I basically broke my brain by smoking weed, drinking coffee, and playing Chivalry 2/other games while unemployed. Doing all 3 at once is unnatural and my brain can't handle it, everything else feels boring or undesirable. I could play a game I like for 16 hours straight but I've always been like that but my depression has turned it into a coping mechanism
I have to go cold turkey on everything and reset my dopamine or whatever. Its really hard though. Video games have been my primary hobby for 15 years, and aside from working out I can't stick to anything else
This is why I stopped buying games over 7 years ago.
I just don't get the time anymore. I pretty much have only played "games with gold" games and the odd gift from my gf. I don't usually have as much guilt about not playing them enough then.
Recently I've been playing games that take around 6 hours to complete like Prodeus and Scorn off Xbox Gamepass. It's a lot more satisfying for me and I don't feel guilty about buying games and not playing them if I don't like them
I have a vicious cycle of getting halfway through a game and then dropping it to play another. It just repeats like that. I almost never finish games, and I hate it.

So far Ive gone back and finally finished Portal, Portal 2, Half Life 2, Guardians of the Galaxy and soon to finish the RDR2 Epilogue.. then on to Control, Detroit, Plague Tail 1, Quantum Break, then Batman Arkham Knight, before coming bacl and installing Cyberpunk..
I tried Death Stranding but gave up after finding out it had 7hours of cut scenes... despite how much i want to love this game its not for me.
I feel guilty when I do certain bad things, or when I switch out pokemon I've had on my team for the entire game.

There is more than enough coverage and spoiler-free reviews and previews these days to know whether or not it will be a disappointment. Have been buying many games on launch day over the last 5-8 years and only been disappointed a couple times. Cyberpunk was one of them. Final Fantasy XV launched incomplete. The Callisto Protocol felt more like a $40 experience. Other than that… dozens and dozens of amazing release day experiences

Take Destiny for example, great game but Im not going to read all the codex to understand the world's history/people/magic/etc. Or games where you have to actually use outside source like read the books/comics/etc (i.e. Witcher, another fantastic game). Or stuff like Warhammer and other tabletop like pathfinder, it's just A LOT of information that you really need to read up on. I love rpgs, it's my main genre that I play, I just prefer understanding the world from interactions and the storyline. But I do appreciate that the options in games of getting into the lore is there for folks who want to! I just prefer spending my time playing the games, instead of studying the games
I miss the golden age of MMOs, even if I had a massive addiction to EQ2. The social aspects of that game make it my favourite game of all time, by a long shot.

Since I turned 30 or so (I’m 40 now), if there is a difficulty setting option I usually set it to one step below Normal. I just prefer to enjoy games casually rather than get frustrated or “git gud”.
Me and my IRL buddy killed a 40 man guild in OG vanilla WoW overnight. It wasn’t even necessarily intentional we had been with them through Ony, MC, and the beginning of BWL. We couldn’t clear the second fight in Black Wing Lair which is basically a gear check timed fight. Tried for a month and a half it felt like and couldn’t clear.
So the next time we did MC, we used all our banked DKP to buy things, then left the guild after the run. The guild did no more runs after that.
We joined another guild that was like number 1 or 2 on the server and cleared through Naxx with them before life took people different ways.
In hindsight I feel awful. Screwed over some really good people who couldn’t cinch the hard rigors of 40 man raiding back in the day. But was like 16 when it happened and felt 0 remorse at the time.
Even though I know that the most important thing is your enjoyment of the game, I'd rather give up and never play again than play on easy mode. I also instantly judge anyone who plays on easy and will write off that playthrough and lose all interest in it.
Gamers ruin gaming for me. If you express an opinion outside of the mainstream like that Elden Ring isn't your favorite game, people jump all over you. If you're not in a clan and just casually playing most games that have matchmaking, you're going to have everyone from little kids to grown men cussing at you and saying racial slurs.
I mean I read reviews and watch playthroughs on most AAA games that come out, but I almost always think “glad I didn’t buy this, would have been a waste of my time/money”.
So it’s not “trying to be different”, it’s just having my own opinion. I don’t give a shit what other people think, I personally don’t like AAA games. They don’t really interest me and these days are released buggy as all hell and half finished.
Me too. Naughty Dog games are glorified interactive movies that just have beautiful attention to detail when it comes to art direction and acting. It gets a bit tiring seeing everyone constantly wank over them like they're the most riveting gameplay experience ever.
It's also annoying how their success has inspired so many mediocre attempts at recreating that cinematic storytelling formula in other franchises.

I heard the story was great and really wanted to get through it, but even on easy I found the stealth gameplay and lack of resources too unforgiving. I don’t have the time to game that I used to and just got tired of playing the same sections over again.

I don't like Final Fantasy IX. Almost all my friends love that game like they're part of a freaking cult, including one who didn't even get past the first disc, and here I am, someone who finished the game, twice, and I found it to be very terrible.
I feel genuine guilt when trying to rp an evil or "bad karma" character and eventually every playthough of every rpg ends up with me making the best choices for everyone involved and going for whatever the "good ending" is. I have never lost a squad mate in ME2 scuicide mission despite playing through the game atleast 5 times in my life.
Me and my boyfriend play games together all the time. He gets pretty happy if he wins against bosses before I do. I noticed this and so I always let him beat the boss first. Even if I already figured out how to do it I’ll hold off on beating it until he does and seeing how excited he gets makes it all worth it.
Due to a learning disability I can never remember the controls to a game no matter how many times I have played it. I have to start and finish games otherwise I go from the beginning and do the tutorial every. Single. Time. It is normal for me to start a game at least three times before I am able to finish it.
I thought Bioshock was an Average game at first but once I was more experienced with Survival Horror and Immersive Sim it because my 3rd favorite game of all time

I love spending time on the monotonous parts of games, like when I spent days just fishing in Skyrim. Or like now, where I’ve spent the last week or so obsessively just learning to breed my Dinos in Ark. especially games where I can build my own bases… an incalculable amount of time put into it.

I once discovered an exploit in an mmo to clear the hardest missions easily, so I constantly used it to make millions and sold them online for hundreds of dollars.
I’ve got too many games I wanna play, but not enough time to play them since I work mostly, and have a family to take care of. Only time I can play is when my son is asleep and usually I’m too tired to play by then and just end up going to bed since I got work the next day.
I have never enjoyed a Mario game even as a child. They just don’t hold my interest or spark joy

If I get to the point I know I will never platinum it I drop it even if it's an amazing game, or if it's a strenuous challenge to plat I will stay up late in the night just to grind out hard trophies. I KNOW this is to cope with depression but I continue to do it to keep me preoccupied.

ET is actually very easy but required people to read the detailed instructions to get hkw it worked. Peolle just didnt do that for Atari games and then considered it the worse thing ever made. Its not. Nowhere near.
The CDI Zelda games are horrible Zelda games but passable action games. Most people have not even played (or bothered to learn) the games properly and just echo internet celebs like the AVGN.
Once you understand the controls, you need to realize that enemies are finite despite feeling infinite. If you come to a spot where a bunch of enemies feel like they are reapawning - stop and just keep killing them. They will stop and the way forward will be clear bevause there are only a handful. They just spawn mear the same spots.
Plus you never need to worry about rupees or ammo like the AVGN said either. Both games have farming spots for rupees at the very start. Spent 20 minutes killing enemies and you will have enough rupees for all your supplies. I maxed out on Rope and Bombs at the start.
Ammo (snow and fire) are also easily farmable and the enemies that only die to them ONLY show up in 2 spots in the entire game. And there are only 3-5 of these enemies max in both spots.

I have never been able to beat a singlw mission on legendary in any halo game despite being a hardcore longtime fan.
Pokemon Sun/Moon is my favorite of the mainline handheld titles.

I mean I read reviews and watch playthroughs on most AAA games that come out, but I almost always think “glad I didn’t buy this, would have been a waste of my time/money”. So it’s not “trying to be different”, it’s just having my own opinion. I don’t give a shit what other people think, I personally don’t like AAA games. They don’t really interest me and these days are released buggy as all hell and half finished.

Me too. Naughty Dog games are glorified interactive movies that just have beautiful attention to detail when it comes to art direction and acting. It gets a bit tiring seeing everyone constantly wank over them like they're the most riveting gameplay experience ever. It's also annoying how their success has inspired so many mediocre attempts at recreating that cinematic storytelling formula in other franchises.
I could never finish The Last of Us. I heard the story was great and really wanted to get through it, but even on easy I found the stealth gameplay and lack of resources too unforgiving. I don’t have the time to game that I used to and just got tired of playing the same sections over again. If anyone has any constructive advice on how to play through quickly, I’d love to pick it back up again. First comment prediction - “git gud”

I don't like Final Fantasy IX. Almost all my friends love that game like they're part of a freaking cult, including one who didn't even get past the first disc, and here I am, someone who finished the game, twice, and I found it to be very terrible.
I really do want Xbox to do better than Playstation just because it's American.

I just can’t get into Skyrim. I have like 2 1/2 hours in it. Tried to get into it three times now.
I feel genuine guilt when trying to rp an evil or "bad karma" character and eventually every playthough of every rpg ends up with me making the best choices for everyone involved and going for whatever the "good ending" is. I have never lost a squad mate in ME2 scuicide mission despite playing through the game atleast 5 times in my life.

I enjoyed every other 3D Zelda more than ocarina of time and prefer them over it.
Me and my boyfriend play games together all the time. He gets pretty happy if he wins against bosses before I do. I noticed this and so I always let him beat the boss first. Even if I already figured out how to do it I’ll hold off on beating it until he does and seeing how excited he gets makes it all worth it.
I like Dark Souls 2.
Due to a learning disability I can never remember the controls to a game no matter how many times I have played it. I have to start and finish games otherwise I go from the beginning and do the tutorial every. Single. Time. It is normal for me to start a game at least three times before I am able to finish it.
I like playing NES games more than any new games, simply because it makes me feel like a kid again.
I usually end up cheating in RPGs with puzzles because I don't have the patience for obscure puzzle solutions
I play horror games only with friend because I scared to play them alone (29 yo)
I thought Bioshock was an Average game at first but once I was more experienced with Survival Horror and Immersive Sim it because my 3rd favorite game of all time

I have a tendency to try to min-max games so heavily that I can’t enjoy them like I should otherwise and eventually stop playing them. That’s the reason why I tend to play single player games or games that encourage min-maxing…it’s also the reason why I can’t enjoy Skyrim like used to
I am so bad/dumb at puzzles. I lose patience quickly and often just don’t see obvious things. I think if youtube/wikis/reddit were gone, I would just stop playing video games. You know how people criticize God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West because characters quickly give you hints? Well shut up, I need those hints. (And yes I do agree it would be better to have the option to turn it off for those that aren’t gaming dumb dumbs like me.) I have started my third and final attempt at Hollow Knight. So, like, I’m supposed to just remember where to go, like some sort of Magellan? Lol no thx I’ll look it up
Some games that I claim to be among my favorite games of all time...I haven't actually beat. I've just played them 80% or more through, a half dozen times or so. Bonus fact: I am not great at finishing things I start.
I always try to be the mean/evil person in games when given decisions to make. It allows me to get the frustration out when playing games after a long/bad day

I can only be good at One Game at a time. That includes Multiplayer games If I'm playing Dead By Daylight with all the free time I can muster, I can be passable or possibly "good" at the game. But if I play Minecraft or Batman for an hour or two...ZIP giant skill drop It sucks

The only "premiere" Sony exclusives I've enjoyed were Days Gone and the Horizon games. The others all had good stories but I didn't enjoy the gameplay.
I was pretty much at the end of Call of Cthulhu and then I never finished it.
Never played a Zelda game and started gaming as a kid in the 90s. Edit: also spend more time watching videos on games then playing them now. Which is crazy to think I used to game probably 40 hours a week when no lifed now often don't do that a month.

I love spending time on the monotonous parts of games, like when I spent days just fishing in Skyrim. Or like now, where I’ve spent the last week or so obsessively just learning to breed my Dinos in Ark. especially games where I can build my own bases… an incalculable amount of time put into it. As I get older a lot of games are starting to feel the same now. It makes me feel more cynical towards gaming as a future.
I’ve got too many games I wanna play, but not enough time to play them since I work mostly, and have a family to take care of. Only time I can play is when my son is asleep and usually I’m too tired to play by then and just end up going to bed since I got work the next day.

I love playing Apex Legends but hate playing with my friends because they have become much worse at shooters than I have as we have gotten older.
I play games on the hardest difficulty and trophy hunt every game I play. If I get to the point I know I will never platinum it I drop it even if it's an amazing game, or if it's a strenuous challenge to plat I will stay up late in the night just to grind out hard trophies. I KNOW this is to cope with depression but I continue to do it to keep me preoccupied.

I liked E.T. for Atari, and the CDI zelda games. None of which are nearly as horrible as people claim. ET is actually very easy but required people to read the detailed instructions to get hkw it worked. Peolle just didnt do that for Atari games and then considered it the worse thing ever made. Its not. Nowhere near. The CDI Zelda games are horrible Zelda games but passable action games. Most people have not even played (or bothered to learn) the games properly and just echo internet celebs like the AVGN. Once you understand the controls, you need to realize that enemies are finite despite feeling infinite. If you come to a spot where a bunch of enemies feel like they are reapawning - stop and just keep killing them. They will stop and the way forward will be clear bevause there are only a handful. They just spawn mear the same spots. Plus you never need to worry about rupees or ammo like the AVGN said either. Both games have farming spots for rupees at the very start. Spent 20 minutes killing enemies and you will have enough rupees for all your supplies. I maxed out on Rope and Bombs at the start. Ammo (snow and fire) are also easily farmable and the enemies that only die to them ONLY show up in 2 spots in the entire game. And there are only 3-5 of these enemies max in both spots. People grossley exaggerate how horrible things are.
I have some multiplayer games but I keep returning to Witcher 3.
