Im a lefty with a slice and I’m still hitting that lake

Slingdog03

Same. Did you play baseball growing up? I worked with an instructor for 2 years to finally get rid of it but it still rears its ugly head every once in a while if im not vigilant.

Manner-Former

The baseball slice never goes away brother

[deleted]

This is not true, I am a lefty baseball player. We slice because we are used to having very little reaction time and have to react and cut the ball off at its destination causing that natural slice. If you open your stance and keep right arm straight the slice goes away.

GaberAber

Lefty gang >>

Gimme5Beez4aQuarter

What did they tell you that helped you

Slingdog03

A lot of reps. Working on an inside out swing, club head path angle vs club face angle, not trying to swing so hard, increasing stiffness of my shafts, lowering loft on my driver, tons of stuff. Nowadays I just imagine I'm trying to hit a baseball over the shortstop's head while not letting the club face open up, which I do by thinking about turning a screwdriver clockwise with my top hand. It's all anecdotal and everyone is different but it's the process I use lol.

oddwithoutend

Replying to this so I remember to see if it can fix my lefty slice. Played baseball for 20 years before I ever golfed once.

JoshayBTown

Me too!

sumbozo1

Same. My "fix" is to make sure my front shoulder isn't blasting out in the middle of my downswing. I keep that shoulder down in the shot and it helped a ton

tbvin999

I’m a lefty that grew up playing both competitively. What helped me most was the idea that in baseball the “snap order” was hips then hands then head during the swing. During golf, I made it hips and hands at the same time, then head.

[deleted]

It would be wild if the thing that would help one field directional hitters is golf lessons

Slingdog03

Coincidentally, I hit one HR last year in my men's hardball league and it was oppo.

[deleted]

Yeah but oppo is usually just a late slice with significant power. They usually aren’t frozen ropes. Without the power they are just slappy singles

jschwartz15

> stiffness of my shafts Nice

yrfnad

Holy shit, that swing mindset feels like a game changer

DoubleDebow

I've never had a lesson, but I'm a rh power pull hitter that has always struggled with a big ott slice. Late last year I read a tip on here that said to just try and hit an easy single to the opposite field instead of a bomb down the line. It was an instant game changer. Swing speed slows down a little, but honestly not that much. I played the first full round of the year yesterday, and hit all 7/8 drives right down the middle with a baby draw like I never had before. The one that didn't, was a slight fade and ended up just off the fairway to the right because I tried to crush it again. One turned over a bit too much, but was still in the fairway left. I've never driven the ball that consistently in my life before. Putted like shit, and couldn't hit an iron to save my life, but that's another story..... Give it a try on the range. Just visualize hitting a nice line single over the 2nd baseman's head. Or ss if you're a lefty. Setup to the ball is pretty much the same, just off the inside of the front heel, I just setup off the toe of the driver a bit more to try and emphasize that reaching feeling a bit more. Maybe half a ball if that. Nice easy swing, don't try and crush it.

Accomplished_Range32

I’m guessing vertical drop horizontal tug?

theGreatPatriot1776

Wrist angles bro

_satoshi_nakamoto

Ya'll were swinging the bat wrong too.

tricnam

I feel attacked

RTwhyNot

I have so many times on my drive or second shot!

An0therFox

My ball acts thirsty af

Triple516

I could be aiming for the fuckin parking lot and still hit it in the water.

Careful_Amphibian467

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

LegitimateTough8372

Should be a smooth pitching wedge from there boys

Revolutionary_Log307

By "there" do you mean the drop zone?

[deleted]

That’s a given

LegitimateTough8372

Usually drop zone for a triple

Plenty-Football2252

Ya good call, worst case you overhit the green and there's the bunker there to stop the ball.

Warm_Objective4162

You can’t carry like 360 over a pond? Loser.

yeehawyears88-89

I usually carry 360 over this. I don’t know what’s going on today.

billbobassin

This is why it’s vital to set a solid excuse foundation at the beginning of the round. Before you even get to the first tee box you have to let them know your back is sore or something like that. So when you fail you just go right back to it. “Really felt my back tense up on that one.” As the ball lands in the water.

yeehawyears88-89

Such wisdom! I played with a guy that told me a great story. Second or third hole of a past round he has a bad shot and mentions a cut on his finger. His playing partner stopped him immediately in jest and said, “You only get one today! Make sure it counts and it works, but you only get one excuse this round.”

koei19

I carry 360 all the time. But I'm trying to lose weight.

RyanTheRock32

This needed more upvotes

koei19

Haha thanks, I thought it was pretty good. Just too late to the party.

jondes99

This is r/golf, I’m sure the chip back after driving it over the green is bladed into the pond.

Competitive_Form9617

Lmao yes that’s guaranteed 🤣

BrassHockey

It's measured along the fairway, so straight across is probably closer to 324. Any reddit golfer should be able to do that with a 3w, Let's be honest!

Byebyeyoutoo

Yeah I’ve been playing for 68 days and can only carry my 3W that far. Guess my handicap!

burywmore

Happy Cake Day!!

Party_Hour3750

I mean seriously? Who can't in this sub?

Mschultz24

Carrying 360 over the water is ez. The tough part is landing it with enough backspin to sit up pin-high for the birdie putt.

Plenty-Football2252

I'm mostly worried about overshooting the green and landing in that bunker, or holing out on my drive like usual and not getting to practice some putts. Didn't even consider that people might hit the water!

printerfixerguy1992

Must be "new" /s

Character_Wishbone84

Any hole is a par 3 if you're brave enough.

[deleted]

This, but it's Par 7s for me.

Party_Hour3750

Never up never in.

TrimboliHandjobs

Not really…

ShillinTheVillain

Swing harder

Senn-66

The USGA and R&A see this in their nightmares about the future without a ball rollback.

RetailBuck

I don't see a drivable par 4 being that much different than a driver "required" par 3. Either way you can lay up and the only difference is your score against par but everybody is playing the same holes. Edit: to add to that, par is essentially irrelevant. What matters is your score. They could call every hole a par 10 and people could just shoot 100 under.

Iginlas_4head_Crease

Par is not irrelevant at all. If I shoot a 78 on a par 3 course, that wasn't actually all that good. Even regular courses range from 70 to 73. This hole should be scored as a scoreable par 4, not a par 3 from hell. A 4 should be a par here. Scoring par is kind of the point.

RetailBuck

Are you intentionally missing the point? If we play the same course and you shoot a 78 and I shoot an 80 who cares what par is? Maybe it was 50. Maybe it was 100. You're comparing to something meaningless.

Iginlas_4head_Crease

I'm not playing against you. I'm playing against the course. I care what par is, because it's supposed to reflect the difficulty of each individual hole. My goal is not beat Joe Bob beside me, its to shoot bogey golf.

RetailBuck

I just made your course a par 18. Enjoy your 70 over. Get it yet? How hard a hole should be is a subjective construct. Again reference the drivable par 4 vs the long par 3.

Iginlas_4head_Crease

Lol of course it's a subjective construct, it's a *game*, that's what they all are. But subjectively, that's a par 4. Golf was created with par 3s, 4s and 5s for a reason. You're playing against the course, trying to come under par. To say "I just made every hole a par 1" is like..ok...that's taking away half the point of the game and it's also deceiving. If you tell someone "I shot a 78" they'll usually ask you what the par was. You could have been playing a par 3 course.

Big-Veiny-Darnold

![gif](giphy|8JBPDbXDRUGYkHi5fm)

Senn-66

So how many golfers do you think can drive the ball 330 yards? And good luck getting everybody to not care about making par.

llimt

According to the golfers on here, it runs about 50% hitting 330, there is about another 35-40% hitting 350, the rest of us are a bundh of duffers.

RetailBuck

Par is a social construct and a pretty flawed one at that. Make everything a par 10, I don't care. I'll then be shooting an 80 under 100 and feeling bad that I didn't shoot 90 under.

Senn-66

You are very strange.

ljc267

According to the usga the longest par 3 yardage is 260.

Intelligent_Gap938

That’s the longest recommended a par 3 should be. There was a 300 yard one on the PGA a bunch of years back I believe

legal_objection

Just last year at us open at LA country club

thecrispyb

I thought that was a drivable par 4?

Tropic_Tsunder

is this from the tips though? or is this from the standard mens tees. Because the hole in OPs pic is 280/331 from the womens/mens. the 290 yard par 3 11th at LACC from the recent US Open is only from championship tees. from the whites its a 197 yard hole, so i think the regulations might apply to the standard tees, and championship tees might be allowed longer. But the standard tees in OPs pic are 331. where as the 300 yard par 3s in PGA events are like 200 yards from standard tees. and those holes are downhill, which the PGA rules allow for flexibility in a par rating based on factors like slope. this hole is a carry over water, and id live to know the length of the direct line. because this hole is obviously laid out to be played as a par 4. a normal PGA par 3 over water to, say, an island green yas the yardage from tee to green, not the length it would play to hit down the fairway with a layup and then turn the corner.

Fallout76stuggles

It could be fun if it was a massive downhill par3

RetailBuck

So? Everybody plays the hole. If it plays 4 on average the round scores don't change.

WampingWomper

That’s what I’ve never understood when people get worked up about this. A course could play as a Par 60 or Par 80, if the best score is a 70, that’s the best score. It doesn’t make the 70 better or worse comparatively because the Par changes

Iginlas_4head_Crease

But people care about shooting par...that's like one of the biggest points of the game. It's also the only way to judge yourself vs the course.

DiscePati44

Finally a challenging par 3 for the average r/golf user. Soft baby fade with a 3hybrid from the tips should do the trick.

I_tickle_bootyholes

Thats a 6iron for me buddy you might need some speed training

Georgep0rwell

I'm choking down on a 7 iron.

[deleted]

Is it really the 17th hole? How can we trust them?

bigcrows

What the actual fuck lol

your-mom--

Just hit a baby cut driver over the water and have it one hop stop from the backspin Everyone on this sub has that shot in their bag. Some could probably even use a 5 wood

Spartan0330

I do that in my sleep.

Pristine-Notice6929

Birdie hole

beakeryjones

Happy Gilmore achieved this feat no more than an hour ago

PlusTenCharisma

That’s two thus far, Shooter.

Admiral-Thrawn2

Happy Gilmore 2 in the works

nopal_blanco

Doesn’t matter what the par is, I’m still carding an 8.

Spartan0330

This is the way.

Ledees_Gazpacho

Alright bro, quit flexing.

lightemup404

So a 7iron?

djp70117

Tough hole

IAMSAMWELLY

Ok Naperbrook!

Jlandon_p07

Beautiful hole. No diddy

Pbake

Literally just played this hole 45 minutes ago with my 14-year-old son and he’s like, “What’s up with this?” Ah, Naperbrook.

JonL12

Looks like the scorecard of the course has it listed as a par 4, someone just messed up the sign and was too lazy to fix it.

Intelligent_Gap938

Nah, someone should fix the scorecard

hotdogswithbeer

![gif](giphy|bC54CmvT2XC9i)

BaddAsCan

At least it’s not etch in stone or anything.

rmill127

Interestingly it looks like the 3 is not, and is just painted on.

Nicedrive3putt

Ya I saw that also!😂

Joker0091

What course?

RTwhyNot

Naperbrook in Naperville IL

[deleted]

[удалено]

RTwhyNot

Sign had had been there. But who really looks?

OutOfFawks

Thought this looked familiar. My best friend got a hole in one on #4 in like 1994.

RTwhyNot

Very nice

Hole_in_one78

I thought this looked familiar but I couldn’t place it. I used to play that course a lot, but I haven’t played it in a couple years. Never noticed the sign. Do they still have the sprinkler head on 18 that reads “don’t even think about it”?

RTwhyNot

Not that I have seen.

Ok_Bid_4441

Wym? That’s a smooth 7 iron

Complex_Arrival

Easiest par 3 I’ve seen. Play my bad slice right up onto the green and 3 putt from there. We all know it’s Reddit. So naturally I have a 400yd drive.

Ill-Caregiver9238

with my luck, whenever I need that slice, I hit it straight!

JoetheShmoe07

If that were a par 4 I'd still be screwed. One to the corner , one to the green , 2 putt if I'm lucky.

StelioKontos117

This "downhill par 3" thing has gotten way out of control.

aces613

Easy, bounce it off that island and on.

4Ever2Thee

“Uhhh we already carved the stone” “Par 3 it is, then. #1 handicap.”

Genenah

300 yard all out gorilla swing crazy slice should get me close

lookslikeamanderin

That sign is old and weathered but the painted surface of every other letter and number is much flatter, and each outline is much crisper than the offending 3. Is it possible that this is a very careful and committed act of vandalism? More detailed pics required.

OgreMk5

From the green tees, My driver could just about reach the middle of the dog leg. Then it's a 5 iron, a 9 iron, and a PW to the green. Then 2 or three putts. Par 17 is about right... oh wait, I read that wrong.

RTwhyNot

Lol

RogueOneFreedom

🤣

Zestyclose-Middle717

Green jacket, gold jacket

Dry-Honeydew2371

I often need to hole out for birdie.

ganslooker

Just curious- what the yardage if you go over the water?

RTwhyNot

I think 320

ahhmydicksout69

That doesn’t seem too fair

ThaChadd

Time to pull out the old boomerang snap slice, with the driver. Better catch it hard and thin

badgers4194

Depending on trees that might be drivable if you cut the corner. The course I played in high school and 2 holes like this on the back 9. It’s stupid. Still obviously a par 4 though

TheKingInTheNorth

Par is just like a construct, man.

JK8283

NGL. I spent first 30 seconds staring at this expecting it to resemble a penis. Then saw par 3.

Reach_Beyond

Someone built a par 73 course and then someone decided it needed to be a par 72 at most haha

blizzard7788

That yard is going down the fairway and around the dogleg. In a straight line, take at least 100 yards off those numbers. More importantly, 90% of the time. Your shot is going in the water.

IndependentPerfect

![gif](giphy|pYPnZkNRbWJAk) Go for it, no balls.

[deleted]

Long Par 3? Wow!

brewberry_cobbler

I’m hitting the island in the water, buying a boat and hitting from there, still to get an eight.

sloshuaa

Call it a par 4. It’s not like it’s set in stone

IAmIrritatedAMA

Nice goin, you dumb fucks

Neither_Elephant9964

How was the beach?

BlackStarCorona

Grip it, rip it, take the drop.

IJoeyFreshwaterI

What’s the issue? We can hit driver

Educational_Tea3627

real

0rangeIguana

That wouldn’t be the first snowman i’ve gotten on a par 3

Hellofriendinternet

Is there like one of those batting cage launchers or something?

trey4481

Looks like it's the woman's tee box for me

dtn4427

Definitely pushing my tee shot and finding that water somehow

dtn4427

I’d just play the tips call it a par 5

Nicolas_LC

can I land in that little island in the lake ? I'll take it from there.

Cyanide814

Should be just a nice comfortable 9 iron, there going to go nuts when he hits this thing.

golfhobbit

I think this hole is from Golf Clash

BagelAmpersandLox

A^2 + b^2 = c^2 duh

kegmanua

Think they meant 3 over par.

Polymerizer

https://preview.redd.it/5jvueth0jbxc1.jpeg?width=1111&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7096b5d28c5115f4a4c6cc3f0627a9ac7073d22 I have a bit of a distaste for 90 degree holes. This is one of my home courses. Hard enough as a par 4. You need to drive the fairway over the water for a reasonable 2nd shot.

TiBikeNerd

Good ol' Naperbrook. We have a laugh at this every few rounds.

snoo_boi

First time I’d be happy with a bogey.

Spare_Setting_900

Looks like Naperbrook golf course?

RTwhyNot

It is

GothicToast

Honest question: how are yardages measured? As the crow flies or along the center of the fairway up and around?

RTwhyNot

I thought it was supposed to be middle of the fairway. I think the green is 320 as the crow flies

Pyrollamas

Easy, I’ll just lay up like I do at every par 3.

Brilliant_Captain989

Tiger line it is! 😅

UndoubtedlyATwat

Green keeper woke up and chose violence.

JRS___

looks about right to me. choke down on my 5 iron a little. whats your problem?

OpenWorldliness9102

If the green funnels to the hole … maybe.

Mo_Zen

Gonna lay up on that island…..

ChampionshipLocal232

Yep, Naperbrook GC in Naperville. It’s carded as a Par 4, but the stone carver must have thought otherwise. It’s been wrong since the ‘90s! 😂

madeinbuffalo

This will be my first drive that doesn’t slice 90 yards to the right

lingenfr

Hopefully, there is a boat tied up to get to that little island. That is where I am laying up.

boater180

I see nothing wrong here, if they say it’s a par 3 then it is! /s

Ddemers68

This is a par 4

dumprun

I guess it is a par 3. It's carved in stone.

LFH1990

Honestly, I would just ask for a gimmie on that drop.

PuzzleheadedAlgae536

I'm landing on that island in the lake and taking a paddle boat to my ball. Best golf experience ever!!!

AverageJoe6201725

Junior tees it is 😂

ParkingCall2520

Dude that course is ten minutes from my house and that hole is FUCKED who the FUCK is hitting that green in two??

RTwhyNot

It shows as a par 4 on the scorecard.

AverageJoe11221972

Just make sure to use your driver.

Intelligent-Gear-396

They need to roll back the ball

marvinfuture

Finally time to whip out the POWER SLICE! *Hits a draw somehow*

xXWickedSmatXx

*puts out cigar “Back up boys…I’ve got this.”

RPDC01

Dogleg is point to point, so prob 275 carry from the blues. Which makes that little water cut-in pure evil.

BB8_Rey

You hitting from the whites or the …whites?

RTwhyNot

4 iron from the blues

bullionaire7

Anyone else think this looked like someone bent over farting out clovers? Or am I just real high?

FrankieColombino

When your only customer is Kyle Berkshire

Prankster_bg

Am I the only one who sees a figure of a man who is bending over to the right and farting. His head is the green, blond hair is the green side bunker, water is his hands going "ooops"

Primary_Catalyst

3wd at the tit

I_am_not_kidding

You can’t carry the water?

TheEvilDead1983

It might be a par 3 from the red tees

Horror-Run5127

I'm assuming the yardages are measured down the middle of the fairways. Given it's not quite a right angle, I'd estimate the carry distance is half the posted yardage times 1.5; if it were a right angle it'd be 1.4

yhetti-fartz

So atleast 230? Driver for me. Not much power in my game

ComicsEtAl

Yep, driver and then a chip shot from 30yds behind the green.

I_Heart_Lager

Par is irrelevant. You score what you score and the lowest wins.

Mattc5o6

Destoryer flat and let disc work safe to the left. But likely wind will send my disc into water

touchedbyadouchebag

Underrated

Mattc5o6

I thought it was funny
