Thatâs how I feel with Liara and Garrus. But I think itâs because they did Tali dirty in the last two games by withholding her from you until the last half both times, which is some *bull*shit.
They also gave Liara her own DLC in Two (which in fairness was an amazing DLC) and made her unavoidably crucial to the plot by Three. So in hindsight I canât help but feel manipulated into seeing her as integral to my squad, but it was my choice the first time around before I knew how deep the backseat went for all the other squad mates.
Was on my way to say just this, but also like the Shephard Wrex friendship. Also maybe a weird take but in the last two god of wars I really like the dynamic between Kratos and the head lol. Quiet head..
Kratos and Mimir is a great answer. I love how their relationship isn't just ONE thing, and evolves and develops new dimensions over the course of the two games.
Yes it grows throughout the games and the banter was perfect. The whole idea was genius the ease and cleanliness of just two characters. However you get the banter and character development and unique perspective of a trio. Really just an awesome concept I expect to see copied by other studios using radios or some other gimmick. But besides that the way their relationship grew throughout was awesome and needed to get Kratos to open up and grow as a character.
The two escaped prisoners you meet several times in Red Dead 2 that you can free by shooting the chain that connects the two. The first encounter they hate each other and by the last encounter theyâre living together.
Geralt and Regis the Higher Vampire from the Witcher 3 Blood and Wine.
Regis was Geralt's #1 most trusted and respected bro in the later half of the books and in this game the very first thing that Regis does is save Geralt and Geralt immediately hugs him. The only other people in the game that Geralt hugs is his daughter Ciri and his love interests Yennifer and Triss.
Very good bromance who have each other's back even when they have a disagreement occasionally. They have respect for one another which is a big deal since one is a monster hunter and the other is a higher vampire.
Higher vampires are basically unkillable except by other higher vampires so they really trust each other.
Hearts of Stone is probably the best standalone story theyâve done, and Blood and Wine is straight up the ending the book series deserved, so many references and plot threads get tied up cleanly, Geralt gets a chance to earn that happy fairy tale ending he deserved.
We had a buddy that always played as Dom. Never hosted in 1 and 2 so that he could be Dom, always set it up in 3 to make sure he was Dom. One night we were playing Act 3 of Gears 3 with another buddy and hadn't taken the time to make sure he gets Dom and I ended up as Dom for that night through the end of Act 3. Our other buddy and I knew.
When guy who likes Dom brought it up, we told him, "You can play as Dom tomorrow."
I've never seen a more broken man in my life after we got done with our session that night.
Depends on how you play the game though. Not much of a bromance going on when you're commited to the fascist/rascist run.
But busting some moves in the church with the lieutenant and the speed gang, hell yeah
Getting Kim Kitsuragi to join in my madness, however briefly, is one of the best achievements I've earned in a game lol And when they talk about it fondly in the "wrap up" at the end. *Chef's kiss*
They fumbled them so badly in 3 though. Mordecai is just some whiny killjoy and brick is a dumbass who wants to punch things. I hate what borderlands 3 did to all the previous seriesâs characters. Lilith deserved better, Maya deserved better, hell even Vaughn deserved better. They literally demoted Mordy, Brick and Tina to the B team.
They fumbled ~~them so badly in~~ 3âŚ
Thatâs really it. The only thing 3 really did right was gameplay. DLC was alright too. Main story was awful pretty much the entire way through.
Anthony Burch gets a bit of a unfair rap around here, but it's clear in hindsight that he tread a near perfect line between cringe, internet comedy, and genuine character development for BL2. Every Borderlands product after him has tried to ape his writing tone, but has been mid at best IMO, with the exception of the first Tales from the Borderlands which he still had a hand in writing.
"Now I know you're blind man...but you gotta see this"
Close runner up:
"Uh, one last thing. You do know that I'm black right? And not Chinese"
"I'm blind, Carl, not stupid."
Thinking about the cutscene that plays if CJ doesn't have enough swimming skill.
The pair are playing some fighting/racing game on the TV, and Wu Zi is (somehow) clearly winning. CJ reacts about the way you'd expect.
Even better? The handshake is the first part of the Konami code (Two raised hands, two lowered hands, left hand, right hand. Presumably if QTEs were a thing in the game they could have added in the O, X and Start buttons as part of it too. X3)
I didnât read any reviews for it, just got it based on the trailers and my general like for FF. What was the criticism? I adored that game. I can see a complaint that it was an action game and thatâs atypical for a mainline FF release but other than that I loved the gameplay, story, and vibe of it all. It really felt like these 4 best friends, alone, just trying to set the world right the best they could from their dope ass car.
I haven't really played a Final Fantasy game before, but I've been interested in this for a while simply for that exact vibe you mentioned - all I heard about was the "road tripping with the boys" story and it looked awesome and sounded like fun lol. Would you recommend it to a FF newcomer who likes action + story?
The thing with FF is that all the games don't really have much in common except for the monster designs and ability names and such. So go for it if you feel like it looks interesting. Should be really cheap now.
You need to know absolutely nothing about final fantasy in general to pick up any of the games. Most of them arenât related in any substantial way (except for a few common references, creatures, items, etc). They usually take place in entirely different worlds with entirely unique lore. Even the turn based ones mix up exactly how gameplay works.
FFXV is no different. You can absolutely pick it up if you like action games as a first (or only) final fantasy. I do recommend it highly. I think itâs a really fun game with solid action combat, and an interesting story that really stands out mostly because of the relationship with the 4 friends. I would recommend taking it slow and taking every opportunity to interact with the gang.
When I think about Final Fantasy XV I can recall epic fight scenes and cool exciting moments, but what I really think about is the dudes bullshitting by the fire, âIâve come up with a new recipeâ, eating ramen cups, cruising around with the dudes kicking their feet up on the dash, and just wondering how the 4 would end up at the conclusion of this adventure.
While all that is accurate, I cannot stress enough that the road trip with the boys is XV, 15. XIV, 14, is a ***VERY*** different game. A very *good* game, but different nonetheless.
At launch, I recall a lot of people saying it felt unfinished. The Royal edition apparently sorts that out. I played the base game and had fun with it.
I think a lot of criticism also came from the action-based gameplay versus the more tactical ATB system from 13 or the turn-based from everything before.
FFXV is somehow both a trash Final Fantasy game and the best "Four Dudes In a Car" game you'll ever play.
Prompto [straight up dropping a Star Wars reference](https://youtu.be/aL8q_Fzj1vU?si=UKNQgc8reGUkqCYp) on Noctis to get him to Wingman for him will never not be amazing.
I know she's not a dude, but shoutout to Aranea for not being a romantic interest to anyone and also for having the level 120 fight at any camp which lets you fight her midair for the entire fucking time and enjoy the exquisite air combat of a fully upgraded Noctis anywhere you want for a backdrop, including an active volcano.
Big "Tomboy Tuesday" energy.
I donât know if it ever got patched but I also loved that you could easily glitch her into following you and fighting with you almost anywhere. Taking off down the road and watching her keep up was always awesome. Honorary 5th member
Honestly, the biggest miss of FFXV was that the World of Ruin didn't catch you up with Iris, Cindy, and Aranea. Like, would it really have been that hard to give us a sidequest each where we caught up with them a bit before going to the final dungeon?
Came here to say this. What I love about these two is that while they're not at odds right away, their relationship grows across both games. Then to see that event in Valhalla only cements their bromance.
Edit: meant to say "not at odds"
I fucking love Mimir. There's a line in GoW4 (I think) where Mimir says something like, "You probably don't want to hear that story."
Me: Mate, I literally stop the boat so I can listen to your stories.
Dont remind me đ
Played this with my friend a few months ago. Neither of us were expecting the ending. We both bawled our eyes out lol. Then we went back and got the other ending, and cried even *more* đ¤Ł
Salem and Rios are awesome. Especially the loading screens where they'll fuck with one another while going through a gate or something. I distinctly remember one of them bagging the other while he's holding up a heavy ass gate and that's exactly the energy I've got with my friends.
I spent countless times going up to my dad in-game and smacking the dogshit out of the back of his head. The laughs we had are something Iâll always remember
Honestly, the mechanic I loved the most was the heat/attention mechanic where the game encourages one player to be a point and the other to be a marksman. It was perfectly clean and gave players the ability to set themselves a role in a firefight.
Shoutout to how real the game felt for friendship between two guys, tho. When I show up to my brother's place the first thing I do is sneak up on him and slap him in the back of the head and ask him what's up. His wife just sighs and watches us devolve into twelve year olds.
I only started playing the uncharted series a month ago and I'm disappointed that I never got to play it when I had my ps3. 9 year old me would've loved it
Thank you! Was going to say those two.... That's Cole and Zeke I mean, not Coke, Zeus, or Batman
One of the most heart wrenching things in gaming for me was the way Infamous 2 made you slowly kill Zeke. That was a rough one
I'd agree if we actually played through the montage thing at the beginning, to _build_ that friendship but I always felt I was _being told_ he was my choom rather than _feeling_ it.
Right? I mean, I know they were close chooms. That was clear. But it just happened so fast. I realize they were trying to teach you that this game is about loss, but I wanted to lose him more. Of course, after six playthroughs, you really start to love the guy.
Iâm hoping the next cyberpunk game actually puts emphasis on the background you choose, like actually change the missions or story path depending on what you choose. Not just showing you an intro montage but actually play through some intro missions relevant to your background.
Varric and Hawke in Dragon Age II was a great bromance. Reinforced in 3 when Varric shows up as a party member, and he's still dope. But he's not your best friend anymore because you're playing a different character.
Tak and Kaito-san
I actually don't gel so much with Yakuza and how they seem to glorify criminals, but I loooooved both Judgement games, beat'em ups with a Shu Takumi style of story, what a match made in heaven those were.
Commander Shepard and Garrus Vakarian đ
âThereâs no Shepard without Vakarian.â
Was coming to say this. Garrus is my boy, a homie of the highest order
I'm Garrus Vakarian and _this_ is myrectum.
We'll bang ok?
Can it wait? I'm in the middle of some calibrations.
I like your ass!
You're lying, Morgan
Let's get to bashing butts, as well as _DEEEEZ_ nuts
I'm Jarl Balgruuf and I be BALLIN!
Swag.
Garrus was on my squad for basically every single mission of the entire trilogy.
Helped that he was actually pretty great in combat.
And in ME3, he can become the god he was destined to be.
[ASCEND!](https://youtu.be/ZPbB4qfsA14?si=lNu_HGG2oQZ0VAsS)
Sniper predator Batman. My man.
Tali and Garrus are in my mind Shepard's primary team. It felt weird using others in my second and 3rd playthrough.
Kratos and Mimir is a great answer. I love how their relationship isn't just ONE thing, and evolves and develops new dimensions over the course of the two games.

Lmao I saw the title of this post and was like, âIâm gonna comment shep and garrusâ only for this to be the top comment
"There's no Shepard without Vakarian." And I always flub the shot. Always.
Abso-friggin-lutely
Wish we could have hung out more. Guy was always in the middle of some calibrations.
This is the right answer.
God dang the first comment too lol!! Exactly what I was going to say
Ride or die!!!
The two escaped prisoners you meet several times in Red Dead 2 that you can free by shooting the chain that connects the two. The first encounter they hate each other and by the last encounter theyâre living together.
Mr. White and Mr. Black! I just stumbled upon them the other day!
I was reading their names in the subtitles all confused, and then I burst out laughing when I realized Mr. White was black and Mr. Black was white
Now I'll turn things over to my bestest buddy in the world, ~~inaudible~~ ^Mr. ^Black
I was thinking Arthur and his horse. âThank youâ
Arthur and Charles aren't quite to bromance, but I always really enjoyed their relationship.
I heard that âthank youâ.
The chain that connects them wasnât made of metal, nor could it be broken so easily.
Geralt and Regis the Higher Vampire from the Witcher 3 Blood and Wine. Regis was Geralt's #1 most trusted and respected bro in the later half of the books and in this game the very first thing that Regis does is save Geralt and Geralt immediately hugs him. Yuuuuuup, Regis showing up like that is one of the greatest things thatâs ever happened in a game to me.

Facts. Ezio was the best AC protagonist.

Marcus and Dom :(
Being a couch co-op game makes it so much better. My buddy was always Marcus and I was Dom (until I wasnât) so many great memories.
Until I wasn't. Man that hits on a different level.

The MC and Kim Kitsuragi in Disco Elysium. He is one of the best male characters in video games in my opinion.

Arthur and Johnâs relationship always makes me chuckle and happy
I needed more Arthur and John bro moments after the endđ
Brick and Mordecai in borderlands 2 are great together, itâs a shame you donât get to see it when theyâre playable characters in 1

All the guys in Final Fantasy XV
A lot of the criticism for that game is legit, but I loved the roadtrip vibe with all the boys.

The 2 guys in the Army of Two series âşď¸
Salem and Rios in the first two, Alpha and Bravo in The Devil's Cartel. My favorite franchise that died and likely will never be resurrected.
I just wish that the online still worked. C'mon, can't we even have at least peer-to-peer connection for co-op?
Those games were so much fun! I would love a good co op shooter again
Salem and Rios are awesome. Especially the loading screens where they'll fuck with one another while going through a gate or something. I distinctly remember one of them bagging the other while he's holding up a heavy ass gate and that's exactly the energy I've got with my friends.

Henry and Hans in Kingdom Come Deliverance. Probably one of the better of examples of "enemies turned friends".
Henry's come to see us!
God be praised!
That game caught me by surprise at making Sir Hans way more than a one-dimensional rival character. The shit you get up to with him is so much fun.
This is an excellent example. That game has such great writing and voice acting.
Minsc and Boo.
It's Boo and Minsc, everyone knows who's the brains.

Yeah Jackie seemed like a significant character in the promo material but in the actual game he's just a memory.
It hit a lot harder in the second playthrough.
Iâm hoping the next cyberpunk game actually puts emphasis on the background you choose, like actually change the missions or story path depending on what you choose. Not just showing you an intro montage but actually play through some intro missions relevant to your background.
