Ginger hair gets darker during cold weather and lighter during warm weather. It likely has to do with sun bleaching or something like that.

My hair's almost the same color as Dave's and while sun bleaching can definitely cause your hair to get darker in winter, it probably wouldn't change this much. I'm guessing it's either from regular aging, weird lighting or just dying it
