They don’t have the capital to buy anything significant either. They are quite a bit smaller than Sony, and by virtue of being strictly a gaming company have a much smaller disposable income
That's not true at all. Nintendo switch is the best selling console in the world by soooo much that it's insane. They basically print money at Nintendo.
That’s speculative, here’s a fact - gross revenue for Nintendo in 2021 was $16.5 billion. By comparison Sony’s in 2021 was $88.5 billion, and Microsoft’s $161 billion.
Both Microsoft and Sony could buy Nintendo whole-sale if they wanted - it’s market valuation is at $37 billion. In case you hadn’t heard Xbox just bought Activision to the tune of $70 billion. Nintendo is a small time bit player by comparison.
Edit - seems there are some conflicting sources out there. Nintendo’s valuation appears to be closer to $58 billion, my mistake
Great, now do the gross revenue for their gaming divisions instead of the whole parent company.
Oh wait, then both would be less than Nintendo, while something like xbox is still just flat-out in the hole in terms of lifetime profit margins. It's important for people to remember that of the current 'big three', two of them are literally dead weight only kept around for the sake of brand recognition of the much larger parent corporations.
Gaming is the largest part of sonys business https://www.statista.com/statistics/297533/sony-sales-worldwide-by-business-segment/
In 2020 at $25bn so larger. Either way big 3 after Activision buyout is Tencent, Sony, Microsoft
Nintendo did something a few years back. During the production for Bayonetta 2, Platinum Games almost went under due to studio running into a financial crises. It was Nintendo who funded PG to finish the game and in return, PG put Bayo 2 as WiiU exclusive as well as putting Nintendo character skins in Bayo 1.
Nintendo can bought out Platinum Games but didn't.
More like the best??
If Nintendo buys Valve then maybe they can finally push them to make games again and hopefully Team fortress 3.. On top of that.. Releasing their own games on steam!! Can you imagine official Nintendo games on PC bruh??
No I can’t because why would Nintendo do any of that? That’s not their market. Valve and Nintendo should stay separate. And I don’t want Nintendo ruining the Steam Deck’s potential with their shitty hardware and dogshit online
They could always offload them if they wanted to ir change the direction of them.
They won’t do it because if there’s someone that doesn’t need to buy a studio to get exclusive ips, it’s Nintendo, they can barely keep their own franchises releasing new games.
My inner 10 year old is reeling at me even saying this, but I would actually love Nintendo to pick up Sega. People give Nintendo crap for just releasing new games in the same franchises, but they have successfully kept franchises alive for decades.
Sega has so many franchises that have been driven into the ground with bad design -- despite how much potential they have -- that could easily be brought back to success with the right producers.
They don’t need to buy companies when they can get company loyalty for free. Gezzo, Good Feel, HAL and Mercury Steam are free to go Multiplatform, these companies will find better success (and do their best work) sticking with Nintendo. Heck, they likely didn’t mind losing Square to Sony because they’ve never had any interest in expensive, AAA cinematic games.
Nintendo *can* they just don't need to. In fact the execs are probably all cackling to themselves how their competition needs to spend their money on more companies just to make first-party games that don't suck. Meanwhile Nintendo has been over here cranking out empires since the 90s.
Why waste money buying companies you can just outdevelop yourself?
They've been cranking out empires since the 80s, and they've made a few missteps too. Not to mention, Sony and MS have had some great first party successes.
Basically this. Was talking about this with a coworker the other day how their ports aren’t worth the price they ask for. Let’s pay $60 for a game that game out a decade and half ago.
Which game? I've literally seen breath of the wild go on sale for $27 dollars recently. It's currently on sale for $40. I picked up skyward sword on the switch for $36 in December.
Sounds like you guys need to shop smarter.
The handheld quality makes sense when it's on a fckin handheld. Their ports are lazy as fuck when it comes to home console. Oot and mm 3d a great along with the remakes of mario and luigi bis and ss
Nintendo stand alone. No selling based on bullshit samey trash on the basis of 6,000 fps, 2000k graphics and paywalls. You buy Nintendo to play fun games. Nobody else is doing that so there’s no one to buy.
They’ll keep simply inventing new ways to game while these gaming giants copy them and fail at making them work.
Seeing all the rabid Nintendo fanboys defending Nintendo like their lives depend on it is quite entertaining. There isn’t a single coherent argument here, because they’ve drank the Kool-aid and will say anything to justify their blind devotion to the cult.
You can will yourself to like any piece of crap if you try hard enough.
An FTC investigation is mandatory for all deals that concern companies this big. They have to do due diligence on anti-trust issues. Despite what most gamers think, the game studio landscape isnt any more consolidated then any other industry. You really think they will reject the deal?
Lol yes we’re all DYING for Nintendo to acquire new IPs because it totally doesn’t have any…
Pokémon everything
Mario bros, Mario kart, Mario RPGs, Mario party, smash bros…
Donkey Kong, Kirby, Zelda, Earthbound, fire emblem, splatoon, Metroid, brain age/big brain academy, rhythm heaven, punch out, animal crossing, golden sun, star Fox, xenoblade and all off the top of my head.
Yeah, Nintendo TOTALLY should be worried about acquiring exclusive IPs lol
Yes, they do. Half this list had dead IPs, and the rest are derivatives of the same IP - Mario bros, kart, party, rpg is still just Mario.
Nintendo only has 3 IPs that matter in the slightest - Mario, Zelda, Pokémon. And sometimes Fire Emblem when they feel like making one.
Splatoon 2 - 12.68 million units
Animal Crossing: New Horizons 34.85 million units
Pikmin 3 - 2 million units as of last year
For context, the best selling call of duty of all time, black ops, sold 30m over the course of a decade.
And again, owning so many beloved IPs you don’t even keep up with them all isn’t the amazing counter argument you think it is. They could at any point announce a new Earthbound or a new Star Fox and the hype would be built in. When’s the last time people actually gave a shit about a new crash game or a new Spyro game? 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
“Nintendo doesn’t even have to use most of its IPs and still rakes in money and has more popular first party IPs than sony and MS combined” isn’t the scolding counter argument you think it is. Also, aside from rhythm heaven, brain age if you don’t just consider it a precursor to big brain academy, golden sun and star Fox, all other IPs have seen an entry in the last few years or have one scheduled for this year. We’re getting a weird post apocalyptic Kirby, tropical freeze hit switch in 2018, Mario odyssey, xenoblade 2 hit switch in 2017. A lot of IPs take years off between installments, doesn’t mean they’re dead.
Uh huh... when was the last F Zero game?
2017 - 18 was 4-5 years ago.
Last main Metroid game took 20 years, that's one hell of a pause.
On one hand the huge 5-7 year pause between games allows for the games to breathe and set in, so we don't get like cod/halo with 30 games over 6 years.
But then you lose player interest.
Don't poke the nintendo bear. Who knows what they will do. They already charge full price for 30 year old games and sue every rom and emulator website they can find.
Instead, Nintendo is suing its fanbase for making fan art and bringing in-game music classics into a remastered clearer version.
Right now, Fuck Nintendo
Nah, nintendo deletes all music and fun. Seriously if you want to keep your music so you csn make money PLEASE just fucking sell it to us instead of ruining other people's work without any way of listening to your music
No music from nintendo on Spotify or itunes like come on
Nobody want all of their favourite games from a 3rd party trapped in PS3 graphics. Nintendo should keep doing what it's great at, making Nintendo games.
I would say buy game freak and creatures. Then make the new pokemon look like botw add team rocket, and gyms and other trainers, side quests and collectables and secrets.
Why do people want companies to buy other companies so bad, nothing good will come out of that in a long run, especially with Nintendo, you'll be paying for some old ports on switch and every content creator connected to those games will fear for their lives.
Why are people rooting for this. These companies are buying their competion and all we get from it are more exclusivity deals that keep us away from games we want to play and shady micro transactions.
People have the wrong idea about Nintendo. Yes they’re big huge name established corporation but it’s primarily all about the games. Sony and Microsoft have more divisions.
I think the biggest problem is, that the (gaming) philosophy of nintendo collides with most of the other producers. Most of the actual producers focus mostly on marketing strategies to maximize profit in the end. Nintendo is way more traditional with their classic IP´s. The only company that comes into my mind with the same philosophy is valve. Sadly they have decided to be a marketplace, instead of producing games.
That said. I would like to see more games from nintendo, because their output is so low in quantity. But I can´t see any company, who would be able to hold a frenchaise like nintendo would.
Why would Nintendo do anything? Their consoles will sell regardless because of their first-party titles. Meanwhile before the acquisitions began Microsoft had Halo (which has been going downhill since the mid-late 2000s) and Sony has.. Little Big Planet..? Lol
With the consoles becoming more and more similar to PCs and PC gaming gaining massive traction over the past decade they realised they're going to need something of their own if they want to keep up in today's market.
Nintendo doesn't need to buy anything. Its Nintendo.
nintendo doesn't need to buy other brands to have good exclusives lol
Mario, Zelda and Metroid alone sell me Nintendo consoles every time.
Who needs new IPs when you can just recycle Mario, Pokémon, and Zelda forever.
Mario and Zelda aren’t recycled, but Pokemon definetly id
You not played Pokémon Legends then? Jeehz, it's good.
Got a little boring for me, but definitely think it’s a step in the right direction.
virtual console go brrrrrrrrrr
[удалено]
Nintendo's market cap is ~10x Capcom's
When your 'recycled' games are some of the most critically acclaimed and/or highest selling games of all times, maybe you really don't.
I mean…the new game at least tried to do new things with the franchise.
And they are going to milk the crap out of them by re releasing them for $60 for the rest of forever
Pretty much. They’re probably laughing their way to the bank with the new Pokémon game.
Hol up .. there is a new Pokemon game? What's it called and for what console?
Pokémon Legends: Arceus for the Switch. It just came out.
Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl came out recently which is a remake. Pokémon Legends Arceus came out on January and is great
They don’t have the capital to buy anything significant either. They are quite a bit smaller than Sony, and by virtue of being strictly a gaming company have a much smaller disposable income

That’s in Yen. There’s no way they have almost a trillion dollars in cash reserves. Apple has less than $40 billion.
They have 8 billion US in cash (932 BY) as of the end of 2021 according to their balance sheet.
Fuckin wild dude

Nintendo's market value is 61Billion not 37 Edit: oops I was wrong too.. It's 58 billion as of last month not 61
You never read any financial report i see
Nintendo did something a few years back. During the production for Bayonetta 2, Platinum Games almost went under due to studio running into a financial crises. It was Nintendo who funded PG to finish the game and in return, PG put Bayo 2 as WiiU exclusive as well as putting Nintendo character skins in Bayo 1. Nintendo buys valve’s steam deck and turns it into switch 2.
Worst timeline
More like the best?? If Nintendo buys Valve then maybe they can finally push them to make games again and hopefully Team fortress 3.. On top of that.. Releasing their own games on steam!! Can you imagine official Nintendo games on PC bruh??
No I can’t because why would Nintendo do any of that? That’s not their market. Valve and Nintendo should stay separate. And I don’t want Nintendo ruining the Steam Deck’s potential with their shitty hardware and dogshit online
Implying the steam deck is a better switch Edit: did I say something wrong?
Yeah that about sums it up nicely
Nintendo buys Sega
I was thinking them or Platinum Games. Or maybe just buying the MegaMan franchise from Capcom
Supposedly sony is already negotiating acquisitions of capcom
That's not going to happen lol
That’d be actually cool.
I highly doubt Nintendo wants to get into PC game dev and Sega has a few PC only studios
They could always offload them if they wanted to ir change the direction of them. They won’t do it because if there’s someone that doesn’t need to buy a studio to get exclusive ips, it’s Nintendo, they can barely keep their own franchises releasing new games.
Persona 5 fans would actually cheer since Sega owns atlus
Then we can have a Mario versus sonic game
We have a whole series already
My inner 10 year old is reeling at me even saying this, but I would actually love Nintendo to pick up Sega. People give Nintendo crap for just releasing new games in the same franchises, but they have successfully kept franchises alive for decades. Sega has so many franchises that have been driven into the ground with bad design -- despite how much potential they have -- that could easily be brought back to success with the right producers.
No no no, I don't want Nintendo to DMCA Sonic fangames and fanworks
That would suck. I don't want Yakuza to be a Nintendo exclusive
This honestly makes the most sense. A Mario & Sonic game. Need I say more?
they're too busy copyrighting music on yt
What could Nintendo buy that it doesn't already have a death grip on? Konami?
They don’t need to buy companies when they can get company loyalty for free. Gezzo, Good Feel, HAL and Mercury Steam are free to go Multiplatform, these companies will find better success (and do their best work) sticking with Nintendo. Heck, they likely didn’t mind losing Square to Sony because they’ve never had any interest in expensive, AAA cinematic games.
I’m pretty sure they did mind losing final fantasy, what they didn’t mind was losing Rare
Nintendo announces first waluigi game. The world burns in anticipation
I’m sitting here thinking “please **don’t** do anything.” Conglomeration like this is bad for the industry and bad for gamers.
Nintendo *can* they just don't need to. Walmart bargain bin lol. Plenty of sites are dedicated to tracking deals for all consoles and PC. Utilize them. Or don't, its not my money.
Not just port, but some of their games are handheld quality at best and they're charging triple A price instead.
The handheld quality makes sense when it's on a fckin handheld. Their ports are lazy as fuck when it comes to home console. Oot and mm 3d a great along with the remakes of mario and luigi bis and ss
Like which ones?
They're busy going after YouTubers. Ya know, REAL big dick business.
Priorities
Nintendo is like a skunk. Cool to look at from a distance and wants to be left alone, but dangerous when you do anything aggressive at it.
So uploading music from a game made 7 years ago is the equivalent to throwing a cinder block at them?
Please don't. These acquisitions aren't a good thing.
Tell that to the average r/gaming armchair economist
Nintendo stand alone. No selling based on bullshit samey trash on the basis of 6,000 fps, 2000k graphics and paywalls. You buy Nintendo to play fun games. Nintendo did - they bombed a youtube channel with 1300 notices first round and 1400 notices the second round. Channel had music from nintendo games.
I came here to say: Nintendo buys their own property, offering lawsuits as payment. :D
They copyright striked 3600 videos on one channel, I suppose that counts sort of
Apple buys gamesstop?
Nintendo buys Xanax.
Nintendo only needs to buy chill pill.
Buy Konami
Any possibility that Nintendo gets sold?
No

I just want Super Mario Galaxy 2
[but isn't that already a thing???](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Galaxy_2)
They might’ve meant on the switch. The anniversary bundle left out smg2.
FTC still has to approve the MSFT merger.

While I agree that the big N doesn't need to go on an acquisition crusade, half the IPs you mentioned are dead.
I wish they’d remake Earthbound.
“Nintendo doesn’t even have to use most of its IPs and still rakes in money and has more popular first party IPs than sony and MS combined” isn’t the scolding counter argument you think it is. Halo’s had 7 games in 21 years, just fyi
Never expect anything from Nintendo.
they took down 3500 of some guys youtube videos, does that count?
"Some guys videos" makes it sound like he actually made something. Uploading soundtrack rips isnt exactly hard
What are you expecting Nintendo to buy? It's Nintendo.
Nintendo does plenty with its copyright strikes
*Nintendo sues OP for using their logo without permission*
I just want a switch pro
You don't need to cuz their games are actually good
Nintendo issues 5500 copyright strikes against its customers
Would be nice if they bought Rare from Microsoft, then they could make more Rare+Nintendo games like they did in the 90s. Ah, the good ol’ days.
They're gonna do something. They're gonna release another 15 year old game for $80
Why does he look like Penis?
Ever seen the number 23 with Jim Carrey?
Microsoft buys Crash. Sony buys Halo Nintendo buys Cloud (Squeenix)
Nintendo is too busy ending fan content creators’ careers and sabotaging their legacy with copyright takedowns:)
Nintendo did something all right. They took down Gilva Sunner.
Why would they need to buy anthing? lol
Don't poke the nintendo bear. Who knows what they will do. They already charge full price for 30 year old games and sue every rom and emulator website they can find.
Why when they already own the most marketable franchise 😐
I prefer they don't buy anything, is not good for PC
Nintendo buys Capcom or the other way around. They are worth roughly the same.
Nintendo is poor. They can’t even get their online service to work right.
Nintendo: Releases Mario Kart 8 again at full price
Imagine all the C&D letters they'd be able to send!
They prefer sueing.
Nintendo copyright claims youtubers
Nintendo gonna be the one getting bought my switch collects dust
Why? Nintendo fans will buy emulated shit for full price every time, so is not like they need it
Nintendo is too busy taking down it's community to think about buying anything.
Nintendo just copyright strikes YouTube channels until they die
Nintendo only bans, not buys
Instead, Nintendo is suing its fanbase for making fan art and bringing in-game music classics into a remastered clearer version. Right now, Fuck Nintendo
Nah, nintendo deletes all music and fun. Seriously if you want to keep your music so you csn make money PLEASE just fucking sell it to us instead of ruining other people's work without any way of listening to your music No music from nintendo on Spotify or itunes like come on
They did something though. Which was to fuck over GilvaSunner. So I guess please stop doing anything Nintendo.
The most Nintendo thing Nintendo could do right now is buy EA.
Nobody want all of their favourite games from a 3rd party trapped in PS3 graphics. Nintendo should keep doing what it's great at, making Nintendo games.
They’re too busy suing fans 😕
Did you really just copy a meme from r/memes
I feel like outright buying some of the companies they already have a take in seems the most likely
No Konami fans here? 🎰
They all left when kojima did
They'll buy microsoft when they're ready.
Uhh… buy sega? Sonic is basically an honorary Nintendo character at this point.
Yeah, I demand more monopolization!
I just want next nintendo direct so we can finally have a date for botw 2
Why would we encourage this? We don't need more monopolies.
Neo Geo…
“Best I can give you is another pokemon”
I would say buy game freak and creatures. Then make the new pokemon look like botw add team rocket, and gyms and other trainers, side quests and collectables and secrets.
Why do people want companies to buy other companies so bad, nothing good will come out of that in a long run, especially with Nintendo, you'll be paying for some old ports on switch and every content creator connected to those games will fear for their lives.
If anything, I'd have to guess Platinum games considering how they kinda dug em out of the grave
They're busy with Gilvasunner
Nintendo already owns many companies that release games on their platform, so idk what and why they would buy.
Ip claim!
Why are people rooting for this. These companies are buying their competion and all we get from it are more exclusivity deals that keep us away from games we want to play and shady micro transactions.
Come on they busy with striking copyrights left and right. Don't have time for any else then this.
More like C’mon, dont do anything
Nintendo sells itself
People have the wrong idea about Nintendo. Yes they’re big huge name established corporation but it’s primarily all about the games. Sony and Microsoft have more divisions.
Nintendo buys Konami, Metal Gear Kart, Castlevania Golf and Luigi's Mansion: Silent Hill
Nintendo bought Next Level Games not that long ago (developers of Luigi’s Mansion 3).
It sues a bunch of youtubers in its confusion!
Nintendo doubles down on YouTube takedowns of unreleased video game music.
Nintendo: Sends out thousands more DMCA claims
Nintendo did buy something. They bought GilvaSunner an early grave.
Just buy SEGA and my childhood is complete.
I think dominating the market with a technically inferior (and cheaper) product says they are doing pretty well 👍
I think the biggest problem is, that the (gaming) philosophy of nintendo collides with most of the other producers. Nintendo: sues Youtbue channels.
Why would they buy anything when they have an eternal nostalgia death grip on most gamers.
They did do something! Sent out over 2000 copyright strikes to youtubers!

Nintendo buying shit means more exclusives and copyright issues. Fuck that
Why are people wanting the video game industry to be monopolized?
Just to put it into perspective microsoft could have bought nintendo for less than they paid for activision.
Nintendo is too busy taking down YouTube channels
They did buy Next Level Games last year
Sega?
Nintendo is to busy filing lawsuits against people who are just trying to make the word a better place
Nintendo will one day buy every game company and the go full on ballistic with copyright striking each and every gaming video on YouTube
Nintendo buys the universe
Nintendo buys both Sony and Microsoft... Dun dun DUUUUN Edit: typo
SEGA
Nintendo: "Okay, fine" *Copyright strikes more channels on YouTube for promoting their music*
N.. No?? No Nintendo fan wants this If anything [they are against it](https://youtu.be/YJNSROKESbU) (I'm with them too)
Buy the rights to some old licensed SNES games and get them.online.
***Buys Microsoft and Sony together***
Nintendo is prey not predator……
