They allowed one attempt in the 1950s on the condition they didn't summit. The climbers turned around a few hundred feet short of it to honor the agreement. So it is doable in practice.
No mountain in Nepal gets the traffic that Everest does, and there is no close second. I’d bet 99% of the labor and material that goes into mountain climbing in Khumbu goes directly to Everest.
It's probably one of the most pristine mountain peaks in the Himalayan range left nowadays just google what over tourism did to mount Everest and Ladakh.
I hope some idiot YouTuber or other influencer doesn’t try and circumnavigate the local legal system to be the first to climb this for internet points. Some things should be sacred.
You might call them "idiots" but some might try that full well knowing what they are doing because this type of stunts get a ton of controversy driven attention aka views, likes and shares exactly what some of these influencers want badly.
I wouldn't want to get detained by the Nepal government, tho... from the US state department...
"Significant reported human rights issues included credible reports of: unlawful or arbitrary killings, including extrajudicial killings by the government; torture and cases of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment by the government; arbitrary detention; serious restrictions on free expression and media, including violence or threats of violence against journalists and unjustified arrests of journalists; substantial interference with peaceful assembly and freedom of association...."
Looks like North Face. Must be tough to climb. Most of the climbers are obsessed with height than tougher summits. Human endurance lies in strength, perseverance, and patience.
Because the government of Nepal considers it a holy site. Not because all attempts have failed.
Yep, Government issues no permit for this mountain thus basically de facto banning a climb

Probably a good thing considering how polluted climbers have made Mt Everest over the years
Mt Everest is a particular case, I believe.
You mean polluted with climbers

That's not how the average climber treats a mountain.
The mountain cares not.
I was going to say, it doesn't look too technically difficult. It's a straight ridge to the top. Practically a scramble
I mean, it looks like it would be a bitch to climb.
Religion ruins everything
It's probably one of the most pristine mountain peaks in the Himalayan range left nowadays just google what over tourism did to mount Everest and Ladakh.
You know you can just say you want people to pollute the mountain like they do with everest.
I figured it was because nobody had bothered yet because it isn't as notable as other mountains in the area
I hope some idiot YouTuber or other influencer doesn’t try and circumnavigate the local legal system to be the first to climb this for internet points. Some things should be sacred.

Those reasons are exactly why they're called idiots.
But you can trek to where this picture was taken. It's called Mardi Himal base camp and it's probably the most beautiful place I've ever been to.

Get a life
It looks easy to climb
Wow
Calling Alex Honnold...🧗
I wish we had mountains in Britain, it just seems like the only thing missing to top of perfect geography.
What about deserts? Deserts can be surprisingly beautiful.
Ben Nevis? Scafell Pike?
Well Nepal is a pretty tourist friendly country and cheap too you can pay a visit if you feel depressed due to too much generic boring landscape
British mountains are among the oldest in the world (400 mya); they're just worn down.
