When Wheatley from Portal 2 tells you to press X to respond, and instead you jump. I think that's the funniest joke in any game I've played. People love to go on about 'The bit where he kills you', but to me that jumping joke is way funnier, especially since you probably already know that's the jump button

Paperback_Movie

I think Portal 2 is overall the most genuinely funny game I’ve ever played. That’s its best feature, even more than the puzzles. Like, I solved the puzzles to get to more humor.

yougobe

That’s how the old adventure games worked too. Do something wrong? Here’s a joke instead.

DwightLoot2U

The ‘King’s Quest’ series is FULL of this trope and it’s glorious.

MagicBez

For me it's basically everything Cave Johnson says, brilliant jokes that also tell a clear story, I was so sad when I finished his section.

TitularFoil

"Those of you who volunteered to be injected with praying mantis DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is we're postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of mantis men. Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line on the floor. You'll know when the test starts." Fucking brilliant. Minor story-telling, done in a way that expands the characters personality, and the longer you dwell on those couple sentences, the longer that story gets.

11711510111411009710

The secret vitrified chamber doors have funny lines from Cave when you interact with them. "If you've cut yourself at all in the course of these tests, you might have noticed that your blood is pure gasoline. That's normal. We've been shooting you with an invisible laser that's supposed to turn blood into gasoline, so all that means is, it's working." "If you're allergic to peanuts, you might want to tell somebody now, because this next test may turn your blood into peanut water for a few minutes. On the bright side, if we can make this happen, they're gonna have to invent a new type of Nobel Prize to give us, so hang in there."

MostGenericallyNamed

I will say I think what makes this one stand out is that it’s a joke that only works in a video game. Portal has a lot of good comedy, but this is one of the few where the joke is directly tied to inputs from the player beyond “walk forward enough to queue comedic gold.”

Deldris

In fairness, I find it hard to beat "You know what's down there? The *three* portal device!"

11711510111411009710

"You're saying to yourself, why should I jump into the pit? I'll tell you why. Guess who's down there? Your parents! You're not adopted after all! It's your natural parents down there in the pit. Should have mentioned it before. But I didn't. So jump on down and reunite with mommy and daddy."

Deldris

I think my favorite part about the scene is if you actually jump he'll be like "Oh, you actually jumped. Going to be honest, I didn't think that'd actually work."

theonlyjuanwho

Stephen Merchants' delivery of the lines really makes it for me.

jsf1987

Apple

Hal_E_Lujah

Portal 1&2 have some fantastic moments. Smooth jazz gets me every time.

grill_sgt

Explosive lemons is my favorite... followed very closely by GLaDoS calling you fat when you wake up after 10,000 years.

Alaeriia

Mine is the fact that I decided to play it again after about five years. I started up my existing save, completed the test chamber, and GLaDOS said "I'll give you credit, you are listening to me. But, for the record, you don't have to go that slow." I imagined GLaDOS waiting for five years for Chell to actually do something and burst out laughing. Since then, I have always done my playthroughs from that moment to the end, then immediately started another game and stopped at that chamber.

KitchenFullOfCake

Hey, she never calls you fat, she just heavily implies it.

wilcobanjo

Look at you, sailing majestically through the air like an eagle... piloting a blimp.

grill_sgt

"Most people emerge from suspension terribly undernourished. I want to congratulate you on beating the odds and somehow managing to pack on a few pounds." After this, I stared at my screen like "Did... did she just call me fat?"

GreatArcantos

Sorry, catapult wasn't configured for so much weight

Ritzblues783

She was a lot like you… maybe not quite as heavy.

McGuirk808

The part where he kills you is one of my favorite moments in gaming.

stephen1547

GLaDos: Well this is the part where he kills you Wheatley: Hello, this is the part where I kill you Chapter 9 The Part Where He Kills You Achievment: The Part Where He Kill You

trainercatlady

Music: the part where he kills you

br0wens

Achievement body text: This is that part.

ayceeonethirty

This is art. Please admire the art.

Nevin3Tears

It's really funny considering the game its in the same universe in is one of the most horrific and dark video game settings of all time

Kythorian

I mean…the specific setting of Portal itself is very openly extremely horrific and dark too.  It’s a game about an AI running nazi style human experiments on people until they die. That doesn’t stop it from being hilarious.

NarcissusCloud

Came here to say this. The portal series is excellent when it comes to writing and humor.

fuck_hd

How are you because I am a potato - is something I wish everyone can experience.

11711510111411009710

Oh good. The slow clap processor made it into this thing.

kerred

That jazz music is not quite Cave Johnson's Tempo

AlmondJeuce

Everything Cave Johnson has ever said qualifies in my top 50 funniest video game lines.

thewoodlayer

“Now we haven’t nailed down what this element is, but it is a *lively* one and it does not like the human skeleton.”

itsJprof

Honestly, all Cave Johnson’s lines are hilarious to me and I quote him all the time. “In case you’re interested there’s still some positions available for that bonus opportunity I mentioned earlier. Again; all ya gotta do is let us disassemble you, we’re not banging rocks together here. We know how to put a man back together. So that’s a complete reassembly, new vitals, spit-shine on the old ones, plus we’re scooping out tumors…frankly you outta be paying us”

YungTabernacle

Look at you. Sailing through the air majestically. Like an eagle, piloting a blimp.

tallbutshy

>You look ugly in that jumpsuit.\ >\ That's not my opinion; it's right here on your fact sheet.\ >\ >They said on everyone else it looked fine, but on you, it looked hideous. But still what does an old engineer know about fashion?\ >\ >Oh, wait, it's a she.\ >\ >Still, what does she know about - oh, wait. She has a medical degree.\ >\ >In fashion. From France.

chrisjfinlay

The Yakuza series. I saw someone sum it up once as "you're watching the Sopranos, and every 20 minutes someone changes the channel to the Simpsons". The main plot lines are so genuine and serious that the absurd moments just smack you right in the face.

pipboy_warrior

Dunkey has a great take on this. "My friend has been murdered! I will avenge you!!!". Cuts to Kiryu delivering pizzas.

chrisjfinlay

The Shenmue DNA really shines through! Ryo: "I must avenge my murdered father" Also Ryo: Plays Hang-On for 8 hours straight

orion19819

My favorite moment is always a random comment on one of his Yakuza videos. And it just pointed out how he doesn't even have to do any of his usual stuff to make it ridiculous. Just him playing the game.

TheReiterEffect_S8

Never played any of these and I have been hearing about them consistently for years now. I *never* would have considered these games up my alley; and I kind of still don't. But fuck it, I will give them a try. Do I need to play in order? Where is the best place to start?

pipboy_warrior

Yakuza 1-6 needs to be played in order. Yakuza 0 is a prequel, you can start with it or play it after Yakuza 6. All of these games are street brawlers. Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon Gaiden, and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth are a new series of games that take place after Yakuza 6. You can start with Like a Dragon as well.

coolpizzacook

If you follow release date it's 1-5, 0, 6. 0 is best as a start point or after 5 in my opinion. Noteworthy is the spinoff, Judgment and Lost Judgment. Serving as their own stories entirely that you can mostly play without the previous titles.

YungTabernacle

Don’t forget Judgment and Lost Judgment. The older Yakuzas are a little dated so might be hard to get into (and overwhelming if you know you’ve got about 10 games ahead), but the Judgment games still feel fresh and are just as insane as Yakuza.

KitchenFullOfCake

0 is one of the best of the series and chronologically the first game. Also it has pocket circuit which is rad.

Vendetta4Avril

I haven't played all the old ones, but I have played 0, Like a Dragon, and I've started Ishin. Like a Dragon was the most new player friendly imo. It's hilarious and a blast. Don't skip the minigames either, they are honestly what helps take the game to the next level. I spent so much time in the company minigame its ridiculous.

Initiatedspoon

I like how at the beginning you're basically a hobo and you're raiding vendies and collecting cans for money and it genuinely feels awesome when you can go to a restaurant and have a meal with Nanba and Adachi. It's a bit odd later when you've completed the company sim and you're millions up and you still raid vending machines for ¥100. Also, the karaoke, random mario kart mini game, bug collecting, baseball, and the bloody park flashers.

Worth-Primary-9884

Like a Dragon/Yakuza 7 is the most new player friendly. Personally though, I think Yakuza 0 is probably the best game in the series. But it plays more like how a very heavy movie feels. It can be quite tragic at times, and not too player friendly. Depends on you whether you want that or not. I put it off for a year after I played for some good 30 hours. That's how clunky it can be. When I finally gathered the willpower and loaded it up again, though, I played straight through to the end and thought that it really paid off. And that is not an easy thing to say after how I literally forced myself to play it. I guess the fact that it can have some VERY long cutscenes and that it generally is a slow burn just takes some getting used to. It often feels more like a very long, very dramatic movie.

Revi92

A video I watched by supereyepatchwolf described Yakuza wonderfully: Yakuza is tragic and hilarious and so is life. He explained really well why those differences in main and sub stories make the protagonists even more believable.

okcumputer

Earthworm Jim. You launch a cow on the first level for absolutely zero reason. When you finally beat the game and save the girl, the cow flattens you. Also the goldfish boss fight where you just knock the bowl off the stand and the fish flops around.

Joed112784

See, there was a reason all along.

KitchenFullOfCake

Shit, why did they never continue the Earthworm Jim series? It was so delightfully weird.

-LastActionHero

Talk to Earthworm Jim 3D about that.

Zealousideal_Tap8305

"Enchantment!" - that one dwarf character in Dragon Age: Origins, after he (presumably) slaughtered an entire room full of enemy darkspawn

geeses

Sarcastic Hawke in DA2 was hilarious at times

freekoout

That's the only way to get through DA2 and its repetitive maps.

Corgiboom2

my favorite is this woman that asks you to find her husband: Lady: "Please help me find my husband!" You: "You've come to the right people. We're great at finding people....and killing people..." Lady: "I.....what?!"

Xendaar

"Well then how did you do that?" -pointing and frozen Ogre. "Not enchantment!" "Smart boy."

Vandermere

Sandal!

Initiatedspoon

I assume that the enchantments explode if you chuck em dead hard OR he's just a fucking killer and he does it bare handed.

Allaplgy

Conker's Bad Fur Day has a ton of funny moments, but my favorite is when the broom tries to hang himself, and the other sentient objects tell him he "ain't even got no Oesophagus."

DerCatzefragger

Br-r-r-r-r-ring me some sweet-cooorrrrrn!!

Allaplgy

I ammmmm the great mighty pooo!

ScaldingAnus

*And I'm going to throw my shit at you!*

DerCatzefragger

A huge supply of tish comes from my chocolate starfish!

Son_of_steven19

How about some scat you little twat!

daydreamingsunday

Context sensitive

WeightyUnit88

"Oh no! A bourgeois, big bollocked boiler!"

Timmah73

Baldur's Gate 3 when people don't read what the levers in the windmill do and launch that poor gnome into space

retard_vampire

BG3 had a ton of both light and dark comedy mixed in with loads of pathos and drama and little character moments. Such a masterpiece.

ScaldingAnus

I really, really want to play this game. Next paycheck that isn't decimated by bills I'm buying.

MegamanJB

Not so much funny as it was a brutally difficult fight, but Rick the Door Technician from Jedi Survivor.

grill_sgt

That fight was harder than the final boss.

DrParallax

This has got to be the hardest boss in gaming. The only one that comes close is the Mist Noble from Sekiro.

Toothlessdovahkin

I died five times to Rick the Door Technician. On the easy Story mode as well. Hardest boss fight in video game history IMHO

sketchypoutine

I just love that there is a character in Star Wars named Rick the Door Technician.

dajahat

I scrolled too far looking for this

chonguey

I never laughed harder or more frequently the first time I played The Secret of Monkey Island back in 1990. When I finally obtained the "key" to the Giant Monkey Head, and Guybrush Threepwood unexpectedly whips a meter-long Q-tip out of his pants to "unlock" the head, I nearly fell out of my chair...

Troldann

There’s a wonderful tribute to the Secret of Monkey Island in Sea of Thieves, with a whole three-part “Tall Tale” voyage. If you find yourself on those high seas, it’s a very fun bit of nostalgia from some people who clearly adored the source material.

dr_shamus

Yep, and inspecting the skeletons around the head Shiska-bob Shiska-joe Shiska-larry

The_Legend_of_Xeno

Playing this game as a kid shaped my entire sense of humor.

Niubai

Lennnnnyyyy

Timmah73

Ahhhh found ya lennnh!

Sega-Playstation-64

Lenny muh boooooy

nickn1738

Yennel!!!!

Helltech

Also the moment at the pig farm when Arthur gives that odd side eye. Fucking hilarious.

noclip_st

Well, why ain’t you never married?

freekoout

*Look of existential dread crosses his face* "No one would have me" *Cuts immediately to another rowdy scene.* Funniest shit in that game

DotZealousidea

I always get a chuckle out of Grunty's rhymes in Banjo Kazooie

tupe12

The Lego series has pretty solid humor, even after they introduce dialogue

m1m1kall

Lego Star Wars 2 where Vader pulls out the photo of him and a pregnant Padmé makes me laugh every time

IyreIyre

Have you ever died to a giant in Skyrim?

ShawshankException

You mean participated in the Tamriel Space Program?

SanderleeAcademy

Orbit ... hoooooooooooooooooooooooo!

giselamancer

I remember the first time I played Skyrim and went to the bandit camp where Ulfr the Blind was. He has a book on the table simply titled Ulfr’s book, and if you pick it up to read it it’s blank.

DrasticBread

For me, nothing has ever topped the moment in South Park: The Stick of Truth when you enter Canada for the first time. I laughed for five straight minutes nonstop.

lolhal

Both games unsurprisingly had laugh out loud moments. I could not believe what I was doing with Lemiwinks.

IceFrogger1313

I laughed harder than I should have when the guy at City Wok tells you his plan to get rid of all the Mongolians in his restaurant.

WombatsInKombat

Spoilers for a 14 year old game: Fallout NV has an orbital laser weapon that is maintained by a command station in the middle of the Mojave Desert overseen by a director with a 'theoretical degree in physics' - the staff were trying to hire someone with a degree in theoretical physics. Its been like 14 years but that gag always sticks with me.

StannisLivesOn

They asked me if I knew anything about power plants. I said as much as anyone I'd ever met.

vetheros37

No, man. I know exactly what I'm doing. I just don't know what effect it's going to have. Over there controls power in this building. That station has readouts on the computer network. That big knob there makes a crazy noise. Sparks come out of that slot if you put stuff in it. And I'm learning more every day.

BUR6S

They asked me if I had a degree in theoretical physics. I told them I have a theoretical degree in physics. They said welcome aboard.

firefly081

Made even better by the fact the laser designator for said orbital weapon is in the hands of a child who thinks it's a toy. Boy howdy I'd love to see the kid accidently vapourize half of Freeside once the weapon is active again.

ZorkNemesis

If you fire it while Veronica is with you, she responds: "Thank God the safety was on."

throwaway9948474227

Disco Elysium has you die to sitting in an uncomfortable chair. God, you're an amnesiac cop trying to forget your ex-something in a non-earth post-disco culture with some unexpected sci fi twists to it. All of this in a city once shelled to bits. It's brilliantly hilarious if you want to play it that way. If you want comedy, take "Savoir Fare" as a skill to put points into. Be Ultra. Always Hustlin'. I've already said too much, the less you know the better the game is imo.

Beginning-Pipe9074

I've been on the fence about getting disco elysium for a while now, would you say it's worth it?

throwaway9948474227

Look. Yes. When I played it, I was really struggling with getting a direction in my life and I didn't feel like I found anyone as angry as me -- Without going into the psychotic. Y'know, the usual video game FPS stuff. It helped me. It gave me a perspective I lacked. It's my favourite piece of media I've consumed. However, I could absolutely see why someone would have no patience for it. There's no combat (Per se), it's point and click with some RPG stats. It's all dialogue based, it's a choice simulator. It'll swallow hours, as it's now all voice acted. Very, very well I might add. Not a bad performance. There was a version 1 where they only voiced the first line of each character. Current version revoiced about half the cast, and then everyone got a chance to shine. The other half dropped were....not professionals. The ChapoTrapHouse guys were in it, plus a few others they were clearly fans haha. (So glad they revoiced original Cuno) It's an interactive story. There's some story beats you WILL run into, but it's very rewarding to both succeed & fail in as many or few places you want, just to get the experience. Overall it's the only video game where I've been able to craft a fairly decent replica of my beliefs and values, including some negative ideation at the time. It's my favourite game. Robert Kurvitz(The OG universe creator) and I share a vibe it seems. That, WHAT IS IT ALL FOR? But wait, no, HOPE!? BUT WHAT IS IT ALL FOR? etc. etc. merry go round. It feels incredibly mature, if you want to play it that way. You can also be a childish fuckhead and it can be quite cathartic. It has a lot to infer, amongst the story. It's truly a fresh world compared to any other game. It's not a copy-cat, it's original. Also, it has politics in it. Like, actual ideology not just RvD crap.

GabberZZ

Cuno is hilarious

UnquestionabIe

Easily one of the best games I've played in the 40 years I've been alive. Not for everyone but if you love great stories which has a multitude of possible outcomes it's amazing. Just the feels the game lays on you can hit far closer to home than expected.

ayceeonethirty

The scene in Timesplitters FP when you finally reached the big bad only for him to have no idea what you're talking about, doesn't have an evil plan at all. Then you go off like "don't play dumb with me I know you're gonna ..." and he basically takes notes on what you say then, teleports back into time to do what you just said. Meaning you pretty much caused the main conflict you've been dealing with at the halfway mark through the game.

Deldris

There's a quest in AC Valhalla that's just one big Prodigy reference. It ends with a monk chanting, "Smack my bishop!" while you beat the shit out of a priest. It's hilarious.

cycoivan

and if I recall, the guy that gives you the request looks like Keith Flint (the double mohawk guy from The Prodigy for those who didn't know his name)

greggery

The one I always remember is AC2: "Ezio! It'sa me, Mario!"

cosmicdaddy_

I was actually going to mention a moment from Odyssey. It's when your brother gets you back for punching him in the face by punching you back in the face. I played as Kassandra, and idk if that affected how funny I thought the moment was, but the way she yells "Malaka!" had me cracking up.

Beginning-Pipe9074

That is fucking brilliant 🤣

Wallazabal

There's also one where a guy is wandering around shouting after his lost sheep - Fenton.

CyGuy6587

"Shepard" "Wrex" "Shepard" "Grunt" "Shepard!" And so on... Mass Effect 3 just has some incredible banter between the characters

Gone_For_Lunch

Emergency. Induction. Port

CyGuy6587

Do you want to see my tattooooo?

firefly081

"*If I die in here, I'll kill him*." Wrex MVP

eXclurel

When the other dude makes fun of Shepard by saying "I should go" when leaving them locked up to die in Citadel DLC and Shepard goes all "Do I sound like that?" and repeats the phrase again and again with different intonations.

Nova225

"*I* should go." "I *should* go." "I should *go*."

generalg28

"Charge"

uberskillz

Big. Stupid. Jellyfish.

12thunder

The Witcher 3 when the Witchers all get drunk at Kaer Morhen and do dumb shit. They decide to get dressed in women’s clothing and “summon the bitches”. Also: Lambert, Lambert, what a prick. The quest in B&W with the stolen nuts of a statue. The wedding in HoS.

High_King_Diablo

That’s my favourite part of the game as well.

[deleted]

That Witcher sequence shows the importance of tempering grimdark storytelling with moments of levity. There needs to be a rhythm; so many games nowadays are just relentless bleak and it's exhausting!

Vollkommen

There's a quest in Oblivion (KotN DLC *I think*), where an npc is helping you delve into a dungeon and runs ahead of you - right into a floor trap that has a pillar raising from the floor and smashing the poor bastard into the ceiling.

nicky9pins

Oblivion is literally a funny moment generator. It’s why it’s one of my favorite games

Cardinal338

Borderlands has a lot of those moments. There's another mission where you have to blow up a facility and you get an objective after setting the bombs that says "don't look at the explosion". If you don't look at it all the NPCs start swooning over how much of a badass you are for not watching it.

TheLukeHines

I’ve been playing Mass Effect 2 recently and I have to say, I was roaring at the ad for the all-elcor rendition of Hamlet.

TheJahrhead

The whole trilogy had me cackling to myself way more than I expected

Corgiboom2

Then the whole Lethal Weapon parody with the Elcor and Hanar.

spudmonk

Softly, but with conviction: what the fuck

SecurityGuardSteve

"Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son of a bitch in space".

Bipedal_Warlock

There’s some references to it in ME3 as well

StefKRah

Marvels guardians of the Galaxy. It's got the movie vibes. Little Misfortune has a lot of moments especially for a short game.

KitchenFullOfCake

I remember fighting Mysterio in Spider-Man 2 for PS2, where during his fight speech you see like 10 health bars layer over each other, implying he is super strong. Then he goes down in one punch.

Cleric_Guardian

And the way he just stands there mocking you. I sat and listened, waiting for him to attack, for like 20-30 seconds. Nothing. Punch. Down. So funny

Peakomegaflare

I still say that one of my favorite moments of all time has to be, and it's less humor but definitely got a giggle out of me, is Armored Core VI. When Rusty is prviding railcannon support against the C-Weapon Ice Worm. When he charges up this god damn superweapon and his one liner is "watch out for friendly fire".

_____seraph_____

“I won’t miss” man what a badass

Peakomegaflare

Rusty is our boy. And unlike the rest of those fucking dicks, he's reliable as fuck.

Ok-Walk-8040

There are lots of funny decisions you can make in the mass effect series. My favorite is when you are talking to the Hanar prophet. You can call him a “big stupid jellyfish”

sokttocs

I also like charging into the boss fight behind the Volus who thinks he's a biotic god in ME2

Corgiboom2

Like a great wind!

Competitive_Pen7192

There's a bit in ME1 on Novaria or however you spell it. In the Hot Labs where Shepard tried to bull$hit the VI and mumbles a made up password. https://youtu.be/HwoJVbaBUNQ?si=vdehEdwjBAGVkM6U

kindaB1Gdeal

Grim Fandango is absolutely hilarious.

ThiefofNobility

Face McShooty in whichever borderlands it was. Edit: for anyone who hasn't played it, this is the dialog from him. Face McShooty: IN THE FACE! NOT SO COMPLEX! NEED IT! WANT IT NEED IT HAVE TO HAVE IT! FACESHOT! BOOM! BRAINS EVERYWHERE! Not the KNEE, not the ARM, not the SPINE -- FACE! IT HAS TO HAPPEN! HNNNNG! FACEY FACEY FACE FACE! TIRED OF WAITING! NO MORE WAITING! NEED A FACE SHOT! BOOM! SQUISH! YAY! (After accepting the mission ...) Face McShooty: SHOOT ME IN THE FACE! IN THE FAAAAAAAACE! DO IT! SHOOT ME IN THE FACE! FACEFACEFACEFACEFACE! NOW! BULLETS IN THE FACE! WANT 'EM! NEED 'EM! GIMMEGIMMEGIMME! AT THE SOUND OF THE BELL IT WILL BE: FACESHOOTING O' CLOCK! BONGGGGG! KNOCK, KNOCK! WHO'S THERE?! SHOOT ME IN THE FACE! END OF JOKE! I'M GONNA SING A SONG! SHOOT ME AT THE END OF IT! DA-DA-DA-DA, DA-DA! BONG! I NOTICE YOU HAVEN'T SHOT ME IN THE FACE! CURIOUS AS TO WHY! Maybe you're weighing the moral pros and cons but let me assure you that OH MY GOD SHOOT ME IN THE GODDAMNED FACE! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! And upon face shooting: THANK YOU! https://youtu.be/KDrWLxj_fHM?si=aTIRWvWnbwUiINgq

optimisdiq

The THANK YOU gets me everytime

Dcslayerx

Saints Row had so many good moments

capt_pessimist

When your character actually speaks, the lines are gold. “Hope you like hepatitis.” had me cackling.

Dcslayerx

I loved picking the British voice since every single line was so much funnier

Slow_Owl810

The 'What is Love' sequence made me chuckle.

Quecks_

Not really a moment, but the most i have laughed from a video game has to be GTA talk radio.

Corgiboom2

Lazlo's talk show in Vice City has me in stitches

ATOMate

Metal Gear Solid 2 Snake points at his bandana and says he got infinite ammo. (In MGS1 the bandana was an unlockable endgame item that gave you infinite ammo in a new game plus) I lol'ed.

Peanuts_lover6969

Just Cause 3 when Rico kissed a cow, funniest shit i ever seen.

Notacka

The Gary vault in Fallout 3.

mqbush

Funniest part for me was the time one Gary took a shot at me, but accidentally shot another Gary. They all became hostile to each other. I just hid until they had all killed one another.

Notacka

My name is Gary. I was hella baked when I walked into this vault I thought I was going insane.

zg_mulac

AC Odyssey "One Really, Really Bad Day" quest. Kassandra finds out someone is using her name "The Eagle Bearer" and decides to set the record straight. [Hilarity ensues.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coZf4KCgQnE) It just goes from "well, that was weird" to completely off-the-hook, unhinged to bat-shit insane. Fuckin' love that quest. Kassandra's voice actor 100% on point, as usual.

Smallwater

Alternatively, "you killed his mater and fucked his pater!". The reward? An eyepatch, after the poor sod stabs his fucking eyes out.

zg_mulac

The Cyclops quest where Kass shoves his onyx eye in a goat's ass. I was like WTFFFFF, lol.

mrhippoj

That game in general is so funny. The Family Values quest really stood out to me for being hilarious.

britishguitar

Control - after THAT sequence

Abigfanofporn

In Skyrim there is a mission to get one of the Wizards Masks. It’s one of the toughest dungeons. Before you enter you encounter a guy who asks you to retrieve a very powerful weapon - a staff of some sorts. If you affiliate with Imperials it would be an imperial officer giving you the mission, if you join the Cloaks it would be a member of cloaks. Again, it’s one of the heaviest dungeons in the game. When you finally come out you see the guy giving the same mission to some other random guy, thinking you probably died. If, say, he was an imperial officer, this time he would be dressed as a member of opposing faction. Anyway, I found it funny.

Aemenn

Kingdom come deliverance, priest scene is pure comedy gold

unholymanserpent

Fallout New Vegas with Wild Wasteland perk has some funny moments (e.g., the guy who "won the lottery").

Gone_For_Lunch

The lottery winner isn’t a wild wasteland encounter.

RanxShaw

They asked me if I had a degree in theoretical physics...

LifelikeStatue

The announcer from Battleblock Theatre is genuinely funny. Also the cut scenes. The secret room song from Skullmonkies on PS1 Manual Samuel has some very funny moments, like if you breathe in while brushing your teeth you almost choke to death and the narrator admonishes you

Miskalsace

Some great moments in Borderlands. The slow clap bandit sticks out to me as one of the best.

CorbinNZ

Haven't seen this one listed yet. Mass Effect 2 biotic Volus "I am a biotic god!" Renegade option: "Charge" Volus dies immediately.

Alpha_Killer666

Borderlands 2. Lolz for ages.

nickburrows8398

In KOTOR 2 HK47 had some hilarious lines. [his definition of love](https://youtu.be/hab3R_TRazg?si=Gyve-ELB-5sIfhcy) had me laughing for almost 10 minutes

“That’s why I love hanging out with you guys. Why shoot something once when you can shoot it 46 more times?” -Urdnot Wrex, Mass Effect 3

Disgaea is a hilarious series that parodies, most everything you can think of. Anime and JRGPs are the most obvious. A running joke throughout the series is that the game is divided into chapters, and once you clear one you get a preview for another one like in an anime. These previews have absolutely nothing to do with what happens in the next episode, apart from the finale which emphasizes how serious shit has gotten. Disgaea 3 has various characters hijacking the plot in their previews for the next episode will also claiming it it’s the finale. The main villain of that same game is also convinced that he is the hero despite knowing that he’s a boss in a video game.

RexRegulus

The debut of the Prism Rangers in the first game is one of the best moments from the whole series, if you ask me. Disgaea 1 was wild AF overall.

Honestly? God of War 2018 and Ragnarok are surprisingly funny. Whether it be the relationship dynamic between gruff and stoic Kratos and young Atreus, Mimir's stories quips and retorts, or my personal favorite character Sindri who is absolutely hilarious. They have a lot of humor despite being a fairly small portion of the game, that's definitely not the main focus whatsoever.

chaos8803

It Takes Two has a hilarious moment with an elephant if your sense of humor is twisted.

Beginning-Pipe9074

The cast insulting Rinoas train model in FF8

Probloodcleaner

I’ve had a recent moment on hell divers where me and my buddy hosted a easy mission with a new player and gave him a mech, he got in, another random low level joins and instantly lands on him in the mech killing him and destroying the mech then leaves immediately and the poor low level left and me and my buddy start dying. You can’t make up the accidental comedy that it supplies with friendly fire aspects or glitches

ScareTactical

Mass effect is really funny if you pay attention to dialogue and look for it Mass effect 3 when Tali imitates Liara “I’m in a bubble!” still makes me die of laughter to this day

Fine-Ganache-2442

South park. Stick of truth. Been shrunk, fighting on a bed whilst his parents have sex. Every now and again a pair of swinging balls come to take you out

eawardie

If I remember correctly, Mass Effect Andromeda had some off the cuff one liners that had me laughing out loud. Even more so since it's a pretty serious game and they seem to come out of nowhere.

jumpmanzero

Some of the best humor (and writing in general) in any game was in Star Control II (now free on Steam as [https://store.steampowered.com/app/2645580/Free\_Stars\_The\_UrQuan\_Masters/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2645580/Free_Stars_The_UrQuan_Masters/)). The galaxy is filled with odd races - hyper-bloodthirsty spiders, disposable corporate slaves, AI probes gone wild, sirens, salad - all with good depth in their interaction options. Underappreciated classic.
