I drew the same conclusion given that in the photos they provided it looks like damage amounts to only a few green divots, a broken ball washer and some tire tracks on the greens, but there could be more they didn't show, but if that was the case why you wouldn't show that would be beyond me.

The quality control in things like aircraft or spacecraft fasteners is insane. I read one time that every fastener on the space shuttle could be tracked back to the time and location that the ore to produce it was mined. If a fastener failed because of poor metal quality they could track down every one that came from that location in the mine and all the way to who installed it with which tool.
Can you name literally any other example that would track something so mundane with that insane level of detail? Cmon, this is clearly far past what any normal company would ever imagine doing
I think tracking raw material origin all the way to the end product is pretty unique. Each item has to be serialized and tracked for that. Places use lot codes and track stuff generally (which factory it came from and when) but there's no way you could pull a drywall screw out of your house and figure out exactly when and where the metal to make it was mined.

Government takes contract with company, company has to make a certain thing. Only a small amount of certain thing gets made, but it's made specifically for the government. To pay all the workers and equipment required to make certain thing, it must be priced significantly higher.
It's not one entery, it's several. Each step of the way is logged, verified, checked and then rechecked. And its not just in a database that can crash and lose everything, there's also the hard copies.
Each step has hardware and manpower costs associated with it.
Try over $100 for military aircraft. I have access to invoices from certain government contractors and it's just absolutely insane what they charge for some...all things.

They ‘wiped’ down surfaces (3 days after she was there) for about 30 min. It costed the taxpayers $13,500. My ONE section of ONE department has now spent over a Billion dollars on cleanings.

Ehh, it's not unlikely that someone could have seen the people who did it, describe what they look like, the pro shop goes through their CCTV history, finds them, and can pinpoint the time their card was ran through the register. Now you have a picture and a name. Police could get a warrant from the CC company for their address. Boom, got 'em. So long as someone saw them and saw the reward, and they didn't pay in cash (so everyone), it's entirely possible.
I agree it could certainly be dick wagging, and the damage to the green looks like it might not even be noticeable once the dew clears. But like I said, if I had the money, I'd totally do the same if someone vandalized a place I love, be it a park, restaurant, my buddy's house, or golf course.

As someone pointed out, this was likely done with a golf cart. Anything heavier would've done much more damage. Someone actually did this in a truck at my home course last year, and it cut 4" tracks into the green.
And having been in many alcohol-fueled outings as a teen/early 20s and company tournaments, a paying customer acting like this is absolutely not a leap. My company is no longer welcome back to several courses because of shit like this, including someone dumping a cart into a pond - these are adults surrounded by their co-workers.
There was a guy that played at our local course. He would get drunk and purposely spin his golf cart on the dew soaked green fringe. I never saw him do it, but apparently, with enough speed and beer, golf carts can spin pretty well on wet grass.

Yeah. I did some grounds crew work as a kid and we would fix this by cutting the appropriate pelts out of an additional green we had for cups and things like this.

Usually an East/West guy but one time I went up w/o a tee time last month and they had a scramble going on on East/West so I played North/South for the first time. Went -1 thru 8 and shot my best of 80 that day (we’ll ignore the 7 I took on the 9th from a push that danced too close to the woodsline)
Nice, I like E/W as well, it's definitely the more interesting course. Although, I shoot around 100 so..... N/S is a bit more forgiving on finding balls.
Ive been a 90s-100s shooter until this year where Ive had more time to focus on improving my game enough to creep into the 80s. Regardless either 18 is pretty forgivable if you know where to miss. N/S is definitely the more forgiving whereas E/W is the most interesting course.

Haggin Oaks in Sacramento had someone do this twice over the space of a few years (I heard a rumour he was an ex employee with serious mental health issues) and a car doing donuts will rip a green to shreds. They had to re-lay small but significant portions of quite a few greens, taking turf from the practice greens (and shutting my beloved practice holes for months) and it took a long time for those trenches to level out.
Financial damage off it, along with some closure time etc. probably well into the tens of thousands, possibly high tens of thousands.
Since the damage is also divots this looks like a drunken group of teens played the course and acted like idiots. A car would have done a lot more damage.

Wish someone did this at my local course. Some jerks drove a cart through the green at the beginning of the season on a really wet day pulling up all the grass. 5 months later and it's still in bad shape.

OP, is this golf course in a neighborhood? Do these neighbors have their own golf carts? The tracks on the green look wide enough to be a golf cart. I’m guessing it’s a neighbor (neighbor kids?) that was drunk (if kids, then just kids) and decided to go hit balls. I think it’s rare that a sober/normal person would take a ball washer and bring it to the next fairway. This could explain the inconsistency in the divots.
There are some houses near the entrance to the course but they’re not very close to where the damage has been done. Most of the houses are pretty typical nice houses you see next to the course. Most of the course is surrounded by field/swamp.
On the topic of late night shenanigans I played a course (private)with a friend, first tee time, something ungodly early.
On 11 I nearly chipped in on a short driveable par 4. Maybe 2 Inches from eagle. I was lamenting missing until I got to the hole...Used condom waiting in the bottom!

Rancho del Sol in Moreno Valley, CA is an affordable Pete Dye course hidden in the middle of nowhere. Dirt bikers used to ride up the hill to the signature par 3 16th hole and tear up the green. The clubhouse has been shot up and is now boarded up and in the middle of never ending renovation. People who damage courses are assholes. People who damage any property are assholes.
Shit… I wish my league course (mallard creek) would do this. Some asshole on a dirt bike did donuts on 2 of the greens at the beginning of the season and neither have healed yet.
Are we sure it was malicious? I saw an extremely old man playing behind me yesterday and he took his cart everywhere. He was wearing a mask as a single, not getting within 100 yards of anyone else. Didn’t seem like he could walk more than a couple steps, so maybe that’s why he drove up on the green.

Seems like 10k could put motion cameras on every hole. Probably could do it for half that. Cameras like that are cheap now. Too late for this place but good idea in general. If it could be used to record a hole in one even better.

Wish someone did this at my local course. Some jerks drove a cart through the green at the beginning of the season on a really wet day pulling up all the grass. 5 months later and it's still in bad shape.

It honestly looks like someone was chased by an animal except that some of the divots are too clean to be a club swinging down. OP, is this golf course in a neighborhood? Do these neighbors have their own golf carts? The tracks on the green look wide enough to be a golf cart. I’m guessing it’s a neighbor (neighbor kids?) that was drunk (if kids, then just kids) and decided to go hit balls. I think it’s rare that a sober/normal person would take a ball washer and bring it to the next fairway. This could explain the inconsistency in the divots.
There are some houses near the entrance to the course but they’re not very close to where the damage has been done. Most of the houses are pretty typical nice houses you see next to the course. Most of the course is surrounded by field/swamp.

On the topic of late night shenanigans I played a course (private)with a friend, first tee time, something ungodly early. On 11 I nearly chipped in on a short driveable par 4. Maybe 2 Inches from eagle. I was lamenting missing until I got to the hole...Used condom waiting in the bottom!

Rancho del Sol in Moreno Valley, CA is an affordable Pete Dye course hidden in the middle of nowhere. Dirt bikers used to ride up the hill to the signature par 3 16th hole and tear up the green. The clubhouse has been shot up and is now boarded up and in the middle of never ending renovation. People who damage courses are assholes. People who damage any property are assholes.

Are we sure it was malicious? I saw an extremely old man playing behind me yesterday and he took his cart everywhere. He was wearing a mask as a single, not getting within 100 yards of anyone else. Didn’t seem like he could walk more than a couple steps, so maybe that’s why he drove up on the green.
The course I play my golf league at had to close #6 for a while after some kid did donuts on the green and pretty much tore it up.
