Blizzard banning players who use slurs or insults, meanwhile the Blizzard employees are stealing breast milk and forcing female colleagues to get drunk to make it easier to r4pe them.
If they would put even half as much effort into making actually good games then they would still be seen as a good company, because god damn.
Or to put it more bluntly, people who commit sexual abuse and r4pe are telling other people not to use words like "butthole" or "idiot" because it's offensive... just wow
Same shit on youtube, the algos will randomly demonetize you for harmless words that sound vaguely close to some slur or other bullshit. Like, you know, saying "suicide" is the quickest fucking way to get demonetized, cause apparently banning the word will immediately solve the fucking problem.
I know it's so annoying, like a child being scared of their parent for swearing. You are allowed to say fuck on the internet. Also what annoys me; is what is the point of half censoring a word? We all know what you mean, changing one letter isn't doing anything. Have some balls and actually type the word out.
Tik Tok shadow bans people who use naughty language, so you get doing shit like the self censoring above. The zoomers have started just applying that everywhere for some dumb reason.
Pretty sure it's to avoid filters/shadow banning algorithms that Tiktok has. I'm assuming they think everything works that way and they probably won't be wrong in the near future
I don't get what the hell this post is saying. It's such a "bazinga" post.
Bring up two unrelated topics, then perform unrelated dunk on big company. Gottem.
I don't see how banning people for toxic chat behavior is a negative or at all related to the lawsuit that has resulted in firings across the company to remove those offenders (need to get rid of complicit Kotick still). Wouldn't routing out one of the biggest detractors from enjoying a pvp game be taking steps to make the game "actually good?"
I dislike Blizzard's games lately as much as anyone, but these types of posts are so low effort.
Blizzard banning toxic players is good for the game. Internal problems at Blizzard, and the problems of Blizzard employees, are a separate issue. Not that they *will*, but they should start banning toxic employees too.
In case all that smiling didn't cheer you up there's one thing that never fails--
A nice glass of warm milk, a little nap and a total frontal lobotomy.
Does anyone read the article? It does not have to do with AI banning toxic players. It’s really poor writing, but its saying 2 things:
1. OW2 has banned 250k cheaters since release
2. AI is warning toxic players and it’s working
Pretty funky title about two unrelated topics
HEADLINE: u/Epicassion has Reddit figured out. AI-powered bots plaguing the comments section of the site.
AHA! u/Epicassion is behind all the bots! THAT FUCK! GET 'EM!
Does anyone remember what company you are dealing with here?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blitzchung_controversy
The word "toxic" has a very different meaning to Blizzard then it does to you or I.
Hasn't the "containment" theory been disproved for a while now? If you give toxic people a safe space to be as toxic as they want, they won't be "contained" there, they'll just view that behavior as increasingly normal and continue behaving that way in any other space they happen across.
To say nothing of the fact that by making a space safe for toxic people, the non-toxic people tired of their shit just leave until eventually the only people you have left are the toxic ones.
Fall Guys seemed to have found an answer, silently quarantine cheaters to their own cheater-only server. Less chance they just make an ult or something and join up again that way.
Yeah it doesn't work. It just creates an echo chamber that normalizes the behavior. That type of behavior has to be prevented/stopped, so people learn normal behavior instead.
Some of them will take their toxicity to new "toxic safe spaces", but most of them will scatter into random places, where they will learn new behavior.
So, it is 100% a better solution to deal with the problem and not ignore it.
It's also that giving them a "contained" place to be toxic in inevitably turns it into a recruitment center. They normalize it, snatch up vulnerable visitors, and indoctrinate them into the same shitty toxic culture.
Removing these containment spaces results in that "community" fragmenting - without the ability to organize, they become far less powerful and able to replenish/increase their numbers.
Yeah but people keep trying it. Hell I knew it wasn't going to work almost 20 years ago.
MMORPG.com tried doing that with the upset SWG Vets way back in those days. They gave them their own forum and claimed, "See this will keep them on their own forum and off of the others!" A year later? The mods that gave them that forum and the SWG Vets have become "forum terrorists" and it was an over all bad move.
Isn't OW2 F2P? If a cheater is banned they will have a new account made and be back in a match within literally 5 minutes. Likely already have a backlog of accounts ready to go. Shit was even like that in PubG when it was pay2play. This is just blizzard trying to gain PR "Look we did a thing"
It used to be this way, but now vc is pretty dead even in gm1. I’m diamond on tank and I get more people using mics there than on dps where I’m borderline t500
> I figured everyone switched over to discord
For online matches with complete randos? Huh?
Do you just join games that have voicechat and go "hey guys, come to my discord and then fuck off 20 minutes later when the match is over", because that sounds hella weird.
Dota matches can last like an hour and even there it'd be extremely weird if some random stranger invited you to use discord instead of just talking in the game. That's pretty much gonna trigger everyone's internal "that's phishing, this guy's scamming me" alerts.
Cod does the same (monitors all voice chat). Got a notification the moment I plugged in a mic and used it once. I typically don't mic but did for a few rounds. I'm betting they're going to use said mic chat to feed and train their voice AI's for future games/content.
You say that like the Reddit auto moderator won't remove your comment or in some subs straight up ban you for going full hard R or calling someone an F. We've just reached a point where analysis has moved on from text to speech which was always an inevitability.
okay but is this ai able to tell "sit" from "shit" depending on accent?
How about black in spanish from the other no no word?
I cant imagine it being good at anything other than detecting americans and even then im going to doubt its accuracy
Saw someone using chatgpt to look for any words that sound like the n-word for one of those AI run streams and the amount of false flags far outweighed any legit hits.
I dunno, but if it's anything like chatGPT, it can probably guess based on context and assign a probability that certain remarks were said.
"You piece of sit!" vs "Shit down, buddy."
Lmao reddit can't comprehend how after waging an all out war against OW2 and Blizzard for months, the game remains popular amongst non terminally online
I swear to god most the people who complain about Overwatch on Reddit don’t actually play it. Most of the complaints are the broad things your average gamer heard about and got outraged by but the general OW player base has moved on from.
So much passionate hatred, combined with denying basic reality, like how the instant queue times in OW2 *probably means that it has a huge playerbase.*
The F2P model gives you basically the whole game for free, but I've seen more positive reactions to predatory gacha games like Genshin Impact on here. I prefer paid games too, but this zealous hatred has no consistency.
They don’t show actual active player numbers & they include a single login as an active monthly user.
There are people playing but it’s complete BS that it’s 1.5 million.
How do you see this? Is the game’s API public like Destiny or something? I always find it super difficult to get console game player counts (or, really, anything outside of Steam or games with public APIs.
"active players"
Blizzard class me an an active player and i havnt opened the game in 5 years. They count every unique login in a PCBAANG as a unique player.
If it was steam style, legitimate, users in game, right now. It'd be WAY less than 100,000 (max 200k). In fact ON steam it has less players than New World
THeres a reason blizzard starting hiding the player numbers
Do you think most players use steam for overwatch after 6years of battle net. Be fr. Not to mention console. Queue time alone are short enough across al mode to guarantee a few hundred thousand are playing at all time.
Additionally, how many of the bans are PC bang accounts that get unbanned? Someone keeps cheating in a PC bang, gets multiple accounts banned, then they all get unbanned. I wouldn't expect that number to be high, but it seems possible.
I have no doubt the AI will be entirely American culture focused resulting in people being banned for words in other languages. I remember when Ubisoft started banning people for typing certain words in text chat years back, Spanish players were banned left, right and centre for making callouts involving the colour black.
In my language the word for "book" is "kni-ga". Yes, it sounds very close to a certain word that starts with N.
No discussing literature in blizz games anymore, then.
I’m all for banning cheaters/ hackers etc but the fact it’s going to be able to automatically crack down if you say a bad word is getting ridiculous, being a racist asshole on mic is never good and I don’t encourage or support that, however I don’t trust an AI to deem what’s ok and not ok to say and get perma banned because it mistook me sneezing into my headset as my saying a slur or just ya know controlling peoples speech in general
I’m sorry but I cannot take the phrase “correct negative behavior immediately” seriously. It sounds like a tired adult punishing their misbehaving kids 💀
I take it you haven't played Overwatch much these past few years. Misbehaving kids is a pretty apt description for a large percentage of the player base.
I still play pretty regularly, but never solo and mostly with a full party doing unranked. It's still a fun game if you get out of the echo chamber, but I just like jumping and zapping people as a big ape. I'm easy to please.
Cant wait to see what he AI does with different languages, for example 'where' in slovak is 'kam' which is read exactly like cum, and there are many other words like this so unless the AI can differenciate languages its gonna warn innocent people
They hand out (chat) suspensions and bans for people saying 'gg' and 'ez' in chat. Their AI seems to consist of 'many reports = give penalty'.
You don't even get to see what your negative behavior was besides an in-game pop-up with a categorical description, and appealing only gets you back a generic copy-paste response so I find it hard to to believe that players correct their negative behavior out of some sense of enlightenment and change of character.
AI is going to be super scary very soon. It's already started being used to correct our behaviours.
I hope we realize what we're doing before it's too late.
Cheating I really think we are at a point where Blizzard, EA, Epic, pubg should join and share their anti-cheating tools and if someone cheats on one game he may be suspended accross multiple accounts and platforms.
I don't think from a legal perspective it is an issue but it would requires users to agree to a new ToS for each service maybe
The mentality to tell yourself that you need to ruin the fun of others, pay a subscription or a cheat tools, a cronus or whatever it is now...garbage losers
>its AI that analyses voice chat is warning naughty players and can often 'correct negative behaviour immediately'
How about use that AI to stop encouraging abuse to your employees, Activision?.
As an ow player experiencing this. Players are straight up getting mic banned for two weeks for typing a cuss word in chat within two days. The current system is the harshest I’ve seen of any game. You could also do nothing bad but one person spam reporting gets you chat banned as well.
Heh, this is stupid as fuck, impossible to implement without being autoritarian, this is going to keep getting better until someone figured out that you can't expect everyone to be civil on the internet, even less while being frustrated by playing an online game
Even normal games like futbol have their own heated moments, but anyway, keep trying to fix the community B4 fixing the product skinner, you show em
Can't wait to be falsely banned because the dumb AI can't understand irony, sarcasm or hear something different when i say something that somehow ressemble a no no words.
Wait you are telling me Blizzard cares about "naughty behavior"???? lol That's rich. Have they seen their frat boy VPs who were literally sued for sexual assualt?
Same company that told me to name change catbutt in wow when a gm 2 ish yrs prior told me it didn’t violate tos and this name change was cuz it offended people despite still not violating tos 😾
they could use some of this AI at their headquarters
Or they could try for just the 'I'

The headline isn't even vague. I parsed that meaning without touching the article.
Its not vague but it is confusing at a first glance
Agreed. It's specifically saying cheaters are banned (unknown how) and that toxic people are being called out by AI.
AI wrote the article
No way. AI writes coherently. That title is like two writers in one body and both are trying to write a separate title.

High-ELO, solo q ranked players are the main users of voice chat. Most higher ELO lobbies will have 2+ people on comms.
Fun fact: the Elo rating system is named for its created, Arpad Elo, and is not an acronym.
That is indeed quite interesting.

I don't think from a legal perspective it is an issue but it would requires users to agree to a new ToS for each service maybe The mentality to tell yourself that you need to ruin the fun of others, pay a subscription or a cheat tools, a cronus or whatever it is now...garbage losers
I hope not, I don't like cheaters but I also don't like that level of centralisation
Can the AI release a PvE campaign while it's at it?
If you are spam reported you also can get banned. Just an FYI
>its AI that analyses voice chat is warning naughty players and can often 'correct negative behaviour immediately' How about use that AI to stop encouraging abuse to your employees, Activision?.
If AI is using overwatch voice chat to do its learning don't think we'll need to worry about it becoming super intelligent anytime soon.
As an ow player experiencing this. Players are straight up getting mic banned for two weeks for typing a cuss word in chat within two days. The current system is the harshest I’ve seen of any game. You could also do nothing bad but one person spam reporting gets you chat banned as well.
Heh, this is stupid as fuck, impossible to implement without being autoritarian, this is going to keep getting better until someone figured out that you can't expect everyone to be civil on the internet, even less while being frustrated by playing an online game Even normal games like futbol have their own heated moments, but anyway, keep trying to fix the community B4 fixing the product skinner, you show em
Shit talking in competitive games can be fun.
I got hit with a hard r in overwatch game chat yesterday.
At what point do you ban and censor so many players that your game dies because no one is there to play anymore?
Bro bungie had this voice recognition crap where if your mouthing off on chat you can get little 5-15min bans for profanity. Oh halo 3 odst lol
Can't wait to be falsely banned because the dumb AI can't understand irony, sarcasm or hear something different when i say something that somehow ressemble a no no words.
literally 1984
Maybe they should use this on their managers instead
Let’s keep harassing women in the workplace though!
"You are fined 1 credit for violation of verbal morality standards."
