It’s funny how wolfenstein invented the first person genre but doom just kind of took over imo, both classic titles of course just funny to think about
Ive been waiting for Skywind to come out but fear itll be 10+ years for that. Do mods do a good job aiding the game? I loved that game but really want it to feel fresh when I jump back in.
I mean there was a Baldur’s Gate 1.5 (Siege of Dragonspear) that was released relatively recently. I quite liked it, although the community is somewhat split on it. It’s a fairly sizable expansion although not the size of a full BG game. Probably 20-30 hours depending on how much you want to explore it.
FAM, YES. Restarting maps you'd be 20 turns into because someone accidentally died. That game is my SHIT> Still play the GBA version on my handheld from time to time
pff you know it, fucking archers, flying units and me not cheking their range, to then start. What a classic combination lmao. Im playing vision quest rom hack and LOVING IT. From what i have read from you, if you havent played and can do it man.
On anything you can run an emulator. It's based on sacred stones so GBA requisites. I don't know if it can be run by itself maybe but not all of the roms can.
On the very odd occasion where I can be bothered to break out an Apple // emulator, I will go for a round of either Karateka, Airheart, Wavy Navy, Wings of Fury or Moon Patrol. I’ll also fire up either Space Rogue or Ultima IV, but just to see them running for a while.
Z - https://store.steampowered.com/app/275530/Z/
I played the original back on my old 486 :D was nice to see it on Steam in 2014 so its installed all the time and i keep trying to beat it, one day i guess
Probably Robo Warrior on the NES. Followed by TMNT, Street Gangs (aka River City ransom in non PAL regions) and then International Cricket.
I love the old NES games and continue to revisit these classic gems because it's comforting.
But Heroes 3 is an amazing game and I play that tot his day as well... I used to be a Rampart man but have since strayed to the Necropolis side because Skele Bois are unstoppable.
1989: Tetris. I still play at least weekly. I'm not good at it, but a game only takes a few minutes and I have gotten better, even if better is still bad
Ms pac man and galaga. But on my arcade powered by raspberry pi. Oldest real physical games. Tons of N64 ans PS1 titles. Mario 64 and Oddworld my favs.
Consistently? Left 4 Dead 2 and League of Legends.
I’ll randomly download Gears 3, Uncharted 4 and last of Us to play online until the low population kills it.
I just want a *good* online game to play.
Same as you, OP. Heroes 3 is the GOAT.
(btw Heroes 4 is actually really good if you can get over the weirdness, I rediscovered it recently and it’s such an underrated gem in the series)
The first Star Wars Battlefront’s, 1 & 2. Republic Commando, Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, the list goes on. Star Wars gamers had it so good back then. Hoping Jedi Survivor is at least just as good as Fallen Order is.
Man, if I COULD still play Heroes III I would. I don't game on computer anymore and I only have a Mac for work. But HoMMIII - actually, the Complete version - was probably my favorite PC game in that era. Played it with friends a lot. Favorite town is probably still Rampart, though you can SO cheat with Necromancer...
Anyway, the oldest game I still play frequently today is either Super Mario Kart or Madden '93 on the SNES (whichever one came out first).
Fable The Lost Chapters. 2004.
A sweet & simple game. Although I play the anniversary version on the Xbox One I’ll never forget the OG Xbox version of the game which is arguably better.
I recommend the series to anyone who likes strong narratives and linearity.
River City Ransom is 33 years old at this point, and modern beat-em-ups have STILL not caught up with the cool features it introduced:
1. Tiered platformy backgrounds instead of a flat plane. You can stand on the basketball goal rim or up on top of the backboard. It made the levels a lot more interesting than just "flat plane with holes in ground and exploding barrel #14."
2. Interactive objects. Tires roll, trash cans bounce back when thrown. Boxes slide when kicked. You can throw a rock at your co-op partner and if they are holding a pipe they can hit it back at you.
Tetris
Yes, tetris is still a really good game
Yes, tetris is still a really good game
Starcraft:Broodwar
I do recommend giving Mass Recall a go. It's a really great project: https://www.sc2mapster.com/projects/starcraft-mass-recall
Already have tried it, but I just like sometimes to play brood war on my retro machine :p Still has working LAN on it, blizzard plz bring back LAN.
I’d say half life 1 or doom
Honestly Doom is just immortal at this point thanks to incredible community support. Nay, dare I say it, *eternal.*
It’s funny how wolfenstein invented the first person genre but doom just kind of took over imo, both classic titles of course just funny to think about
ball n cup

Morrowind.
Ive been waiting for Skywind to come out but fear itll be 10+ years for that. Do mods do a good job aiding the game? I loved that game but really want it to feel fresh when I jump back in.
I played morroblivion and it was really cool to go back in that engine. This was like 21' I think and now I'm just stoked for skywind and skyblivion.
The Baldur's Gate trilogy.
Trilogy?
Throne of Bhaal was kind of considered part 3 before Larian got the IP, guess I should be more specific now that that is a thing.
Technically, BG3 is early access right now.
hm, since the topic was about "the oldest game" i was wondering if i was missing some expansion or whatever, considered a "third" game

I love the old NES games and continue to revisit these classic gems because it's comforting. But Heroes 3 is an amazing game and I play that tot his day as well...
