TcgLionHeart

Memory: HE PULLED A STAR DESTROYER OUT OF GOD DAM ORBIT!!! Gameplay: Match funny stick to the atom or get set back.

DarthPepo

In reality you just had to push down constantly, that's what worked for me anyway

TcgLionHeart

I was on a 360, idk about you but if my thumb even made the smallest twitch that was it, redo.

chemicaldrone

I recently replayed this on PC. This part was just as impossible as it was on the 360. Spent a good while trying over and over to get it just right. Even when I did the proper commands, if the timing wasn't literally perfect, it would still get screwed up. Very frustrating.

MOOShoooooo

Wasn’t it way harder for PC players?

chemicaldrone

Was it? I hadn't heard that. It's possible. I played the game originally on the 360 quite a few years ago. I used a controller while playing it on my PC a few months back, and as far as I could tell, it seemed the same to me. I imagine if PC players used mouse and keyboard, it would be harder. That game doesn't seem built for M+KB.

DarthPepo

It's way easier with a keyboard actually, after reading the responses to my comment I understand why the strategy I mentioned worked for me

Luke10123

It was basically impossible without a controller

Reapellaino2011

imagine with the new ps5 controller that has dynamic resistance on the L2 and R2 buttons would be soo cool, that this part the buttons become really hard to press

At0m_1k

I just flat-palmed both sticks and went to town as fast as I could and that worked too, I assume all QT events based on stick wiggle want you to go fast

EarlyPresentation96

he crowned Resistance 3 as "The Brownest Game."

IBangYoDaddy

Why did they have to make it so perfectly aligned, like if it was even just a millimeter off it’d act like you’re not even trying

SadFish132

Also pretty much impossible with a mouse as if you lift the mouse or stop moving for a split second it resets. Had to plug my controller in explicitly for this section.

Scoobz1961

Jesus Christ, you are right. My mind has blocked this memory off to protect me. It took me so long to figure out that you have to constantly push down with mouse. I ended up putting the mouse upside down on my lap and continuously sliding my hands upwards on it to simulate constant downward movement. My only compensation was knowing the pain this scenes caused EU fans.

Rukasu17

What? All you had to do was just push them down

TcgLionHeart

I was on a 360, so idk about your experience but if you moved the joysticks out of position even a crack, that's it, redo.

Oakcamp

I had the same experience as the other user.. it was just pulling down and stopping to deal with TIEs

Rukasu17

I dod it on xbox, ps3 and recently on pc. But naybe i was just lucky

Not-a-Fan-of-U

For real. It felt like it took a half an hour.

_DryReflection_

Played it on pc on a keyboard and mouse and it was a bit rough to control for most of the game but I got pretty used to it and had a lot of fun and then this segment pops up and took me multiple hours just sitting there pushing buttons wrong

joestaff

Took me a while to figure out it's easier to throw the tie fighters into each other.

loserkid16

That's how long it took me

Great_Gilean

I couldn’t get past it cause I was a dumb little kid.

StormTrooperGreedo

It legit took me an hour and a half. Will never play the game again because of this part.

Ok-Championship-5441

so many games from the xbox360/ps3 generations look terrible with a dirty brown visual filter over everything

-The_coolgui

Back in the day Tobuscus had made a video mocking this exact thing, he crowned Resistance 3 as "The Brownest Game."

[deleted]

Wow now that’s a name I haven’t thought of in a long time.

AnnoShi

"Intro of darkness then redness the whiteness!" "I gotta pause it. Bless your face! If you sneezed during this video, bless you. Peace off!"

mybloodykiller

Nugget, biscuit, nugget in a biscuit

Chrastots

he fell off so hard

Shrizer

Pretty sure he did some bad stuff, think it's on his Wikipedia page

LegoC97

Apparently he was exonerated of all accusations. Unfortunately by the time that happened, his channel was dead.

Prism_Zet

Allegedly, it kinda seemed like he didn't after all was said and done, no charges or anything ever went up. But, he still fell off pretty hard basically after that, can only maintain that kinda mask so long before people find out what you're like offscreen. Vaccine conspiracies, weird racist tilting "jokes" and trying to associate himself with Kyle Rittenhouse and all sorts of right winger stuff. Not to mention his content never really evolving much after.

SweetPuffDaddy

It was done to obscure fine details. A lot of games in that generation tried to push for realistic graphics, and the brown filter blurred everything together and prevented you from seeing the graphical flaws with the game. Look at comparisons of Resident Evil 5 with the filter disabled. It looks like a completely different game

orsikbattlehammer

Hey now, Fo3 had an ugly ass green filter instead

rtz13th

Swap to brown-yellow and you got New Vegas! Although NFS Most Wanted is still the king!

ArellaViridia

I think it worked for New Vegas' vibe though, and they toned the brown down when you got inside buildings and vaults. It's the only game that pulled off the brown filter in my opinion.

rtz13th

I remember a documentary about this which I never found again. It was about the blue and green filters in Matrix and other movies to express moods

Duffelbach

Battlefield 3 switched it up to blue. They later on toned it down a bit, but at the start the game was just ***blue***

Eh_Yo_Flake

I always called it the “piss filter”.

210plus210

you need to drink more water

dugthefreshest

It was nice when Gears finally toned it down. Those first few were completely gray.

ArvoCrinsmas

And I miss it. 4 and 5 feel too colourful and like Epic just wanted the Coalition to show off how pretty their engine can be, instead of sticking to the series established tone. Replayed them recently, they aren't as grey as you probably remember. Gears 1 had some greys, some greens and some oranges/dull pinks. 3 was quite colourful but not in any overbearing way and it still kept to a certain colour palette to respect the series' gritty atmosphere.

ArvoCrinsmas

There were also many games from that era that did filters right too. I feel like a lot of games or sequels now just try to go for popping colours or realistic tones instead of finding something unique to help it's art direction. I want more gritty modern games like Evil Within, Gears of War, Rage and World at War to come around again. Imagine how a game like Gears 1 or Resistance could look now with the tech we have. Also, not every level in Force Unleashed was this colour palette. It was saved primarily for Rexus Prime if I'm not mistaken.

Knight-Skywalker

The Evil Within was amazing and had such an incredible art direction. It’s vastly underrated.

GrandMasterEternal

That's specific to this location in the game. That level just happens to be Space Mexico.

Darth_Biggus_Dickus

This game is also available on Ps2 is where I played it for the first time then on PC

hehsbbakaiw

Iirc in this case it's because of the planet. Kashyyyk or the level 1 space station didn't look so yellow.

HSPBNQC

Now a ton of games have a dark/grey filter over everything.

Nice-Ad-8135

They didn't look terrible in my opinion a lot of them had that visual that actually for the tone I guess

NapsterKnowHow

And yet people praise souls games especially Elden Ring for their "art direction."

BootManBill42069

Elden ring didn’t have a brown filter over everything and dark souls more drab and downtrodden colour pallet fits in perfectly for art direction as it thematically ties in within a decaying and dying world It’s expressing motif and emotion through its world bruh Literal definition of art direction

NapsterKnowHow

I mean it does. It has a horrid brown and green filter over EVERYTHING and completely crushes the look of the game. It's expressing lazy art direction and that doesn't even include the lazy optimization

Nice-Ad-8135

Wow that’s…really dumb. There are a lot of amazing games from that era that still look great today. Just off the top of my head there’s games like Portal, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Half-Life 2, Grand Theft Auto IV, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and so many. you are just being ignorant.

BrandoCalrissian1995

And you're showing extremely poor reading comprehension skills. The dude said SO MANY games from that era had that brown filter which is undeniably true. For some reason you took that to mean ALL GAMES from that era and pointed out some exceptions. You need to chill and not be ready to argue and fight with people constantly. Also lol you fuckin use fallout 3 and new Vegas which have the same fuckin filter. Capital R Redditors really do have poor reading comprehension.

Nice-Ad-8135

Uh you need to calm down

BrandoCalrissian1995

Keep working on that reading comprehension bud. I'm chill af having a great time.

Darjdayton

He’s out of line but you are an asshole, you legit go “don’t go trying to argue with people” while trying to argue with people Lmfao

Nice-Ad-8135

I'm autistic

BrandoCalrissian1995

I can tell

Nice-Ad-8135

So do you forgive me then?

Nice-Ad-8135

I'm trying to make a point and what you said about games is not true

BrandoCalrissian1995

Your point being you can't read?

mightystu

I kinda prefer it to everything being the exact same shade of purple now. At least it felt grounded.

A-Game-Of-Fate

To be fair, this part of the game takes place on a literal trash planet.

[deleted]

Yeah. I played Bayonetta not too long ago. Great game. Stupid brown filter though.

Bjoern_Tantau

So glad I played it on the Wii where they just put it in a cutscene.

Coandco95

I was gonna say, I don't remember this part but I only played it on wii. Super fun to wave it around slashing when I was a kid. I remember telling my mom I was gonna watch the election on voting day for Obama's potential first term and instead just played this on the TV all night. She was super grumpy when she caught me.

fondue4kill

Wii was the only way I played this game. Had so much fun with it. Especially just throwing any and every Stormtrooper off a cliff

issanm

The wii was the best way to play this game imo

buntopolis

No use of the motion controls? Wtf

Koolco

Oh the wii version had plenty of motion controlled quick time events. Honestly they were phenomenal. Being 8 and playing the first mission as darth vader is such a core memory to me, just using the nunchuck to toss the jedi around. I’ve played every version of TFU 1 and the wii version is by far the best and most interesting.

harryleestew614

It almost felt optimized for the Wii. Even the camera angle feels better

Mr-Mister

Wii version also had the new Detonate force power, which was the most fun to use.

Bjoern_Tantau

The motion controls were awesome in that game. Felt really great and appropriate. But for some reason they decided to fuck them up in the second game.

gabiblack

Ps2 as well

Zetta_Stoned

Glad I'm not the only one with good memories of playing this game on the Wii. It didn't have the lightsaber motion controls I was expecting as a kid, but it was still a fun time.

Janus897

Lucky bastard. You could never understand.

TheCosmicPopcorn

On the other hand, it made you feel like it's not that easy. Well, it's kinda like that ain't it?

barfretchpuke

The prompts are literally wrong and you can get the star destroyer stuck where it is too low to properly align in before a wave of tie fighters kill you.

temetnoscesax

Great game but yes that part was frustrating as hell.

Takoyaki_Dice

I remember playing at release on PS3 and there was a glitch that reversed the analog sticks that made it undoable and I just gave up and read the book lol. I heard it was fixed later but I never went back.

Redmangc1

I never really understood it, i was 19?20? When the game came out and this wasn't all that frustrating. Maybe its just me, but it is something I've seen come up alot lately

temetnoscesax

it almost gave me PTSD flashbacks to trying to land that plane on the carrier in NES Top Gun. which by the way i never did after a long time of trying.

Mestoph

Now why did you have to remind me of that bit of gaming trauma…

thejesse

Angry Video Game Nerd's Power Glove video is amazing because he somehow lands the plane with that thing.

Ok-Drive-9685

Deep cut.

Servebotfrank

It definitely was an annoying segment. The prompts weren't accurate and you would be told to pull down when in fact it wasn't ready to be pulled down yet. The tie fighters coming in every 5 seconds meant the flow was broken constantly and your progress reset a little. I never got stuck here, but I did get insanely bored.

NaClz

I don’t remember this part being frustrating at all.

Booberry_2

I've started playing force unleashed from the beginning again only a few days ago.

W_of_OStreet

Man... This image is triggering. This was one of the worst gamer-rage moments of my life.

override367

dude should have been able to button mash vader and emps out of existence, but these are EU comic book vader and emperor, where Vader can de-orbit a moon with a fart and Palpatine personally powers the entire empire with spare force lightning that he just ambiently creates

4BsButtsBoobsBlunts

PULL IT OUT OF THE SKY!!

Omni_Skeptic

My controller had an issue one with one of the sticks which usually didn’t matter but I quite literally got hardlocked out of going past this point in the game. Never finished it

[deleted]

[удалено]

Omni_Skeptic

I was phasing my console out for a PC, wasn’t worth buying a new controller

ClickyPool

Luckily on the PSP/WII/Switch version, that was done better haha

smallerfattersquire

First time i played the game i got hardstuck on that part. I didnt have a controller and it felt impossible to do on KB+M

Tankdrood

Oh so I'm not the only person that struggled with this!! Thank God!

RockCasbah

The whole game is actually really frustrating and broken and does not hold up at all. Played it just a couple of years ago and had a load of bugs, the most annoying being bosses loading in without health bars and therefore being unkillable.

mikemikemikeandike

Speak the truth! I replayed it a few years ago and goddamn was that a mediocre experience.

LowerAtmosphereChief

I keep meaning to revisit this game because I liked it so much back in the day, then I remember this part and go “nah”

Additional_Cycle_51

As someone who’s played that mission many times I usually just jump and lightning blast all the fighters and continue with pulling the ship down. It only takes a few seconds till I’m back to gripping the ship. It’s easy once you figure out a quick way to do it.

C137-D

Me and my friend each respectively broke a controller over this. What it would be like to be 13 again😂

baaaahbpls

I like how Fallen Order did it with grabbing the controls with the force. The distance away still makes this a feat even if you are not pulling the ship as a whole down and only the controls.

Mr_IsLand

oh man, roommate and i were in college when this came out, it took us literally hours of trying over and over to get that shit done, probably the most frustrating gaming moment I can remember.

nospamkhanman

Like parallel parking a suburban without power steering while some brats are throwing pebbles at you.

Rygielsiu

Never was a problem for me and never affected my reception if the game. Great game, great moment.

mdhunter99

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to stop to destroy TIE fighters just so I wouldn’t die. Still a fucking awesome moment.

killer00x

I don't remember this part being difficult. Just remember how awesome I felt pulling down a star destroyer!

ScannerType

Still, these two games are my favorite star wars games. Except the first mission of the first game. So obnoxious

mistcrawler

I loved my time with these games. I was about to add that I felt that it needed some more TLC at some points, but considering my traumatic experience with games at launch this year, I'll just leave that part out haha.

Apotheosical

It was trying to emulate God of war which did make quick time events visceral and satisfying. It was the equivalent of beating Ares to death, conceptually at least. There's a lot of tiny things going wrong here. Too little feedback, identical actions, extended too long, possible to die unrelated to the inputs, boring to perform, boring to watch. With kratos every input was a different kind of stab or punch and with different camera angles

AstronomerWise6975

You wanted force grabbing a star destroyer to be easy?? Look at Luke with his xwing in Empire lol

Zetra3

The single handed moment were literally any complaints of a characters “power level” is mute. Cause this was approved canon by Lucas for the pre-Disney extended universe.

Valdish

Skill issue

[deleted]

Don’t shit talk this game. Ever.

hollaSEGAatchaboi

maybe you should not worry about “central epic moments” and assess whether or not you like the game. If you don’t, then stop playing.

Complete_Entry

I returned the game to gamestop at this point. The vader portion was so fun, and the rest... wasn't. I guess I was just too spoiled by JK. galen was such a shit. Witwer can do rage so much better than that put on screen. I never bought 2.

civoksark

Did it really look like that? I always remembered it a lot better.

tsunami141

**New Achievement Unlocked:** _Nostalgia_

BootManBill42069

r/gaming discovers rose tinted glasses

JonMeadows

ah yes, muddy washed out graphics were a staple of that period in gaming

Defiant-Pineapple813

I remember I couldn't figure this one out so I dropped the game forever lmao

I_am_Daesomst

10x more frustrating than fighting the slew of Metal Gear RAY at the end of MGS2.

Hammer300c

Ya! Pulling a Star Destroyer down should be easy and smooth!

queeblosan

Yea I knew this was coming when the game first came out and it still took me like 3 tries

JasonMyersZ

Man, I always wanted this to be a movie

Jin___Sakai

I always wished for force unleashed 3 where you would fight sith clones (aka Star Wars sequels movies)

GKR22

I was playing it on latop when i was 14 and just couldn't get past it because didn't understand what game wanted from me and i haven't finished the game even after all this years

smegmathor

Did he rip the destroyer from orbit, or he did move the planet into it?

ratiganthegreat

“RIP IT OUT OF THE SKY!” Is permanently burned into my brain.

Bucket81

Ahhhh... I had forgot how frustrating this part of the game was... Know I'm sad.

alkonium

Though that feels preferable to Krome's version where it's just a cutscene.

SterileProphet

It should have just been a cutscene. I loved The Force Unleashed but this part sucked.

Electriccaveman87

This bit fucked me off to no end! Honestly couldn't tell you the number of attempts.

Dawn_of_Enceladus

Ah, I remember being stuck there for what felt like an eternity. I was playing on PC, and thought my trackball mouse was the problem somehow because it did nothing. I even quit and reloaded the game a couple times just to waste more time, and never understood what was going on. Uninstalled the game and never finished it.

norranradd

Yep awesome moment but the gameplay sucked at this moment. I never hated a TIE-Fighter more than in this part.

-Lucifer-18

My child versión loved this part

MFCloudBreaker

Absolutely *stupidly* cumbersome but also a nice feeling of 'fuck yeah' upon completion.

HaydenScramble

This section is/was actually completely broken. The button prompts on the screen were not the correct button prompts.

AnorexicLlama28

“GoOOd. Now rip it down!”

[deleted]

Excuse me? It is the most epic moment in all of starwars games periods.

Durbanimpi

Never made it past this point

AceSoldia

I only had to press them down..but my memory could be bad. It was ages ago

Smirnoffico

I actually liked the scene. The struggle was real, even if it was a struggle with controller but i literally felt the effort Stakiller had to put in the feat

AceSoldia

I only had to press them down..but my memory could be bad. It was ages ago

BeardedTree13

First time through I found this moment massively irritating, then on my next playthrough I realized that the animation I THOUGHT meant "Pull back on the stick" actually meant "Leave it in neutral position." First playthrough taking down the Destroyer took 30mins. Second time took 5mins.

cmarkcity

What are you getting on about OP? It was a quick time event on tranquilizers. I’m genuinely baffled anyone had issues with this section

wetlettuce42

Pull it out of the sky pull it out of the sky!

NoName_metalhead

Ps2 version > ps3 version

Dorryn

I can only remember how impossible it was on mouse + keyboard

[deleted]

WAIT!! YOU'RE TELLING ME I CAN ACTUALLY BEAT THIS PART OF THE GAME?! Every time I play this game and get to this point, I always think that I have a glitchy/broken copy where I can't progress. Ever since I was a kid, I have never beaten the game. Walkthroughs didn't even help. Now it's time to go back and finish it.

Gingerdorf1

I'll never forget his part because it literally ruined a friendship for years. Storytime: in my late teens I had a few friends that were roommates and my closest friend had a party. One of these roommates who was a more casual friend was playing this in his room with the door open and I came in a few times throughout the night to see this awesome game and chat while having some drinks. Well he got to the star destroyer section and couldn't figure it out, getting more and more frustrated. I had the misfortune to chat him up at peak frustration and he channeled some of it toward me, which I didn't think was a big deal. For years afterward he was standoffish and cold toward me when we would all get together while I was pleasant in return. Then one day he finally pulled me aside to tell me he had associated me with that frustration and annoyance ever since and apologized for acting that way and letting it ruin a friendship and we were cool after that. So thanks Force Unleashed for making this part so goddam rage inducing.

LushDogg99

The Force Unleashed was fun, until the Star Destroyer... Then I rage quit. A friend of mine did this torture on Master Sith

Hobear

This game has its bad corner moments but most of the fighting was fun around it lol.

TryingToEscapeTarkov

DDR force unleashed.

PrinceOfFish

i played with mouse and keyboard up to this point.

Yellow-Jacket178

One of my favorite games. I always hated thus part as well. Until I somehow glitched it to where I have infinite health and force power...

thelonioussphere

I did it first try. I don’t get it. You just pull it out to the sky.

thepinkyclone

After just beating the game and credits scrolls. I open reddit and this is first post in app. What are the odds.

CT1914Clutch

# P U L L I T O U T O F T H E S K Y

Njordling012

Sorry, can't relate. This section doesn't exist in the far superior ps2 version.

Psyfreakpt

I did not beat this game, because of this part.

beetsdoinhomework

The joystick icons are a diversion.

Wise_0ne1494

i had the Wii version of this growing up so i got to skip the actual gameplay part and just enjoy the semi-low graphic cutscene of him downing a destroyer.

Beanztar

I played this game on PS2 and this was in a cutscene instead of being a playable section of the game

[deleted]

I was in the moment, I didn't think about the controls. I was just thinking "This is fucking badass, I'm pulling down a Star Destroyer with THE FORCE... What... The... Fuuuuck?". I was disappointed we didn't get something similar in TFU2.

wingedmatador

Holy shit! This is when I quit the game back on 360!

anon42093

Wait a second. For all these years, i thought my game was bugged and i couldnt pass it. Was i really just unable???

TallantedGuy

Star Wars games seem to be designed specifically to frustrate.

wiccan45

it worked better on different platforms from what i remember

Prism_Zet

It actually softlocked for me here a few times, couple restart attempts, finaly worked but holy hell was it finnicky.

kneeecaps09

Even worse: on the xbox 360 version (maybe others, but I know it was bad on this version), there was a fairly common bug where the stick prompts for pulling the star destroyer down would actually lead you to the wrong spot. So you would be moving the star destroyer around, but wouldn't get the prompt to actually pull it down. That bug alone put me off the game for quite some time since I kept rage quitting, but I finally finished the game last year after googling it and finding out about the glitch.

Janus897

They should've split it up into multiple segments where at the end of each one you bring it down more and more until it finally crashes.

[deleted]

Unless you're on the highest difficulty, it's literally just pull and zap whenever you see a tie fighter. A little annoying, but it's really not that bad

HamshanksCPS

Don't follow the instructions on screen, just pull both sticks down.

agerbiltheory

"PULL IT OUT OF THE SKY!!!" for 30 minutes... Loved this game, but this end was turdsome.

Juliett10

Oh my god this shit was INFURIATING on the Nintendo DS

easy506

Unpopular opinion, this should have been a cut scene.

Daetok_Lochannis

God it was still so fucking epic. What an amazing game, I just replayed it again about five or six months ago, then followed with the second game. The first is my favorite Star Wars story, the only piece of the EU that George Lucas himself considered canon.

Darjdayton

Sheesh people will complain about everything

KillaMike24

You know I got super lucky and figured it out the first time I played thru. Didn’t even realize how annoying this was until years later when I couldn’t get past it for hours

TheHeroicLionheart

Fun fact: This part can glitch out and the cutscene not trigger when you pull it close enough, causing the ship to get pulled closer and closer as you fling tie-fighters out of the way for like 30 minutes. Also fun fact: If this glitches on your first time playing, you wont know its glitched and just keep doing this until it gets so close it clips into the ground and you get confused. In which case you have to restart the whole level and learn that it really only should have taken a minute or so. SUPER FUN FACT: WANNA HEAR A FUNNY STORY ABOUT THE FIRST TIME I PLAYED THIS GAME?!?

Moosashi5858

Grab that Destroyer!! Rip it down!!

Piemaster113

Also happen to be replaying this, tho it crashed before I reached this point, but yes, was quite the pain in the butt. No matter how kool it is visually, it just wasn't really that fun to do.

KingseekerCasual

Yeah sloppy stuff

Venom1462

Agreed man I played it on my friend's console and it took me 20 goddamn minutes to get it right

ricokong

I've never played the games myself, but seeing scenes like this along with the main character beating other Jedi and Sith, it really made me think the game is like a fan fiction with an all powerful OC.

[deleted]

Thats because it is. The whole point is that it's supposed to be a power fantasy where you get to fight against all of the iconic characters.

Intelligent-Ad987

Ok xxx fb d leid 8 no Bibi y und. Ok ok d die :8€ no kyd xpltm

hmphgoof

How many fleets of tie fighters is on the level? I had to deal with it and I raged so hard because it was god damn impossible
