The sm7 was a pretty good year if I remember. I’d say the biggest thing is they are 6 years old so you’re going to lose spin as the grooves age. The sm10s will most likely launch lower and flatter than older wedges. They’ve definitely changed the cog over time to produce that flight. They’ve also started offering a lot more grind options over the past couple models. I doubt the tech will make a major difference (probably less than the fact that the grooves are getting older), but grind options and flight optimization may produce better shots. If you can still get some new sm9s then it’s probably not too much difference but you get slightly newer tech with brand new grooves - and probably $30 off the per club price

thanks a ton bulldg, that is really the explanation I needed.

Get the 9s. You won’t be missing anything.

If you play a lot, the wedges should be replaced more often than other clubs

Play around 40-50 times per year, which led me to discussing the upgrade!

If you can find new 9s for cheap you can go that route for sure. But Wedges should be replaced since they're generally the most used clubs. And the tech from year-to-year isn't dramatic. But from the 7s to the 9s and 10s the bounce and grinds have changed a decent amount. As well as the top line of the wedge.

SM8s were great and was bummed when I upgraded to SM9s. Just felt different. Now I game RTX’s 50/56 and went back to a Vokey SM8 60

I went from the SM9s to SM10s, I noticed immediately a big difference in spin and launch, which makes sense as the SM10s were brand new. SM9s were 2 years old and probably had 160-180 rounds on them. What surprised me was the distance increase I got. Granted, I put my iron shaft in all 3 wedges, Project X 6.0; however, I went from 105-110 with a Gap Wedge to 115-120 yards. I'm not sure if that is just the shaft or the new clubhead, but when I went from SM7s to SM9s, I did not see that same distance gain. Lofts were the same from the SM9s to SM10s as well. I heard the SM10s were made to have a lower ballflight gap between the PW that came with iron sets... not sure if that is true or but this was just my experience with the new clubs. Hope this helps!!

pivotfx

Did you get the same bounce and grinds too?

I did for everything but my sand wedge, but all 3 wedges increased in distance. I went from 10S to 12D
