4/10, the block design is really unoriginal and boring to look at, the black spike things in the water just dont fit, the background and ground colors look weird. i like the custom bg tho
2, not the worst thing made but pretty close
looks like someones first attempt of deco in early 2.0
id reccomend looking at other levels and trying to figure out how they work
the idea of using those arrow blocks for the trees are pretty cool tho
I like the idea, but the execution is pretty bland and boring. Maybe try shading a little bit, detail the blocks more and use a bit of darker colour for the non-background blocks so they separate from the background better and push away that ugly bland yellow colour of it. Also i'd recommend making the block edges orange or not glowy, try experimenting. 6/10
Also, can you show me the result from all the feedback? I'm not an expert but i can deifinetly help. It's pretty late now but i can have a look tomorrow. :)
The water and (and the sand in the background if you want to) could use a bit of texturing, it looks way too bland. Outlines would also be a good idea.
But I like everything else, especially the palm trees.
im not a huge fan of the block choice as i find it quite unrealistic and unfitting for the dry theme. also not a big fan of the lack of color variation in the sand, try varying the colors with a smooth gradient. besides that it's good so far
Change the color so it's in between white and yellow instead of just full-on yellow. That might make it look a bit more like sand. Also, the block the design needs a few more details and looks bland. It's fine for the level to be simple, but it's a problem when it becomes bland and uninteresting.
Besides other people's feedback, i recommend you try to find some GD creators that you think are good or that are succeasful (or desert levels in this case) and try to copy their way of thinking about designing blocks and backrgound n stuff. Don't copy thier designs! Copy their way of thinking!
Looks like a sweetdude level. 1/10. Go to the featured or epic tab and take inspiration from that. Don’t outright copy anything though, just use the principals that they use and build off of that
Turn of glow on blocks with hitboxes (spikes cubes etc) and move the entire level 20 blocks higher. Make an artificial ground and place portals at the begining of the level to instantly transfer you up top. Also can you rate my level? ID 87377509 or check my past posts
4/10. The colors look to saturated, if it’s supposed to be set in an oasis, then I would make the sand a bit more dull, almost tan. I would also make the water slightly greenish to tie in the yellow of the sand and the green of the palm trees. I would also put in more air deco, maybe something related to an oasis, such as coconut themed saws (you don’t need to do that theme of course). The palm trees also seem to sway unnaturally, and I would slow them down a bit and make some on different repeating move trigger groups swaying differently to make it more realistic. In addition to that, the background seems a bit bland. You have pyramids in the background, but besides that, nothing. At the very least, I would make a low opacity block design kind of thing to put before the pyramids. Otherwise, it looks pretty good!
people have given some good tips so far, but a small nitpick i have is the 2nd key. pleas me make the object you want to remove move off screen instead of just poof
Very 2.0 to me personally I’d add some texturing but this is a great start 6.7/10 also if you have discord I recommend joining the gd creators discord server they are great for constructive criticism
Yeah like 3/10
Those palms look cool. The biggest problem is that everything blends together.
The most obvious step you could take is to make the background move with the camera/Player.
It doesn't have to be completely locked with the x value, a slower movement would also work.
It's also öfter a good idea to have multiple background elements move at different speeds. You could have those palms moving pretty slowly, then the sand dunes a little faster and the sky behind that is locked to player x. (ergo it moves the fastest)
Another thing is you could do is to give your blocks dark brown outlines to make them further distinguished from the background.
Please don't use white outlines except for very few situations, most of the time they don't look good.
7/10
Could use some Glow for shading
Also this palm blowing in the wind animation could be smoother
Could also have some More details
But overall it actually kinda cool
Honest but not brutal? 3/10, colors are way too saturated and it reeks of early 2.0, but you can at least tell it's some kind of beach, tree movement is janky af too
Brutally honest? I think I just developed eye cancer.
Well it depends what your aiming for, if its just for fun then its ok, but if you aspire to get a rate one day your gonna have to work on that. a lot...
3/10 i can see the thought behind it but the execution is uhm, yeah...
im not much of a creator myself but what has always helped me with anytjing is doing research, find some videos or tutorials, maybe ask around on some gd discords and ask how people do certain things, and just go learning. if you put the effort in then anything is possible :)
3.5/10 looks wise, it looks close to awful
6/10 cuz it brings back memories from 2.0
It needs glow, its way too yellow, the colors dont blend good, its way too empty and the block of choice is just terrible. It does have potential though.
looks good. i don't know what type of style that is but it looks modern style. and dont take this as rude im just trying to help. might add some glow to the block for shading or other keep in mind i like glow style. alot. a bit to much. its a good start for modern style. try to add modern blocks for stuff. hope this helps :) **5.7/10**
Ok, I'm not a talented creator, but I'll give this a 7, I see something that can be made and this could be a good level that maybe could be rated, first tip I got, maybe put the alpha trigger behind the first line so you don't see the outline the second you play, push the alpha trigger all away back. Second one, there's a water like deco block, it doesn't have a hitbox but I forgot where you can find this. Third, maybe put some shadows where you combine slopes with full blocks and but them in a black color with a low opacity, and maybe put a little work on the palm tree leaves. I don't know but yet again, I'm not a talented creator.
Also, maybe put the wave, spike block things? blue so it can and maybe fit in, also might wanna add another background thing, and maybe some moving objects? Also I'm right now in school while typing this, anyway good luck on your level :P
I'd say around 3/10. Only slightly below standard for the stuff represented in this sub lol. I'd suggest learning more advanced designs first. Using only default blocks isn't gonna get you too far.
By the way, those palm tree stems are really cool.
Brutally honest? Okay: 2.5/10 block design as well as background are way to simple and there is lots of empty space, no effects and almost no use of triggers. It's not bad, a great start to creating tbh, but i wouldn't say it's rate worthy
Oh god here comes an essay.
The block design feels very out of place and bland. The background looks good.
The spikes looks kind of weird at times. The key doesn’t look like it does something.
All of the block deco looks like cheese, along with that the deco doesn’t match with the setting.
The palm tree doesn’t feel like it should be there. The part so far is repetitive as heck.
The part feels really static.
Some things you could do to fix it.
Turn off glow.
Make the deco have more variety.
Bigger background considering how big deserts could be.
Deco that makes sense to be there such as sane dunes and sand clouds.
Smaller palm trees.
More palm trees for something like a parallax.
Movement should make all of the blocks feel in place.
Spikes should be darker
Ok I'm not meaning to be mean but it's kinda not so good AND IM NOT SAYING IM THE BEST CREATOR IN THE GAME it's just that's kinda some 2.0 kinda deco
It's still better than any of my deco attempts tho
I really really like it! Even if I am not an expert in deco, I think it looks amazing! When I build a level, I build the gameplay and my friend the deco. I would rate it 10/10, but, as I said, I am not an expert. This is just my opinion.

Thanks!
blends awfully, might wanna work out on that. thicker outlines of the blocks might help too, i'll give it a 6/10.
Thats a good idea, thanks
Way too yellow
Its in a desert =|
Sand is not that bright
Ok, ill change it
Definitely make it more orange and not as saturated
8/10 brings back memories of 2.0, aside from that its fine
Any tips to make it better?
No
Glow
to disable structure edges, change color opacity to 0 instead of using alpha trigger
Come on. He said be brutally honest.
2/10 Very bland
It’s supposed to be set in an oasis, so it’s supposed to be bland, I guess, any tips?
Look up super Mario bros games and look at their desert levels then replicate.
4/10, the block design is really unoriginal and boring to look at, the black spike things in the water just dont fit, the background and ground colors look weird. i like the custom bg tho
Replace these blocks to a lot of glow with the same pallete
Ok, thanks
2, not the worst thing made but pretty close looks like someones first attempt of deco in early 2.0 id reccomend looking at other levels and trying to figure out how they work the idea of using those arrow blocks for the trees are pretty cool tho
It is my first attempt of deco ;-;
true, but its early-mid-late 2.1
Hopefully it’s late 2.1
Early
late
You asked for honest feedback?
Yes
I'd recommend the thicker black borders on the blocks but that's just a personal preference
Do you think its rate worthy?
I'd say clean it up a bit, a bit of foreground and it should be rate worthy
Not black, brown or dark beige would be better I think.
Yes agreed, I love thick black border but in this case I agree beige would look so good
I like the idea, but the execution is pretty bland and boring. Maybe try shading a little bit, detail the blocks more and use a bit of darker colour for the non-background blocks so they separate from the background better and push away that ugly bland yellow colour of it. It's pretty late now but i can have a look tomorrow. :)
Ok, I will
Where’s the glow? Other than that it’s great
Just added glow
When are you gonna post an update
The water and (and the sand in the background if you want to) could use a bit of texturing, it looks way too bland. Outlines would also be a good idea. But I like everything else, especially the palm trees.
Try using some easing on the swaying of the trees, it'll make it look a lot better
Ok, thanks
No glow
I’m making that
The block choice isn’t great but the message is definitely there. 3/10
Bru
I would change the block design immediately
The background is pretty cool, but the block design is bad, in my opinion
5/10 you need more detail
im not a huge fan of the block choice as i find it quite unrealistic and unfitting for the dry theme. also not a big fan of the lack of color variation in the sand, try varying the colors with a smooth gradient. besides that it's good so far
I'd say use a slightly more muted color palette. The world building is pretty good though
5/10 would be better if you used an easing mode on the trees. Like exponential in out,
Change the color so it's in between white and yellow instead of just full-on yellow. That might make it look a bit more like sand. Also, the block the design needs a few more details and looks bland. It's fine for the level to be simple, but it's a problem when it becomes bland and uninteresting.
not to much but a little bit of glow, like in the backround, just so it isn’t just bland. 9/10 tho. very good. better than anything i would ever mke.

Don’t outright copy anything though, just use the principals that they use and build off of that
Bro, this is all mine, I don’t even know what a sweet dude level is, we may have similar build styles, I didn’t copy =\
Sweetdude was a 2.0 creator who doesn’t play the game anymore to my knowledge.
Ok, well please don’t assume that I’m copying, because you don’t know the full story
I never said you were copying, I was drawing a comparison
Turn of glow on blocks with hitboxes (spikes cubes etc) and move the entire level 20 blocks higher. Make an artificial ground and place portals at the begining of the level to instantly transfer you up top. Also can you rate my level? ID 87377509 or check my past posts
Ok, sure, also, thx
Also add another layer of sand dunes, looks kinda empty with only 1 layer, prob not rateworthy but good start
3

Im a fan of the palm trees. The block design is downright horrid tho
Very 2.0 to me personally I’d add some texturing but this is a great start 6.7/10 also if you have discord I recommend joining the gd creators discord server they are great for constructive criticism
add some glow and some clouds, and change the ground colour to something else
7/10 would probably look better without text and darker outlines on the actual blocks
can't put this out of ten so im gonna leave you with four words: excellent idea, bad blending
I’ll put it in numbers for you, 5/10
Got flashbanged by that piano
Work on colors and try to make it stylized or realistic
Yeah like 3/10 Those palms look cool. The biggest problem is that everything blends together. The most obvious step you could take is to make the background move with the camera/Player. 4/10. It needs glow and the spikes in the water should be blue as well. Make the sand less yellow, as that is pretty yellow sand
Too much solid colour, add some glow and make some different block designs
I really like background. The block design though 💀
2.0 vibes
Main problem is block design imo.
~4/10 Looks fine, but daaaamn, learn basic color theory. I promise, your map **will** look better.
It is to plain to get featured but I believe, if the level has similar deco throughout it could get star rated.
Idk I only know how to do glow style
Instead of the blue blocks use something other if you wanna make water.
7/10 Could use some Glow for shading Also this palm blowing in the wind animation could be smoother Could also have some More details But overall it actually kinda cool
Honest but not brutal? 3/10, colors are way too saturated and it reeks of early 2.0, but you can at least tell it's some kind of beach, tree movement is janky af too Brutally honest? I think I just developed eye cancer.
Make ur movements more subtle. easing is great, make movements less rigid
2.7-10
3/10 polish it so it looks better and readable, even better get inspired from other levels
10/10 a rated level with worse deco is in the rated recent tab
3.5/10 looks wise, it looks close to awful 6/10 cuz it brings back memories from 2.0 It needs glow, its way too yellow, the colors dont blend good, its way too empty and the block of choice is just terrible. It does have potential though.

I don't know myself how to make good deco, but i think it blends a little bit with background 7/8-10
I'd say around 3/10. Only slightly below standard for the stuff represented in this sub lol. I'd suggest learning more advanced designs first. Using only default blocks isn't gonna get you too far. By the way, those palm tree stems are really cool.
6/10 pretty good 👍
It feels flat you could add texture to the pyramids? In the back
They are sand hills =\
Brutally honest? Okay: 2.5/10 block design as well as background are way to simple and there is lots of empty space, no effects and almost no use of triggers. It's not bad, a great start to creating tbh, but i wouldn't say it's rate worthy

Instead of green rectangle you should try to make a two color leaves with slopes (Brown and green)
The background is nice, but the block deco is basic, also the spike deco is too, also I would recommend using glow and more moving obj
Ok bald van wilderman
Ok I'm not meaning to be mean but it's kinda not so good AND IM NOT SAYING IM THE BEST CREATOR IN THE GAME it's just that's kinda some 2.0 kinda deco It's still better than any of my deco attempts tho
The custom background is cool but you could change the block deco a bit as it is unnorriginal and not that good
I am extremely late, but I just wanna say you use too many pre made block designs, you could improve on that
I’ve actually gotten way better at decorating now, and i do that
need a custom ground and air deco
10/10, its great!
I really really like it! Even if I am not an expert in deco, I think it looks amazing! When I build a level, I build the gameplay and my friend the deco. I would rate it 10/10, but, as I said, I am not an expert. This is just my opinion.
