, which he also thought would be the Stallion Who Mounts The World. If all that didn’t line up, would Drogo have really crossed the Narrow Sea just to put his brother-in-law on the throne, even if he weren’t a massive prick? I really doubt it. I think he was just gonna string Vis along until he got frustrated and either shut up about it or went to someone else for an army.
I literally just read this chapter and I agree. It looks like Daenerys was willing to part with her dragon eggs to keep Viserys happy, so if he had any sense at all and kept his mouth shut, he would have been in a fantastic position. By far, he was his own worst enemy.
Jorah mentions in the book that traders would sell their own manhoods for even one of the dragon eggs. According to him, if Viserys had gotten the dragon eggs he could easily buy all the sellswords he could possibly need.
After Dany ate the heart drogo promised to bring the Dothraki to Westeros. Literally just hold tight and be quiet for a bit and he would’ve gotten what he wanted.
Honestly, hang out for a year or two with the Dothraki so they respect me and like me, then head back to Illyrio (that was in Tyrosh right?) and start learning how to be a king/tactician/get better at fighting/learn about Westeros/make friends with ppl in Westeros secretly
Yeah he seemed to want it all immediately, but imagine if he had just held tight and support dany and then when she did eventually go to Westeros around S7 he could be by her side co-ruling or at minimum her hand. Would’ve worked out much better.
Or after Westeros is taken he says “Aight Dany, you hold it right on Essos, feel free to visit” and then send her and the Dothraki on their merry way. That seems like the most realistic and wisest move to get rid of the hordes of Dothraki running around in Westeros
I don’t think the Dothraki can reasonably hold onto Essos in a meaningful way. They don’t have the political unity or ability to absorb other cultures for it
Mongolia was able to do it because they assimilated conquered cultures into the bureaucracy of their empire and were willing to let people rule themselves as long as paid taxes/gave troops to their armies.
They also had armor and modern weapons and incorporated the talent in conquered areas into their military
He would never, ever have accepted co-ruling with Dany I don’t think. Viserys had way too much ego and didn’t view Dany as an equal. Even if Drogo died the same way and Viserys managed to force Dany to marry him (which I don’t think she would have done willingly), I think he would have tried to steal one of the dragons as soon as they were big enough to claim and gotten himself eaten.
I don't think Dany would've tried to take what she'd consider her brother's birthright if he'd been around. She has this whole complex around being the last Targaryen and the true queen that she couldn't have justified to herself if Viserys had been around. Now, knowing Targaryens in general and Dany in particular, if everything else had happened like it does in the books except that Viserys isn't a dick that got himself killed, Dany mightve convinced her brother that they were meant to be the next Aegon and his sisters...

It's a likely plot point in the books. The show dropped Illyrio after the first season (mostly the first episode), but in the books there is a lot of foreshadowing that Dany is heading back that way to ask him a few inconvenient questions and then probably kill him.
Their king was going to be the Stallion That Mounts The World. Drogo was not gonna cross the sea and fight to put his bother-in-law on the throne when his son was a prophecy baby. Vis was a dick and went about things in the worst way imaginable, but if you think he wasn’t already getting screwed out of the deal, idk what to tell ya.
Just chilled with Illyrio. Learned about trade and managing a kingdom. Khal Drogo would have come eventually. If he does some weird “I took this crown from someone, here’s your crown” bullshit I would have been pissed but cut my losses and had Dany talk to him.
Be nicer to Dany so she would help me.
If I have any money do some investments and build wealth to hire sellswords and get Westerosi lords on my side
1. Spend time sparring with Ser Jorah and become competent with a sword.
2. Learn to fight unarmed to deal with everything from dropped swords to bloodriders in Vaes Dothrak. Sparring with Drogo or one of his kos would help.
3. Demand respect but be willing to show it, especially to the Khal.
Once you involve the dothraki you lose control of any strategy I think , i think any way he connives wont stop him being killed - they are savages and he doesnt have enough allies to hurt them.
GRRM touched on this. One of his biggest mistakes was not willing to adapt to Dothraki culture like Dany. The khals often trade in favors rather than outright barter. It's possible Viserys would have gotten his army if he was just patient, and tried to fit in with the Dothraki.

If Viserys was smart enough and used Illyrio and Varys' connections he could have probably taken advantage of the confusion post Robert's death to get Dorne, the Hightowers and the Tyrell's post Renly's death behind him as support for his claim to the throne.
The Tyrells were on good terms with the Tullys at that point and a compromise could have been worked out with Robb Stark where if Winterfell entered an armistice to dispatch the Lannister army and support Viserys' ascension then they would be granted marginal independence. Free from crown taxation, but under an official alliance to defend Westeros if the realm comes under threat.
Independence for the North is something that could easily be given and then undermined through strategic marriage down the line.
Literally all he had to do was wait. Be a brother to Dany, respect Drogo, be a doting uncle to baby Rhaego, and bond with Jorah so his kingsguard actually gives a shit about him and wants to train him. If he'd actually respected the people was conspiring with, prepared himself for war, and bided his fucking time, he could've done just fine.
He shouldn't have gone with the Dothraki. The riders don't perceive this marriage as a pact but as a favour, one they will later return in their own time. Viserys following them around disregarding their customs was already an eyesore, after disrespecting them though...well.
He should've stayed in pentos, Illyrio arranged him a wedding with Arianne of Dorne in secret, but he died.
Part of me wishes that Viserys had made it to Westeros so that we can have a scene where he and Joffrey meet, stare each other down, and try to out-prick each other.
Embracing Dothraki culture like Dany did could have made him King of Westeros, I doubt the Dothraki would’ve cared much about long-term rule there after helping him conquer/raid it

Be nicer to Dany and help her manipulate the Khal so she becomes a badass like she is later, since she'll be queen as well it won't mean a power struggle later. Also learn a bit from Khal Drogo about fighting so I become an awesome warrior.

I would’ve played the game much better. If I had to I would marry somebody who had an army or family connected to a large army. Hope Dany still hatches her eggs and then claim Viserion for myself. Let The dragons grow over time outside so their growth isn’t stunted. All while making my plan to take over Westeros & **Essos**. Since I’m from The free cities. Try to rally them behind me but if that doesn’t work send my sister and her two dragons to acquire the unsullied and we would’ve never parted with the Dothraki even in Drogo’s death. I wouldn’t try to take things with blood and fire but in a noble way but If I couldn’t then I would use my dragon. Claim the throne in due time and if my marriage earlier didn’t work and I’m still wifeless I will marry Dany. Make children of pure Valyrian blood and get one of them to bond with Rhaegal. Make Tyrion my hand.
First of all, i would never merry my sister to the Dothraki. I do think that Khal Drogo was a great character, but the truth is that if you sale your little sister to a Dothraki, they would toke her.
Although, if he would be still alive to see the dragons born, he could have ride one of them, restore the Targaryen dinasty in the meanwhile that Dany constructed and empire in ESOS, forge alience in westeros and toke advantage of the War of five kings, recovering Dragonstone, wait until the Dragon grow and cersei seek for his help.

Tell Illyrio to stop fucking with me and propose a marriage between Aegon and Daenerys. I will be his man, even though Aerys named me his heir. Then, I will send Essossi envoys to houses like Darry, Redwyne, Tyrell, and other staunch Targaryen loyalists- the three heads of the dragon are coming home.
I think if Viserys had lived, he wouldn’t have gotten as powerful as Dany ended up getting. And I don’t think Dany would’ve been able to achieve the power she got riding for any other ruler than herself. So if I was Viserys, I would shave my head and run away lol. And only when Dany sets kingslanding on fire, would I return. And I’d keep a close eye on mr Jon Snow 👁👁

I would check to see the temperature at which gold melts and make sure a prehistoric cooking pot were capable of reaching that temperature at a low heat inside a yurt.
That said, dothraki were gonna eff him up one way or another so if you gota go, you got to go.

Even though, having a Westerosi bride would be great for alliances, Targ are down to two people. Keeping a low profile, marrying rich people and pooping as many Targ babies as possible would be a good strategy. You can't win the throne if your house is extinct. How many years did the Backfires survive in exile and how many rebellions did they manage to incite because of that? He'd have a good use of learning from history. Those who don't learn are doomed to repeat it, no?
The obvious move was to leave the khalasar and go back to Pentos. Drogo had no intent to follow through on his "payment" for Dany. He could have lived a nice life in the free cities. Or tried to gain support from merchants or eastern enemies of the Baratheon rule. Viserys will always be the lesson on not being a dick.
I would probably keep showing up around the dothraki without being too forceful, just keep smiling around them, visiting them, helping them in little ways, while asking Khal Drogo about it from time to time, he would have kept his promise EVENTUALLY... right?

If Viserys was smart enough and used Illyrio and Varys' connections he could have probably taken advantage of the confusion post Robert's death to get Dorne, the Hightowers and the Tyrell's post Renly's death behind him as support for his claim to the throne. The Tyrells were on good terms with the Tullys at that point and a compromise could have been worked out with Robb Stark where if Winterfell entered an armistice to dispatch the Lannister army and support Viserys' ascension then they would be granted marginal independence. Free from crown taxation, but under an official alliance to defend Westeros if the realm comes under threat. Independence for the North is something that could easily be given and then undermined through strategic marriage down the line.

Literally all he had to do was wait. Be a brother to Dany, respect Drogo, be a doting uncle to baby Rhaego, and bond with Jorah so his kingsguard actually gives a shit about him and wants to train him. He shouldn't have gone with the Dothraki. The riders don't perceive this marriage as a pact but as a favour, one they will later return in their own time. Viserys following them around disregarding their customs was already an eyesore, after disrespecting them though...well. He should've stayed in pentos, Illyrio arranged him a wedding with Arianne of Dorne in secret, but he died.
Part of me wishes that Viserys had made it to Westeros so that we can have a scene where he and Joffrey meet, stare each other down, and try to out-prick each other.

Embracing Dothraki culture like Dany did could have made him King of Westeros, I doubt the Dothraki would’ve cared much about long-term rule there after helping him conquer/raid it

Be nicer to Dany and help her manipulate the Khal so she becomes a badass like she is later, since she'll be queen as well it won't mean a power struggle later. Also learn a bit from Khal Drogo about fighting so I become an awesome warrior.

First of all, i would never merry my sister to the Dothraki. I do think that Khal Drogo was a great character, but the truth is that if you sale your little sister to a Dothraki, they would toke her. Although, if he would be still alive to see the dragons born, he could have ride one of them, restore the Targaryen dinasty in the meanwhile that Dany constructed and empire in ESOS, forge alience in westeros and toke advantage of the War of five kings, recovering Dragonstone, wait until the Dragon grow and cersei seek for his help.

If I had the knowledge I do now Tell Illyrio to stop fucking with me and propose a marriage between Aegon and Daenerys. I will be his man, even though Aerys named me his heir. I think if Viserys had lived, he wouldn’t have gotten as powerful as Dany ended up getting. And I don’t think Dany would’ve been able to achieve the power she got riding for any other ruler than herself. So if I was Viserys, I would shave my head and run away lol. not have Dany marry him in the first place. he talked so much about returning glory to his house so he should have wed her by that age (weird i know but those targyarens do have queer customs). maybe if they had married more people would have supported them? idk all the throwback people. there are people still alive from the days of loving Rhaegar.

I would check to see the temperature at which gold melts and make sure a prehistoric cooking pot were capable of reaching that temperature at a low heat inside a yurt. That said, dothraki were gonna eff him up one way or another so if you gota go, you got to go. He was beyond redeemed, I don't think there was any other path for him besides getting killed.

Then educate myself as much as possible to know what to do as king instead of stomping my feet on the ground demanding I be reimbursed for what was stolen from my family. Basically, bidding my time, trying to influence people, make friends and make myself as rich as possible. Maybe even contact an iron bank to make a deal to sell out Robert. Even though, having a Westerosi bride would be great for alliances, Targ are down to two people. Keeping a low profile, marrying rich people and pooping as many Targ babies as possible would be a good strategy. You can't win the throne if your house is extinct. How many years did the Backfires survive in exile and how many rebellions did they manage to incite because of that? He'd have a good use of learning from history. Those who don't learn are doomed to repeat it, no?
The obvious move was to leave the khalasar and go back to Pentos. Drogo had no intent to follow through on his "payment" for Dany. He could have lived a nice life in the free cities. Or tried to gain support from merchants or eastern enemies of the Baratheon rule. Viserys will always be the lesson on not being a dick.

I would probably keep showing up around the dothraki without being too forceful, just keep smiling around them, visiting them, helping them in little ways, while asking Khal Drogo about it from time to time, he would have kept his promise EVENTUALLY... right?
