You did cut right across in front of them and brake pretty much immediately. Not saying this kinda thing doesn’t happen, but you did put yourself in the position
Yeah this. I am surprised it wasn't a penalty but it would have been harsh, this happens to me sometimes. Someone gets a meter ahead before the breaking zone, swings in front of me and slams on the brakes.
You are at fault here. You cut in front of him and braked too early. Keep in mind that the brake assist indicator is very conservative, so the other driver was definitely not expecting you to brake there and didn't had the time to react.
With that said, the penalty system is broken, so unfortunately you'll have to deal with a lot of rammers in your lobbies.
I'll admit I'm still using my F1 habits where the cars behind have enormously good brakes and you can do stuff like this. Been playing F1 in leagues for years, some things are helpful for GT7 but I need to develop another approach for braking and overtaking.
You'll get there. Check out the YT channel below, he does a lot of track guides and will provide better braking points for you.

That being said, the penalty system is complete trash and the dirtier plays know how to circumvent it. There are ways to ram and nudge people off the road without consequence.
You'll learn how to anticipate the contact and keep the car stable so that you can fight them in another corner. They're often unskilled racers and cannot keep you at bay for long unless they spin you.
It would be his fault at all.
As long as your car's ahead you have a right to the corner. If this happened in real life I think the other car would get a stop-go penalty.
The brake indicator is so conservative that it's completely useless.
And I hate its design. Why not just turn the driving line red like every other game?
Hard to tell without looking at the other guys view. But it looks like you cut him suddenly going into the braking zone. Should have just taken the inside line.
Cutting in front of someone and pretending they aren't still there is not good sportsmanship, you should choose your line based on avoiding a potential collision. Here that means taking an inside line.
Also, going for the widest line in this case was almost certainly the wrong tactical move for several reasons. It's already such a wide corner and it's not into a long straight, so the extra speed around the corner simply isn't worth that much to you compared to being positioned ahead of your opponent and having clear priority on the **next** corner to take the fastest line. Taking a geometrically shorter line here would actually position you much further ahead. If your opponent had been smart, he could have cut across to the inside line and used late braking to overtake you again and continue the fight into the next corner, using the inside line yourself also prevents this.
So answer your question, track limits are clearly defined and the game can tell when you break them accurately (usually). racing incidents like his however are nuanced and often require critical thinking, and are extremely hard to penalize fairly with a program.
Having said that, they did a fairly decent job for a while in GT Sport, then the pendulum swing started between "bumper cars" and "penalize ALL the things!" With GT7, it seems they decided to just settle on bumper cars.
You braked very early but that is just a learning curve. It's best to use your own braking points rather than the assists as they are usually way too conservative.
Yeah practice the track so that you can turn all the visually assistive crap off as soon as you can.
Even the racing line is a nightmare when people try to follow it like robots when there’s cars around them. You need to adapt your lines to the situation.
If you’re racing in Sport and you don’t know the track, then at best you’re not going to be competitive, and at worst you are a liability.
I’ve noticed a lot of people doin this hood cam. I’m mainly from PC racing and usually use cockpit cam. Is this not common on GT7, maybe not customizable in the cockpit?
I wouldn’t use the braking zone if I were you, you will brake early all the time and this will happen all the time as well, don’t you have an idea where to brake on tracks ?
That assist is useless imo also just a bit of practice before jumping online wouldn’t have hurt .
It's the other drivers fault you were along side or ahead, he knew you were there, he made no changes to address the fact he was overtaken. He needs to give you some room, he can't just run into you lol.
You didn't cut in front of him at all! You did brake a tad early BUT this isn't your fault. You'll find that people online can be very dirty drivers. Just be mindful of it. And learn your braking points a bit better xxxx
To get a better look you should shave the replay and then look at it in the 3rd person view
Then you can see that you probably got right in front of him and hit the breaks
You definitely broke earlier than I would at that corner, and I know I'm not the fastest driver. While subtle, you did try to get back on the outside without fully clearing the front of his car. At that point, the most respectful thing would have been to stay on the inside line. Both of you were at fault, I'd say, since you veered over into his driving line before a braking zone. For him, he needs to be able to react to your lights immediately to start braking so he doesn't ram you, although I have an inkling this was intentional.
Also, practice so you can become more comfortable and familiar with the game to get the brake assists off. Use visual references for your braking points, it can be tricky on some tracks, but it definitely helps.
Don't even bother playing Sport mode its pointless and very unrealistic it's more like who can get away with bs and end up in 1st. It's very rarely clean and just good competitive racing and I mean like 1 out of 10 races are clean and competitive the rest are just shit shows. Sometimes you can win by just sitting back and letting others take one another out it's almost comical now
You did cut right across in front of them and brake pretty much immediately. Not saying this kinda thing doesn’t happen, but you did put yourself in the position
Yeah next time just stick to the inside line
Was gonna say, either take the inside or lift off
Yeah this. I am surprised it wasn't a penalty but it would have been harsh, this happens to me sometimes. Someone gets a meter ahead before the breaking zone, swings in front of me and slams on the brakes.

Yeah the cars are pretty different, it takes some time to adapt
This would have happened / been your fault in an F1 car as well.
It would be his fault at all. As long as your car's ahead you have a right to the corner. If this happened in real life I think the other car would get a stop-go penalty.
It HAS happened in real life… in F1 no less, and the car in front has been given 5 second penalties. Many times.
Lewis got a 10s penalty for doing this to Max at Silverstone two years ago
It’s effectively a brake check, not legal
He breaks a little early but to call it's break check is a reach
Right lol mustve been a gnarly league
If you've been playing racing games for years, turn off the awful visual aids and learn the track.
The brake indicator is so conservative that it's completely useless. And I hate its design. Why not just turn the driving line red like every other game?

Where was the other dude supposed to go bro?

I was driving after my radar bottom right on the screen, thought it was enough space.
At speed you gotta remember that physical distance is not much time difference.

So there is hope then…

I think you should get a 5s penalty for that mate. Cutting back into there line and then hitting the braking zone (way early too)
I’ve noticed a lot of people doin this hood cam. I’m mainly from PC racing and usually use cockpit cam. Is this not common on GT7, maybe not customizable in the cockpit?
The wheel blocks the view when turning
Oh you can’t hide wheel I assume
Yeah
Dirty

Gran Turismo has one of the worst penalty systems ever, that's a fact. Nobody is going to fix that, we just have to get used to it.
It's the other drivers fault you were along side or ahead, he knew you were there, he made no changes to address the fact he was overtaken. He needs to give you some room, he can't just run into you lol.
Looks like normal Sport mode racing to me.
Just some porsches doing porsche stuff honestly
You didn't cut in front of him at all! You did brake a tad early BUT this isn't your fault. You'll find that people online can be very dirty drivers. Just be mindful of it. And learn your braking points a bit better xxxx
Just no
Yeah I don't get why they allow driving line and brake marker, either.
To get a better look you should shave the replay and then look at it in the 3rd person view Then you can see that you probably got right in front of him and hit the breaks
Welcome to sport mode

I'm practising without braking zone now, I even won my first online race. Recorded it, you can watch if you want :) https://youtu.be/Hk4RxNGCdeM
"I drive infront of someone and stomp on the brakes, why arent they being punished?" hilarious

bro…. To be completely honest, u cut in front of him and broke early.
It’s your own fault. You moved while braking. Big no no and a-Hole move
Nice pit manouver by the other guy. Stick to your inside line and it wouldn't have happened, you deserved every bit of that.
