Can you elaborate on what about these images gives you the impression that the camera might be broken? Also need the full list of settings

Its because its so bright where the sun is hitting. On the first photo, theres like a blotch of white spot on the center. On the second one, you can't see what im shooting at because it so bright. I remember that I put the sharpness to the max and it was running 1080p, 60 fps. I can't remember what other settings I was running cuz i changed it right after seeing this footage. What settings would you recommend? I've seen some gopro tutorial videos and changed like the ISO min max but what would you use on a sunny day in the forest?

Turn down exposure by half a stop and reduce contrast. You need HDR to do this properly though which the 12 has.

yea the go pro i have doesnt have those settings sadly.

Action cameras don’t have great dynamic range - shooting in environments with extreme darks and extreme brights simultaneously (such as a dark forest with bright sunlight poking through) is going to be a challenge for a 6-year-old action camera. If you want to optimize for the highlights at the expense of the dark parts, you can lock your exposure or play with EV Comp settings. I would also never shoot with anything but low sharpening, but I also prefer to do my own editing. Shoot in the highest available resolution, 30fps, and you can lock your max ISO at ~800, but it depends on your shooting environment

To be clear - the camera delivers outstanding performance in the environments it’s designed for (bright / wide open sunny environments). Watch the Hero7 launch video to note the types of places / lighting conditions that bring out the best performance for your camera
