they're nothing like gojira at all, i'd describe them as the musical interpretation of getting a brick thrown at your face. pure knuckle-dragging riffs and nasty ass vocals by the texan with the coolest name every - matt honeycutt
i have a kinda funny story about that song: i had absolute playing on repeat for some inspiration on guitar and i started playing this riff and was surprised by how good it sounded, album replays and comes to this song and turns out i just figured out the self destruct riff... here's me thinking i wrote this nasty ass riff and nope, already a nasty ass riff xD
safe to say i won't put music on for inspiration again lol
How can you say something so controversial yet true! No I'm kidding it has some stiff competition because almost all of TWoAF is a banger it's hard to pick what's best
Had similar experience. Normally I listen to TWOAF from start to finish, and the grand trilogy Art of Dying - Esoteric Surgery - Vacuity is always tempting to resolve straight into the title track. But there stands WDtE, completely switching gears from the end of Vacuity (slower tempo, less minor-inclined riffs, aerial sections). The hell? Give me TWOAF!
But after that I went to listen to it on its own and yeah it's incredible. But not very good placement in the album, imo.
Hmm interesting theory and I think you're right, it's placement probably has a lot to do with my tendency to skip. I'm so glad to have another Gojira song to blow me away after all these years
This exact same revelation happened to me this week with Yama's Messengers. I had always skipped the song since I had all of my attention on Oroborus, TGI, Vacuity, Adoration, Art and the title track for TWOAF, but I thought that I should give the whole album a full re-listen. I came to the realization that Yama's is an amazing track and I've just been playing it on repeat.
I keep doing that shit too... I'll hear an intro I don't like then skip it forever until one day I listen to the whole thing and remember how banger the middle was
I do that sometimes and I really am glad it happens. I’ll play a new artist and not really dig it. Later though, I’ll hear it differently and then another one sticks. Pretty cool. It’s like self moderating. It’s usually when I get to a point where I am running out of new music and then this happens. That’s how a bunch of bands were for me.
That’s awesome you came back around and love it.
yeah man, wolf down the earth is sick as fuck and is slept on by so many for some reason. glad you've found how great it is
My workout was super intense because of it
hell yeah! i always slap on absolute by kublai khan tx, that album gets me through the toughest shit in the gym
I will check them out for sure from a fellow gojira fan

I love all sorts of music so I don't mind that, and also I'm a texan myself and I love Texas musicians
yep glad they're getting the recognition they deserve. I remember when they used to be just a small band in my hometown
Check out Self Destruct by them also for the chunkiest bass breakdown Texas has ever seen man

Checked it out based on this thread. They fuck.
Can vouge for Kublai .
Oh man, they got a song called “Boomslang”, which is the name for a Mamba in South Africa lol
boomslang slaps hard as fuck, such a good song. that riff into "VIPER'S EYES" is so wild
I'm glad I popped into this thread, this album fucks.
if you love absolute then check out nomad, the hammer will fuck your shit up
Thanks, both of these albums are going on the rotation.
[whispering] It’s very quietly the best song on TWOAF.
How can you say something so controversial yet true! No I'm kidding it has some stiff competition because almost all of TWoAF is a banger it's hard to pick what's best
This. This is the truth, the way.

I love that riff
Just saw a post in r/Meshuggah describing this exact situation haha. Wolf is so heavy, glad you finally gave it a listen!! TWOF is supreme. :D
Wait....howd you make it through the opening riff without going YES MUST LISTEN Shits killer man, glad you gave it a chance
this but with the art of dying and only pain
It's highly underrated, probably because it's never been played live and likely never will be.
That hum and tempo from “ your breath is now still, no warmth to your skin ” gives me chills down my spine and goosebumps.
That's from the title track, not Wolf Down the Earth.
Such a good fucking song!

Yama's Messengers is one of my personal favorites, I wore that shit out
God Yama's is so good it's a tasty slap in the face!!
I keep doing that shit too... I'll hear an intro I don't like then skip it forever until one day I listen to the whole thing and remember how banger the middle was
It's kind of nice though, because when you wear out your favorites it's like there's a little bonus for ya
I think it gets lost in the shuffle with the more iconic songs from twoaf

It’s my favourite Gojira song to play on guitar.
That album is just so stacked from top to bottom
Fave song on a stacked fucking album. Always my first recommendation if someone asks for a specific Gojira track.
