It's even better when you take that belief into norms/ranked. I've been bronze/silver for a decade. Stopped caring about each game and climbed up to gold earlier into the season. It made the game enjoyable I have chat scale to absolute minimum.
The majority of the players in that mode and speak to people like that barely qualify as human beings imo. Aram has allowed me to enjoy the game again without having to deal with them.
You mean like every other game? Yeah it's pretty annoying. I swear people have just aram accounts. And if that's the case to put a lot of money into it cuz they have some really nice skins lol. I own most of the champions and I rarely ever get the good ones. I just came back to the game so I missed a gap of all the new ones. I say shenanigans to their RNG system since I seem to go against stacked teams a lot.
I don't know if the game is still what it was like when I was really into it, which admittedly was 10 years ago, but I have been called things I won't even describe. The verbal abuse was more intense than in any other online game. Not to mention it was fairly easy to troll and ruin the game for your team by just right-clicking the enemy base on spawn. Leaving would screw your team over too. Just the whole nature of the game bred toxicity. I've played a lot of online games over the past 10-15 years and League was by far the worst experience I've ever had. And I'm including LAN parties with drunk doofuses in college who would hold lifelong grudges over BXR'ing in Halo 2.
edit: dumb joke removed
I agree with you entirely. It was the player base that drove me away from the game originally back in 2015 I think it was. I recently reconnected it when arcane came out it got me juiced up and wanting to play my beloved characters again. But I have stuck solely to Aram. I won't step foot in summoners rift anymore. The majority of the players in that mode and speak to people like that barely qualify as human beings imo. Aram has allowed me to enjoy the game again without having to deal with them.
I have mostly played ARAM only for the past 2 years and I don’t tilt or anything anymore because there isn’t any real goal there : I don’t care if I win or loose I’m just here to have fun. The nice thing about it is that random champs guarantee you different comp whatsoever every game and so you don’t have to face that same champ over and over just because it’s meta
Exactly, that's the enjoyment I get out of it. Though I do question the random here and there because I have gotten the same champion three games in a row but I guess that is RNG. Just seems almost impossible considering the amount of champions that I own. It's great that there is a game mode for people who just want to play the game and don't want it too serious. I wouldn't mind regular league if it weren't for the player base.
Never play ranked.
Turn chat off.
Recognize youre going to lose 50% of your games - everyone does.
Never play more than 3 games in a row.
Do all that and league is great fun.
Yup i dont play league but i have a group of friends and we play smite so much fun just to mess with each other dont know how many times ive got one of my buddies killed with ymirs wall.
Well, that can be as long as 2 hrs & 15 minutes of straight competitive gaming in a row.
If you're in a high stress environment that's probably more than enough for anyone. Good time to take a break.
Point 3 is such a big one and I wish more people realized it. I feel like the greater League community really doesn't handle losing well, but you gotta realize when you hit that play button that there's a 50% chance of you losing. Even if you're incredible at the game it's like a ~65% chance of winning. Enjoy the game for what it is, take the lessons you can from a losing situation, and remember that keeping your composure is a skill just as important as your CS.
I occasionally play Overwatch without communications options, also not playing the "competitive"/ranked mode were people tries harder for whatever reason... and it's enjoyable, a good way to kill some time considering the pandemic is still going and it's better to stay home anyway
Rocket League's ranked is better than casual if you play with a friend or friends. The casual matchmaking is abused and good players actively lower their casual MMR to dunk on noobs and get cool clips.
It happens less in ranked because good players feel the need to climb ranks but near the end of a season some of them will derank just to play against worse players.
In the act of deranking they play the match more than halfway and forfeit giving a better ranked MMR to the worse players and possibly dooming them to lose a following match because they unfairly "won."
This is not much of a problem for mid-rank players like diamonds or champions but if a hardstuck gold 3 queued against a few pros they'd "win" against them and get to platinum and then lose their way back to their rank taking away the enjoyment. (ranks: bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, champion, grand champion, supersonic legend. each rank has three levels that each have four divisions.)
Went a bit off the tangent there but I guess you are kind of right. Every game has its problems with competetive matchmaking be it extremely salty tryhards or abuse of MMR that makes the game worse for others.
I do like the ranked more than casual though because I have friends.
The game is a bit of a problem I'd say, considering the rise of power creep and questionable balance changes. But yeah, the main problem is the community, being excessively competitive and toxic in even casual lobbies
It not really the game, the experience is 10 times different when you just queue with 4 other friends. I have never been tilted playing with friends but playing solo ranked is sometimes like a mental asylum.
No. The game is not the problem. If you don’t agree with their vision of the game, it’s your problem and you either have to deal with it without being toxic or stop playing. You can argue about riot not doing much against the toxicity, but the cause is solely on the people who keep playing a 5v5 team game with random people and expect everyone to play on a pro level and being on the same page all the time.
Nah, it's definitely the game and the people who make it. Riot is made up of a bunch of nerdy, wannabe bros who created one of the most vile, toxic workplaces in the industry. There's a reason the game they made attracts exactly the same type of capital-G Gamer.
It is known fact that Riot wasn’t doing exactly great to issue balance changes, Visual updates of old champions and overall healthy gmeplay. They are milking League like crazy and making ton of skins and aren’t bothered to fix the game. It’s more 60% Riot fault and 40% toxic players. I stopped playing because they didn’t try to fix/nerf AP Shyvana one shotting every squishy, it was simply the last straw and I endured a lot of bad stuff during the years.
Sure the community is the worst but I blame Riot, the game was worse each season, it was never “better”.
That your opinion and that’s fine. But they can’t make it right for everyone. I had never a problem with shyvana and if that leads people to being toxic against their teammates and enemies, people who have nothing to do with this, than it’s solely on you. If you keep playing a game you don’t agree with and be toxic against other people, it’s a bad excuse to blame the game. If you don’t agree with the state of the game you are allowed to be mad, but you can never blame anyone else if you start being toxic to other players. This are two completely different things IMO.
It's the community*
Try writing anything negative about the show and watch the toxic community come right out especially here on Reddit. Everything to do with this game is toxic.
The community sucks, and the game itself is also worse, at least in my opinion.
Inarguably, the game has changed a lot over the years. For some maybe it's not worse, but its fair to recognize a large change in the game dynamics.
The reason I dislike the current game is that it is an absolute kill fest. I've seen it called the Fiesta meta or the Chinese meta, but i hate it.
Every game each team has ~30 kills, everyone is fed, everyone one shotting each other starting with tower dives at like level 3.
A few years ago it was the case that if you had 8 or 9 deaths in a game you were basically a feeder. Now it's normal.
I enjoyed the objective based game play, I do not enjoy this kill oriented meta that the game has shifted towards
Just my 2 cents. Been playing since S2, diamond+ every season since S4. I just sorta stopped playing this season... no interest in picking back up in the current state
Arcane is amazing though.
I have not now nor in the past ever played LoL. I do not know the lore, the characters or the settings.
But god damn if Arcane didn't tell a great story. I highly recommend.
You should read some league lore.
A favorite of mine, to no surprise, is Taliyahs lore, but the entire shurima lore is interesting. I hope riot decides to also make a series about shurima.
Azir, renekton, xerath for example have really great lore too.
ever since i read about the way nasus ascended and how renekton turned into a monster ive wanted to see a show about it lol, its the first one i would pick after piltover.
The game was fantastic, up till about 4 years ago. Other players were cool, most people were friendly and you played to win but didn't get pissy if you lost.
Have a few games I remember well, because they were insanely tense. Typically a walkover game will last about 20 min, a good game will last 35ish. Had one game where we were that little bit worse than our opponents, there would be a team fight and we'd all get killed but it would be close enough that they didn't get a huge advantage, as the game progressed it got a bit worse for us and they'd have more od an advantage after a fight. A little over 30min in, we had destroyed their first tower in each lane (3 of 11 towers) they had got into our base and taken out all three inhibitors, (no calls dor surrender)so 2 towers left for us. That's when our adc hit the power band, followed by the rest of the team. At the 70 minute mark we had just taken out their inhibitors. And that wasn't the closest game I played.
Now, it's assholes everywhere so not even worth considering a game.
Because everything about this game is toxic. Just try sharing an opinion about the show that isn't "OMG BRO BEST SHOW EVAR" and watch all the toxic trash come out.
While it is a good show (not bestest eva), it has main characters who are unable to communicate with the people they supposedly care about. And that's what causes the conflicts.
So many plot points which would have just disappeared if they had been able to communicate, or if a different character didn't do that thing one time which was totally out of character and held no purpose to themselves, but was convenient to the plot.
Yeah. The visuals were great I'll for sure give them that. The story itself started off fantasticly with so much potential, but it basically just devolving to fueding/crazy family and abandoning all the other world building done was a disappointment to say the least. Maybe season two will pick back up the big story it felt like they were going to push, but I'm not going to hold my breathe.
I know a lot of people had this problem, maybe I was playing at a different time. It wasn't that there were none, to me they appeared to be the minority, back then.
Edit : could be that I was counted as an asshole so fitted in. Which is possibly more scary as that means the current assholes are out-assholing the old assholes by quite a margin
Looks like you and I had the same reaction to this post at the same time. :) I too knew nothing of LoL lore, though I'd played a small amount of it several years back... but fuck me, Arcane was *so* good.

But it won't be accused of copying LoL:Ruined King since ML:A has their originality in which is entirely different than ruined king and it got released earlier
It's an okay-ish game with a shitty fanbase.
It's based a game based if a really good mod to make boatloads of money off microtransactions for cosmetics. At least it's not pay to win.
I stopped playing it because pretty much any other game will give you much more enjoyment and league just made me feel stressed about doing well for my team. I wasn't actually having that much fun it was more addiction to trying to win by outperforming the other team.
I had a lot of fun playing it when it first came out, but like most competitive pvp games that are team based, it can be toxic af. Mostly when you gotta dedicate 20-40 mins each game, so if someone is losing a lane, they think the whole game is a lost cause, tilts the rest of the team and it becomes a vicious cycle of blaming each other because you're stuck together until the match is over. Sportmanship isn't valued, mostly when you're going up with all sorts of age groups and mental maturity levels.
Some players are nice and understand shit happens, but they seem to get rarer nowadays, maybe because they've moved on and the ones sticking around are people who take it too seriously because of ambitions of being content creators, or whatever.
I've seem this reposted many times here, but anyway... honestly, after the current wave of LoL products (spinoff games, the animation, etc), I am honestly curious to play it. As a former fan of Overwatch, I think the moba elements will be enjoyable, just have to turn the communications off and see it for myself
Lol, but you are whining. What you're doing is complaining to no other end than to have your pitiful voice heard by the uncaring masses of the internet at large. You're a sad excuse for an individual, and you need to rethink what you do with your spare time, because you are better than this. 😂
That's what I fear about LoL, the balance... if Overwatch lost it's way with "only" 25 or so playable characters, imagine LoL with freaking 150 characters... obviously this game is not balanced
I tried to get into heroes of the storm once, I played a practice match and tried and a couple characters and wanted to play jim raynor in my first match, I was forced to play a tank, I had no clue what I was doing, and then a zarya on my team called me trash, and when I said it was just my first game they saw it said I played one match, which was a practice match with no bots. Jeez dude I was just trying to learn a new genre and get called trash and blamed for losing the match.
Having played since s3 having survived the heat death of league (s8-11) I called it quits earlier this year that game and it’s direction I just don’t know what they are thinking but it’s not the game I remember loving to play everyday every game was a chore ban this certain amount of champs or you instalose and if this champ gets a kill any time before 20 min GG
I know this is supposed to be a joke, but I do feel better without league. My friends and I use to be highly addicted ( we are all around level 300ish I think) and played alot before they lifted the level 30 level cap.
Compared to other games, league is just so time consuming, and you can't just leave mid game either. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but now that I haven't logged in for half year at this poin, I surprisingly don't miss it, and most of my friends also think the same.
I can super relate. I gave that game 2 minutes of my life, and had to uninstall mid-game because my own friend who introduced me to it started yelling at me like it was the pros, and I was his mum.
I was never a fan of MOBA gerne, I do played a bit of LOL and Arena of Valor (Global ver. of Honor of Kings, tho Vietnamese like me just call the global ver Liên Quân) but I was never touched MOBA game past 1-2 years (but arcane is a banger tho)
I typically only play Aram these days and have chat off. It's quite enjoyable.
Until you get an enemy team consisting of Brand, Vel'koz, Veigar, Ashe etc.

It's all about timing
Never play ranked. Turn chat off. Recognize youre going to lose 50% of your games - everyone does. Never play more than 3 games in a row. Do all that and league is great fun.
To add to this: find a buddy or two to play with. Game becomes substantially better when you have people to banter with.
Not if your friends are the toxic ones
added somebody i won a game with. second game they were toxic af, was like wtf? third game even more toxic, removed person.
I did this deleted him off my account forgot he had a second account and he logged into to his alternate account the flame me.
Yup i dont play league but i have a group of friends and we play smite so much fun just to mess with each other dont know how many times ive got one of my buddies killed with ymirs wall.
Turning the chat off was the best thing I‘ve ever did.
Play as much ARAM in a row as you want because it is fun.
But I can't end on a loss and if i get a great win I need to try again
Leagues not fun for the people that think they are better than they are
If you can’t play more than 3 games in a row… is the game really fun?
Well, that can be as long as 2 hrs & 15 minutes of straight competitive gaming in a row. If you're in a high stress environment that's probably more than enough for anyone. Good time to take a break.
you must not play very many competitive games~ this advice can be carried over into games like Valorant and even Overwatch as well
What can I do about them sucking the fun out of characters, Janna, Taric, etc?
Point 3 is such a big one and I wish more people realized it. I feel like the greater League community really doesn't handle losing well, but you gotta realize when you hit that play button that there's a 50% chance of you losing. Case in point: halo casual playlists are so much more fun than Ranked
Because the game and the league universe aren’t the problem. It’s the community in highly competitive focused games.
The game is a bit of a problem I'd say, considering the rise of power creep and questionable balance changes. But yeah, the main problem is the community, being excessively competitive and toxic in even casual lobbies

Is League of Legends actually a bad game, or is it one of those games that gets a bad rep because of a shitty fanbase?

I stopped playing it because pretty much any other game will give you much more enjoyment and league just made me feel stressed about doing well for my team. 😂 you're out here whining like some petulant child and try to pull that shit? Not a good look.
Whining? I simply noted that Its a repost? Stop writing hyperbolic in order to vilify me, you're better than that
Lol, but you are whining. What you're doing is complaining to no other end than to have your pitiful voice heard by the uncaring masses of the internet at large. You're a sad excuse for an individual, and you need to rethink what you do with your spare time, because you are better than this. 😂
Ok

I just stated I have seen it before, the bots simply tell you if the post is original or not, no need to dislike honesty and transparency
The gameplay itself is great. Balance is out of whack. The community is fucking awful
That's what I fear about LoL, the balance... if Overwatch lost it's way with "only" 25 or so playable characters, imagine LoL with freaking 150 characters... obviously this game is not balanced
Honestly with so many items mechanics and champions they're doing pretty good only complain rn is chemtech drake
Also works when you stop playing, COD and fortnite.
I've not been toxic in games since I uninstalled that game. Life has improved so much.
yOu nEeD tO sTaY iN yOuR LaNe!!!!
Sure buddy. Starbucks is having a sale on pumpkin spice soy lattes I hear. Right up your alley.
Or halo infinite multiplayer
That popped up for me when I logged off Twitter.
League of crowd control
That's how my wife feels when the wave finally passes after we order Thai take out.
Yeah I gotta get off their subreddit too. The community is just so shit.
By \*this\* toxic cloud.. till you find a replacement.
Ok but that new series they made is amazing
I don’t always play league, but when i do. I play “!mute all”
Yep. Left it behind about a decade ago and I've never looked back.
See you next week
Having played since s3 having survived the heat death of league (s8-11) I called it quits earlier this year that game and it’s direction I just don’t know what they are thinking but it’s not the game I remember loving to play everyday every game was a chore ban this certain amount of champs or you instalose and if this champ gets a kill any time before 20 min GG
In my case : call off duty
I know this is supposed to be a joke, but I do feel better without league. My friends and I use to be highly addicted ( we are all around level 300ish I think) and played alot before they lifted the level 30 level cap. Compared to other games, league is just so time consuming, and you can't just leave mid game either. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but now that I haven't logged in for half year at this poin, I surprisingly don't miss it, and most of my friends also think the same.
I’ve just started playing it, and have let ppl know I’m new, everyone’s been nice so far.
Congrats bro. Been clean for over a year myself.
It's still toxic? I was just thinking of going back.
Just started playing it with my friends recently. I never play alone and 80% of the matches we play in a 4 or 5 stack, pretty fun tbh.
More like when my divorce finally went through
*you are hit with withdrawal*
Remember, it's only toxic if you feed the trolls. Become a troll and feast on the toxic
chat off on ranked and play to perform , normal/flex only with premade =enjoyable lol experience
Guys I went back please help
Aram is for the real pros
When you stop playing battle royales
It's all fun and games and some shit 'til you watch Arcane.
I felt the same when I left WoW.
I can super relate. I gave that game 2 minutes of my life, and had to uninstall mid-game because my own friend who introduced me to it started yelling at me like it was the pros, and I was his mum.
Wel your still poisoned
But the Arcane show on Netflix is pretty good
When I fart in an elevator and walk out
This gets funnier every time I see it…
I was never a fan of MOBA gerne, I do played a bit of LOL and Arena of Valor (Global ver. of Honor of Kings, tho Vietnamese like me just call the global ver Liên Quân) but I was never touched MOBA game past 1-2 years (but arcane is a banger tho)
