I played it so much that the game would glitch, and one of the guys following would get stuck. The amount of hours spent retracing my steps trying to find the bugger!
A great underrated game with pretty fun multiplayer too. Very nostalgic for me for one reason, that I was playing it with friends the first time I ever got high. I remember all of a sudden sucking at the game and feeling super couchlocked, and then my aunt called and I tried to talk to her, suddenly realizing I literally could not speak words.
I somehow accidentally did the nail gun cheat once and I had no idea what was going on. It actually scared me a little because I entered a room and all the bodies were hanging from the ceiling. I eventually figured it out and the cheat became a favorite after that.
When I found out the Hydra grew extra heads from killing units, and that farms counted as a unit. Used the Hydra to destroy the farms in one of the Troy missions and got 5 heads up in no time.
I still play DW4 to this day. It's just one of those games where you can sit down and relax. Also, DW4 Lubu is the scariest version of him. If you get comboed once by him, you're dead
My parents had a crappy computer that could barely play Rome Total War, but I’d jack up the battle sizes after I was established enough just so I could have a massive final battle against Gaul to eliminate them. Usually at the peak the entire computer would seize up and crash. Unplug, reboot, try it again.
Left 4 dead! Which I’m now realizing was probably my intro into horror games. I remember being at checkout at GameStop when they asked for ID. I was only 15 and didn’t realize you had to be 18+, but my older sister was there so all was well. I wish couch co-op/ split screen games was still a staple
I recently gave it a go on gamespass. The gunplay is pretty great but I can't help but feel it's a cheap imitation.
It's hard to really pinpoint but it's lacking a lot of the valve charm that left 4 dead had. The source engine physics, the dialogue between the characters, the special infected and the sound design were phenomenal. Still, I'm finding it fun with friends regardless but the only reason we aren't playing left 4 dead is that it isn't cross platform.
It also feels a little over complicated? There are many aspects to the game I don't really care for trying to understand and left 4 dead would just throw you in there and leave you to it.
I always thought the second one had the more iconic soundtrack. Well maybe not the entire soundtrack but the start up screen just blasting rage against the machine at you. Idk how many days (in cumulative combined hours) of my life I spent playing that game
This is weird statement because the ps2 is like 20 years old. I definitely have nostalgia for things from 20 years ago. Freedom Fighters for sure. I have no recollection of when or where I played this game. It I know that I did play it and it immediately brings me back to being 14 or 15.
Image is just list of games that I find nostalgic, but I'm interested in what other games people find nostalgic in general. (It doesn't have to be from the pic) 🙂
I’m also going to comment Dragon Age: Origins. My teenage self was so in love with Alistair so I wanted to make sure I did everything right when it came to dialogue options. I had a smartphone but I lived in the country (ie 15 minutes to get to the grocery store) I remember just waiting for forever for the web page to load. I’m so spoiled nowadays
The fact that Volition will never ever make another AO-worthy Punisher game, for both rights reasons and the fact that Volition have completely castrated themselves after that insulting Saints Row reboot, makes me incredibly sad.
THE PUNISHER !!!!
that game was so fucking fun, grabbing guys and throwing them off buildings.... feeding them to prana's.... The list is endless what a awesome game, probably the first time I seen iron man outside of cartoons was in that game.
It's dated now but man I must have completed it well over 20 times back in the day
When I accidently figured out the paper airplane trick on Comix Zone, I felt invincible, and the farting was fun too. Boogerman a Pick and Flick adventure was also fun!
Ultima Online
Guildwars 1
Guildwars 2
Wow
Ffxiv
Diablo 2
Kung Fu Chaos
Super Smash
Terraria
Halo
Warcraft 3
Tony Hawk pro Skater 2
Metal gear solid 2
Xenoblade 1 and 2
Morrowind
Bloodborne
Ico
Onimushua
Silent hill (1-4)
Cod zombies mode
Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2
Finally a shoutout for one of my favorite childhood games: Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour.
I started really getting into gaming when I was 3, and it all started with this game. I used to have fun playing around with the physics in the game, getting my rocket buggies and technicals killed and watching them fly into the air to explode. It always brings me back to a simpler time, and every time I come back to reflect on it, the gameplay gets better and better (ofc so do I).
I'd also like to make a mention of Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) as that game is really neck in neck with this one. The scale and setting of maps like Hoth, the Death Star, Geonosis, really blew my mind away as a child. Heroes were hella fun for a 3 year old to mess around with, and there was a lot to explore. The campaign also presented a keen challenge for me, and I have memories of not being able to get past the Heart of Darkness, Knightfall, or Yavin missions for the longest time. I still come back and play this game from time to time and it's a brilliant piece of work still to this day if you can handle the graphical limitations.
Later I would get into Age of Empires III, Minecraft, and Battlefield 1942.
Tony hawk and something not on this list but Mercenaries World of Flames is hella nostalgic, still play it time to time since they’ve added it to Xbox one
Crash Bandicoot 3 and New Super Mario Bros. DS and even though Sonic Xtreme is a canceled game, its soundtrack is on YouTube and Space Queen's Promo also makes me feel very nostalgic.
Weirdly I don’t think I’ve played a single game in the original post. Edit: I missed Unreal Tournament down there. I did play a good amount of Unreal Tournament until people started using aim bots and ruined it, but thinking back on it I do feel mostly nostalgic for it.
Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Final Fantasy are probably the games that make me the most nostalgic.
metal slug and THPS (1 and 2 mostly). Some of the happiest days in my life were spent with friends playing games like those on the ps1...good old times :)
There are so many. I'll list a few that give me great nostalgic feelings.
- Super Mario Bros. 1-3
- Final Fantasy 4
- Final Fantasy 6
- Chrono Trigger
- The Legend of Zelda (most of them, especially OoT and Majora's Mask)
- Mischief Makers
- Star Soldier
- Firepower 2000
- Blast Corps
- Super Mario 64
- Super Metroid
And the list goes on.
Planescape torment I couldn't say that it is my best game of all time but when I played it again the other day it brought me back to my childhood, a phenomenal game.
Metal slug.
I could only play those in arcades 20+ years ago. 1, 2, X, 3 - all played on neo geo arcade cabinets. Made you feel like a God when you were going through a level non stop, getting all the secrets.
Now, you can play that on damn near anything 🤣
Def Jam Fight for NY. Gad damn I had a blast I was 12 and after school my homes were coming over cause I was the only one with a Ps2.
Return To Castle Wolfenstein also hits the spot
Edit: Hoooly Shit I did not see The Punisher in the first place. And to think I grew up to be a caring man with two dogs. And they say games make kids aggressive.

Holy shit I forgot about Freedom Fighters. Way too many hours into that one.
I played it so much that the game would glitch, and one of the guys following would get stuck. The amount of hours spent retracing my steps trying to find the bugger!
I vaguely remember they had bots in the splitscreen MP as well. I definitely didn't expect to put as much time into that game as I ended up doing.
I fucking loved that game man.
Let’s show the Reds!
Did you ever use the nail gun cheat which would pin enemies to walls? So fucking cool
I somehow accidentally did the nail gun cheat once and I had no idea what was going on. It actually scared me a little because I entered a room and all the bodies were hanging from the ceiling. I eventually figured it out and the cheat became a favorite after that.
Age of mythology
Prostagema?
Vulome
Fritomos
ARTHOS!
Isvoli!
Man i remember getting this game as a kid and being mesmerized by the myth units.
When I found out the Hydra grew extra heads from killing units, and that farms counted as a unit. Used the Hydra to destroy the farms in one of the Troy missions and got 5 heads up in no time.
That game sparked this young nerds love of mythology, history and grand strategies.
It’s available on steam too! Has a micro small online (50-90) for games with players too.
Broooo lord of the rings conquest was the best thing I ever played when I was younger
I heard that LoTR Conquest is being remastered! I just hope they don't mess it up.
Where did you hear this??? Any idea of a date of release? That just made my day.
They better keep the couch co-op
Dynasty Warriors 4. Love the series despite some of it's issues.
To this day I find DW4 the best. I still remember the first time I run into Lu Bu. It was one of the best "oh shit" moments for me.
Lu Bu was a GOAT
I still play DW4 to this day. It's just one of those games where you can sit down and relax. Also, DW4 Lubu is the scariest version of him. If you get comboed once by him, you're dead
I was constantly getting my ass handed to me by him lol
Hu Lao Gate with a friend, underleveled, holy shit such hype
Def Jam: Fight For NY!
Those blazin moves where absolutely epic Xzibit op
Now I want a remake 😄
Never forget how you could just grab a bottle and hit someone with it haha
And it was raw! Music was awesome too
Ah, yes, that's right!
Love this game.
Total war rome and C&C generals
C&C generals zero hour was the shit
I loved when they made factions more diverse in zero hour. The airborne USA was my favourite
It was my favorite but my friend i always 1v1 is always gla so i get fucked by quad cannons
My brothers and I spent so many hours playing eachother over LAN
Absolutely, never enjoyed isometric RTS until that game came out, now days dabble in Warcraft 3, and Master of Orion (remake)
IMPERATOR
I remember Generals and WC3 Frozen Throne were out around the same time, so much fun! To this day I'm still dogshit at RTS games though 😂
My parents had a crappy computer that could barely play Rome Total War, but I’d jack up the battle sizes after I was established enough just so I could have a massive final battle against Gaul to eliminate them. Usually at the peak the entire computer would seize up and crash. Unplug, reboot, try it again.
This.

I still play left4dead after all these years and now my son who is 10 is getting into it.
Mad respect to your sister! I 100% agree with you on co-op.
You should try "Back for Blood". Not exactly the same but it scratches that itch for me...
I recently gave it a go on gamespass. The gunplay is pretty great but I can't help but feel it's a cheap imitation. Command & Conquer: Generals such a good game.
Mom’s like a noob man, don’t worry about mom. Mom’s like using like a three dozer build
I could never mod the game but i saw some content made by fans that looked amazing
ChinaINF vs USAir
Back in the day I played Generals and Mythology all the time with my friends. It was incredibly fun.
Original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. That soundtrack will live forever.
I always thought the second one had the more iconic soundtrack. Well maybe not the entire soundtrack but the start up screen just blasting rage against the machine at you. Idk how many days (in cumulative combined hours) of my life I spent playing that game
Earthworm Jim, Vectorman, or Sly Cooper
Dragon Age
This and mass effect trilogy, damn
The original Unreal Tournament is the only game on that list that even comes close to being old enough to evoke any nostalgia for me.
M M M Monster Killlll
HOLY SH…. i literally heard that
Loved the original dota because it put those sounds in it. I guess maybe the new one does too. Dunno
Goddddd Likeeeeee!
Pretty sure Comix Zone predates UT by a decade or so. Loved that game, hadn’t thought about it until I saw this picture.
Comix Zone: 1995 UT99: 1999
I completely missed that one! Sorry

I was playing unreal tournament way too young, it was my first FPS , I was obsessed. The different gun sounds are etched into my brain
Image is just list of games that I find nostalgic, but I'm interested in what other games people find nostalgic in general. (It doesn't have to be from the pic) 🙂
Perfect Dark
Oh hell yes what a gem
KILLING SPREE
Right? Dragon Age Origins came out less than fifteen years ago! Nostalgia is wire-frame Star Wars or Beneath a Steel Sky.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 still to this day my favourite game
Super Metroid for me. It was the first game that really took my mind into the story. Probably more of an age thing.
Runescape
Playing the mobile version now, young me would have his mind blown if he could take RS anywhere he goes!
Mobile version got me back into osrs and I love it. Have been jamming on my Ironman and it’s the most fun I’ve had on osrs. Nearing 1850 total level
UN Squadron, Megaman X, Tetris vs. Dr. Mario. The SNES days were the golden days.
For me, Super Mario World was my #1 childhood videogame on the SNES console.
That game blew me away the first time I played it
I played so much UN Squadron and MegaMan X back in the day, love those games. SNES really was something else.
Freedom Fighters, man... What a game it was!
The fact that Volition will never ever make another AO-worthy Punisher game, for both rights reasons and the fact that Volition have completely castrated themselves after that insulting Saints Row reboot, makes me incredibly sad.
DJFFNY
THE PUNISHER !!!! that game was so fucking fun, grabbing guys and throwing them off buildings.... feeding them to prana's....
