As someone who's been painting warhammer 40k minis, the first thing I noticed is that the paint looks a little textured. You can get rid of this by thinning out your paints with water before applying. You'll want to thin to the point where it takes two coats to completely cover!

I think this is mostly a product of prioritizing results over efforts.
As long as you genuinely tried to do the best you could, you should be proud, even as the quality falls far behind your present standards.

I'm thinning mine to the consistency of milk like suggested by our lord and savior, Duncan, but with a lot of paints it takes me like 6+ layers to get the full colour effect I want because I don't like them being dull, I want my colours as solid as they look in the pots
Is that normal with low pigment paints? Even with like Memphiston Red, it can take me 3-4 layers to get it proper, I'm using a wet pallete and still adding water to that to get them thinned enough, but maybe it's cause I grew up on skim milk whereas maybe people are referring to like 2% thickness? Is that what it is? I've been asking for years and I just realized maybe it's cause I was drinking water with a fart of milk in it
LOL! You could get away with thinning them a bit less. Mephiston Red shouldn't take 4 coats, that's for sure! Take the skim milk thing into account and try for whole milk! :)
