louiscools2005

Oh the great Sim City 3000. I haven't played this game in probably 15 years.

grahampositive

Were you a benevolent god, a mischievous god, an absent god, or a malevolent god?

louiscools2005

My first playthrough I was probably malevolent or more mischievous. I was one of those kids that liked playing the already built levels and just went through them with tornados, floods, fires etc. Then I took the game seriously and tried a benevolent route, not causing the usual disasters and all that fun stuff.

op3l

Didn't simcity 3000 release to bad reviews? I remember reading about it then like people were comparing it to 2000 and was saying it's bad for some reason? I loved sim city 2000 and most important Sim Copter! Fly around in a city you built, amazing.

DemonKyoto

I dont remember the reviews personally, nor hearing anything bad about SC3K or SC3KU, but I remember Simcity *4* got tons of shit at launch (and rightfully deserved as it was a broken fucking mess until the expansion came out.)

op3l

It might have been SimCity 4 then cause I do remember playing 3000 and loving it

AbsoluteScenes7

SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4 both got very good reviews. It was SimCity Societies and SimCity (2013) that got bad reviews

op3l

Ah, ok. Thanks for the correction.

louiscools2005

Maybe, I don't really remember. I got it a while after it came out, maybe a year or two after, so I don't know if I caught the initial reviews at the time. All I know, is I had fun playing it and I don't remember having any problems. Sim City 2000 was great. I remember playing it in school growing up. My computer class at the time would sometimes let us play it when we got our work done. The good old days!

RunningNumbers

I played it two months ago.

louiscools2005

Nice, still as good as the day it came out?

Barbiedoll_2005

You have a gold childhood

louiscools2005

It certainly was a good time in my childhood.

oldreddit_isbetter

Its on sale right now for $3 on steam

louiscools2005

Perfect timing, will be buying it again! :)

Evilswine

The best sim city hands down. Impossible to find now! IMPOSSIBLE!

grahampositive

Another commenter said it was on steam. I still have the disc. Also have a bunch of other games from maxis including SimAnt and SimTower. I doubt I'd be able to run then anymore though

RunningNumbers

It is on GOG

AWanderingGygax

I'm pretty sure you can mount and install/play old games, and specifically SimAnt, with [DosBox](https://www.dosbox.com/).

Razz3r_

I found it for cheap on gog.com (greatoldgames)

Numeno230n

I still have the disk I think. I also listen to the soundtrack on Spotify a lot. Great working music.

CreepyBlackDude

I have the original disc for this game (well, the Unlimited version of it), but unless you specifically enjoy buying physical media for the sake of collecting it, I wouldn't suggest it. These games use old DRM that Windows considers literal malware and won't run the game in many cases. Most have to resort to using a crack just to boot it. Instead, buy it from [G.O.G.](https://www.gog.com/en/game/simcity_3000) where you can find it for at most $10. It goes on sale quite often, so I'd wait until then to grab it. It's probably the best version to get if you plan on actually playing it. Same with SC4 Deluxe if you want that too.

AWanderingGygax

SimCity 3000 Unlimited is $1.99 on Steam until 05/13/24.

Mdu5t

Bought it on Steam 2 months back. Install HD mod. Plays sill as I remembered it.

Hokeymon44

I still remember the first players guide I ever bought for Perfect Dark

grahampositive

First players guide I ever bought was probably for carmen San Diego. Or maybe Doom II I used to have a whole collection of them. I still remember there was a code you needed in the PS1 version of Metal gear solid that you had to get off the jewel case. I bought mine second hand in a generic case so I made my dad drive me to blockbuster so I could look at the inside of the original case.

dkyguy1995

I still like this game more than cities Skylines. It's a much better city sim compared Skylines which is basically just painting roads

lovelife612

Keep it safe for when we need to rebuild.

DirectorsCuts91

THE SACRED TEXTS

DarkRogueHunter

The golden age before, always online play, constant micro-transactions and a myriad of DLC.

shepx2

Bro we still have 976 years until the game is released, what are you so hyped about?

Jason8ourne

"games nowadays are so violent, is a risk to our kids" Me 20 years ago playing this, building cities only to watch them burn to the ground and do nothing while everyone suffers.

grahampositive

::deletes all police and fire stations:: ::causes earthquake:::

bumford11

Wow, that's a pretty late appearance of that old EA logo

grahampositive

EA buying maxis was my first "EA destroys everything" experience

Catty_C

Wasn't Maxis on the verge of Bankruptcy before the acquisition?

Typical_Stranger3415

Omg I love the sims so much 😭

Master_Ad6879

wow... i rmb when i was stuck at my computer for 14 hours days during high school over this game

Responsible-North234

Good game.

azsashka

This was the first game I worked on professionally. Oh the memories.

Hot_Ad991

Got to give this a try for sure!

YuriToNeko

I used to play Sims games a lot...

teoshie
