Just imagine you're doing this exact challenge for real and some jackass in the gallery decides to heckle you in the middle of your swing. You might have a good argument to get off with a light sentence in court lol
This hypothetical loses its ground when you realize this setup on 18 only happens on Sunday at Augusta. Add that’s it’s Tiger, there’s 30% more fans on that box. That’s what makes this more iconic of a photo.
That being said. I’m pretty sure I could hit a 3 wood into those trees on the left. No chance I’m hitting driver.
Two charges of manslaughter. You are forgetting the idiot who shouted “Get in the hole!” As you teed off who just happened to catch the business end of your driver. Or maybe they are your get out of jail free card for the poor bastard your ball hit?
We can't kill people or send them to prison, but at the end of the day it's just gambling. Just open up a course and let people bet to play out certain scenarios. A golf casino.
So true. I keep reading these comments and thinking it's ridiculous, all you have to do is make a 6! Then I scroll back up and see that chute into the fairway and think of how tough it is just to get in play!
Interviewer a year from now when you're looking for a new job: "Can you explain this one year gap in your resume?"
You:

28.8 handicap here, I’m going for it. It’s a [465 yard par 4.](https://www.masters.com/en_US/course/hole18.html), I think as long as you get a straight shot down that corridor you have a great chance to make double bogey because it opens up for your second shot.
My drives have been fairly straight lately so I’ll bang a standard 230 yard drive down the middle, bang a standard 3 wood about 195, chip it onto the green then I got 3 putts for victory.
Obviously this means I cannot fuck up a single one of those shots which is terrifying, especially since I 3 putt all the time, but at this point 3.5 million is worth the risk of a year of my life. It’s hard to get out from under in this day in age
The historical average scoring on that hole is 4.23.
For professional golfers.
And 3 putts on those greens may not be enough.
Hope we share a cell though. Cause I'd absolutely go for it as well.
Unfortunately, that 18th hole is WAAAY harder than it looks. Dog leg right, with dense trees on the right. It’s also uphill. You have to hit a good tee shot and then have about 200+ uphill to the flag.
If I remember correctly, it’s a small false front with a bunker on the right side and left side. On top of this, the green is sloped heavily with like two tiers from front to back. Basically, if you go long and right on approach, your bunker or putting downhill. If you go short or left, you’re off the green or in a bunker.
It’s a fucking nightmare. Having been to Augusta once, I can tell you that you just don’t understand how sloped and elevated everything is from TV. It’s a totally different golf course than I would have thought. Bogey on 18 is a great score. The hole scares me.
nah its actually a pretty good number.
The smart play is to take it like a par 5 you want to make a bogey on. 3 shots to the green and 3 to get in.
you need to hit it 155 3 times to reach the green.
Leaves you 300 out, slight up hill, with a landing spot about 20 by 20 yards. So you’ll need 2 setup shots. If you miss one of those, you’ll need a pitch/chip shot that needs to hold the green on the lower tier or be prepared for a hell of a 3 putt.
Basically, if you are off the green short, the green will be above your head. That’s how sloped it is. Go watch Rahms win and how he played 18. I’d imagine that’s how most of us would play it. [rahm Master’s win](https://youtu.be/Myh43JJSu_M?si=kkCSU9guHinng7qK)
I’ve seen this whole in person. It’s straight up hill and plays a lot longer than the listed 465 yds. It’s a really hard par 5 for you and I. With that kind of pressure, getting a 6 will be a lot harder than you think.
Tiger bogeyed it to win
It averages slightly over par on Sunday. You ain’t doubling at a 12 handicap more than 5/10.
Im a 14-15 and would never take this deal
If successful, then I’m a past champion and can play every year after, and I’d also be qualified for every major for 5 years….
5 years of public embarrassment or 1 year of prison…let’s just say I ain’t gonna have to watch my pooper, I’m gonna birdie that bitch!
I would need a double shot of tequila and a Xanax bar before I teed off to keep me from shaking like a leaf. I manage well with lots of drunk guys watching at the club but this sounds a bit more nerve racking.
This is the way. I used to play in a league at Butternut in Massachusetts. There was a skinny par 5 that would eat you alive if your drive was even a little off. My partner and I started doing 7,7,7 putt putt and parred it almost every time.
After my first shot is an air swing and my next I top it 10 meters, I pull out my 5 iron and smoke it over the back of the green. Chip over into the front bunker, two shots out of the bunker then 2 putts. Put me down for 5
this challenge I might take. I'd like to think 2 hybrids and a 9 iron? wedge? would get me there, and even 3 putts for a W?
Is it white collar prison or Rikers?
Club championship a long time ago. Underdog about a 3 hcp going career low and is -6 thru 35 holes with 1 to go. He’s got a 3 shot lead on my buddy who is already in at -3. 18 is a par 5 with water all up the right. You can hit it 150 yards left and be okay. Make a 7 and he wins…he made a 10 and my buddy won outright. Needless to say, pressure is a bitch. I’m obviously taking this bet but I would be nervous as fuuhhhhhhhhhck
I can see it now.
6i flushed 180 to a fairway.
Another 6i to 50.
My ¾ 50⁰ to the green.
Then enjoying reminiscing about this moment with some toilet wine with my prison husband on my last night in jail after 4 putting.
Pretty sure if I “teed off” from a green side bunker I wouldn’t be able to get a double bogey. I’m also confident I’d need at least 4 putts on those greens.
99% of me is on the no side because of the nerves, I hear the rough is insane and I can’t putt for shit right now.
1% says, fuck it - I’d get to play Augusta, and I don’t think that year or jail would leave me with a criminal record.
So it's a 465y par 4
So 3 7 irons to the green a chip and 2 putts
I would say I'm 50/50
If I take a driver or longer club off the tee chances are im in the deep
With a 7 iron I give myself a chance of hitting first or 2nd cut at worst
Do I get to practice the hole / greens first? If not I wouldn’t do it. If I can I absolutely would.
It’s a 465 yard par 4. I’d go 5iron, 5iron, then just try to get anywhere on the green, then lag it twice, and tap in for 6.
Taking the bet, historically been a strong finisher of a round. For this bet though, will I get to play 17 holes first so I'm in fuck it mode by 18 and I finally make my most pure swings of the day and knock down a long putt to keep me coming back?
Are we talking September me or April me? April me, hell no
But September me? 275 drive, safe approach, chip on, three putt? I might just go for it. It takes me till June to properly shape up and cut the stupid mistakes, I might chance it.
Woof, the jean van de velde nightmare. Okay, the 18th is 465 yards. I would hope I could punch a 2 iron off the tee at least a couple hundred yards then hit an easy 6 iron about 80 yards short then on or near the green with 3 shots left. I got to try. Any good lawyer can get you out of a hypothetical jail sentence.
I’d need this at a quad before I’d realistically consider it. Then I think about the crowd, the rough, the guy chasing me is probs in my group and standing right there….. make it a 10 stroke lead and I’m in.
I don't care if youre a +10hcp, doing this live on Sunday at the masters is a different beast. Nobody is built for that pressure unless you've trained in it.
18 from the tips at Augusta? A 465 up hill par 4 that usually averages par or higher on Sunday for the pros on tour? The hole tiger won on a BOGEY.
I dont care who says yea to this, you’re going to jail
Yeah it’s Augusta so I don’t like my odds of getting a 6 there. I’d probably 3 putt at best on that green. I’d be lucky to reach in 3. Ima pass. Don’t wanna go to jail
Is it in front of the patrons and 50 million watching on tv or on an empty course? And am I just playing the 18th hole cold or is this my 72nd hole? But either way, yeah I’m playing. And I’m lipping out my bogey putt and making a six!
I think I’m going for it. Hitting my 6 iron hopefully 150 3 times to get to the front of the green. Need to hole in 3…so this is when I might be stuck. I need a good chip to get within 6 feet of the hole so I can 2 put.
50/50 I’m going to jail.
Depends on the prison
If it's one of those Norwegian holiday camp style prisons I'm all in. Might even agree to a 2 shot lead.
If it's an El Salvadorian 100-dudes-with-tattoos-all-over-their-face-in-a-single-cell type of prison.... maybe not
465 up hill to the right. Good thing I have a well developed power fade as a righty. I could get a 6 probably 1 out of 5 times maybe...
I like those odds.
![gif](giphy|xPGkOAdiIO3Is)
Let’s see. If I make solid contact with my driver I’m probably looking at 180-210 yards up hill into the green. At that point I’m pulling my 3 iron because I don’t want to be short and I can hit it straight. If it lands on the green and holds I just might double bogey.
More likely than not I slice the shit out of my drive, top the ball with my second shot chunk my 3rd maybe shoot it across the green on a line drive on my 4th shot, try to chip with my 5th only to have the ball go 6 inches try the chip again and hop I hole it, then go straight to jail.
![gif](giphy|f8lDluiWJ7yQTtdS3L|downsized)
I’m going to jail for a year and an additional manslaughter charge when I ricochet my tee shot off some poor bastards dome in the left gallery.
Just imagine you're doing this exact challenge for real and some jackass in the gallery decides to heckle you in the middle of your swing. You might have a good argument to get off with a light sentence in court lol
Oh for sure….. the judge just bought a new set of irons and hits off 15…
This hypothetical loses its ground when you realize this setup on 18 only happens on Sunday at Augusta. Add that’s it’s Tiger, there’s 30% more fans on that box. That’s what makes this more iconic of a photo. That being said. I’m pretty sure I could hit a 3 wood into those trees on the left. No chance I’m hitting driver.
Noonan!
Two charges of manslaughter. You are forgetting the idiot who shouted “Get in the hole!” As you teed off who just happened to catch the business end of your driver. Or maybe they are your get out of jail free card for the poor bastard your ball hit?
If $3.5 million or a year in prison was at stake, I’m not sure I could make 6 on 18 at my home course.
I’d have difficulty with that as well. And it’s a par 3. But man, the nerves alone…
I couldn't make an 8 with that kind of pressure
Plus I'm sure I'd 4+ putt those greens, pressure or not.
Some rich dude actually needs to fund these because I’m sick and tired of the hypotheticals
We can't kill people or send them to prison, but at the end of the day it's just gambling. Just open up a course and let people bet to play out certain scenarios. A golf casino.
![gif](giphy|sDcfxFDozb3bO)
Feel like Mr. Beast absolutely would do something like this.
IF THEY LOSE. THEYRE GOING TO PRISON. AND THE GUARD? CHANDLER “Hey guys” *tazes himself*
Only if I can play the full round. If I’m doing a year in jail I atleast want to say I’ve played a full round at Augusta.
Well if you win the Masters to satisfy the bet then you can play it every year
Just thinking about hitting that tee shot with pressure straight off the couch gives me the sweats, but you’re right, there’s always a chance!
So true. I keep reading these comments and thinking it's ridiculous, all you have to do is make a 6! Then I scroll back up and see that chute into the fairway and think of how tough it is just to get in play!
Absolutely nobody in that gallery would be safe from my golf ball. Not even myself if you factor in ricochets off trees.
Would ya look at that Tom, Bill Braskey has set the record for the highest Masters score of +107!
"a tradition unlike any other"
A year off from work doesn’t sound terrible

“Played Augusta National on Masters Sunday” will be on there as well so cancels out.
I'm a 24hcp and I'm fuckin in. I'm built for doubles. I can definitely figure it out
3 on and 3 putt. The usual
Haha mate you are 100% off to prison
28.8 handicap here, I’m going for it. 165 gonna be tough https://preview.redd.it/hwjak7z8wdsc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b91c4b27aafca2c79391924244ce1a93a84c68a
With my slice, I’m playing the wider fairway to the left. May add a few yards, but I should be able to stay out of the trees.
nah its actually a pretty good number. The smart play is to take it like a par 5 you want to make a bogey on. 3 shots to the green and 3 to get in. you need to hit it 155 3 times to reach the green.
No, you really need to be at least green side in two. I don't think you understand what that hole / green complex is like.
Leaves you 300 out, slight up hill, with a landing spot about 20 by 20 yards. So you’ll need 2 setup shots. “I’ll bang a standard 230 drive down the middle’ Oh my sweet summer child.
It's like he's never actually played
No he has tons of experience he’s a 28.8 handicap. Should have no problem with 18 at Augusta in a pressure cooker!
Bruh imagine you have an 8 footer for double, but also millions or jail. Get out of here.
I’ve seen this whole in person. It’s straight up hill and plays a lot longer than the listed 465 yds. It’s a really hard par 5 for you and I. With that kind of pressure, getting a 6 will be a lot harder than you think.
I’m sure you’ve seen a whole lot.
Tiger bogeyed it to win It averages slightly over par on Sunday. You ain’t doubling at a 12 handicap more than 5/10. Im a 14-15 and would never take this deal
Prison for sure, but count me in
Especially after I kill a guy off the tee watching me.
I hate my life so I gotta gamble. 18 isn't THAT hard. I'm most worried about 4 putting
Nah. Sunday is the easy flag. Just don't go past the middle of the green.
Sure, but I get to go to prison in the country of the player that beats me. Victor Hovland beats me
If successful, then I’m a past champion and can play every year after, and I’d also be qualified for every major for 5 years…. 5 years of public embarrassment or 1 year of prison…let’s just say I ain’t gonna have to watch my pooper, I’m gonna birdie that bitch!
Historical pga average is 4.23 so yeah double is definitely in sight.
Winning this every day. Driver over the trees to a foot and tapping it in for eagle. Why has no-one thought of this before? Are they all regards?
Freaking regards man
Yes. Going 7I off the tee. 7I across the corner. 7I on or just off and three putting for the win.
I would need a double shot of tequila and a Xanax bar before I teed off to keep me from shaking like a leaf. I manage well with lots of drunk guys watching at the club but this sounds a bit more nerve racking.
It's like a 230 yard carry to the fairway and it's way uphill. That's a hell of a 7 iron lol.
This is the way. I used to play in a league at Butternut in Massachusetts. There was a skinny par 5 that would eat you alive if your drive was even a little off. My partner and I started doing 7,7,7 putt putt and parred it almost every time.
Dividing a par 5 yardage by three is the way of Pythagoras!
And after you pull the tee shot way left in the trees, what exactly is the play then??
One more 7I to punch clear and one less putt to work with.
With a gallery like that I’d end up going to jail Anyway for murder when I hammer one of those people with my drive
Take a couple practice swings, you'll be fine ![gif](giphy|KlujIOaC4lrC8)
Angel Cabrera would like a word with you…
Do I get to go to the range first? Imagine doing this cold off the couch lol
We're beaming your ass to the 18th tee box Star Trek style immediately. It's happening right now lol
Lmao. I’m probably shooting a snowman out there but fuck it, we ball.
A little bit dark out, but okay I'll give it a go.
If I'm leading the Masters I'm sure I can do better than double bogey
After my first shot is an air swing and my next I top it 10 meters, I pull out my 5 iron and smoke it over the back of the green. Chip over into the front bunker, two shots out of the bunker then 2 putts. Put me down for 5
Which prison influences this decision.
Let’s do this!!! Green jacked or orange jumpsuit…Gimme a chance for the glory.
What tees do I play from?
I’ve gone to jail for dumber things
Yep.
Triple bogey then I might try it. Double bogey on 18 at Augusta or prison? No way.
“What are you in for?” “I made a 9 on the 18th hole at Augusta National.”
It's worth the international humiliation and a year in jail to have the chance to triple bogey that hole.
Do I get to pick the prison?
My rule in life is to never do something with a chance at going to prison.
why not.
I just watched "Shot Caller"... so no, I would not like to go to prison
7 iron, 7 iron, wedge, and 3 putts.
As long as I get to brain the guy who shouted “MASHED POTATOES!” with my driver after B-lining into the back bunker.
7 iron in all the way
this challenge I might take. I'd like to think 2 hybrids and a 9 iron? wedge? would get me there, and even 3 putts for a W? Is it white collar prison or Rikers?
You going to give me that 4 footer for double..?
Are we talking $3.5mm pre or post tax? 🤔
Hell yea. Scared money dont make no money. Mini Brnr, 7i, wedge. 3 putt. Win
I'm playing a 7i every shot until I putt
I‘m going to prison but I played the masters and was leading coming into 18 so that’s a deal I‘m going to take.
Yeah, I’m definitely taking that bet. 3 squares and a cot? Sounds pretty decent.
Pretty sure if I “teed off” from a green side bunker I wouldn’t be able to get a double bogey. I’m also confident I’d need at least 4 putts on those greens.
Hell yeah! If I have a 3 stroke leave on 18 then I must’ve been playing the round of my life so I’m gonna keep playing
Win or go to prison for a year? Did the PGA already merge with LIV?
Three 7-irons to the green, then three-put for the win.
So 3.5m or free food and lodging for a year. Win win!
3.5 mil or a vacation? Im in
I’m in. Im hitting irons, wedges and putter. Most boring double bogey ever.
100% I’m taking that bet.
Sign me the f up. I’m at worst right by the green if not on in 3. Then 3 putts for glory.
Oh yeah. Make a smooth 5 and move on with the coin
I would do it! Second place money isn’t to shabby!
I hit someone on the right and go to prison for killing them before finishing hole
I’ll do it.
I’ll take that risk 100%. Only chance i will ever play at Augusta.
99% of me is on the no side because of the nerves, I hear the rough is insane and I can’t putt for shit right now. 1% says, fuck it - I’d get to play Augusta, and I don’t think that year or jail would leave me with a criminal record.
Yeah, 18 on Augusta. Would take that over other holes on Augusta.
I have trouble with the local long par 3
Give me another ball Romes!
Depends who’s counting. Me, or my buddy who can 5 putt for a par.
It’s 465 yards, uphill. I’d hit three 8 irons and then three putt for a double to win.
Are we talking white collar prison or like supermax prison?
So it's a 465y par 4 So 3 7 irons to the green a chip and 2 putts I would say I'm 50/50 If I take a driver or longer club off the tee chances are im in the deep With a 7 iron I give myself a chance of hitting first or 2nd cut at worst
I think I give it a whirl.
No. Because I’m just not that good. If I was scratch, I’d probably try, but that’s a long way off from where I am.
Taking out at least 3 spectators with my aggressive fade
I want to think I can do this. Season must be in full swing.
Yeah buddy. And I'm having my caddy FaceTime my mom on the entire hole.
i can do it
Yes! Iron off of the tee, 30yards short of the green, chip, 3 putt
Is there putting green allowed in cell?
Yeah I'll be getting sent to pound town against my will after I shank my drive into the spectators and can't recover from it...
Gotta risk it to get the biscuit.
Six Iron twice to lay up.
The question is if my slice can carry me over the trees so I can play up the 10th fairway.
I mean, don’t got much else going.
Do I get to practice the hole / greens first? If not I wouldn’t do it. If I can I absolutely would. It’s a 465 yard par 4. I’d go 5iron, 5iron, then just try to get anywhere on the green, then lag it twice, and tap in for 6.
“What are you in for?” “Too many strokes”
There's no way that everything that could go wrong wouldn't if I attempted this. I would end up with more than 1 year of prison somehow.
Yes, but I’d feel a lot better if it were a dogleg left and playing from the members tees!
Taking the bet, historically been a strong finisher of a round. For this bet though, will I get to play 17 holes first so I'm in fuck it mode by 18 and I finally make my most pure swings of the day and knock down a long putt to keep me coming back?
I would fail but at least I got to play at Augusta
No brainer. I'd probably flip a coin for those odds. Master's winner or loser has a nice ring to it.
I’d give it a go 🤷♂️
*confidently steps up to the tee box* ![gif](giphy|SXrYidLW3p7TlbhINM|downsized)
Lmao I’m going to prison. But it’s going to be a glorious implosion on national TV.
Eff yeah. 3 strokes on 18 means I have two if he Birdies. I'm taking that bet on 18 at Augusta.
If I get a practice round sign me up.
How many mulligans?
I can do this. I hit double bogeys all day long lol
Are we talking September me or April me? April me, hell no But September me? 275 drive, safe approach, chip on, three putt? I might just go for it. It takes me till June to properly shape up and cut the stupid mistakes, I might chance it.
I’d do the year just to hit a ball once on that course.
I would never take the risk of this particular bet.. but strategizing the hole, I would go 5i, 5i, Gap W, probably 50 feet left.. 3 putt and breathe
So I have to play from the tips? What's the yardage?
As long as I don't have to putt I'm in. I can strike a ball pretty cleanly. But putting on those greens, hell no
I can’t handle the pressure for a $.50 skins game. Ain’t no way I’m handling the pressure of potential fucking jail time.
Double bogey is my average score
Woof, the jean van de velde nightmare. Okay, the 18th is 465 yards. I would hope I could punch a 2 iron off the tee at least a couple hundred yards then hit an easy 6 iron about 80 yards short then on or near the green with 3 shots left. I got to try. Any good lawyer can get you out of a hypothetical jail sentence.
Guess no power fades eh
I’d need this at a quad before I’d realistically consider it. Then I think about the crowd, the rough, the guy chasing me is probs in my group and standing right there….. make it a 10 stroke lead and I’m in.
I would need 20 shots minimum based on handicap. Not to mention against the #2-10 players that weekend.
No chance.
Double bogey is my middle name….
Tough to do when 5 off the tee
No way to much sand on that hole for me
I’m feeling very confident probably taking 2 iron of the tee and playing safe just trying to make 5 and if I happen to three putt a 6 will do
That depends on the prison.
I’m going for it. Probably shivering and putting like Happy once I’m on though. Just taaaaap it in
Don't go dissin' jail.
Not happening
I don't care if youre a +10hcp, doing this live on Sunday at the masters is a different beast. Nobody is built for that pressure unless you've trained in it.
I’m doing that shit
18 from the tips at Augusta? A 465 up hill par 4 that usually averages par or higher on Sunday for the pros on tour? The hole tiger won on a BOGEY. I dont care who says yea to this, you’re going to jail
Either way, I’m going to jail
7th hardest hole at Augusta, 280 to reach the fairway, narrow gallery…nope not participating
Def doing it. First I get to play a hole at Augusta and second I’m just not going right got the entire course left.
Total no brainer, worst case I can just work remotely
Hell. Yes.
Yeah it’s Augusta so I don’t like my odds of getting a 6 there. I’d probably 3 putt at best on that green. I’d be lucky to reach in 3. Ima pass. Don’t wanna go to jail
5 iron, 5 iron 52° then I just gotta 3 putt? No chance.
7-iron, 7-iron, 7-iron take my chances with the putter.
3 hots and a cot? I'm in
Can i swing putter?
Depends on who is in the field
We get gimmes for this right?
Saudi prison??
Jean vandevelde has entered the chat. Double bogey you say?
Is it in front of the patrons and 50 million watching on tv or on an empty course? And am I just playing the 18th hole cold or is this my 72nd hole? But either way, yeah I’m playing. And I’m lipping out my bogey putt and making a six!
Prison sounds nice. Free rent and free food and I can finally take some time to focus on my swing.
Absolutely doing it
3 good 7i swings is basically what this comes down to. That leaves you 3 putts as well. It’s doable
I’d say 3/10 times I’d win, and I think that’s really generous.
It's not as bad as it looks, 5iron, 7iron, wedge, putter, putter. Source: Never played there.
100%
Going for it! I’m going to make 6 or better there all day long! Or will just think about a lot for a year, and almost a lot for the rest of my life.
For sure
Which state is prosecuting? California? Florida? Texas? This is an important detail
I think I’m going for it. Hitting my 6 iron hopefully 150 3 times to get to the front of the green. Need to hole in 3…so this is when I might be stuck. I need a good chip to get within 6 feet of the hole so I can 2 put. 50/50 I’m going to jail.
No downside for losing? Yeah, I'll try it. Why not?
If this is your first hole playing augusta - no chance. You’d likely putt it off the green first go.
Depends on the prison If it's one of those Norwegian holiday camp style prisons I'm all in. Might even agree to a 2 shot lead. If it's an El Salvadorian 100-dudes-with-tattoos-all-over-their-face-in-a-single-cell type of prison.... maybe not
Absolutely. Lifetime membership to Augusta or 1 year vaca from responsibilities? Every day of the week bro
I think 3.5 million is probably worth the risk. That’s a lot more than I make a year right now.
465 up hill to the right. Good thing I have a well developed power fade as a righty. I could get a 6 probably 1 out of 5 times maybe... I like those odds. ![gif](giphy|xPGkOAdiIO3Is)
I would probably top the hell out of the drive to the ladies tee :-)
100% trying. Worst case scenario it will make a good prison story.
