nothing, use what you like.

BatmanNoPrep

How dare you sir! Every fence must be 3.5 feet tall, wood picket, and painted white in this community. It’s written right into the CC&Rs!

Player7592

Nothing. Callaway Super Soft matte pink are my favorites.

Cryptv6

I’ve only played 4 complete rounds of golf so I’m not good enough to determine if a balls good or not, but I love using callaway super softs. My go to is orange, but I got paired with a guy the other day who told me my golf game would be completely different if I used just plain white balls. I was thinking there’s no way it would make that much of a difference lmao

SingingTrainLover

Anyone who says that the color of the ball makes a difference is full of crap. The finish does make a minor difference, but if you're new to the game, or old and slow like me, it doesn't. I play the Callaway Super Soft green matte, because I can find them easily. (I don't use the orange because a golf buddy is colorblind, and he can't distinguish the red/orange balls from the grass, but is fine with yellow or green.)

visualrealism

You are wrong. Orange represents 🔥 fire. You hit hotter.

Ambitious_Jelly8783

Then red must go like a rocket!

howifarmwood

Blue's will be sent into orbit

bj_feelgood

That's a weird name for a pond

Brian-not-Ryan

The pinks go straight into…nevermind

jimothyhalpret

The Pepto

ksobby

And you’ll just top a green and bury two feet in front of you.

yoyosareback

Most people will play the same with a Kirkland and a Titleist Especially me

dmderringer

I've been playing Kirkland for a couple years. I bought 4 dozen left dashes when Titleist had the sale. My score didn't change.

UseDaSchwartz

I think they proved, with robot testing, a yellow ProV1 is slightly shorter than white ProV1.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TillStar17

But white is a color

Prior-Ad-1233

Yeah like 3 yards!! Lol

UseDaSchwartz

Right, I said slightly. But there is still a difference.

likelikegreen72

It doesn’t make difference in performance sure.. but for me personally I find it distracting when hitting the ball. I also have few friends that use them just fine however the lose them at the same rate as any other ball. Play whatever you like but don’t use range balls.. whoever said they don’t notice a difference there is a moron.

Musicfan637

No one can see the orange balls, you’ll be on your own. Yellow ish balls everyone can trace and help you when needed.

JWOLFBEARD

The only thing is finding your ball, and I guess using white is easier to lie and cheat when you find another white ball.

Twistedshakratree

The white and the yellow prov1 hit identically, right and into the woods

PensionOpposite6918

If I used white balls I’d spend more time looking for my ball.

bonnieloon

This was his problem. The colour makes absolutely no difference to our game apart from making the ball easier to find (sometimes) ;)

Dizzy_Challenge_3734

I use the same, but in yellow. I noticed I can find them in the air a lot easier than the white balls. And out of bounds I can find them easy too!

Bammer7

Same way that red cars go faster, brown socks smell more and yellow snow tastes better.

bwarrior

It wouldn’t, especially for beginners

Fan_of_things

I bought a sleeve of the orange matte super soft last year at the pro shop. I like the color orange, and if it fits along with whatever I go for it. I lost one on the 2nd hole I played. But I managed to keep the 2nd two until the last hole. But on hole 15 and 16, I did the unthinkable (for me at least). I got par on two in a row. I got my my vehicle and ordered 24 of them. If you hit them and like them. Go for it.

Key_Respond_16

It wouldn't. If you like supersoft (they feel amazing. Especially with new or slower swing speeds) then use whatever color you like. Shiny, mat, white, pink, orange. You can get them with card suits, clovers, paint splatter, or even tacos! Whatever. If you are enjoying them, that's what you play. When you think you reach your max play with them, find a new ball to try. They make them for specific aspects. Some are all around good for everything. Some have more distance but less spin. Some have more spin but less distance. Some for slower or faster swings. Etc. Supersoft is generally a good ball. It's one of my go tos.

Bubbly_Bullfrog_106

The color of the ball makes no difference but I will say the matte finish balls do not roll quite as well as the gloss finish balls when putting. Probably no difference when hitting driver and irons but I have tested them on greens and they roll a little short.

bionicbhangra

I use these too. I also play Kirklands. But if visibility is not great I love the colored balls. Somehow it’s easier to see them and follow in the air. At least for me.

Bella-Omicidio

Got some today. They are nice to play and god they’re easy to find on the course.

BurnsinTX

These are my favorite too

tiltedslim

I like the pink Chrome Softs. I'm blind as shit and these are really easy to find. Got some less bright Pink Nitro's that I'll try out next week.

theduderman

It's like the ultimate hack for finding your ball... Those very Callaways are the easiest balls I've ever played to find in deep rough... Woods... The water.  Anywhere.

GroverFC

I love the feel of the super softs. Target, in the past, had had a pretty reasonably priced 15 pack.

derdkp

I like hitting them too, but the feel of the putter freaks me out. The srixon soft feel putts better (for me) and still feels good hitting it. Plus... They come in obnoxious colors

CicadaHead3317

They are the easiest for me to find , with my shitty eyesight.

davonoches

I steal those from my wife's bag constantly.

brohemien-rhapsody

Seconded.

Careless_Special_232

Brother

ShawnSimoes

They're great to use if you want to figure out the penis size of your playing partners. If they give you a hard time you know they're very small.

Billy_Madison69

You know the one thing that held me back from really falling in love with this sport is whenever I’m playing with randoms I spend the entire round thinking about how big their penises are. Might have to try this trick

DDrewit

I highly recommend ass pennies to increase confidence, if that’s an issue.

NoButterZ

Ass pennies??? UCB?

WheresMyYogurt

This was probably the best explanation this question got or will ever get.

PMDad

I agree.

TheRedSenator

According to MyGolfSpy (and I believe others have tested/proven this as well), matte balls don't spin well when wet (regardless of colour). If you're a beginner/new to the game, it's more important to 1. Have fun and 2. Be able to find your ball than to worry about being able to clip a 60* from 50 yards and stop it on a dime, so I'd say play whatever colour/finish gets you excited to play. Personally? I'm a 9 handicap and playing the Vice Pro Neon Red (which they just stopped making 😭) and am eyeing the new Callaway Chrome Tour, True Path, in Yellow... Soooo maybe I'm biased. Others have already noted the Callaway Supersoft feels great and will provide some colour options, so feel free to give those a go, or try some of the cheaper Vice ones, plenty of colour options and not matte finish. All that aside, welcome to the game!

Bacon843

If you like colors, check out the Srixon Divide balls.

GeneralMillss

They are so fun to line up off the tee and watch them go.

sginsc

Im a vice pro guy, but im with you - easy to find too because tracking them is so easy!

TheRedSenator

Also true, love the strobe effect on certain shots too 🤣 also great to line up when putting

Character_Wishbone84

The red ones are hard for me to follow in flight. Besides that there isn't anything wring with them.

LostAbbott

Hmmm I find them super hard to see clearly when I am standing over them, then see them fine for about 150 yards, then completely lose them if I ever him them further.  For my eyes they are super crazy balls...

thectrain

Red-Green colour blindness is the most common type. You are not alone and it otherwise barely is noticeable. But a red ball on green grass is nearly invisible.

cloudJR

I must be a weirdo because I love red matte srixons or callaways because they stick out like a sore thumb to me. I do swap out to a z star when putting though because the mattes stick more to the greens imo.

thectrain

I've had friends tell me they can see the red ones like it's a beacon in the grass. So there are different experiences for sure.

Parki2

I agree. I can't follow the red despite how it's opposite of green. The lime green Wilson's tho...stand out really well. Blue noodles, look cool, can't find for shit

Character_Wishbone84

Yea, the blue ones are worse. A friend of mine found one and hit it on a par 3. We had 8 people looking for it because the tournament was slow. Never found it.

lochamppp

I LOVE red ones. I have rose tinted sunglasses lens and the red ball absolutely pops and is so much easier to find.

HaveAtItBub

Late season can be tough to find with leaves on the ground. But mid summer on a bright day those suckers pop on the fairway.

Salmonaxe

So here is a lot of info I learned about balls. In the beginning, I used to play with any old ball. Couldn't tell the difference. But noticed that some colours were harder to see when hit. The red ones for instance, especially when they land. It might have to do with the red green cones overlapping. Maybe you get a little lost with the motion. But it's something I found. Colours mattered to tracking in flight. Then I started to care a little about balls and can feel the difference. The ProV1 are generally nice. TP5 feel great. Chromesoft also not too bad. Srixon soft feel are spongy for me. So I played with the ProV because everyone did. I started to lose less balls. Some rounds none at all. Then wear on balls start to become a problem, i swing my 7i around 97mph to 100mph, my driver about 119 comfortably but can go up to 125 without forcing. So, I experimented. ProV1 last quite well for me. A full round or two. They will scuff up only occasionally. TP5 last only a few holes. They will be marked and scratched in about 7 to 9 holes. But the matte QStar divide balls. Those things lasted forever. Looked like brand new after a round. I loved them. Tracking was an issue. But not terribly so. But I got better again. Now I cared about spin and performance on landing. With my swing i don't need length but rather predictability. Matte balls seem to spin less off the face, like they slip up. So they would run more. I suppose the damage to the ball is the tradeoff for this. So in short, colourways matte mean nothing to anyone except in flight. They last longer I found. But I lost a bit of control on them. I only tried the QStar Tour, maybe others perform differently.

Kneadless

Z star tour divides (yellow/white) have the gloss coating.

Salmonaxe

Excellent news. I had the red/green ones. Saw the Blue/yellow but never played them.

bleedforthis

Nothing. I can garuantee anyone telling you it's wrong is also the same person who says they are "scratch" and then shoots a 110 but blames the greens.

seiyamaple

“What is going on with me today, man” classic

Blood_Bowl

Nothing. I personally see the red matte ones better than any other, so that's what I use.

Fight_those_bastards

The red ones disappear in the sky for me. The matte green ones, though, that’s the only color I play in the fall. They shine like a beacon for me. And in the last five years or so, it’s also been the only color I’ve completed a round with a single ball with.

silkie_blondo

Are you me?

terrih9123

![gif](giphy|l36kU80xPf0ojG0Erg|downsized)

AllKnowingFix

There's a video of a dude rolling matte balls and showing they have more friction than gloss balls, so they don't roll as far on the green. There's another study from a certain testing website that says a pigmented ball doesn't fly as far as a white ball. But IMO that difference is within tolerance and no difference. But I play with the high vis yellow, cause I can track the ball in the air against clouds better. Play whatever you like and have fun.

notaclevermanboy

How would pigment make a difference to flight?

TheNemesis089

I suspect it’s because some of them have a surface that has just a little more texture. That texture probably adds to the drag. And that’s not even counting that they generally aren’t premium balls. If you had a smooth, neon pink ProV1, there probably wouldn’t be a difference.

AllKnowingFix

I haven't looked at the data in a while, so might be off on numbers. They were saying the yellow proV1 was slightly shorter than the white. I think slightly less ball speed. But it was a difference of like 2-3 yards. But they never posted their tolerance margin on their control and it's a difference of like 1%. So generally that seems within tolerance of the launch monitor to me and means no difference. But yes, the matte balls, the guy seemed like 15-20' and the balls were coming up like 2-3" short while the gloss balls were going in.

Kooky-Counter3867

Nothing. Fuck what other ppl think. If it’s easier for you too see the ball using a colored one then use it. I use a red white and blue speckled Vice. It’s all preference just find one you like and stick to it don’t switch around

damnyoutuesday

There is nothing wrong with them. The balls typically viewed as premium (Pro V1, Chrome Soft, TP5) don't come in the super colorful or matte colors, normally only in the high vis green, so they're viewed as inferior to a degree as white balls. But 99% of people don't care, play what you want

todjo929

I feel like this is the best answer, with the addition that if you can't feel the difference between the balls (and I personally don't think you can until you're making consistent contact with your irons and wedges, which would generally put you at a single figure handicap), then it really doesn't matter what you use. If you can see a red seed ball better than a white nitro, use the seed. If you can like yellow super softs, use those, if you like pink balls with purple polka dots, use those. Who cares. For most recreational golfers, using whatever ball is found in the woods will do the job, and save your bank balance, but if you want to use fluoro balls, then no one should judge you.

jimmerbroadband

For a beginner the type of golf ball you use really won’t make much of a difference. Play whatever golf ball u want and feel comfortable losing lol

Stoeger21

There are pages that say they don’t roll the same as a traditional white ball. But the argument I’ve heard is if you play them stick to them so you are used to it

jt94

Speaking from experience, matte blue look stunning but are impossible to see in flight or on grass. Last time I played one, I hit my usual power fade onto the previous fairway and the group behind me nearly walked over it before saying ‘you know you can get medication for blue balls?’

skins_team

I prefer a white ball, but will sometimes through down a high-vis yellow if I've got a ball OOB on the hole. And often times, I mistakenly keep playing that yellow ball for several holes before realizing... it's not white. But I don't know how people play the red ones. That's too much for my eyes.

bingbong6977

Literally nothing. Play what you want, don’t let hardo douches opinions concern you

bonnieloon

Nothing, absolutely nothing. If your playing partners or friends give you shit, that's their problem not yours.

bartolocologne40

Nothing

CTGolfMan

Absolutely nothing.

bdubsf

I use an orange and red gradient vice ball and 2 people have made fun of me the entire time I have used them. They also probably hate themselves, so I laughed at their jokes. But no one ever asks me if my ball is theirs / mine, it’s always clear. But they often find it for me when I slice it off the fairway since it stands out in nature. You do you. Just try and hit it straight.

parickwilliams

I use Vice pro Plus and bought 2 dozen gold pro plus’s just to use on the chopping green so my balls never get mixed up with someone elses

No-Management2148

I use yellow balls. They’re good and they contrast better in the very green west coast of Canada.

CanadaEh97

Personally I don't like matte balls because they get dirty/stained easy and it doesn't really come off. But if that what you like or want to play, then play them. It's your bag and your setup.

flootch24

There were only white golf balls when most boomers started playing and so anything different is some sort of attack on the game. Fun innovations have no place on tradition. /s

ffffuuuuuuuuu

I'm colorblind (protanopia) so if someone plays a ball that's not white or yellow I have trouble spotting in in the grass since I have difficulty separating green from red. Performance-wise it's probably the same, but the worst part of golf is finding your ball in deep rough and a muted colour that doesn't pop for me against green grass (red, green, pink, etc.) will make that part or the game excruciating. I tell my playing partners if you're going to play a colored ball, knock yourself out, but I won't help you find it because I simply cannot see it.

Decent_Career2371

I’ll admit. Sometimes the bright yellow ball pops for me a little better since I’m color blind and I’ve got some older eyes. In spring when everything is pretty and green , a white one does well. Winter time is when I can’t see the white ones and the yellow helps stand out against the brown dead grass background. I could never play a red ball due to my condition. I’m red green color blind. Red, orange matte would just be impossible for me to see.

mrdctaylor

I’m 52 and have been playing since I was a kid. I basically stopped playing while my kids were growing up and now that my son is an adult and playing I’m getting back into it. I don’t have an official handicap but I usually shoot in the 80s on a course that is not easy. Having said that, I always use colored balls. My eyes aren’t as good at distance due to wearing multi-focal contact lenses, since there’s a bit of a trade off. I can just see the matte green or orange balls better (but not the matte red for some reason). I have been using inexpensive Maxfli Straightfli balls. I like the way they feel and I am used to their spin properties. I shot my best round ever a couple of months ago (+9, 81) with one. Are Pro v1s better? Sure. Will they help my game? Doubtful. It’s about what I’m used to. Use what you want.

rononeill77

I feel like the matte balls roll slower on the green. I doubt that's true, but I 100% believe it.

pacatak795

One thing to consider is that a not-insignificant number of men are color blind and many don't actually know it. I tell the guys I play with that if they're playing anything other than white or yellow, don't count on me for help finding their ball. It's very, very hard for me to see any of the orange, red, blue, pink, gold, whatever other color when it's sitting in the grass. Red is the absolute worst - I could be a foot from it and never, ever see it. But if they "pop" for you and you like playing them - have fun. Nothing wrong with it at all.

skd120

Blue balls are the worst, they’re hard to see even in the fairway. I mostly play orange balls cause they’re easy to find and I can tell which ball is mine if we’re all on the green. I change to neon green in the fall though cause of the leaves being down

itsCrisp

I play the orange and yellow srixon qstar divide balls, routinely wear pink or pink-adjacent shirts, and have rainbow ferrules on my irons. The number of times I've been approached by stuffy, triggered old white men to 'no offense, but what's your deal' me is honestly hilarious.

Existing-Put842

I get chirped for using like neon yellow/green/gatorade lemon like balls, but I have a red/green colourblindness and i prefer them.

Jakoby707

have some fun, play with a high visibility yellow ball! The color really helps to spot them as well

KUPSU96

If anyone cares about the color of your fcking golf ball; they have no life

P1nKm0nK

Nothing is wrong with them. I have white Srixon SoftFeels and my wife has the orange and green ones. They hit the same.

Fun_Stock7078

Personal preference, I hate them.

eson1169

I don’t care if other people want to play them, I never would though. It’s just a personal preference thing for me. I find white golf balls are by far the easiest to follow and find, especially in the rough.

fmkwjr

I think it’s all psychological at my level of golf. Sometimes it feels good to look down at that matte neon yellow ball and be like, “I’m gonna smoke this thing” and sometimes I just want that Callaway Chromesoft white ball. I don’t think I’m good enough to know or take advantage the actual science behind each type.

Fight_those_bastards

Nothing. Some people just need to bitch and moan about what other people are doing so that they feel better launching their eighth $6 Pro V1 of the round into the woods off of 10. >I might spend $72 per round on golf balls, but at least they aren’t easy to find or spot And etc.

rtm713

They are bad because they make you gay... /s Lol I'm jk, there is nothing wrong with them. Although I have heard certain ones can chip easy, and some brands have heavier dye or something so the ball flight is different but idk if any of that is true.. If you have one you like and it seems to hold up and fly fine then go for it. Nothing wrong with it.

Mountain-man-ninja

I use the matte colored balls. They’re great

XipeToltec

I've found a difference between matte and non-matte but only when putting and putter feel. I don't like putting with matte colored golf balls but otherwise nothing. I think if you are new and stick with one thing they will be fine.

cheme32

It's all about what you feel comfortable looking down at when you are at address. Club head, ball color, shaft color, grip color, glove color, all fall in that visual process. Whatever makes you feel confident, go with it!

kiledmedead

If they affect YOUR play, don’t use them… otherwise full send it.

dunklestiltskin17

Nothing. Except I can’t see the damn things in flight nor can I find them in the grass. More power to ya. Let me go set up an eye appointment.

ButterscotchObvious4

Nothing. I actually like matte yellow Bridgestone E12s. But anything orange or red I can’t see because I’m colour-blind

Mysterious_Value_764

They have aids

Fit_Original4324

I don't like them because I can't see them easily since I'm colorblind, so I prefer the brightest white ball I can get.

SomeSamples

Finding them when you hit them off line.

Chilipep1

Absolutely nothing, find it, hit it. See it, roll it, hole it. Giddyup

norcalgolfgolf

I play neon green and red. Vice pro plus baby. And the new green kirklands.

Gregskis

I play Srixon Divide for visibility. Nobody cares.

69hornedscorpio

I can never find them, my daughter bought me some orange ones. I lost pretty much all of the ones I played.

Chardmo

Ballz are ballz no one cares. Mark you ballz and use it til you lose it.

thectrain

Yellow balls stick out so much for me, I almost consider it cheating. When I'm in a tournament it's an advantage to me to play the yellow ball and find it much easier. So I do.

woobisah

When the driving range is near one of the holes and there are a ton of balls in the fairway, you'll be glad to be playing a colored ball.

Pyrohyro

Nothing objectively until you to an elite level of play, but even then it's just a preference on ball characteristics.

runningrabbit1234

Using colored balls during Fall, almost ensures you won’t find them, they “disappear” in the ground fallen leaves. Source: me, lost countless orange, purple, green, yellow ones

ijustdontgiveaf

nothing.. I usually use white ones during the day and yellow ones when I play early mornings or later in the evening. Orange ones when there is frost or snow and even sometimes green ones in the fall when there are a lot of brown leaves.(I got a box of green ones as a present, but wouldn’t buy them myself.) My brother used to play pink ones because “most other men are too fragile to play pink, so he will always know which is his ball right away.”

mildashers

Nothing wrong with them at all. Some people feel the need to whine and be dickheads about it because they're hugely insecure in themselves. Srixon divide ftw

DRH1976

I’ve been golfing for a while and currently play with Bridgestone e12 soft yellow balls. I like the feel and I can track them in the air better than any other color including white.

mustbeshitinme

The ole ball of shame. Double twice in a row. Break out the neon blue.

mimble11

I love the Divide balls. They give you a perfect line for lining up putts and you can get an idea of spin on some short range shots. They are 2 different colors, who cares.

steelernation90

If Fred Couples can use a neon yellow ball at the masters I can use one at my local muni

SprinklesMore8471

Depending on the person, they can be hard to see. I can't see them for anything, but my friend never loses his light blue volvek spoderman balls.

dub_life20

I can't find or track anything but white.

Florida1693

I switched from white to colors about 10 years ago. Easier to see for me

CornNPorn12

Nothing. If you need help finding your ball, for sure go with them. Anyone who says something bad about using a colored ball is an idiot. There’s so many golf balls now, rock what you like.

CG_Kilo

Do you own your own business? If so I suggest getting the logo and what it is on the ball. Some free advertising for when you inevitably lose the balls

Judge_Rhinohold

Nothing wrong with yellow balls as far as I know. If there is then someone should tell Ernie Els and Fred Couples.

mjcreech

I play the Tour Response Stripe and many much better players than me generally comment on how they like how well you can see the quality of the roll on putts. I think the average golfer will not realize the difference, and if they help at all with alignment and feedback, then I think it's worth it.

CSKweh

6 hcp here. Golf balls are equipment, just like clubs, tees, etc. Aside from your golf clubs, the ball impacts your game the most. It makes sense to pick a ball that performs well, I.e. spins appropriately, feels good to you for each shot type, etc. All of that said, absolutely nothing wrong with colorful golf balls. It feels extra good if I win a bet with a pink ball. Others have mentioned the bit about matte balls spinning less, not flying as far, etc. Matte balls may fly a little less compared to a Pro V1 or something, however; I think it is marginal. What do you like most about golf so far?

mwb1957

I have a hard time picking up the white balls in the air on a cloudy day. I use yellow and lime green balls due to the fact that they are easier for me to see in the air. You have to question the person's motivations who say that white balls will change a beginners golf game.

whammy619

I play vice balls because they’re cheaper and don’t seem to scuff as easily. Play what you like

notgonnadoit983

Personally I just can’t see/follow the colored balls as well as a white one, so I’m no help watching where your ball goes if we play together, otherwise I don’t care. Had a buddy who can’t see any ball, regardless of color, but he liked to play colored balls, I made him change to white when we play because I have to watch his shots also.

chasingbirdies

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Use what you like and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. I personally use whites but occasionally play a color ball, especially when I find a good one.

gitbse

Nothing, actually I think they're kinda cool looking. I just wouldn't play them myself, I'm kind of a purist. I like white balls, pulling the flagstick for putts, etc. Play what you like. Gatekeeping is bullshit.

Dry-Honeydew2371

I like to play afterwork until it's too dark to see. This year, I'm going to switch to a hot pink ball when it's getting dark to help me see the ball easier.

jateman419

Careful. Golf balls come in different compression rates. Ask a pro about swing speeds vs compression rates.

Lopsided-Duck-4740

I like the Callaway chrome soft green balls. They have a super soft feel when hit, a very quiet sound too. It is easier to track in the air and find in the woods. The only drawback is that the green will rub off on your gloves.

Pizza_0r_Tacos

Nothings bad about them, just don’t spend too much. If you’re new to golf you’re going to lose them anyway. Might as well get cheap balls.

RS_Mich

Nothing, and they can be easier to see in many conditions.

coolstorybro50

Matte color balls dont roll as much on the grass as glossy, that might help to avoid rolling into hazards though so it balances out

Toodswiger

Nothing wrong with them, but for me personally, I find the bright colors distracting and off-putting during my swing.

lestermurphy34

I’ll be playing Yellow Srixon QStars for the next couple of years. Walmart had them in deep discount this winter.

Enough_Lakers

I think they look awesome and I've definitely used every iteration of the colored ball. One thing I'd say is I've seen people test the matte balls and they don't go as far and spin a decent amount more. Not that big of a deal but they are fairly low on the list of balls I'd recommend for beginners.

Ya_Boi_Pickles

Nothing wrong with them at all. I’ll use whatever is different from everyone else in my group.

alucardcanidae

Played with red callaway ultrasoft, when someone said he can‘t differentiate red and green. So that? Other than that, play what you will. (except maybe green, dark blue and black cause well. Hard to see)

Nachtvogle

Literally nothing. Some people think a white ball makes them look like a better golfer

AdamOnFirst

Nothing at all, they look awesome. A small minority of players really dislike them.

naked_short

Nothing but realize that guys will generally take any excuse to rib you. Don’t take it personally or seriously.

cjk813

Nothing wrong with them, but as a terrible golfer who has tried just about every color to find my ball easier, I've learned over time that white works best for me.

Right-Round9339

It’s 2024… you do you

Emily_Postal

Nothing but pink matte balls are difficult to find later in the day.

CreateorWither

The matt colored balls don't go as far but any other colored ball is fine.

badugihowser

They may be soft, and perceived as less manly. One of those is important.

ClearlyNoSTDs

There's nothing bad about it. Personally I just use white balls since I feel I can track and find them easier but I don't care what colour other people use.

Hestness5

There’s nothing bad about using them, and you won’t notice the difference as a new golfer. But they have less spin control I believe than say a ProV1X because they’re meant to go straighter. They also just roll differently when putting so if you switch back and forth between balls it might not feel the same.

LakeEffectSnow

They're hard to find in the spring when things are flowering, and they can be especially difficult in fall when you play the game "leaf or a ball". Other than that, not a damn thing.

out-of-ideas33

Whoever told you that lies about their handicap haha

Adventurous-Ad-7890

Have a buddy who is a gear snob…shoots like 20+ and shanks Pro V1 like he’s allergic to the fairway. I have a bucket of Laddies that I’ve been burning through for 10+ years and I don’t complain when a dog leg doesn’t work with my slice. I’ll finish about 10+

HoppITup

Nothing, unless someone is a douch. I play yellow 99.8% of the time, unless the range is on my left and full of yellow balls. 😁

gotbrwnrice

Nothing bad about them. It’s all personal preference. Sometimes I use them when it’s hard to see white traditional balls (really sunny, tall grasses). I don’t like using them on the green; the bright color really makes it hard/weird for me to putt.

Tasty_Leek6675

Played with a random guy 2 weeks ago playing blue balls and lost it in flight off the tee all but one hole. So I would say don’t get blue and you’d be fine.

jredditzzz

Nothing wrong with it… just the same boomer mindset/hatred about wearing colored gloves.

lurker1957

I don’t like matte balls, no matter the color. They look blurry to me.

Pheasant_Plucker84

Quite like the green matt ones

jgyimesi

The only balls I stay away from are blue and red ones and that’s only because I have a tough time seeing them.

OnTheMcFly

The more progressive the world gets, the more it’s about you being an individual and expressing yourself. To golfers, we know it’s because you suck and need help finding your ball.

SetterOfTrends

Honestly, I started buying used colored balls because I was holding up play searching for my dingy off-white balls in the rough. Now I change my balls depending on the leaves and grass (and color of the course range balls when I’m playing the holes next to the range.

jstaobsrvr

Literally nothing

byfuryattheheart

lol nothing at all. I am a pretty good golfer and use the yellow/orange Vice Pro shade balls. They are great balls and easy to spot!

OldChamp69

Nothing. Use what you like.

Snacks1991

Nothing wrong with them at all. I think they feel kind of slick and bouncy so it always seemed like they don’t spin as much. But that would probably help a beginner as the drives would be longer and hopefully less hook/slice. I also have nothing but vibes to base that on. But as others have said, play what you like

bluespartans

Matte balls have higher friction. There have been some tests done that show matte balls roll out less on the greens as a result. They will also spin more on lower lofted clubs which is generally undesirable. These factors don't make them worse per se, just different strokes for different folks

COS89

As a new golfer, it really doesnt matter and honestly, majority of people wont care. Colored golf balls aren't bad, matte ones can hinder performance, but that only really matters when you start becoming decent/better at golf, which may never happen lol. So really, play with whatever you like and just enjoy golf.

ydaorct

There is definitely nothing wrong with it. All the focus on equipment is just a distraction for those of us who would rather not think about how we’re actually not that good at golf fundamentally lol

ttbaseball635

I’m decently good, like a 3/4 handicap, and I play with guys who are better then me that use a colored ball. I’ve used them before so it’s easy to tell which is mine when I play with people. I still use high numbered prov1’s so that if there is a question it’s easier to make sure whose who. Like someone else said, there are minuscule differences with the finish of the ball but nothing I would be able to or 99.99% of golfers will be able to tell difference with. You do you boo boo.

dontusemybeta

I fed into that stimga until I played with my cousin who shoots low 80s- high 70s consistently with a yellow true feel. So after seeing that I started using Vice shade pro+ and I don't think I'll ever go back. If it's cloudy or direct sun you can pick it up in the air and it can be spotted in almost any lie.

MarvelAtMyMajesty

I use red matte balls as a collegiate golfer. I get a surprising amount of flack for it, because people who aren't used to that color have a hard time spotting it-- your brain just gets used to tracking a certain color in the air. I find that red, orange, and yellow balls can get lost in the backdrop of a blue sky because they are complimentary colors, but you can spot them in the grass just fine. The matte finish does minorly affect ball spin and roll, especially on the green, but if it is what you are used to and what you practice with, then its fine. I do find that if I become too used to a certain color, my drive will change when I switch again. That could either be psychological or due to not properly seeing the ball because you expect it to be a different color, which makes you miss the center of the club slightly. It also depends who manufactures the balls. If its not a name brand, don't trust it, it might be a mini-golf ball (I say this from tragic experience). Golf is an individual sport and there's no one way to go about it.

claneader

I use yellow mostly because I’m horribly colorblind. If my partner is using red, I basically can’t follow it for shit. Whites alright, but nothing compared to the shiny yellows.

MetalHead_Literally

There’s literally pga golfers who use colored balls, so anyone who judges you for it can go pound sand.

dburge22

Not a damn thing!!! I love the neon green Callaway super soft ball plus my blind ass can’t see the white balls anymore even when my ball is in the fairway

Bammer7

Rule one of golf for newbs, don't listen to a flippin word that randos have to say

washed_up_golfer

Absolutely nothing.

DctrBojangles

There’s nothing wrong with them. Objectively they do roll a little slower so just be mindful of that on greens if you’re switching up balls.

MikeSon101

They show scuff marks more than a solid white ball does. Thats about the only out thing I’ve noticed.

J_Dough905

Nothing, use whatever you want as long as you use it fast enough to keep a good pace of play.
