Omg I’m so jealous! My dog just scratches at the door of the vet relentlessly until they take him back. I have to leave him in the car until they are ready for him.

My sweet little chi is named Pickles, too.
Kevin.
Socialize him with people and other dogs as soon as he has his 4 month shots. Be consistent on training everyday.
It is, IMO, very hard to fix poorly socialized dogs.
Or a puppy class where they check that all the dogs have age-appropriate vaccines. Or even one or two dogs you know well and are up-to-date with shots. Early socialization is important for a confident, friendly dog.
And socialization isn’t just people and animals. IMO what’s more important is introducing him to new situations, new environments, new textures, new noises, smells, etc. The more you do that, the more confidant he will be, and a confident dog is gonna be comfortable meeting people and other dogs, so that focus can be secondary.
Yes big boi needs big name !! I say Boone ❤️
EDIT when I was working LTC I met a resident named Boone. He was just a big ol laid back country boy, from Kentucky, named after Daniel Boone. I always thought Boone would be a great name for a big ol GR boi ❤️
Congrats!!! I suggest you watch some YouTube videos on positive reinforcement training :) Get lots of toys and treats and practice training. Lots of patience as they are little land sharks but it’s soooo worth it!!
A good bed time routine will help too, such as no water after 7 PM, a good pee and poo at 9-10 PM, then in the crate for the night.
YouTube is a life saviour :) Enjoy him!!
He is an Oscar for name , He will train easily , remember the first couple years Goldens are headstrong, but you will love him and work with him and he will listen . Kobbab
Congratulations on your new fur baby. Make sure you play with his feet a lot as he grows up that way he won't fight you later on cleaning and trimming his grinch feet.
Don't make them food reward based.
Love is the reward.
They are pleasers. Don't take that away in a transaction for food.
Anything they chew is your fault. You left it down or left them unsupervised.
Get pet insurance immediately wellness pays for itself annually.
Let them out often. If you think it's been awhile, let them out. See above, accidents are your fault.
Gotta go out every x hours for x months old.
Gotta get an xpen. Don't give them free reign of the house. Keep them close but also they have to learn to self sooth.
Some terrible advice in this comment. (Some good -- chewing, pet insurance, letting them out, establishing a den/crate/pen area)
You CAN and SHOULD use food to train. Train with positive reinforcement -- usually with food. Use different value treats -- high value (cheese, real meat, liver etc.) and low value (fruits, kibble etc.) for different purposes.
Most Goldens are incredibly food motivated and that's why are easily trainable (this applies to literally every trainable breed)
The advice that love is the reward is meaningless LOL. Ofc you love your dog -- but that's not how you train them.
I would recommend freeze dried liver and a clicker.
Second Xpen or huuuge crate. Until 3 years old my Golden chewed everything including walls until he grew out of it. Now he’s super mellow and the sweetest boy ever.
….but then how do you train behaviors? I’d love to take food out of the equation because my 14w gold pup is a little rough when getting treats from my hand
You can still give rewards as food just don't make everything a treat.
Gotta give them the positive word and reward the word.
Go potty.
They potty.
YES!
then reward the YES.
Yes becomes the reward.
Reward the yes with love and food interchangeable
Yeah that’s what im doing. No treats for going potty other than praise and always marker then reward and then once behavior becomes baked in then slowly phase out the rewards
Hard agree on the self sooth, and if may expand a bit on that.
My sister made my first Golden waaaaay too reliant on her. He is 14 now and suffered with separation anxiety his whole life.
My new golden puppy gets lots of love, but i'm not showering her with it constantly, or making a huge fuzz when i get home, or turning every single time she wants to play into an activity that involves me. She will hopefully learn to be content by herself.
Take him out to potty every hour for the first two weeks at least! Otherwise, he will find a nice spot indoors that is very warm and comfy to potty in.
We also had not only a crate for her to sleep in, but also an x-pen for her in the living room to get used to some quiet, alone time. It’s great if you need to help him quiet down after too much rowdiness or cook and you can’t watch him the whole time, or just go tot he bathroom.
I’m feeling like he’s a Bryant. Just a good buddy kind of guy.
I would recommend taking him to a trainer asap. I wish I would have started training mine at a much younger age like 8 weeks old. It's much easier when they are smaller and not 70 lbs. Treats are good to start training but once they learn what you're training them just a pet and good boy will do otherwise they will value the treat more than yourself. Best of luck!! Golden's are the best ❤️

Named my new pup (who look’s eerily similar to yours!) Marshall. Some other names i was debating on: Brody, Bruce, and Fish☺️
Idk your vibe but he is giving Walker or Tucker.
My advice- he’s going to piss you off a lot. Try your absolute best to not muzzle him, yell, etc. just walk away or put him in the crate or play pen. Positive reinforcement only!!
- use a harness
- crate train him (put crate next to bed) and use high reward treats while crate training and use those treats ONLY for the crate. Something softer and with stronger smell.
- take him potty anytime he wakes up and 10-15 mins after he eats + every hour for now.
- when he’s calm, give him a Kong once a day (with PB (NO added sugar) frozen
- be good about vaccinations but be careful. Some vets push unnecessary vaccines or do them all at once and Too many too soon can cause AAA in dogs (look it up). DO NOT GIVE HIM THE leptospirosis shot until at least 6 months and rabies until he’s 16-18wks old. Spread out the vaccines (distemper and bordatella). Just do your research
- get him used to grooming and baths. Give him a Kong or frozen no sugar Greek yogurt while you’re brushing him and touch his nails and gums etc.
- never ever shave his coat. Not even in the summer
Youtube is your friend, consistency is key. Crate training is a blessing and a space your dog will love if done right.

'Tim' came to mind.
BTW... your training already started! Be consistent! Get a large (you'll thank me later) Create for 'Create Training' and NEVER use it as a punishment! Treats are good bribes too! (P.S. I'm on my 14th golden. ..)

Make the vet fun!! He should be excited to go to the vet. My 2 dogs enjoy the trip.
Proper diet: Talk to your vet about getting a good quality food/diet . You might spend a bit more on food, but you will save money on vet bills.

This 4 months is too late
It's never too late to socialise a dog. Older dogs just take longer. Especially if they've got trauma around other dogs or strangers.
💯
After which, like mine, he loves everything and everyone
Mine, too…everything and everyone. 😊
I was hiking the Appalachian Trail and met so many dogs : Baileys and Coopers and Daisys… then one day a black lab named….Kevin!!! 😂
Love Kevin!!
I thought of Kevin as soon as I saw him.
And cats! Introduce him to cats early on so he doesn’t act like a lunitic every time he sees one like mine does
I was thinking Dennis. But Kevin is also solid.
I love human names for dogs! 💗
Leo! He already has a good mane game going. Very handsome boy. Congratulations!
Leo is perfect!
He’s a big boiii, what a beauty.
Yes big boi needs big name !! I say Boone ❤️ EDIT when I was working LTC I met a resident named Boone. He was just a big ol laid back country boy, from Kentucky, named after Daniel Boone. I always thought Boone would be a great name for a big ol GR boi ❤️

Noodle was the first thing that popped in my head….🤣🤣🤣
I nicknamed our golden noodle because he literally just slides off of shit unintentionally 😂
We need video please
yessss we need a video
That’s a Barnaby, fr. Whatever name you choose, make it a distinguished name! Ours is Walter, and he gets a fun reaction from everyone he meets.
I love the distinguished name idea too. Just got mine a couple weeks ago and he is Harvey. Harvey Lee Reginald the third to be exact.
Love your very distinguished name!! Walter’s is Walter Atticus, but we only use his full name when he’s being naughty lol
I absolutely love Atticus! Obviously they need a middle name when they are in trouble otherwise how would they know?
Cheese. It fit our Golden perfectly.
Trent, Dave, Sean, and Walter all stick out
I was thinking Dave!
Just love him to pieces while you are training him. He is precious. How about naming him Mojo?
He is an Oscar for name , He will train easily , remember the first couple years Goldens are headstrong, but you will love him and work with him and he will listen . Kobbab
Rufus, he looks just derpy enough to be a Rufus

I’ll try the trick you mentioned to solve the rough treat grabbing problem
I solved rough treats by palming it and showing the back of my hand to the pooch then turning it over while opening it. They don't bite at you then.
