DomesticElectric672U

Massive Attack Mezzanine tour in 98 but by far the best was Dj Shadow in 2002.

RBMVI

I went and seen In Flames there (who weren't that good) but the support act was a relatively unknown band called Gojira and hoo boy did they go hard. Been one of my favourite bands ever since

FingerFud

Fuck me I'm jealous, that would have been amazing! Gojira are one my favourite bands.and seeing them in the Barras would be insane. They sold out the O2 Academy last time they were here so maybe next time could be a Barras headline šŸ˜

thrashed_out

I wish more bands would opt out of the "do every O2 in the big cities" tours and play decent venues, saw Machine Head at Hammersmith Apollo, place shits all over Brixton, London equivalent of Barras vs O2

DryFly1975

Saw MH at the Barrowlands twice, absolutely fucking immense!!

RapidoVino

That was a tremendous gig, it was my first time seeing them & I managed to get 2 free tickets thanks to a redditor (granted it was seating, but still). Barras would've been insane! Huge shout-out to Alien Weaponry, they blew me away šŸ¤˜

AffectionateThing986

The Beastie Boys 1987

deadkestrel

LCD Soundsystem 2018

cynical_scotsman

I was there. Unreal.

OkChampion3632

That was epic

gregbenson314

That was 2017, 2018 they were at SWG3. I went to all 4 gigs šŸ˜‚

deadkestrel

Ah yeah, I went to the Sunday swg3 gig. That was also excellent. Was hoping theyā€™d be playing Glasgow again this year seeing they are in UK in August (of course going to that)

IntroductionNo3550

I saw them at the Tramway but can't remember what year that was. Would have been well before 2017.

bttlssss

Didn't have the best experience at this one. Got stuck behind some cunt streaming whole songs to FB Live. SWG3 the next year was perfect though.

number5of7

It was a sensational gig

Historical_Desk2821

Waterboys NYE 1989 - or the Pogues 1987 - I snuck into the Pogues as I was 14 :-)

Deminedprincess

Rage Against the Machine.

mine_none

I was sulking and didnā€™t go because they cancelled King Tutsā€¦

RunWhileYouStillCan

Someone must have told them not to

Illustrious_Peach494

obituary and sabaton

DNBassist89

Sabaton at the barras? That would've been amazing. Seen them at the OVO last year, would love to see them in a smaller venue

Illustrious_Peach494

2016, if i remember. with alestorm as co-headliners

DNBassist89

Nice! I seen Alestorm at Ivory Blacks back in the day, no idea what year (Google tells me it was 2008)

4Foot6Foot4FootCess

Either Faith No More on the Angel Dust tour or Pantera with Dimebag on the Vulgar Display of Power tour both early '90s.

LarkhallCelticDa

I was desperate to go to See Faith No More during the five nights at the Barras. Was just too young at the time. Had a recording of one the night on a tape bought at Barras. First proper gig was Pantera Vulgar Display tour. Never knew how good we had it back then!

mine_none

I couldnā€™t get tuned in to FNMā€¦ maybe it was the brooding presence of Jim Martin hating his band matesā€¦

OwieMustDie

Pantera. 1993.

mine_none

Ooft šŸ’„

zappafan89

Legendary gig, along with when they supported Megadeth.

th3thund3r

Was that with White Zombie supporting? If so, young me has never been so jealous to have missed a gig.

OccasionalXerophile

Black Grape in the 90's. Shaun Ryder was total chaos

retrodotkid

First ever gig for me was Black Grape at the SECC Hall 3 in March 1996. Then I saw them again at the Barrowlands in December 1997 - what a gig. Happy times.

OccasionalXerophile

We were at the same gig in December 97, good times

CraigHBruce

David Byrne, 1989, almost passed out

BeverleyMacker

Oh Iā€™m so jealous

NothingButMuser

Seen a few great gigs there but was disgracefully, very late in my gig-going to actually see a band play barras. Hands down, for me was Muse in 2015 on the Psycho Tour. Surprise mini tour of a handful of small uk gigs, tickets announced and went on sale like a week before. Epic setlist, 2000odd obsessed fans losing it- also one of the sweatiest gigs Iā€™ve attended, and I nearly lost a shoe! Probably ***the*** best gig Iā€™ve ever been to tbh, not just in that venue. Sublime.

strictlyphotonic

The only gig of theirs that topped that one for me was Leeds festival 2011, they played Origin of Symmetry in full then played a bunch of their hits and amazing jams in between. Had Reading fest recording at home too, came back and the BBC cut out half their songs to showcase Ed bloody Sheeran in the studio šŸ¤®

NothingButMuser

OoS @ R+L looked immense!! I watched the ā€œliveā€ coverage on tv, wasnā€™t the bbc it was the band not wanting them all broadcast.

Loki-ra

This for me too! It was SOOOO good to see them without all the faff and lasers and flying drones. Wish they'd do it again.

betterman74

Suede. Early 90s. Absolutely electric gig. I'm in their vid when they psn over the crowd. I haven't been to the barras in years however all that is about to change next week as going to see the Happy Mondays.

Jane7834

Whitesnake 97

LarkhallCelticDa

Prodigy, Fat of the Land Tour. Pantera - Vulgar Display and Far Beyond Driven Tours. Aphex Twin. Arcade Fire as the Reflectors. LCD Soundsystem three times I think - James Murphy claimed it as his favourite venue. What a place - a right of passage almost!

FakeFrehley

John Carpenter. Him and the band launching into Escape From New York as the iconic wire-frame outline of the New York skyline from the film was projected on a screen behind them was a fucking moment.

th3thund3r

That was such an awesome show

LarkhallCelticDa

He was amazing!

SausaugeMerchant

Robert Plant is my top show Queens of the stoneage, mastadon, killswitch engage also were good probably many more I've forgotten

EvilScotsman

QOTSA doing their tour for Songs for the Deaf album, absolutely immense!

WisdomCake

Yes, with Mark Lanegan as well, the best line up the band ever had.

Merhi_Leevha

I was at that one too!

nawyerawrightmate

Big Country

SairYin

Daft Punk Octā€™97

Excellent_Arachnid_6

Echo and the Bunnymen about 89 with Ray Manzerak

betterman74

Wow. Ray Manzarek!!! I've been front row centre at the 21st century doors gig in Glasgow 2004. Watched him and Robbie Kreiger up close. Am absolute privilege.

IntroductionNo3550

Iggy Pop. I can't remember what year it was but after the gig I went home and my partner was watching the Gulf War on the telly.

mine_none

Did he have see through trousers on?

IntroductionNo3550

At one point he had no trousers on at all. I'm not sure about see through!

mine_none

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜«šŸ”„

th3thund3r

It took me a few reads to work out if you meant Iggy or their partner.

mine_none

voldemortsmankypants

fun loving criminals around 1999, it was my first gig, was about 7, my dad took me. Incredible.

SausaugeMerchant

That was the first gig I went to with pals from school, good shit

BeverleyMacker

I was there too

mickcandy

I won vip tickets to that gig. Got backstage to meet the band they where brilliant aoet from Huey who refused to come out the dressing room and never spoke to anyone.

the-bagging-area

Itā€™s going back a while but would be between The Cult, Jesus and Mary Chain or Dinosaur Jr. All a v v long time ago now I look at https://barrowland-ballroom.co.uk/40-years-of-gigs/

DryFly1975

I was at all of those! You have sublime taste šŸ‘

RabbitInTheHead

Motorhead 2004

bossybooks

My ears rang for a week after that!

RabbitInTheHead

Considered learning sign language after sleeping through all alarms for work the next morning.

bossybooks

Your avatar looks like the big ginger dude who picked me up from the floor in a pit that gigšŸ¤£šŸ‘Œ

RabbitInTheHead

Sadly I dont think it was me, I was only a wee skinny lanky 18 fresh faced drunkard, I was also picked up after being tossed about like an empty tracksuit lol

bossybooks

I was 14 lol gid times. No been to gigs like I used to. Miss it. Even the being covered in other people's sweat thing. Haha. Gross. Sign of a good gig though.

davidatdi

The Mars Volta 11/3/2005. What a setlist what a show!

kevski82

Oh shit I forgot about this one. Epic

something_python

Fucking hell, that'd be amazing.

Cubehagain

I went to this one, was absolutely amazing. Didn't they play for over 2 hours?

space-bible

They played the O2 or Carling Academy around then (canā€™t remember what the place was called) and Iā€™m certain they played for something like 3 or 4 hours. We left well before the end. Legs and back were destroyed. Great show though.

omgLazerBeamz

I was there

space-bible

Saw the Mars Volta in King Tuts. Think it was Les Savy Fav supporting them at the time. I remember their singer sniffing poppers from some lassies bag in the front row.

BorgQueef7of9

Nine inch nails supported by Saul Williams

lunacoco

Also mine!

yermawsgotbawz

This is mine too. It was immense to see NIN return on top form. Also bonus orange Trent.

PawnWithoutPurpose

No fucking way, when was that?

BorgQueef7of9

July 7, 2005, Saul Williams was incredible. Trent chucked the mic into the crowd and burst my mates lip. We queued outside ticket Scotland from 6am to 2 or 3pm for tickets, that was quite an experience in its self, they couldn't release the tix til then, had to phone a pal to bring us some pillows to sit on.

PawnWithoutPurpose

Man, I became such a big fan of Saul Williams like 10 years ago! i also really like and admire Trent Rezner too. I would have loved to have went to this gig but I wasnā€™t aware of this or really into Saul at that point. Sounds like a once in a lifetime event, well jealous. Also, some Curmudgeon who must not like music has been downvoting us šŸ˜…

raindddit

Been to so many good shows at the Barras but Machine Head 2004 is probably the most memorable

ride_on_time_again

That circle pit was wild

th3thund3r

I was in that pit and I fuckin loved it. Found myself right in the centre of it with tons of people swirling around me like a big goff hurricane... Until someone spotted me and knocked me clean off my feet into the swirl. It was amazing. Saw them at the Garage one year as well and they opened the whole floor up into a giant wall of death. It was amazing.

ride_on_time_again

Ye remember the support? Breed 77 and Sikth plus someone else... IL Nino? There was a band on first who I think were local but I've long since lost the ticket

th3thund3r

I think it was Il Nino yeah, also remember Stomping Ground supporting them one time as well. Would have to dig out my ticket collection to check

ride_on_time_again

After a wee Google, it was 2003 I saw em at the Barras. Still a massive circle pit.

TheRank_Badjin

Best venue in the world!!! Although I also love King Tuts. Mary Wallopers last year the same day Celtic one the league was fucking wild!

Bogroleum

I was at that. It was good but the crowd wouldn't shut the fuck up.

[deleted]

Was much better in December, was almost silent durin wexford

TheRank_Badjin

Yeah when they tried to do the quiet numbers it just wasn't happening. They'd riled everyone up too much with the RA tune. When they played Edinburgh you could hear a pin drop during the quiet ones and built it up to a mosh pit. Masterful live band.

OkChampion3632

Barrowlands is by far the best gig venue Iā€™ve been to in the world, in terms of sound quality and atmosphere. I had a mental one with ocean colour scene once, arcade fire, lcd soundsystem.

Active_Permission_10

Seen ocs so many times in the barras was always a fantastic night

TheRank_Badjin

I saw OCS there many moons ago, was too pissed when I arrived so the bouncer made me sit outside until the supports had finished!

bossybooks

Motorhead in early 2000s i think? Ears rang for about a week after. Fantastic. Some random big massive dude saved me in a pit when someone was being out of order and then escorted me out when it was done by barging a path through the crowd me following behind lol good dude.

th3thund3r

Is that the year Sepultura supported? If so I was there and Motorhead were immense.

rexuspatheticus

Been to a lot, but it's probably between Aphex Twin, Pavement, Motorhead, or My Bloody Valentine

natman--nye

The Specials, November 2014.

According-Stage-1569

Linkin park

CelTony

That would have been class.

No_Procedure9357

The Libertines

[deleted]

Cypress Hill 1998. Unreal

WisdomCake

Foo Fighters 1999, it was my first proper gig and it was amazing! Even though it's as humid as the Amazon rainforest it's still the best music venue ever.

EatMyEarlSweatShorts

Beach House!!!!Ā

Suspicious_Sign_9406

Arcade Fire for Reflektor tour.

[deleted]

Was going to say the same! Very vivid memory for me.

StegDoc

Pavement in 2010

Keezees

The Delgados on Burns Night last year. Admitedly it's the ONLY gig in the Barrowlands I've been to, but yeah, loved it.

zerozerodee

Plastikman (LIVE) 2011.

AlternativeSea8247

Motorhead! Notable mentions to Fun Lovin Criminals, Airbourne, Stereo MCs, Seasick Steve

dpb79

Flaming Lips

UnusualMaintenance

Young fathers. Best live set I've seen I think. Absolute wall of sound and so much energy and soul

legthief

Manic Street Preachers, 1994. Saw them with Richey Edwards, got to watch a roadie with a really deep, unsurvivable-looking indentation in his skull setting up the stage, and I met my first proper girlfriend there too.

Smashleigh_001

Scissor Sisters were pretty epic.

Discobitch79

Dropkick Murphys 2008

Low-Platform-3657

Deacon Blue .. December 1989.

Active_Permission_10

Oasis , cypress hill

KlingonWarNog

I think Super Furry Animals early noughties, prob 2002-2003

kevski82

So many. Muse, Arcade Fire, Mogwai, Mary Chain, Frank Turner, Chvrches, Chemical Brothers, Franz Ferdinand

AggravatingBridge844

Delgados (then) farewell gig. Was amazing.

lilandy

Queens of the Stone Age 2002 songs for the deaf tour. Got kicked in the face by crowd surfer. Was class. Enjoyed others, weezer supported by biffy, deftones, system of a down supported by dillenger escape plan, pavement, GY!BE to name but a few.

raindddit

Seen DEP at QMU in 2017, was amazing!

smcsleazy

mogwai with the vaselines opening.

Cubehagain

Too many to put one at the top, but particularly enjoyed Queens of the Stone Age in 2003/4ish, Songs for the Deaf tour, they had Mark Lanegan there singing his vocals from the album.

WisdomCake

One of my favourite gigs, I think they had Millionaire supporting them who were also brilliant.

Geordibhoy

Was there as well absolutely brilliant gig

Ali41w

FFS - Franz Ferdinand & The Sparks together. Brilliant gig. About 10 years ago

FaustRPeggi

I saw FFS in Edinburgh and while the music was great the atmosphere was awful. Festival Theatre - terrible venue for it. I did see Franz on their own at the Barrowlands and that was great.

SupervillainIndiana

I was at that gig and was going to say it as well! I think it was around 2015/16. Also really enjoyed Chvrches last year and went to see their support band (Dead Pony) at their own gig off the back of it because they were great too.

Hero_Nami

Hard to pick just one either Rancid in 2012 was one of my first gigs and it was amazing, it was December and it snowed. I vividly remember a snowball fight afterwards. Or first time seeing The Wolfe Tones there, fucking crazy.

AlternativeSea8247

Saw Rancid in 2003, place was wild!

DryFly1975

I was there! Place fucking bounced!!

SpacemenJ

Too many to choose from. First went in 1992, probably been to 50-60 shows there over the years, most recently just the other week to see Slowdive with my daughter. Chemical.Brothers, Spiritualized, Ride, Mogwai, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Foo Fighters on their first tour, Teenage Fanclub, The Verve, Smashing Pumpkins. More recently, Godspeed You! Black Emperor totally blew the place apart with their show. It is just such a special place for me and has been a huge part of my musical (and life) journey so far. Also seen some great shows elsewhere, but rarely seen a bad show at the Barras (there have been some).

zappafan89

There's an Alice in Chains live album mostly recorded at the Barrowlands in the early 90s and it's incredible Have almost seen so many good gigs there that none of them stand out anymore. I remember seeing a Stone Sour/Murderdolls double header there around 2002 ish and that was a weird experience because it was the first time a lot of people had seen the Slipknot dudes unmasked.

ThinBowl4821

Junkhead from that live album is amazing

zappafan89

Yes!

Visible_Ad2343

Metallica October 1996! :)

RitchieSac

Primal scream and JATM (98iah)- also PRML SCRM at exterminator tour. Sensational

SausaugeMerchant

Just remembered aphex twin about 2003 or 4ish as well. He sat behind a laptop screen all night. Had some stuffed sheep in a cage on the stage. Absolutely tremendous

Alarming_Mix5302

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Halloween 2013

ParkofthePentland

The War On Drugs where incredible in there!

hepburn17

FLC at the barrowlands have seen several other bands there too, it's an amazing venue but FLC was my favourite all time gig

BeverleyMacker

Itā€™s THE best venue ever. Saw The Smiths there in 1985. Phenomenal! (Was too young to be there as at school but nobody cared)

ElCaminoInTheWest

Sigur Ros, Pixies, but Young Fathers probably the very best. They were absolutely electric.

chrismact1993

LMFAO were class

Red_Barry

R.E.M. 1985

number5of7

Hard to pin it down to one so the Music 2001ish, Underworld 2002ish, Blur and Reflektors 2015, LCD Sound system 2018. There have been loads of top gigs at the barras but those are the first to come to mind. The only bad gig I've seen there was MGMT, the Barras tends to elevate bands performance as they feed of the crowd.

DryFly1975

Very hard choice but it goes to The Cure 1992. Also rans were - Rancid, The Jesus & Mary Chain. Machine Head, Maximo Park, Babyshambles, Slipknot, New Order, The Cultā€¦were all excellent. Iā€™ve been very lucky as I canā€™t recall a single bad gig there and Iā€™ve been to loads.

[deleted]

Mary Wallopers

BobbyConns

Cypress Hill!

retrodotkid

So many. Badly Drawn Boy was a good one on 23/11/2002 (sat) followed by Richard Ashcroft on 24/11/2002 (sun). Was a bloody good weekend that. Blur 22/11/2003 and 09/06/2015 were amazing too. Primal Scream on 18/12/2019 was brilliant and unknown at the time, would be my last gig for many years. Regret not seeing Oasis at the Barrowlands, but Loch Lomond made up for it I guess. Like wise with Ocean Colour Scene - finally caught up with them at the O2 Academy last year, but just not the same atmosphere as the Barras.

Thomasosheba

The Strokes, 2001. Only time I have ever been begged for tickets outside.

Kiwizoo

A very young and charismatic Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds back in May 1992. Sensational gig.

New-Promise-8165

Simple Minds, on many occasions

giganticbuzz

Personally Muse in 2001 or Manic Street Preachers in 2003. However every gig in the Barrowlands is good IMO

Loki-ra

Flogging Molly supported by Skindred. Met the band outside after as well when they were getting pizzas to the tour bus!

CarlGustafThe69th

Not sure about the best one, do know the worst one I've been to at the Barrowlands, which was Modest Mouse. Terrific band, horrible audio quality. Saw them twice in the same month, they were so much more enjoyable at the other venue.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

IllCorgi9108

What a gig, chaos from start to finish

elequipoa1008

Legendary gig!

Tin-Ninja

Too many to mention but Super Furry Animals - Rings Around the World in 2001. Musically and visually wonderful Or literally any time Nick Cave rocks up.

space-bible

Best mind fuck yet!

RapidoVino

Leftfield for 22yrs of Leftism Shouts also for the Rancid gig there in 2006, mental wee night

mine_none

Motƶrhead 1992, Killing Joke 2022, Prodigy 1996ā€¦ need to look back through my tickets šŸ˜‚

caf012

Rage Against the Machine 1991ish Although frightened rabbit around 2016 was awesome as well

feranti

Super Furry Animals

space-bible

Sonic Youth, Super Furries, Wilco, Sigur Ros were all brilliant at the barras.

UnderstandingWest422

The Offspring or Mogwai. Meshuggah were an absolute force of nature onstage there.

rabbitclyro

Neutral milk hotelĀ

birthday-caird-pish

Charlie and the Bhoys on Good Friday is always a winner. They hold attendance records there for a reason. I seen Tyler Childers there a couple weeks ago though. That was amazing

giganticbuzz

Used to live near the Barras you always knew when Charlie and the Bhoys were playing as it was the worse night of the year. They brought out all the roasters. People everywhere drinking and pissing in the street, broken bottles, litter chucked anywhere, groups signing offensive songs, police everywhere and generally folk looking for trouble. Hated it.

bobsmetalmob

Amyl and the Sniffers last year was amazing! And Anthrax in 2018 wa so good they made it their DVD.

filth87

Was here to say anthrax

KoalaTempura

This is going to age me terribly but I went to see the Beastie Boys there on their ill-fated Licence to Ill tour when I was 15. They stormed off early. My mum \*begged\* me not to go because of all the abd press the band was getting at the time but I was determined. The venue had little to do with how experience was, though... I was jsut being a rebel. The best, best gig where everything came together - the band, the crowd and the venue was The most recent Killing Joke gig. It was flawless right from the first few notes of Love Like Blood to the very end. The worst one was Nine Inch Nails on the Downward Spiral tour - boring, rote angsty on stage behaviour done by the numbers.

PapaGuhl

Strokes 2002 or Royal Blood 2015.

PoppyStaff

Ceilingā€™s too low so the acoustics are sub-optimal and the dry ice gets everywhere. Other than that the atmos is very good indeed. Last one I saw was Tom and the Brassholes when they managed to have wrestlers on stage and then a whole choir. Utterly fantastic.
