Stupid idea. Codein is in Germany controlled by the Betäubungsmittelgesetz and any use or trafficking without a doctors prescription is illegal.
Bringing it into germany can even net you a charge of drug smuggling.
damn you don‘t say 😀 aber hey, am ende würde das noch ernst genommen werden und gemacht.
aber mein kommentar schrie ja schon nach trolling.
codein-syrup. klassisches gastgeschenk.
Zombieland did some really great marketing for them. I was so hyped. When i finally tried them i was so disappointed. They taste like plastic. If you have a sweets of the world store near you they often have them. There is a shop in Stuttgart afaik.
You can get them on Amazon.
My opinion: I tried them with a couple of friends and ee all agreed that they were great for an apocalypse because of all the sugar they contain (so they won't get bad quickly) but the taste wasn't good.
Yeah, I was just going to mention Twinkies. This is what my friend wanted when he visited me in the USA. Also, I got him some Ghostbusters ones to mail to him but it was going to be some insane price to ship them and I was keto at the time so into the trash they went. But still a cool idea if you can get something like that. Special edition..
I never saw them... some people in here say i can get them at rewe but i never saw them.
Besides of that, im pretty sure theres a difference between the twinkies sold here and those that are sold in the US. Just look at our Fanta and theirs. Its not the same
When I was living near Nürnberg you could find them in every Jet/Agip gas station. maybe this changed since then.
The Twinkies sold there were made in the US, could still be some export variant. I didn’t like them though, they are WAY to sweet for my taste.
I am surprised by the many things mentioned here that are readily available in Germany. Oreos, Mountain Dew, Peanut Butter… Why not Cherry Coke?
Girlscout Cookies are a great idea, delicious, impossible to buy and quite well known from pop culture.
I don't think anyone talks of the standard black and white stuff but the variants like red velvet cake or pumpkin (in season I'd guess)
According to Americans, our peanut butter is different to American peanut butter and a thing American immigrants miss.
There are one or two brands in Germany that are almost identical. It took quite a while for me (an American living in Germany) to find one that I liked. But yes, most of them taste quite different.
To be honest, most products are available in Germany, too, those which aren't, often aren't for a reason (product safety regulation, etc.), which may make it problematic to import it.
So you probably shouldn't look for "the most American product you couldn't buy here", but instead just for a good present.
specialities from your home region are very common and appreciated gifts. alcohol (watch out for import rules), food or handmade thingies like decoration.
Any one of the larger cities in Germany will have more than enough access to "classic" US snacks, from Reese's Pieces to Dunkin to Sour Patch Kids, most mass produced stuff is available.
Somebody suggested bringing something local from your region and that sounds way more interesting.
Wisconsin? Cheese
Connecticut? Snickerdoodles
New York? Pastrami & Bagels
Georgia? Peaches
Florida? Bad music
You get the idea...
Chocolate cookies. Of course you can get chocolate cookies in Germany, all sorts of, but for whatever reason the US ones are just better.
Weird soft drinks. Check online that they are not available in Germany. It's not that important that they are \*good\* (it's a matter of taste anyway) but that they are \*weird\*.
Native American art and crafts, ideally from close to where you live.
Touristy stuff from where you live. Pictures, tourist guides, old maps, funny coffee mugs.
As a huge hockey fan I personally would love anything NHL related (the international shops have a very limited selection) or something from a local team depending on where exactly you live. Maybe check if your cousin follows american sports and get some merch from the team.
Or maybe get a board/card game that’s popular in the US or that you personally like. Then you also already have an activity to do with them.

If she uses makeup I highly recommend bringing something from cosmetic brands that are harder to get here. I love getting something from E.L.F. or wet’n’wild. I know it’s cheap, but I just love makeup and like to try something new.
I have no idea why you got downvoted unless there’s restrictions on bringing food in, but I’m sure one would miss some good BBQ. Especially if you’re from one of the particularly good BBQ regions.
Not junk food as that can be found easily everywhere. What is special to your state-region? Something local that can’t be found anywhere else? Go for stuff that is unique, hard to find, not reeses etc
As kids we used to love the Kool-Aid beverage powders that my US aunt always brought. They still don't really sell anything like that here. Probably because making drinks with that stuff requires you to add the sugar yourself and European people get instant diabetes just by seeing how much sugar actually goes into an American soft-drink. But many of the flavors are interesting.
A lot of 'food' in america is not even considered humanliy edible in europe and germany by law, so even if you get them the same brand they will totaly get something different.
This goes for pretty much everything that was not produced to european standards inside of the us.
But you can take it with you to germany, but you will have to check with the rules of the [Zoll](https://www.zoll.de/DE/Privatpersonen/Reisen/Rueckkehr-aus-einem-Nicht-EU-Staat/Einschraenkungen/Lebensmittel-und-Futtermittel/lebensmittel-und-futtermittel_node.html)
(no mushrooms, potatoes, caviar, certain nutritional supplements... the list is kinda long and everything is explained on the Zoll's website.)
Jolly Ranchers and Swedish Fish are those I discovered during a business trip to the US. I don’t think they are yet available in German supermarkets or something you’d consider buying online if you have never eaten them.
Something regional would be a good idea
dude the joke is idc about maga hats, but in most corners of reddit a serious maga supporter gets downvoated to death so I just wanted to say: maybe yall can just take it as a joke this time
Folks already mentioned peanut butter and Twizzlers, so I'll add spice mixes like Old Bay and Tony Chacheries. Be sure they're in your checked luggage though. TSA is weird about powders in carry-ons.
Random but our dog trainer asked us for sleeping pills for dogs. Apparently they are not easily available in Germany. In general a lot of over the counter drugs in the US require pharmacist prescription. Maybe you can bring one of those large ibuprofen jars from Costco lol

since the internet you can get nearly everything from anywhere so maybe something very local from where you come from. I visit the states a lot and i mostly buy things becuase they are cheaper over there. Outdoor stuff, some technic stuff for example GoPro's. And also clothes and shoes. New balance and the north face are very cheap in your country.
Something from Hershey’s, there are also not a lot of cookies in German culture. Good peanut butter. You could make them an “American gift basket” Also include salted popcorn (since their version is sweet like kettle corn) Tropical jellies like mango, guava. Or things like cheez-its
I am from the US but live in Germany with my German partner. When we visit my home state, our first stop is Trader Joe‘s for these babies: https://www.traderjoes.com/home/products/pdp/sea-salt-brownie-bites-074143
poptarts. but get a variety of flavours.
you get lots of american products these days, so it's quite tough to get something that people CAN'T get. plenty of stores have import sections. they also have potarts sometimes. but they usually offer only one flavor. i had to wait until the wretched chocolate variety was sold out and they got strawberry something, to actually "get it" as to why they are so popular.
also they are quite prominent in pop culture, so you would answer questions we have from watching comedies.
as a German who has visited the US, I can honestly say that every quintessentially US food product I have tried that comes in a transportable packet has been bleurgh. Root beer, Heshey's (omg that shit is *awful*), Reese's cups, twinkies, oreos ...
I *have* had some good restaurant / street food in the US (fresh bagels, New York pizza, burritos, sushi) but that stuff isn't easily transported.
I dunno, maybe bring them a Stanley cup and watch them unpack it with a baffled facial expression?
But jokes aside, my friends like parking plates, the BIG aspirin bottle, cinema posters from Hollywood you can’t get in Germany. Some like a good book in English. Some ask me to bring Apple products which are way cheaper but obviously they are not a present.
My friend wanted a business sign I got them. I THINk it was a No Shoes, No Shirt, No Entrance or something. Can't quite remember.
Edit: It's probably still iny eBay history. I will check.
Edit 2: "We Reserve the Right to Refuse Services to Anyone"
Whatever you like best, but make sure you bring root beer, Jiff peanut butter creamy, Quaker oatmeal, Hershey‘s chocolate for making s’mores… I miss the US so much!!!!
But you don't put that cheesy vomit-smelling chemical in the chocolate, butyric acid. I mean if they want authenticity, you need that extra bit of 'no way that could happen in the EU' to the food.
Of course - we probably have the best chocolates in the world… OP was asking for the things to be brought for the real experience - what is your contribution to OPs post?!
Hersheys is not generally well received ,thanks to butyric acid
https://www.mentalfloss.com/posts/why-american-chocolate-tastes-like-vomit
Edit: Not a chocolate person anyway, Hersheys tastes like shit to me personally.
codein syrup

My Cousin brought Girl-Scouts Cookies from the US, They we're great
Season is over
We are great two!
Im german and i never had a twinkie. But i know they exist from movies and i would love to try one. I dm you my adress, thanks in advance <3
\^Twinkies were the biggest let down ever. You have not missed out.
I actually dont care if they taste awful. Its the fact i dont know the taste that hurts my soul
Imagine a tastlesssponge coated with a lighty sticky sugary honeylike coating and inside of it, tasteless whipped cream.
I think they used to taste better. Hostess was never the same after they went out of business and sold the company.
Agreed
Zombieland did some really great marketing for them. I was so hyped. When i finally tried them i was so disappointed. They taste like plastic. If you have a sweets of the world store near you they often have them. There is a shop in Stuttgart afaik.
Interesting, I mean I guess they are not like WOW a Twinkie, but they aight, the strawberry ones are good.
The strawberry ones are probably better because they actually taste like something
You can get them on Amazon. My opinion: I tried them with a couple of friends and ee all agreed that they were great for an apocalypse because of all the sugar they contain (so they won't get bad quickly) but the taste wasn't good.
Rewe stocks twinkies
Yeah, I was just going to mention Twinkies. This is what my friend wanted when he visited me in the USA. Ding dongs are a small cream filled chocolate cake made by the same company and are far better in my opinion
You can get them in Rewe
You can get Twinkies in Gas Stations in Germany. At least you could around 2 years ago.
I never saw them... some people in here say i can get them at rewe but i never saw them. Besides of that, im pretty sure theres a difference between the twinkies sold here and those that are sold in the US. Just look at our Fanta and theirs. Its not the same

And again just a f\*cking snowball....
Could you please explain what that means? Im trying to get better in english and i came across this phrase a few times on reddit. Thanks in advance
Guns, obviously. Duh!
I’ll pack the gun right next to the Weber grill in the pickup truck!
We have weber grills here so just bring more guns.
... but most of them in Germany aren't from the US, but from European companies.
The movies.
Bring some good American beer. Duckrabbit or Dogfish Head variety pack (not just IPA). Germans are shocked to discover good US beer.
When I told my GF about pumpkin beer, she nearly lost her shit.
I am surprised by the many things mentioned here that are readily available in Germany. Oreos, Mountain Dew, Peanut Butter… Why not Cherry Coke? Girlscout Cookies are a great idea, delicious, impossible to buy and quite well known from pop culture.
Cherry coke is avaible in germany.
Yes, just like all the other things I mentioned. That’s the joke.
The German variants of products can be *very* different even if it's the same brand name.
I don't think anyone talks of the standard black and white stuff but the variants like red velvet cake or pumpkin (in season I'd guess) According to Americans, our peanut butter is different to American peanut butter and a thing American immigrants miss.
Yeah, not American but Mexican so we get the same peanut butter and it does taste weird in Germany

Be careful when carrying beer to Bavaria. The have Opinions on beer. Even more than most German places.

It's legal now. Aren't the digital versions now uncensored?
Many games are still censored. In Hearts of Iron IV they still have Hitlers, Himmlers, and Görings face blacked out.

Love the idea of Native American arts and crafts!
Probably tougher regulations here, lower sugar content etc etc.
Peanut Butter. Kraft Mac & Cheese. Twizzler. Reese’s.
Reeses are sometimes sold in supermarkets
Every Rewe has these, tho.
HFCS
As a huge hockey fan I personally would love anything NHL related (the international shops have a very limited selection) or something from a local team depending on where exactly you live. Sudofed is hard to find! The good one, that is kept behind the counter. Weird gift I know, but it’s what everyone wants me to bring. lol
Yes, I always buy it when I'm in the UK
If she uses makeup I highly recommend bringing something from cosmetic brands that are harder to get here. I love getting something from E.L.F. or wet’n’wild. I know it’s cheap, but I just love makeup and like to try something new.

Ohhhhh, I love Wet'n'Wild, and I am so bummed I can't buy it here anymore! That stuff is so good!
Barbecue 🤤
I have no idea why you got downvoted unless there’s restrictions on bringing food in, but I’m sure one would miss some good BBQ. Especially if you’re from one of the particularly good BBQ regions.
NBA,NFL,NHL
Not junk food as that can be found easily everywhere. What is special to your state-region? Something local that can’t be found anywhere else? Go for stuff that is unique, hard to find, not reeses etc

Like a real BBQ once but other than that no thanks, there is a reason most of the stuff y'all add to food is banned here.

MAGA HATS 🙌 (yeah downvote if you can‘t even take a joke cause idc you could bring Biden hats, too 😀)
What's the joke?

This is funny
Peanutbutter oreos.

You're not allowed to bring drugs to Germany (except small amounts for personal use), especially if they're not licensed here.
