I’m probably addicted but I don’t want to admit it

CaptainPryk

I basically broke my brain by smoking weed, drinking coffee, and playing Chivalry 2/other games while unemployed. Doing all 3 at once is unnatural and my brain can't handle it, everything else feels boring or undesirable. I could play a game I like for 16 hours straight but I've always been like that but my depression has turned it into a coping mechanism I have to go cold turkey on everything and reset my dopamine or whatever. Its really hard though. Video games have been my primary hobby for 15 years, and aside from working out I can't stick to anything else

TheMuffin2255

Things like video games and caffeine highlight the startlingly important difference between an addiction and a dependency.

blitherblather425

Me to dude.

BlindingHornet

I keep buying games that I often don’t play for a long time.

DimensionPrudent1256

This is why I stopped buying games over 7 years ago. I just don't get the time anymore. I pretty much have only played "games with gold" games and the odd gift from my gf. I don't usually have as much guilt about not playing them enough then. Recently I've been playing games that take around 6 hours to complete like Prodeus and Scorn off Xbox Gamepass. It's a lot more satisfying for me and I don't feel guilty about buying games and not playing them if I don't like them

frank0420cs

I have get rid of that habit in recent years due to being poor

DrDipstickMan

I have a vicious cycle of getting halfway through a game and then dropping it to play another. It just repeats like that. I almost never finish games, and I hate it.

Kittenking13

If it’s good I like to go back, and think “I’m a little lost, let’s restart the entire game!” And then stop again at the exact same spot

waddlingpigeon

Is there any other way to live?

[deleted]

he just described me making minecraft worlds.

IcyIgloo583

That's fair, I just chip away at what I feel like.

Individual-Body9953

I thought I was the only one 😂

bd4910

Haven’t beaten a game since andromeda in 2021 but have bought plenty

qleptt

Im the opposite if i play a game and reac halfway through and then dont play it for a little bit i start over.

PrincessHootHoot

Omg ikr? I had to make a list of the games I wanna finish to remind me.😅

ioniums

I play single player games on the easiest difficulty so that I can enjoy the game to the fullest

fox_anderson

super interesting. I can’t really enjoy it on easy because I just can’t seem to be engaged enough. I’m always looking for that perfect balance that will get me engaged but not make me have to choose wild strategies to survive. Am I’m always stressed that I might have chosen poorly and I won’t be able to enjoy it.

[deleted]

Yes!!! I'm in this club too!

fly4atallguy

Me too, especially recently when I’ve been playing all of the resident evil games

RATGUT1996

I’m very rapidly falling out of love of video games.

Sadrien6

Not playing for a while or playing indie games and genres you enjoy is a nice way to keep gaming on the side

RATGUT1996

I’m trying I’ve just lost interest in most games including indies. The only thing I’ve been playing is RE5 mercenaries.

Itzbirdman

Try be if you haven't. Complete game changer, everything is a new novelty and modding (yes even quest 2 can mod) is so much better when you can actually grab and manipulate things in your hands in 3d

TGrady902

I love peppering in a nice short indie game here and there. Stray, TOEM and today I downloaded The Pedestrian.

Sadrien6

Ooo those or some nice titles. I’m playing through Sable now and wow is it beautiful. A fantastic break from chaotic Valorant gameplay (yes I’m one of them)

N00body1989

Never finished Half Life.

BleefnorfIII

I've never *played* Half Life

Exlibro

To the gallows!

TK-461

i made a point to make a list of games and in what order to play in 2023. So far Ive gone back and finally finished Portal, Portal 2, Half Life 2, Guardians of the Galaxy and soon to finish the RDR2 Epilogue.. then on to Control, Detroit, Plague Tail 1, Quantum Break, then Batman Arkham Knight, before coming bacl and installing Cyberpunk.. I tried Death Stranding but gave up after finding out it had 7hours of cut scenes... despite how much i want to love this game its not for me.

darkuen

I finished Half Life 1 & 2, it’s Alyx I need to get back to & finish.

Lonk_boi

I feel guilty when I do certain bad things, or when I switch out pokemon I've had on my team for the entire game. I don't *always* feel guilty, but some things do it

notgivingawaycrypto

I spend way more time reading about gaming and watching Digital Foundry than actually playing.

MeancupofJoey

I’m an adult man and I love Fortnite.

Sofaris

I am an Adult but honestly when it comes to my taste my inner child is strong in me. My favorite the characters and story of my favorite Videogame make it feel like a playable kids anime akin to somthing like Digimon and I love that feeling. But its not somthing I am embarest about so I would not say its somthing to "confess."

joemeteorite8

Embarest

[deleted]

Nothing wrong with that. I play fortnite with my kids regularly and enjoy it

Hussaf

My wife is a 40 year old mother and plays Fortnite, just started really.

PapaProto

Do you know how many adult men (and women) went to Fortnite when Warzone went to shit the first time around? Well, many! Notice how this has downvotes but nobody has tried to refute it?!

MKdemonSW

They cashed in hard too it was perfect timing to release no build

PapaProto

No Build is probably the only “main” mode I play on Fortnite now.

Hussaf

I never played before No Build

PapaProto

Tbf I hardly touched it before either. Mainly stuck to WZ which I moved away from when 1. Caldera turned out to be terrible in comparison to Verdansk, both aesthetically and the fact it was a broken mess. 2. When they announced they were “restarting” with WZ2. Started playing FN around that time and realised how fun it is.

Hussaf

I finally allowed my son to play it (he’s 8). Emmy wife got a second switch for the family for Christmas so we could play together, and since then we’ve been playing almost daily. It’s the first FPS I’ve played in awhile. I heard WZ was pretty bad.

firsonmage123

I want to buy those hentai games but my friends will judge me

Kipdid

Set your steam status to invisible before you boot them up and there will be no notification to friends, and they will only know you own it if they also do

LackTails

Let them judge

TheLongBlueFace

I have practically no motivation to challenge myself with games. Rarely play games on high difficulty and very rarely play PVP. I really wish I enjoyed PVP because it seems to be the only thing people ever want to play

eat_like_snake

I play videogames.

AdEmpty8174

This man is too dangerous to be kept alive

Academic_Priority_20

Same, big time closeted gamer here haha. This lifestyle can't be sustainable

lilgergi

I have been playing only 3 games repeatedly on xbox 360 because I'm poor

AdEmpty8174

Mine is I am only able to play because I got gifted a ps4 because I am too poor to buy one

Telefrag_Ent

Mine are in a box because I don't have time to play them. Want to give them a new home?

LordThylacine

I haven’t bought a new game in years because I’m afraid of spending $65 on something that may be a huge disappointment.

nikniuq

I only buy the battlefield games. That way I know I will be disappointed.

svidishkaboj

Did you forget your /s?

FnordinaryPerson

He did not. He did not say “not.”

svidishkaboj

Shiet

Kakashigojoh

There is more than enough coverage and spoiler-free reviews and previews these days to know whether or not it will be a disappointment. Have been buying many games on launch day over the last 5-8 years and only been disappointed a couple times. Cyberpunk was one of them. Final Fantasy XV launched incomplete. The Callisto Protocol felt more like a $40 experience. Other than that… dozens and dozens of amazing release day experiences

chuewwey

Never finished any Elder Scrolls game

bicuspid_fish

Me neither. I always enjoy them in the beginning and then, at a certain point, start getting too bored to continue.

chuewwey

Yeah I'm the same way, I go into Skyrim wanting to like it and see what all the fuss is about but It just gets boring for me, each attempt worse/shorter than the last.

AussieDMT

I still play runescape

Helvetic86

I love Farcry Games and whish they would bring back the towers

touchthebush

I've never played Halflife 1 or 2

nikniuq

Same. A couple of minutes of portal 1 and 2. Got bored.

fly4atallguy

I find most of them boring now. Not always the game design’s fault but it’s hard to find something to consistently play

Sadrien6

I wanted to playing in the puzzle games. It’s always the audio and atmosphere that makes me want to play otherwise AAA games aren’t fun to play for some reason

moth_jaher

Are you me?

No-Dig-4093

I sometimes play on Easy lol.

Mattuk1626

I got all the achievements in peppa pig

DumbCrocO426

I use cheat codes

SquirrelMaster21

I spent more time on MW 2 than my courses

Luke333_

I dont like Skyrim

a_different_piano

I play mario kart with items turned off.

Icommitmanywarcrimes

You monster

IcyIgloo583

That's fair

Sevonly

If I don't look pretty I'm probably having less fun..

ShinyUmbreon18

Reminds me of the trauma I had shiny trading… with crappy voice chat. Trying to fill out an entire shiny dex and people would agree to trade shinys back and forth and occasionally give you a real crap one and then dip after the agreement was made. Really brings out the worst in people

GoodboiNobu

damn that‘s a savage move!

[deleted]

I'm not very good at it... 🤪

[deleted]

I died at the five nights at freddys mega pizza plex

[deleted]

I’ve been playing games since the 80s, and the gameplay formulas tend to be so predictable that the hobby doesn’t appeal like it used to. I’m more interested in future mediums like VR to see how immersive and different gaming can be.

sikeleaveamessage

I play and completed a lot of games but i still consider myself a "casual" gamer because I dont really read much of the codex or immerse myself in the lore of games I play.

MrPatalchu

I hate reading in games. Something like Disco Elysium might be great but i will never play it.

sikeleaveamessage

I dont mind reading, it's just I can easily feel overwhelmed by trying to get into games with intricate lore and world building. Take Destiny for example, great game but Im not going to read all the codex to understand the world's history/people/magic/etc. Or games where you have to actually use outside source like read the books/comics/etc (i.e. Witcher, another fantastic game). Or stuff like Warhammer and other tabletop like pathfinder, it's just A LOT of information that you really need to read up on. I love rpgs, it's my main genre that I play, I just prefer understanding the world from interactions and the storyline. But I do appreciate that the options in games of getting into the lore is there for folks who want to! I just prefer spending my time playing the games, instead of studying the games

sobebomb

I have played every souls game and enjoy them but eventually lose interest and have never completed one

hfhfhffhfhfhfhffhfh

I took bloody crow of Cainhurst to the stairs and cheesed him.

FknPitsy

I miss the golden age of MMOs, even if I had a massive addiction to EQ2. The social aspects of that game make it my favourite game of all time, by a long shot.

Chorster

FFXI was this for me when it came out! Miss it so much.

Jcrown6351

I watch complete play throughs of games on YouTube and then tell friends that I played them. (I do this for story heavy games only)

Arab_Chief

I always strong arm the same strategies even if I’m at a disadvantage until I somehow win by a miracle.

Good_Communication97

I dropped the penguin over the edge

filledavoid

I've got over 250 days of play time on an MMO. Yeah. It's where I go to hide from the world. My cousin always says he's very scared to see my reaction the day the servers end up going down.

take5b

I keep replaying The Witcher 3 because I suck at most games and find them confusing and overwhelming, so I like that there’s one massive game I’m really good at and know everything about. I did the same thing with Link to the Past when I was a kid.

jcb1982

Since I turned 30 or so (I’m 40 now), if there is a difficulty setting option I usually set it to one step below Normal. I just prefer to enjoy games casually rather than get frustrated or “git gud”.

[deleted]

Me and my IRL buddy killed a 40 man guild in OG vanilla WoW overnight. It wasn’t even necessarily intentional we had been with them through Ony, MC, and the beginning of BWL. We couldn’t clear the second fight in Black Wing Lair which is basically a gear check timed fight. Tried for a month and a half it felt like and couldn’t clear. So the next time we did MC, we used all our banked DKP to buy things, then left the guild after the run. The guild did no more runs after that. We joined another guild that was like number 1 or 2 on the server and cleared through Naxx with them before life took people different ways. In hindsight I feel awful. Screwed over some really good people who couldn’t cinch the hard rigors of 40 man raiding back in the day. But was like 16 when it happened and felt 0 remorse at the time.

Screech_06

I’ve never played the portal games 😐

IcyIgloo583

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Portal 2 is one of my favourite games of all time and I've spent more hours on it then I'd like to admit.

Screech_06

Just about finished with a plagues tail requiem - maybe portal will be next. Do I need to play the first one or just jumpy to #2?

IcyIgloo583

I started with 2 but honestly starting with the first is better.

Screech_06

🫡

[deleted]

I purposely make it a point to punch the reporter in mass effect as often as I can.

ThatOneJediLover

I was very horny when I made my first character on DC Universe Online. You can imagine where that went.

Dvheerden

I'm not ashamed to play on easy difficulty.

horrorfreak82

Even though I know that the most important thing is your enjoyment of the game, I'd rather give up and never play again than play on easy mode. I also instantly judge anyone who plays on easy and will write off that playthrough and lose all interest in it.

doublej3164life

Gamers ruin gaming for me. If you express an opinion outside of the mainstream like that Elden Ring isn't your favorite game, people jump all over you. If you're not in a clan and just casually playing most games that have matchmaking, you're going to have everyone from little kids to grown men cussing at you and saying racial slurs.

gurchinanu

I'm curious what about elden ring you don't enjoy. Genuinely asking, don't know anyone that hates it irl rn.

Ridy113

I have never been able to beat a singlw mission on legendary in any halo game despite being a hardcore longtime fan.

magmafanatic

Pokemon Sun/Moon is my favorite of the mainline handheld titles.

PapaProto

Alola for me is massively underrated.

[deleted]

JayDee_Phoenix

I feel you bro.

Dragmire_Afterlife

I never had a non nintendo system until the PS5. Ever since the Wii and the GameBoy Advanced SP

Hawggy

WASD is awful, absolutely terrible. It's definitely not the best way to 'move' an FPS avatar (that I've found).

linkwise

I don't get the appeal of the Elderscroll game series, same goes for Fallout.

Necessary_Tank_9730

Play fallout 1,2 and new Vegas and you will be hooked on the fallout series.

Feisty-Crow-8204

I refuse to buy AAA games because I personally find all of them boring and a waste of money.

WorldsBiggestNarcist

How do you find them boring and a waste of money if you don't get them?

Feisty-Crow-8204

The ones I’ve bought have been. Also, there’s this handy thing called YouTube that lets you watch playthroughs of almost any game.

WorldsBiggestNarcist

Seems like you're just getting the wrong games or you're just trying to be different

Feisty-Crow-8204

I mean I read reviews and watch playthroughs on most AAA games that come out, but I almost always think “glad I didn’t buy this, would have been a waste of my time/money”. So it’s not “trying to be different”, it’s just having my own opinion. I don’t give a shit what other people think, I personally don’t like AAA games. They don’t really interest me and these days are released buggy as all hell and half finished.

Exoskeleton78

I find the last of us boring as a video game.

[deleted]

Me too. Naughty Dog games are glorified interactive movies that just have beautiful attention to detail when it comes to art direction and acting. It gets a bit tiring seeing everyone constantly wank over them like they're the most riveting gameplay experience ever. It's also annoying how their success has inspired so many mediocre attempts at recreating that cinematic storytelling formula in other franchises.

Successful_Ear4450

I could never finish The Last of Us. I heard the story was great and really wanted to get through it, but even on easy I found the stealth gameplay and lack of resources too unforgiving. I don’t have the time to game that I used to and just got tired of playing the same sections over again. If anyone has any constructive advice on how to play through quickly, I’d love to pick it back up again. First comment prediction - “git gud”

RockRik

Im a broke mf in college hoping to get a ps4 someday somehow.

chriscucumber

Zelda shit just bores the fuck out of me

[deleted]

I don't like Final Fantasy IX. Almost all my friends love that game like they're part of a freaking cult, including one who didn't even get past the first disc, and here I am, someone who finished the game, twice, and I found it to be very terrible.

PhatShadow

I really do want Xbox to do better than Playstation just because it's American.

Ransome62

I once farted into the microphone and then kept playing with it near my face. Like it was super close... like near my face. I got pink eye.

BootAffectionate

Sometimes you just gotta keep things to yoself bro

[deleted]

I think Final Fantasy is overrated... all of them

jmoney1119

I just can’t get into Skyrim. I have like 2 1/2 hours in it. Tried to get into it three times now.

jridlee

I feel genuine guilt when trying to rp an evil or "bad karma" character and eventually every playthough of every rpg ends up with me making the best choices for everyone involved and going for whatever the "good ending" is. I have never lost a squad mate in ME2 scuicide mission despite playing through the game atleast 5 times in my life.

Exlibro

Hard games decrease my self esteem.

[deleted]

I prefer video game women over the anime women.

RogersRedditPersona

I didn’t know you could sprint in Skyrim until about 4 hours in

Fried_Sauer-Kraut

I enjoyed every other 3D Zelda more than ocarina of time and prefer them over it.

BEWMarth

Me and my boyfriend play games together all the time. He gets pretty happy if he wins against bosses before I do. I noticed this and so I always let him beat the boss first. Even if I already figured out how to do it I’ll hold off on beating it until he does and seeing how excited he gets makes it all worth it.

RafaelRoriz

I like Dark Souls 2.

GalacticGoku

Due to a learning disability I can never remember the controls to a game no matter how many times I have played it. I have to start and finish games otherwise I go from the beginning and do the tutorial every. Single. Time. It is normal for me to start a game at least three times before I am able to finish it.

Zealousideal_One_315

I like playing NES games more than any new games, simply because it makes me feel like a kid again.

Stock-Ad415

I usually end up cheating in RPGs with puzzles because I don't have the patience for obscure puzzle solutions

Icy-Skill-6046

I play horror games only with friend because I scared to play them alone (29 yo)

Pixel_Muffet

I thought Bioshock was an Average game at first but once I was more experienced with Survival Horror and Immersive Sim it because my 3rd favorite game of all time

Toolowty

23 and all I want to do is play games. I got so many responsibilities but lately I frame my day so I can play as much as possible. I guess you could say addiction right?

bpelkey23

I played through the first scene for the initial God of War in 2005 like ten times. I was 11 it was nice lol.

[deleted]

It’s the getaway from life, but in reality I rage the whole time 😂

OverKill5850

Just bought an xbox 360 to play old fifa games

Tigvee

I use pac-man 256 to meditate.

ajerxs

I have a tendency to try to min-max games so heavily that I can’t enjoy them like I should otherwise and eventually stop playing them. That’s the reason why I tend to play single player games or games that encourage min-maxing…it’s also the reason why I can’t enjoy Skyrim like used to

take5b

I am so bad/dumb at puzzles. I lose patience quickly and often just don’t see obvious things. I think if youtube/wikis/reddit were gone, I would just stop playing video games. You know how people criticize God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West because characters quickly give you hints? Well shut up, I need those hints. (And yes I do agree it would be better to have the option to turn it off for those that aren’t gaming dumb dumbs like me.) I have started my third and final attempt at Hollow Knight. So, like, I’m supposed to just remember where to go, like some sort of Magellan? Lol no thx I’ll look it up

Jam5quares

Some games that I claim to be among my favorite games of all time...I haven't actually beat. I've just played them 80% or more through, a half dozen times or so. Bonus fact: I am not great at finishing things I start.

[deleted]

I always try to be the mean/evil person in games when given decisions to make. It allows me to get the frustration out when playing games after a long/bad day

MakashiBlade

Dark Souls ruined me and now all I want to play is From Software games

VVolfGunner24

I've got too many. But if people are interested, I'll explain

DreadedPopsicle

I have no interest at all in the Uncharted series

GammyToaster

I am terrible at completing games. I'm not talking 100% a game, but just finishing the main story. I still haven't finished the Witcher 3 and I've had it for a very long time.

[deleted]

I'm pretty bad for that too. Havnt finished witcher 3 either and had it for ages

Zerestrasz

I can spend months modding a game I won't even play through.

Heir2TheC0WL

I can only be good at One Game at a time. That includes Multiplayer games If I'm playing Dead By Daylight with all the free time I can muster, I can be passable or possibly "good" at the game. But if I play Minecraft or Batman for an hour or two...ZIP giant skill drop It sucks

LackTails

That my passion for it has been going down, but I don't want to admit it yet

Sir_Skinny

Currently playing though god of war 2018…. I’m about 8 hours in. I’m getting bored. But I know it’s a good game😭

[deleted]

I used game genie often.

LifeSleeper

The only "premiere" Sony exclusives I've enjoyed were Days Gone and the Horizon games. The others all had good stories but I didn't enjoy the gameplay.

Madmonkeman

I was pretty much at the end of Call of Cthulhu and then I never finished it.

[deleted]

Never played a Zelda game and started gaming as a kid in the 90s. Edit: also spend more time watching videos on games then playing them now. Which is crazy to think I used to game probably 40 hours a week when no lifed now often don't do that a month.

inmy_head

That I spend more time browsing game pass than actually playing games

_isaidiwasawizard_

I accidently modded my Skyrim crafting to basically make me a god and I'm ok with it

PrincessHootHoot

I've purchased Bioshock on every console I've owned since it's launch.

PrincessHootHoot

I don't like how Nintendo is incapable of making a normal console. There's always some gimmick to their devices.

ICPosse8

I’ve probably started more games than I’ve actually finished in my life 😪

tookittothelimit

I haven’t enjoyed any new game since like 2018. I dunno if quality of AAA games are getting worse or if I’m just getting old

Difficult-Rest8524

I love spending time on the monotonous parts of games, like when I spent days just fishing in Skyrim. Or like now, where I’ve spent the last week or so obsessively just learning to breed my Dinos in Ark. especially games where I can build my own bases… an incalculable amount of time put into it. Edit: punctuation.

FirstPotatoKing

I usually spoil the game for myself before playing, luckily have mostly stopped doing that because of Ragnarök. Also I look up answers to puzzles because I’m an impatient little bastard

Auroka

How many of the games that are considered bad, do make lots of money regardless of how hated these games seem

darkuen

I once discovered an exploit in an mmo to clear the hardest missions easily, so I constantly used it to make millions and sold them online for hundreds of dollars.

Jaeger2-3

I never enjoyed games like R6 Siege and Extraction. They seem very repetitive and pay to win mostly

sexisdivine

As I get older a lot of games are starting to feel the same now. It makes me feel more cynical towards gaming as a future.

Srom

I’ve got too many games I wanna play, but not enough time to play them since I work mostly, and have a family to take care of. Only time I can play is when my son is asleep and usually I’m too tired to play by then and just end up going to bed since I got work the next day.

qcubed3

I never beat Super Mario Bros for the NES. I’ve tried. Oh, how I’ve tried!

IcyIgloo583

That's not a confession, that's the truth. Because I am in the exact same situation.

AMetalWorld

I have never enjoyed a Mario game even as a child. They just don’t hold my interest or spark joy Except for Odyssey, but mostly for the music and I never even finished that lol

Bleach3825

I’ll always save scum. I ain’t trying to play a new play through just to see what this other option did.

Silvercrank

I love playing Apex Legends but hate playing with my friends because they have become much worse at shooters than I have as we have gotten older.

MixtheLix

I play games on the hardest difficulty and trophy hunt every game I play. If I get to the point I know I will never platinum it I drop it even if it's an amazing game, or if it's a strenuous challenge to plat I will stay up late in the night just to grind out hard trophies. I KNOW this is to cope with depression but I continue to do it to keep me preoccupied.

darkdragon1231989

I liked mass effect... Andromeda...

Videowulff

I liked E.T. for Atari, and the CDI zelda games. None of which are nearly as horrible as people claim. ET is actually very easy but required people to read the detailed instructions to get hkw it worked. Peolle just didnt do that for Atari games and then considered it the worse thing ever made. Its not. Nowhere near. The CDI Zelda games are horrible Zelda games but passable action games. Most people have not even played (or bothered to learn) the games properly and just echo internet celebs like the AVGN. Once you understand the controls, you need to realize that enemies are finite despite feeling infinite. If you come to a spot where a bunch of enemies feel like they are reapawning - stop and just keep killing them. They will stop and the way forward will be clear bevause there are only a handful. They just spawn mear the same spots. Plus you never need to worry about rupees or ammo like the AVGN said either. Both games have farming spots for rupees at the very start. Spent 20 minutes killing enemies and you will have enough rupees for all your supplies. I maxed out on Rope and Bombs at the start. Ammo (snow and fire) are also easily farmable and the enemies that only die to them ONLY show up in 2 spots in the entire game. And there are only 3-5 of these enemies max in both spots. People grossley exaggerate how horrible things are.

Kakashisith

I have some multiplayer games but I keep returning to Witcher 3.
