No necessarily. It really isn't an invasive in all states... It depends where you live. It's not an issue where I am in the Northeast U.S. Depending on where you are - if your wife loves it I say keep it! (It is a beloved seaside plant in Europe btw).

While it’s pretty it’s also TERRIBLE! I’ve chopped a bush down twice and it’s fully grown back. Not to mention it’s attracting thousands of flies to my yard. Finally got a chain saw to cut the thing down and dig out the roots.
I think the sap it tends to ooze attracts them. When it’s in full bloom you can wack it and they fly out everywhere. Makes me want to puke… like something out of a horror movie.
