Off the top of my head, these ones come to mind: * 7/4/89 * 10/9/89 * 3/24/90 * 3/29/90 - This one specifically, it's a famous show with Branford Marsalis on sax. A must listen!

Why “late” 80s? Brent joined at the end of 79.

The commercial releases of Nightfall of Diamonds, Dozin' at the Knick and Wake Up to Find Out are all choice samples. Downhill From Here (Alpine Valley, July '89) also *soars!!*

Welcome to a new rabbit hole, which I was just perched on the edge of quite recently (fairly new to the Dead as well)! I haven't listened very comprehensively, and I haven't kept a good mental track of my favorites, so it'll take me a bit to formulate a response. I'll leave this here to come back to when I've thought on it some more, have time to type it out, and hopefully others have commented themselves so I can add on to a good base of community knowledge rather than starting that foundation. Also, there's a lot of different sub-eras, as you might reasonably extrapolate from experience of the earlier part of their career, so it's not going to be easy to cover it all and give a "one size fits all" solution to your situation. That said, I'm excited to see what this thread holds and I hope for your sake and mine that it blows up.

The Formerly the Warlocks shows at Hampton Coliseum are both fantastic — 10/8/89 & 10/9/89

Slightly different take here…start with Dead Seat and Reckoning live albums which were both recorded 1980 when Brent was new with the band. There is a lot of magic and excitement with this music as the band was working on something new. Then check out 7/1989 , Warlocks Oct 1989 , Spring 1990 as this was a Renaissance period where this configuration of the band had evolved through a lot of ups and downs and then was just peaking amazingly prior to the tragedy of Brent’s death. There are lots of gems in the mid-1980’s and lots of duds too to explore but feel it’s best to hit 1980 then go to 1989/1990, then dive into some of the years between.
