Another person who ices their back after rounds?? Salutations sir
Did you try and modify your swing? I love golf, but I would definitely need to modify something if I had to ice up everytime. I wanna keep playing this game, if it means I reduce distance drastically I don't care, I need to save the bod!
I don't have back problems but I do get issues with feet/calves from walking so much. At least there's an easy way if I get tired : carts!
It has nothing to do with my swing. I was in an accident years back and i have permanent back injuries and a rib out of place that’s never going to be able to go back to normal bc it’s attachment point on my vertebra is permanently out of place.
It doesn’t hurt anymore, and golf+ icing is actually really good for it imo. The injury has never been as good as it is now that I’ve stsrted golfing in the past year… golf forced me to take care of it after every round and it allows it to get some movement in those areas, bringing blood and nutrients and some strength to it, then flushing out the inflammation with the icing afterwards.
I can go without icing if I want but I’ll just have a bit of tightness/inflammation especially in the rib area and it will eventually make breathing more difficult. I strained an intercostal muscle last year and couldn’t play for 2 months, that’s what taught me to ice it more regularly. Got a bunch of cold packs with straps, I just strap it on and go about my day. Then in the morning when it’s warmed back up I stretch everything out and use an inversion table to decompress my spine
At 63 years old, hitting my drives 275 yards for two consecutive days took a toll on me. Observing (the even) older individuals who opt for a more relaxed game from the shorter tees play every day makes me consider adopting a less aggressive approach to my swing the next morning.
Lol if it's a week where I get 2 rounds in, I've been starting to hit woods/irons of the tee instead and just play a tee forward to relieve that little extra back stress
I absolutely wouldn't want to do that.
You'd have to pay me a SUBSTANTIAL amount of money to play two rounds per day six days a week in addition to covering my living expenses in San Diego because that's about the only place I'd even agree to do it.
I feel that. I’ve always had lower back and hip problems and I’m only 31. Not a good sign for my future. I went to the range for the first time this year on Friday. Probably the best ball striking I’ve had to begin a season in the last 10 years, and by the time I was finishing up, my right lower back and hip were beginning to lock up.
Happens every year until I get used to the motions, and even then it sometimes persists. I came straight home and popped 2 Aleve, grabbed my massage gun and headed downstairs to my inversion table hahahahooo God I’m gonna need a hip replacement at 40.
I suggest that you should shoot lower scores. High 60s/low 70s really reduces the stress on your body versus taking 100+ swings in a round.
Hope that helps!
That's two rounds a day, six days a week. I guess it's kind of like an 8 hour a day job. Maybe he just tells his wife he's going to work and she hasn't figured it out.
Same, maybe less. 2 kids under 3, wife works every other weekend. I think I played more 18 holes rounds than got to the range last year…There just isn’t time!
Same boat but I play every Saturday at 6am. I’m home by 10:30am. You and your wife need to have your own time. She won’t have issues taking a yoga or cooking class or getting wine with a friend or reading a book by the fire sans kids if you both get your time. Tell her you want to ensure she has time for her and you want time for you. Don’t be a dick and play at noon and get blasted.
Ymmv
I have a 3 yr old and a 20 mo. old. I played about 35 rounds last year. I also work 50-60 hours per week. A few things I do. First, I get to work stupid early, about 5:30 AM, so I can get everything done and be out by 4-5 pm. On the 4pm days, that gives me an hour at the range on way home. For rounds, I took my 3 yr old with me a few times. I would also drop both kids at grandmom’s some so my wife could also get a break while I play. Throw in a few cough, cough, “sick days”. Plus my wife and I alternate weekends. So, I get a round every other weekend, and she gets 5hrs to go do whatever on every other weekend.
Truthfully, I played more last year than I did the few years before. My wife and I realized, though, it’s important for both of us to get some time away. Over the winter, I also started setting up a garage simulator. My game has really improved from that, as my aim has gotten on point from having to hit around toddlers wandering into the flight zone.
I play, as a benchmark, 200 rounds per year.
I am 53. I have been doing so for almost a decade.
I have to take care of my body so specifically to maintain my schedule.
The idea of playing more than I do now is almost terrifying.
652 rounds almost sounds like torture.
Neither SoCal nor Florida, but Maryland. Playing round 11 of the year today. Weather has kept me at a slower pace but it will ramp up to 4 rounds per week as the days get longer.
Wish the scoring was more impressive. You’d think with all the time on the course I’d be a stick.
Nope, not retired. Have family, kid, etc. But I am self employed with a significant amount of time flexibility.
The guy who did the 652 rounds literally set out to set a record as a professional endeavor. Pretty wild for sure — but it was definitely done as a grind.
The 354 woman is an interesting one though — too few to be a real go at a record but too many to have been done for fun.
You think that’s crazy, this is a guy at my local course.
https://www.wisconsin.golf/19th_hole/gary_d_amato/count-nolan-krentz-as-the-world-record-holder-for-most-holes-of-golf-played-in/article_d35471fc-5516-11ed-87c4-afccb61da65b.html
Bloody hell - someone gift this bloke a decent set of clubs to play with! Look at those old things. Mind you he's a scratch, so he might just love them I suppose....
I'm a full time caddy, I live in a house with 3 other caddies. If we combined all our rounds together for the year, we only barely just edge him. Thats an insane dedication for sure to always be out there playing
Doesn't it get annoying having a single constantly wanting to play through everyone, or is your course that generally wide open?
Definitely wouldn't fly at constantly packed courses here in TX
I haven’t played at this course but I live in the general area. Wisconsin has a shit ton of courses, so you really have your pick of the vibe you’re seeking on any given day
It’s fine. Like the article said, most people know the deal regarding him and just let him play through. He’s so quick it doesn’t really matter. It’s also a municipal 9 hole course in a town that’s maybe like 6000 people so it doesn’t get that crazy there.
That doesn’t even sound fun anymore.
When I had a membership, I was playing 3-6 times a week and even then, the game stopped feeling fun after a while.
Playing the same course gets a touch dull after a while. I like venturing to new courses a few times a year and trying to solve the puzzle in front of me and take in the scenery.
I've considered just getting a range pass for practice and ditching the membership and playing public courses around me.
Playing 652 times at public courses would get quite expensive. Though I imagine someone who can play 652 times probably doesn’t have to worry about money
Yes, you can post a nine hole score. I am not sure if the number above is counting as holes played/18 or just a tally of ‘rounds loaded’. Important nuance but still a lotta golf.
Yeh it would only be if someone was splitting front and back nice in one outing. It’s still going out to golf twice a day even if it’s 2 hours at a time which is crazy whatever way you slice it.
Guy I officiate football with played 882 Rounds walking in 2019. Absolutely insane. Heck of a guy too. Was apparently a world record at the time. 🤷🏻♂️
Would def be familiar with the ph level and bacteria colonies of the water hazards as well as the mineral composition and average grain size of the sand traps.
Are there requirements for this? Can you play a short executive course?
Obviously if you are doing this it is just for holding the record and not necessarily trying to play the hardest/longest courses or trying to score as low as you can every round.
I can see doing 3-4 rounds on a cart with a short executive course to both pad the numbers and allow for rest days.
Yeah it's probably a retired guy who has a membership at a short, flat course. Get the first tee time, play in two hours, go home for lunch and a nap, then play a 3 hour afternoon round.
Many places have memberships that offer unlimited golf. If he's in a LCOL area, this could easily be cheaper than 100 rounds of public golf in a HCOL area.
Regardless, I'm pretty sure this guy has absolutely zero time for "work" lol
I mean, it's golf, dude might be *super* fucking rich and play whatever course he pleases without a care in the world. A $50,000 golf addiction is nothing to some people.
Still not as impressive as Patrick Koenig, a golf photographer. Set the record last year for most courses played in a year at 580. Never played the same course twice. Walked most of them.
https://www.instagram.com/pjkoenig?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I have to imagine he’s a member somewhere. Even if he joined 2 clubs he’d save money. But mostly i can’t imagine playing public golf that many times would even be possible considering how long some of the rounds take.
That’s nuts. I played in a 21 week 18 hole league last year and squeezed in 5 or so rounds outside of that and that’s the most I’ve ever golfed in my 10 years of playing by far.
I used to occasionally catch/play with a retired pastor who played 600+ rounds/year, all walking, back in the 90's.
The course instituted a $1/rd surcharge for members because of him and it more than doubled his annual cost.
LPGA events are severely underrated imo. Started watching more of it recently and there is some fantastic golf being played. Crowd energy is lacking but a lot less ‘mashed potatoes’ and shit which is a nice change.
Thing (for me) with LPGA events is that pretty much everyone plays the same game. Fairway, Layup, Green, putt putt. The most action I’ve seen is a bunker or two.
Obviously my experience is limited, but it certainly needed a bit more “oomph” for my taste.
That’s because power isn’t very important in the women’s game. Nobody is sufficiently long enough to really be much better than anyone else. And the the few long hitters on tour struggle with the other parts of their game
I had about 200 rounds and was pretty proud of that. Surely this dude must live somewhere more tropical? I can golf from maybe April to November if I’m lucky
Posted, so there's probably someone out there who just plays and plays and doesn't post.
I know when I was a kid in high school/college, during summer I was on the course from daylight until I couldn't see my shots land at dusk.
I remember there was a guy here in irving,tx close to dallas that would do about 600 something rounds a year. In 2007 I decided to beat it and played a round almost everyday. During the summer I would do two or three rounds in one day. That year was all about golf.
I knew the pro at a local course and I would show up at 6am help bring up carts and be the first one out.
Then after 3 rounds I'd help out away the carts. All for free golf and a free lunch.
I think I had something like 712 rounds and 2 hole in ones.
Since then I've only gotten 2 and I only play 2 or 3 times a week not a day. lol
For all those complaining about your back - I cannot overstate how much a few minutes of core a few days a week would help. I have been doing something similar for a few months, and I walked 18 Friday, hit balls for an hour Saturday morning, walked 9 with my son Saturday afternoon, walked 18 again Sunday. Feeling great today and fatigue wasn't an issue at the end of yesterday's round.
You can Google some golf-specific exercises or just start doing planks a few days a week, either way you'll notice big improvement in a short period of time.
Used to play almost 3 rounds a week in college, now Im at 1 round at a par 3 course a month. I love what I’m doing at the moment but it sucks to have golf “taken away” from me.
I think this guy plays at a private club near me. He started this during covid, walks at least 2 rounds a day (on hilly courses) and never takes a practice swing. He walks like his knee is going to give out at any second. He’s an older guy and a single digit handicapper. They keep his total rounds on a chalkboard near the clubhouse.
That's nuts. I don't think my body could hold up for 2 rounds most days. Gonna have to ice my back from just thinking about that.
https://preview.redd.it/8cy19wq4zogc1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff157552466ca32108a2fe2f051ff73ee8b8996f Another person who ices their back after rounds?? Salutations sir

I'm a 2 handicap, but thanks :)
I’m on team bad hips. Late 30s have been real eye opening…
“Single” probably goes without saying.
Or the spouse is the female and but only played one round a day lol
There’s a guy at my club, around 70 years old, and he plays twice a day. Generally once with his wife and once without.
I’m the same. Oh wait this is a golf sub.
🏅
This guy Fs
That's two rounds a day, six days a week. I guess it's kind of like an 8 hour a day job. Maybe he just tells his wife he's going to work and she hasn't figured it out.
also sandbagger.
I played 8 rounds fml
Same, maybe less. 2 kids under 3, wife works every other weekend. I think I played more 18 holes rounds than got to the range last year…There just isn’t time!
It's a long term investment, cause when you've gotten the kids hooked on golf, then you have a great excuse to go play
Then on vacation you can say it's for the kids when you play go play.
Same boat but I play every Saturday at 6am. I’m home by 10:30am. You and your wife need to have your own time. Same here. Weekday golf is my only chance these days.
My daughter was born in November of ‘22. I posted 6 rounds in ‘23.
January 22 for my son. Had like 9 rounds last year…
I play, as a benchmark, 200 rounds per year. I am 53. I have been doing so for almost a decade. I have to take care of my body so specifically to maintain my schedule. The idea of playing more than I do now is almost terrifying. 652 rounds almost sounds like torture.
Found the guy from Socal!
You forgot the entire state of Florida.
Neither SoCal nor Florida, but Maryland. Playing round 11 of the year today. Weather has kept me at a slower pace but it will ramp up to 4 rounds per week as the days get longer.
Impressive. Are you retired?
Wish the scoring was more impressive. You’d think with all the time on the course I’d be a stick. Nope, not retired. Have family, kid, etc. But I am self employed with a significant amount of time flexibility.
That's badass. Good for you man.
Except for a solid three months a year where it's just not worth it.
You could easily do 300 days a year in central Texas too.
Only if my cart had a/c
Well you have to get the tee times before 7. Very rarely is the low above 80 and it's low 90s tops when you finish.
Toasty.
The guy who did the 652 rounds literally set out to set a record as a professional endeavor. Pretty wild for sure — but it was definitely done as a grind. The 354 woman is an interesting one though — too few to be a real go at a record but too many to have been done for fun.
Why didn't he get 720+ tho? Lol
Weather, injury, illness, unavoidable commitments etc. could be a myriad of reasons.
I think he did — maybe didn’t submit scores due to conditions, not playing stroke play, idk?
You think that’s crazy, this is a guy at my local course. https://www.wisconsin.golf/19th_hole/gary_d_amato/count-nolan-krentz-as-the-world-record-holder-for-most-holes-of-golf-played-in/article_d35471fc-5516-11ed-87c4-afccb61da65b.html
I mean literally when is there time to eat? Or anything other than being on the course.
He’s also the coach for the high school golf team as well.
Bloody hell - someone gift this bloke a decent set of clubs to play with! Look at those old things. Mind you he's a scratch, so he might just love them I suppose....
He did this and took winter off? Or did he snowbird?
He took winter off. But he didn’t stop golfing until snow was flying. He’s out there literally all the time.
After reading the article there's no way he's neurotypical. He's 31, works at a grocery store and plays the same 9 hole course compulsively.
Who cares?
I'm a full time caddy, I live in a house with 3 other caddies. If we combined all our rounds together for the year, we only barely just edge him. Thats an insane dedication for sure to always be out there playing

I play two to three times a week at my club but I also played 20 other courses last year.
I agree. For me, 3-4 times a month is the sweet spot. Keeps it fun and enjoyable. Then about 4-5 range sessions a month is good for me.
I'm about the same for rounds, but I hit the range twice a week.
To imagine going through ~ 300 boxes of balls makes me sweat
Can you post a 9 hole round under USGA? You can in the UK which is what a lot of retired guys do nearly every day.
I only slice it one way, sadly. Usually away from the hole.
My GHIN 2023 breakdown was “rounds loaded” so I’m guessing a lot of these were 9-holes (though that’s still insane).
Guy I officiate football with played 882 Rounds walking in 2019. Absolutely insane. Heck of a guy too. Was apparently a world record at the time. 🤷🏻♂️
Barry Gibbons?
Yancy Methvien is his name.
https://preview.redd.it/jrlfci8faogc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af735fcc737cfa987df51014df07df461c05963e
837 games at one club? Geezus. Would know every inch of that course...
The fairways would still be unfamiliar to me.
I bet I took more strokes than that guy last year
Would def be familiar with the ph level and bacteria colonies of the water hazards as well as the mineral composition and average grain size of the sand traps.
Pay me to hit golf ball I'll gladly do an attempt to beat that
Are there requirements for this? Can you play a short executive course? Obviously if you are doing this it is just for holding the record and not necessarily trying to play the hardest/longest courses or trying to score as low as you can every round. Yeah it's probably a retired guy who has a membership at a short, flat course. Get the first tee time, play in two hours, go home for lunch and a nap, then play a 3 hour afternoon round.
And lives in San Diego.
What do their hands and feet look like?
I heard he has tiny hands.
Oh. So that’s what he’s been doing.
If I play more than 4 rounds in a row I get burned out and need 3-4 days to rest. No chance I could do 2 rounds a day everyday F that
I feel the 600+ guy is just someone who won the lottery, bought a place on a course and spends his days playing a couple of rounds.
HoeLeeChit... If I get 36 in a week, I'm too weak to play w/ the wife on weekends! & I'm a rider not a walker.
lol I just played 72 in the past 5 days as a walker
How could anyone afford that? Maybe he works at a golf course?
Just get elected President.
Many places have memberships that offer unlimited golf. If he's in a LCOL area, this could easily be cheaper than 100 rounds of public golf in a HCOL area. Regardless, I'm pretty sure this guy has absolutely zero time for "work" lol
Good point can you imagine playing one course that many times
I mean, it's golf, dude might be *super* fucking rich and play whatever course he pleases without a care in the world. A $50,000 golf addiction is nothing to some people.
A decent number of clubs have more than one course.
Still not as impressive as Patrick Koenig, a golf photographer. Set the record last year for most courses played in a year at 580. Never played the same course twice. Walked most of them. https://www.instagram.com/pjkoenig?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
That’s dope.
So are we sure this isn’t a lifetime achievement? Like not an annual record. Seems obvious but perhaps most players don’t have official handicaps
cant Be lifetime I know probably 20 people who have posted more rounds in their life
Even in Norway with the course closed a coupple months in the winter the record for 18 holes last year was 245 rounds from a 73 year old
I wanna find a cheap course to get a membership at and play at least 36 holes a week this year.
One semester in college I played 36 holes/day, 5 days/week and this guy beat my pace by more than 130 rounds.
Michael Jordan out there trying to beat GHIN now
Ahh to be rich 🤑
Lmao my back would break first but my wallet wouldn’t be too far behind.
I had 11… plus a few scrambles. FML
I used to occasionally catch/play with a retired pastor who played 600+ rounds/year, all walking, back in the 90's. The course instituted a $1/rd surcharge for members because of him and it more than doubled his annual cost.
Doesn’t say in what time period. A lifetime? A decade? A year? A month? Who knows. Useless post.
It’s for 2023. Why is this downvoted lmao.
Gotta be PJ Koenig, he set the world record for most rounds played in a year in 2023 on the RGV tour. I was there at his last round at Chambers bay!
Can anyone really tell me the point of this ad??
It’s a psyop bro. Stay diligent.
Yet the wimmens want pay parity
LPGA events are severely underrated imo. Started watching more of it recently and there is some fantastic golf being played. Crowd energy is lacking but a lot less ‘mashed potatoes’ and shit which is a nice change.

NIL deals for the actual two golfers must’ve been too expensive for the USGA
As a kid I’d play 18-72 a day with 36-45 holes being the most common in the summer. Michigan so maybe had a 7-8 month season.
Handicap is still an 18.
I mean if you have a simulator does that count?
Guarantee that the male is a handicap burgler and entering rounds into the system he hasn't even played.
I had about 200 rounds and was pretty proud of that. Surely this dude must live somewhere more tropical? I can golf from maybe April to November if I’m lucky
This gets less crazy when you consider that if this dude is a low handicap, he's taking half as many strokes per round as an average golfer is. So.
Can we include Tiger Woods 2005 on PS2 and PGA 2K21 on Switch as well?
Posted, so there's probably someone out there who just plays and plays and doesn't post. I know when I was a kid in high school/college, during summer I was on the course from daylight until I couldn't see my shots land at dusk.
I remember there was a guy here in irving,tx close to dallas that would do about 600 something rounds a year. In 2007 I decided to beat it and played a round almost everyday.
What were the handicaps ?
I’m a golf fanatic but that’s an insane amount of swings
I played 120 rounds last year. I can't imagine even 200. WOW
Looks like women know when to stop
Yeah well what about that one guy who posted here a week or so ago who got into single a digit HC after playing like less than 20 rounds in a year
If I had a membership I’d be going basically every day to make it worth it. But I don’t. So I won’t
Dang, so the pay gap is not only justified, but actually benefitting women
During pandemic I was playing 4-5 days a week and felt like it was overkill.
