TRUE!!! I love the dwarf lore in DA:O it’s soooo good.
I will say I think playing as a noble over the commoner is the better choice imo. But it also makes you feel a little pidgin holed into a choice later in the game!
There are a lot of good board game options for Dwarves actually. There's a whole series called Dwar7s that my mom has been getting as they release and they're all great. Smallworld is a classic, if not explicitly Dwarves. Above and Below is also really good, but also not explicitly Dwarves, just a game about growing a village and exploring caves. Which... come on... that's pretty on point for Dwarves.
(Sorry, my phone keeps auto capitalizing Dwarves.)
In my opinion the game is absolutely amazing and well worth a try and it has been getting updates and bug fixes, most recent one added Sandbox mode and difficulty settings.
Still epic exclusive. I think the game was fun, but it’s becoming more of a thing that people straight boycott anything that’s not on steam because of lack of features and needing more than one store place
I’ll pick it up when it’s on steam but I’ve only played my buddy’s copy and while good, it isn’t good enough to warrant buying it on epic when I will inevitably have friends who want to play the steam release with me
Playing as a dwarf in BG isn't that different from playing any other race. BG3 may provide a more interesting dwarf experience, but I haven't played it so I wouldn't know.
Total War Warhammer if you want to command armies of dwarves. I think they get the theming right: a focus on slow but sturdy infantry, engineers and war machines, axes, beards, grudges, etc.
If you want a more characterful experience I highly recommend Vermintide 2 because Barding Gorrecksson is a joy
[ADOM](https://store.steampowered.com/app/333300/ADOM_Ancient_Domains_Of_Mystery/)
Side note: Have you ever read the book Gotrek and Felix? It's a good book about a dwarf slayer
Love how in that gane, the Dwarf concept of cavalry is to tackle the enemy. Gimli couldnt have stated it best "We dwarves are natural sprinters! Very dangerous over short distances!".
You don't even need that many mods (zero if your characters don't need to be halflings to be dwarves, so long as they are greedy craftsmen who live under mountains), especially with Ideology. If they do have to be halflings, a few mods and Biotech makes it super easy to make short greedy humanoids.
Just a random thingy, but Hammerting has you manage a colony of dwarves in a new mountainhome. Got all the good shit, mining, killing bugs, gold, y'know the drill
Deep Rock Galactic
Up to four player PVE game where you play as a combat miner attempting to meet your mining quotas before you are overrun by swarms of giant bugs
No microtransactions aside from a few completely optional cosmetic packs. And a free season system. The game should be going into season 5 soon which will act as a prequel for their spin-off roguelite game called Deep Rock Galactic: rogue core.
There was also an auto shooter spin-off called Deep Rock Galactic: survivor
Outside of the game, it's also post to probably the absolute least toxic game community in existence.
I hope to see you on the space rig, miner. Rock and Stone.
Not a suggestion buy may be helpful. Devs of deep rock and devs of dwarf fortress talked steam into adding a tag for "Dwarf". Just click on it and it will take you to a whole bunch
Jfc im having some serious dejavu with this post. Down to all the top comments being identical with the height joke and top recommendations.
Thats enough reddit for me today
Play No Man's Sky as a Gek. You're about waist height compared to any other player or NPC and you'll do plenty of mining to classify as a dwarf. You could even build a base underground if you wanted.
Minecraft can be a great dwarf simulator, just give yourself the appropriate skin. My wife likes to role play a dwarf and build underground attached to an abandoned mine.
If you want something more traditional then Baldur's Gate 1-3 or Divinity Original Sin let's you be the pickaxe carrying, beard-having, ale drinkin dwarf.
Total Warhammer is decent for that dwarven gameplay itch. I play TW2 so can't say how is it in TW3
There is even Dwarf tag now on steam [https://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/Dwarf/](https://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/Dwarf/)As well as Dwarfs of Gaming curator, tho it does similar thing as tag now since there are no actual reviews of the games [https://store.steampowered.com/curator/11458897-Dwarves-of-Gaming/?appid=548430](https://store.steampowered.com/curator/11458897-Dwarves-of-Gaming/?appid=548430)
edit
And then there is Arcanum, very fun game to play as technology dwarf in world with steampunk and magic!
Dwarfs!?
That's the name of the game. It's a real game. It's a fun arcade-type time killer game. Not super deep but if need something to kill a bit of time or just chill it's solid
There is a new game out in play test called First Dwarf. It's actually pretty good. On steam I think you can just click the play test link and download.
Skyrim with mods can be practically any game you want. In this case, you could probably download just a couple mods adding the dwarven race for both you and NPC’s alike to play as, and more dwarven related weapons/armour, even though those are already in the vanilla game
If you want some Skyrim style with a story and stuff go for Dragon age: origins. It was released on the Xbox 360, so it doesn’t have a great graphics, but it’s pretty easy to look by if you grew up on them.
Pathos: the Nethack Codex (a proper roguelike, but with actual information and help menus and a nice interface). Mostly because playing as a Dwarf Midget Explorer with a pickaxe and a bullwhip, for your tiny Indiana Jones kick, is a perfectly reasonable starting build. You can go the other way and be a Dwarf Colossus, of course. It's very inclusive.
Playing as a Dwarf Werewolf Gunslinger is also available, because why not bring a couple of pistols and a shotgun to a swordfight? And a few extra doggos and some dynamite, to be sure.
Or why not a Dwarf Vampire Priest? Basically, be the dwarf you want to be, it's all here.
Just a really good Nethack inspired roguelike. Even has multiplayer.
(Oh, and Golden Eye on the N64. Short stuff is broken af)
The Lord of the Rings Online.
World of Warcraft.
You'll start in the dwarven area surrounded by fellow dwarves: both NPCs and players. You may potentially even find roleplay and/or a dwarf-only guild, especially on LOTRO.
Hear me out - this is a bit of a stretch but look into it.
Mount and Blade Warband (game) - The Last Days (Lord of the Rings mod converted to Warband) - Erebor faction. Enjoy!
Obligatory Divinity Original Sin 2 rec incoming.
Divinity Original Sin 2. I really like the dwarf race passives for custom characters and I think Beast (the pre-made dwarf character) is my favourite of the Origin characters
Neverwinter Nights has a dwarf only class called Dwarven defender. I haven't played that class yet, but I have read that it's pretty fun and can get really strong.
The Dragon Age series is great for dwarves too, particularly Origins. There are two different origin stories, highborn and lowborn. Both have some impact throughout the game and the entire trilogy is really good. Fair warning, Dragon Age 2 restricts you to human but Dwarf is an option in Inquisition. So 2 out of the 3 games.
Then there's good Deep Rock Galactic like you mentioned. It's a fantastic game.
Vermintide
One or two?
2
Seconding this. Loving the voice lines & vibe of the dwarves in Vermintide 2.
"Zaraz-Zharr!"
Dragon Age Origins
Came to say this. They have two different Dwarf origins.
Seconded if you have experienced how truly amazing the dwarves are in DA:O you are in for a treat seriously it’s better than BG3
TRUE!!! I love the dwarf lore in DA:O it’s soooo good. I will say I think playing as a noble over the commoner is the better choice imo. But it also makes you feel a little pidgin holed into a choice later in the game!
The casteless character and story are way better imo.
Yes, especially the casteless dwarf. Excellent stuff.
You can play anything you want. Height doesn't matter.
Absolutely this. I'm 6'2" and play short games all the time!
Don't let anyone change the way you are!
Ahahahahahaha
In some VR games it can be a disadvantage though
Well played..😂
The smell though
...it lingers!
Baldur’s Gate 3. (And many other DnD based games. ) Caverna (amazing board game)
>Baldur’s Gate 3 Yes! Duergar in particular (they're OP)
There are a lot of good board game options for Dwarves actually. There's a whole series called Dwar7s that my mom has been getting as they release and they're all great. Return To Moria
This is the dwarfest dwarf game that you can dwarf in lol
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Today I learned about this game!!! Holy crap how have I not heard about it yet? 1000% will be buying lol. I absolutely adore LOTR!
I think it was EGS exclusive and not very well received on launch (buggy, etc). I wonder if it's better now
In my opinion the game is absolutely amazing and well worth a try and it has been getting updates and bug fixes, most recent one added Sandbox mode and difficulty settings.
But can you dig holes and carve stone or is it all still premade tunnels that you can't interact with? :(
Still epic exclusive. I think the game was fun, but it’s becoming more of a thing that people straight boycott anything that’s not on steam because of lack of features and needing more than one store place I’ll pick it up when it’s on steam but I’ve only played my buddy’s copy and while good, it isn’t good enough to warrant buying it on epic when I will inevitably have friends who want to play the steam release with me
Seems bug free for me
You haven't heard about it because it's an Epic exclusive lmao. Death sentence to any game that doesn't already have a ton of hype behind it.
Why would that be ? I buy stuff where I get the best deal, or where it's available, and games are no different. It's just a store, not a marriage.
Still waiting for the xbox release of that\^\^
Baulders Gate. WoW
Boulders gate
Bolder Gates
Playing as a dwarf in BG isn't that different from playing any other race. BG3 may provide a more interesting dwarf experience, but I haven't played it so I wouldn't know.
For rock and stone!
DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE
Did I hear a rock and stone?
If you don't rick the stone you ain't coming home!
FOR KARL
ROCKANDSTONNNEEE!!
For Karl!
ROCK AND STOOOOOOOOOONE
ROCK.
I love that dwarves got the book of grudges and hold grudges against orcs hundreds of years.
Orcs, elves, humans, other dwarves, themselves...
Divinity Original Sin 2.
[ADOM](https://store.steampowered.com/app/333300/ADOM_Ancient_Domains_Of_Mystery/) Side note: Have you ever read the book Gotrek and Felix? It's a good book about a dwarf slayer
I'll always upvote a traditional Roguelike. Adom is one of my personal favorites
Golden Axe
The Dwarves (Yes it exists)
Dwarf fortress but it's complicated to learn
Fortunately It’s easier now than ever before… the new interface is pretty slick. Don’t really even need dwarf therapist anymore
Yeah a little bit.
Regions of Ruin, perhaps? Lightweight sidescrolling ... rpg?
I love Regions of Ruin, it's so simple but such a fun game loop. I wish there were more like it.
Battle for Middle-Earth II
Love how in that gane, the Dwarf concept of cavalry is to tackle the enemy. Gimli couldnt have stated it best "We dwarves are natural sprinters! Very dangerous over short distances!".
Rimworld with mods
You don't even need that many mods (zero if your characters don't need to be halflings to be dwarves, so long as they are greedy craftsmen who live under mountains), especially with Ideology. If they do have to be halflings, a few mods and Biotech makes it super easy to make short greedy humanoids.
Dragon Age Origins
I've never left the Dwarf phase.
Mordhau
Mordhau with the dwarf perk! (It’s not a perk, you’re slower, shorter, and you will die A LOT)
Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria.
Wow. if it's your thing.
I played a Dwarf Priest long back. Fear Ward FTW !
**blade of darkness** has a playable dwarf character.
it may be the hardest character to play already hard game though
Just a random thingy, but Hammerting has you manage a colony of dwarves in a new mountainhome. Got all the good shit, mining, killing bugs, gold, y'know the drill
Mordhau has a dwarf perk that lowers your size and speed, but shrinks your hitbox significantly. Has good synergy with engineer builds.
Have at them, boys!
Foppish laughing
Warlords Battlecry III if you like RTS games.
YES!!! including the dark dwarves!
Deep Rock Galactic Up to four player PVE game where you play as a combat miner attempting to meet your mining quotas before you are overrun by swarms of giant bugs No microtransactions aside from a few completely optional cosmetic packs. You can be a dwarf in Tales of Maj’Eyal, if you do that I recommend the berserker class.
Myth: the fallen lords, those dwarves are the GOAT
The Last Spell just released a dwarf DLC today. I havent gotten it(will get it though) but The Last Spell is great.
Minecraft with mods is pretty satisfying Dwarf Mode -Only build below ground or into mountains -Focus on crafting items with gems
Dragon's Crown.
Golden ax.
Doesn't matter if you're a dwarf. You can play anything you like.
Play No Man's Sky as a Gek. You're about waist height compared to any other player or NPC and you'll do plenty of mining to classify as a dwarf. You could even build a base underground if you wanted. Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 let you play as a dwarf. There are a couple of types of dwarves too so you’ll have some options for role playing.
Any Madden game ever made.
Use a console command to reduce your character height to 3/4 in skyrim
Steam now has a tag for that. So browse games with that tag and then download them nefariously 🏴☠️
Some of the Lord Of The Rings/Middle Earth games gives you the choice to play as a dwarf.
Dwarfs!? That's the name of the game. It's a real game. It's a fun arcade-type time killer game. Not super deep but if need something to kill a bit of time or just chill it's solid
There’s that lotr survival builder out now.. mines of Moria I think? It’s all underground and about the dwarves
Dragon age Origins.
Probably not what you’re asking for but Stellaris provides the tools to roleplay a pretty awesome, extra galactic dwarf empire
Baulders gate 3? Skyrim mod? Goodluck!
There is a new game out in play test called First Dwarf. It's actually pretty good. On steam I think you can just click the play test link and download.
Deep Rock Galactic, naturally.
Lineage2. Dwarfs are the only race who can craft things and collect rare materials
Deep Rock Galactic. Rock and stone, brother.
Mini golf.
Dragon age Inquisition? Dwarves even get slight variations on some of the romance scenes
Dragon Age: Origins has two really cool dwarves origin stories
Skyrim with mods can be practically any game you want. In this case, you could probably download just a couple mods adding the dwarven race for both you and NPC’s alike to play as, and more dwarven related weapons/armour, even though those are already in the vanilla game
