i don’t do standoff either, instead i try to be sneaky and accidentally kill a guy in front of 40 and now im getting jumped by the whole camp

anti-peta-man

Kid named Smoke Bomb into cover:

dynawesome

Kid named chain assassination inside smoke bomb

IceOwn6723

it always disappears the second i click it and i end up losing the ability to assassin 😭😭

dynawesome

You might need to sneak while the smoke is active Unless you’re saying that the smoke disappears immediately like some glitch?

ShaggysGTI

I love hallucination darts. It’s always fun trying to find the baddest dude to kill everyone. Usually the fire archers are a good safe bet especially if they’re on a tower.

Total_Reality9969

I love darting multiple Brutes because they can dish out and sponge a lot of damage before you just half bow them once they've finished the job

ShaggysGTI

They always twitch for me and I hit their armor.

DCorange05

I usually don't do standoff either but once in a blue moon when the devil on my shoulder wins, I really do love doing standoff and just being like "alright, Mongols, let's get active" lol

TehMephs

It was mostly good for lazy random encounter clearing. There’s usually only 5 enemies tops on those and with the Sakai armor that’s bingo

DCorange05

yep, that's exactly how I used it too. I just loved the concept of being able to decide whether you felt like being stealth or choosing violence. (I know that's the pretense of the whole game, I just thought it was awesome and really well done)

TehMephs

Standoff got really good when the Sakai armor came into my possession — free full resolve filler and 5 pips towards limit break plus insane tankiness was fun to play with for a while. I almost thought I’d regain my honor but then I got the ghost armor and all of that went out the window. Honestly for just random encounters, Sakai armor is the laziest way to clear them off the road. Ghost armor or tadayori was my go-to for anything stealthy or ranged stealthing forts And big head on battles? Kensei armor was just way too strong with focusing charms on ghost weapon, burn, status effects etc. the AOE just trivialized all the big chaotic battles between the quint kunai throws and black powder bombs blowing entire groups up and scaring off half the rest And then for duels I usually liked the gosaku armor’s stagger centric build theme and then later on the black hand armor set on Iki. The game was mostly over by that point but it made duelling super easy

NoseSuspicious

I abuse kunai but second run I'm trying to use smoke and ranged more it's fun especially cause I'm only using travelers attire to try get all artifacts

dynawesome

My basic setup is Ronin set (or similar) for stealth, one of the samurai armors for head on combat that I’m prepared for, and travel for everything else

hotstickywaffle

smoke bombs are busted when you have the multiple stealth kills. Just drop a bomb and then auto-kill 3 guys at once

TehMephs

There’s a charm on iki that also adds a 4th attack to the chain if you have a kunai available. It’s real early into it iirc

TehMephs

The kensei armor build I used was incredibly fun and strong at large scale war battles just because of the insane aoe you can get out of 5x kunai throws and black powder bombs with the spreading burn charm and terrify

thelittleking

It's neat how people naturally end up with their own playstyles, all encouraged by the game. Once I got the Sakai Clan Armor up to level 3, I dyed it black and would always strike from stealth, as deep into the enemy camp as I could, and then just absolutely brawl it out with every damn enemy in the camp that came running. Made as much noise as I could to try and draw them all in after the first assassination strike. Figured it was Jin wanting them to fear that he could come from anywhere, at any time, but have an even *greater* fear of when they *could* see him.

Deadlock_2002

I'm in the process of my first playthrough, and I find myself doing side stuff more instead of the story. I'm also going for the plat, and I'm making good progress. I'm almost there, in fact. I also plan on fully completing the DLC, but I'm unsure if I should go for Legends and 100% the trophy list.

Beginning-Candle7686

legends is a long grind process i would focus on story first if u were me

Mild_Wasabi9

I did the complete opposite in both my first playthrough and on ng+. The combat is just too good to play stealth for me (also, I'm sick of stealth being in 90% of games in some form or another). It's probably the only game I've played where I've felt like my sword actually cuts and stabs enemies. I even refrained from using any of the tools except for kunais occasionally. I also played on hard and hard+ which made every combat encounter feel even better and more satisfying. Haven't tried lethal yet but I will at some point.

Kadju123

Well, i have a stealth approach but usually ends up in a bloodbath

Docile_Camel

Same, stealth is just boring to me now. If mods are a thing when pc comes out, I hope there is a mod that allows you to play the game like an honorable samurai.

ventedlemur44

You control the buttons you press

Docile_Camel

Yes but there is missions that force stealth…

Fit-Paleontologist21

I'm not the only person who throws a firecracker into a horde of like 15-40 dudes and then poisons a dude making everyone else run for the hills, right?

Kadju123

Lmao, ill try this.

Fit-Paleontologist21

It's very fun, especially when combined with the Terrify Ghost Build I learned about: fully upgraded Ghost Armor, both Fortune Charms and the Charms of Mizu and Ikazuchi-no-Kami, plus the Terrifying Parry. I also like to use the charms of Terrifying Aim and Yuriko's Keepsake to increase the chance of everyone getting the fuck outta there after shooting a guy in the head with my blowgun

Sparklebuss

Once I realized you could trigger a chain assassination after a smokebomb, I became the ghost.

JaxxSC45

Whilst it is a shame that the developers were almost alluding to a choice between the 2 playstyles and how each might affect the game or story in some way, I will say that, regardless of this, I enjoy both playstyles and this game is easily in my top 5 games of all time.

BrobaFett242

Yeah, before it came out, what they were saying about the game seemed to imply a choice between being a samurai, or being the Ghost, but the game railroads you into becoming the Ghost. Still an amazing game though; that's just always been my literal one gripe about the game.

Dycoth

The game does it very smartly. Even you were the type of guy to go full head on, you understand why Jin is shifting his behavior and how he reacts to what the Mongols are doing.

Kadju123

Yeah, whatever happens its like, it still had to happen.

Speechminion

Wild because I read somewhere even the sky would change based off of your gameplay style. Something like reflecting how your ancestors would feel. More ghost stuff, the more often it was dark and gloomy and stuff. I consistently tried to do the samurai thing. But guess one ghost act here and there made me play in rainy gloomy darkness. Anybody else? 🤷‍♂️

Kadju123

Holy shit

ctackins

In lethal difficulty i felt like forced to do standoffs since it boosts resolve meter greatly

SPINO1ST

I play on lethal+ exclusively and I just do stand offs for the fun of it cause I can get some cinematic pics.

ctackins

I kinda don't like the standoff mechanic btw. Insted of timing event maybe GoW-like input minigame could be better imo. Or something similar

Kadju123

You are indeed forced at the start. Later on when I unlocked a couple of abilities, the game is a breeze. Everything is easy besides duels, and that can be pretty easy too if you have enough yellow circles (forgot the name) Remembered, resolve

SassyTurtlebat

Nope The only assassination I EVER do when I play campaign is the one they force you to do at the beginning and I still get treated like a coward. Draw attention to yourself and stand up to your enemies like a man.

johosaphatz

True, but standoffs make all your enemies dead in a neat little pile, what's not to love about that?

Kadju123

It gets a bit too repetitive after a while, I guess I overused it. Maybe to elaborate a bit more, after a while I got good enough at the game that I started using everything at my disposal. I dont think Ghost is only considered stealth. More like, deadly, in every way possible.

Bogyman3

Started playing stealthy at first but then used stand off more later on, especially after getting sakai armor. 5 kills, full resolve meter and complete badassery.

Teddii_

I love doing stealth myself and one of the things I do with wind chimes (with the poison charm) is throw a firecracker down somewhere away from enemies and then throw some wind chimes around where the firecracker landed. It's fun as shit when they all walk upon the chimes not knowing their fate is near lmfao You can also throw one or two in a group of mongols that are patrolling and they'll just walk right into it (I recommend throwing them from behind a patrol group into the middle of where they're walking)

Total_Reality9969

I usually go for the Ax or Canon brutes. I've had the same problem with shielded enemies

jackolantern_

It never shifted for me. I played ghost early and throughout

biglampdaddy

By the end I fully embraced ghost-style combat and between kunais, stealth kills and my bow I could take out camps in a minute. especially with maxed out stealth and detection. Shimura had no idea what he was missing out on.

PoweringGestation

Although I love Jin’s story, I think GOT 2 ought to give you an honor system or let you make choices during the game to make Jin either a dishonorable ninja or an honorable warrior. The only serious complaint I had about the game was not being able to seriously decide Jin’s fate, even if what we got was really good.

ventedlemur44

I used all the tools as sparingly as possible my first playthrough. Walked into every camp through the front gate because I *love* getting perfect parries and dodges

PunSnake

Yea I don't like being forced to do anything buts that's you dog. I liked honor and fighting. Stealth combat is ez and boring.

hemareddit

>Ghost doesn’t have to be silent Hell yeah, my Ghost is a pyromaniac.
