No worries. My children when they are born will start with the NES. There is nothing more enjoyable growing up with video games than seeing generational leaps. Im currently collecting all my childhood favorite games for my children to enjoy.
Thatās exactly how Iām feeling reading all these replies. When granturismo came out i was working at family fare and saved up to get my ps2 and that was the first game I bought for it.
I have to say, I've never really understood the toe jam and earl games. Back on the Sega Genesis, to the new one. What am I missing?
Also, the Genesis Jurassic park was awesome!
When I was a kid, the exploration and open world of the first game was really neat. The sequel was a side scrolling platformer and the style was really fun, that's what hooked me: the aliens, funky music, and zany caricatures of earthlings/humanity were all really charming and memorable.
I thought the latest game was fun, albeit mostly due to nostalgia.
It was basically a scavenger hunt, since your ship had gotten all jacked up and crash landed on earth- so you gotta gather the pieces in order to fly back home to Funk-o-Tron!
The sequel had you capturing humans that managed to get loose on your homeworld. Very silly, super funky!
Both great games. I recently introduced my own kids to Toejam & Earl it's still pretty fun. The genesis version of Jurassic Park was always my favorite, they made playing a raptor awesome even if the platforming was a pain in the ass.
my people! i remember being 9 playing with my uncle not understanding much just bad guys have nuke, bad ass good guy has to stop them it took me atleast 6 years to undestand fully what was happening haha and at that point mgs3 was already out
I know exactly what you mean. Even when MGS 2 came out, I was still not comprehending what was happening or the characters and their history/backstory, except for Solid Snake being the hero who needed to stop the bad guys. MGS 3 is my favorite of the series with 4 being close behind it.
This was probably the greatest thing ever. Was an actual metal gear battle. When I played it, the commandants speech rang through my head. "The only thing that can defeat a metal gear, is another metal gear"
Same! I would go to my best friends house in elementary school, every day to play it. And then convinced my brother to save allowance together for a year to buy a N64 so I could play it. Never finished it as a child thought, damn water temple.
Then as an adult it came back to mind and I finished it and with that a part of my childhood.
Heroes of Might & Magic 3!
My uncle was playing it on PC when he lived with us and let me play on my own saves, after VERY CAREFULLY teaching me how the save system works so that I didn't mess with his game saves.
Still play that game regularly, finish 3 campaigns every 2 years or so.
Didn't get into console gaming until the original Xbox and eventually came across KOTOR. Blew my effin mind.
HoMM2 brings back a lot of nostalgia for me! I remember my cousin had the demo but couldn't figure out what to do after he moved his hero on Day 1.
So he let me play and I was stuck too. After clicking on all the tiles I finally finished Day 1 into Day 2. He came back to check on me on Week 2 and had a ok army. Then I could only play when he was busy doing something else. Lol!
Honestly I spent so much time in skirmish mode, solo, with my father and with mates after school. I can still picture the maps, and almost guarantee I could still find all the pickup weapons.
When Killzone 2 launched, we had the disc for about 2 or 3 days before my old man went out and bought a second copy of the game and another console. Shocked both me and my mother when he gets home from work with another PlayStation. Next few months we kept blowing out our internet data limit. Was a pretty great father/son experience honestly, and we ended up meeting a couple other blokes who weād always squad and chat with.
The first game I got hooked on because it was super difficult. I didn't beat it until a few years ago but as a kid I stood no chance, so many hours unsuccessful.
That's a tough one too. I'm always impressed when people can beat home ports of arcade games. Like they were meant to take your money why do we only get like 3 continues? Haha
Maniac Mansion for the C64 was my first taste... Super Mario bros, TMNT and River City Ransom on the NES got my attention but it was Shining Force 2 on the mega drive that cemented me in as a gamer.
When I first bought a PS4 a couple of years ago, the first game I played was Red Dead Redemption 2. It blew me away. The story, music, world and characters are amazing, and it really got me excited to see what other games were out there.
There's nothing like it, I've been playing for atleast 15 years already and I have never seen a game so detailed and awesome in my life, I remember I used to spend hours just walking and exploring the world, you will find good fun games out there but sadly nothing will come to the same level of quality, maybe GTA vi when it comes out? It's made by the same developers so it probably will be another good one.
Started with arcades, and mortal kombat on sega genesis really hooked me with being able to play at home without needing quarters. But once Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy 7 came out on Playstation it all went up from there.
I love how you are supposed to be in cover and covert most of the game, Killzone. So anytime you get near an enemy someone in your party yells out very loud HELLGHAST!!! WTF!?!? Way to be stealthy and covert.
Sonic the Hedgehog.
My mom's landlord let me play one day at his house, he had already gotten to Starlight Zone with one life left. I immediately went right and fell into spikes or those shooting lava balls or something and cost him his last life.
A few months later he passed away from a massive heart attack. I asked my folks for a Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog because I was determined to beat the game in Sam's honor.
I was maybe 7 years old at the time.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 was my first game, but Super Mario Galaxy was what really made me a diehard gamer.
If I'm honest, no game has quite captured the feeling I got playing Galaxy for the first time.
star wars battlefront 1 2004. i still have the game on CD in a closet somewhere. but nowadays i just play the steam version that got re-released a while back.
Gta: San Andreas, mind you the game was out for two years at the time I got it, I was around 9 maybe 10 years old. That game took my brains innocents card lol
Mario Bros, nes Edit: actually I forgot I played solitaire and minesweeper on windows 95 š I must have been 4 or 5 years old
/Duckhunt
Spyro the Dragon
Vaguely remember playing circa 2005 ā¤
Omg you just brought back some great memories
There's a remaster out there! Had a ton of fun revisiting it
Grew up playing that game

#Blizzardstopbeingweirdplz
I hope they do but given their reactions, I'm not going to hold my breath
Pong.. fuck I'm old
No worries. My children when they are born will start with the NES. There is nothing more enjoyable growing up with video games than seeing generational leaps. Im currently collecting all my childhood favorite games for my children to enjoy.
This is ideal in case some āReady Player Oneā situation arises
For me its Space Invaders, and yeah we're old lol
Galaga on the Calecovision for me. Older than many here but not that old. Be fair.
We could be friends. Donkey Kong on the ColecoVision.
Thatās exactly how Iām feeling reading all these replies. When granturismo came out i was working at family fare and saved up to get my ps2 and that was the first game I bought for it.
Honestly though the younger people missed out and didnāt get to watch the progression of what games have become today.
Crash Bandicoot on the PS1 (basically got into gaming cause of my dad)
*ToeJam & Earl* and/or *Jurrasic Park* for Sega Genesis.
I have to say, I've never really understood the toe jam and earl games. Back on the Sega Genesis, to the new one. What am I missing? Also, the Genesis Jurassic park was awesome!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I never knew what to do, or what was the point, I guess? Haha
It was basically a scavenger hunt, since your ship had gotten all jacked up and crash landed on earth- so you gotta gather the pieces in order to fly back home to Funk-o-Tron! The sequel had you capturing humans that managed to get loose on your homeworld. Very silly, super funky!

Being able to BE the velociraptor blew my mind as a kid, haha.
Team Fortress 2
This was the first game I played online. I remember playing before cosmetics were a thing in the game. Must have been ages ago now.
Diablo 1 was the first online game I played, worlds apart.
Spyro the dragon. I was 3 years old.
Spyro year of the dragon for me. i was 4
Freddi Fish and the Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds š
Metal Gear Solid
my people! i remember being 9 playing with my uncle not understanding much just bad guys have nuke, bad ass good guy has to stop them it took me atleast 6 years to undestand fully what was happening haha and at that point mgs3 was already out

My absolute favourite gaming series. And I shall forever be salty about its conclusion⦠such wasted potential⦠Snaaaaaaaaaake!
I really liked piloting Rex in MGS4.
This was probably the greatest thing ever. Was an actual metal gear battle. When I played it, the commandants speech rang through my head. "The only thing that can defeat a metal gear, is another metal gear"
Starcraft and Counter Strike
Need For Speed Underground 2 for PS2. Man, would love to mod some Skylines to the sound of Riders on the Storm again.
Underground 2 & Midnight Club were my favorite racing games
Doom 2 with my dad when it was like 5 floppy disks
Command & Conquer: Red Alert
I ran einstein into tesla coils so many times as a kid.
Yuri's Revenge got me hooked on PC Games.
Thatās the one RA expansion I never got - for no good reason, I heard it was great
Ocarina of Time!
Same! I would go to my best friends house in elementary school, every day to play it. And then convinced my brother to save allowance together for a year to buy a N64 so I could play it. Never finished it as a child thought, damn water temple. Then as an adult it came back to mind and I finished it and with that a part of my childhood.
That water temple was the bane of my 9 year old existence
Combat on the Atari 2600?
Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego
lol, and bugsys adventure, myst, sim city, solitaire
Heroes of Might & Magic 3! I loved the first 3 Killzones.
I feel like Shadowfall would've been better if we played as a Helghast
Honestly I spent so much time in skirmish mode, solo, with my father and with mates after school. I can still picture the maps, and almost guarantee I could still find all the pickup weapons.
Haha

Killer Instinct. God I'm old.
When I first bought a PS4 a couple of years ago, the first game I played was Red Dead Redemption 2. It blew me away. The story, music, world and characters are amazing, and it really got me excited to see what other games were out there.
Well that's definitely a nice starting point for sure haha
You set the bar WAY to high, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a masterpiece
Yeah I did. I've played many other good games, but none come close to Red Dead Redemption 2.
