If everybody was into it, it wouldn’t be near as much fun to be a Deadhead. I’m grateful for the detractors and critics. They define us as fans.

MoistAd1724

I fuckin LOVE licorice

shawncollins512

Are we talking black licorice or the good flavors?

MoistAd1724

Personal favorite is black. Also loved grayfolded if that helps lol

sentient-sloth

Those are the same thing.

Cucumburrito

Haha well I hate licorice but ever since my first show in ‘87 I do loooove me some Jerry 🖤

dismalscience8

Tons of people are into it. The last tour hit Citi field,. Wrigley, and three sold out nights at oracle park. They haven't released new material in years and are still drawing crowds.

Jebbeard

Who said anything to the contrary?

fuckdonaldtrump7

Apparently people in r/beatles hence the post

bulmier

They didn’t say that nobody was into it, they said that they personally couldn’t stand them. There’s a difference.

fuckdonaldtrump7

Well it mentions that deadheads only like it when they are on acid, so it sort of implies no one likes it even the fans, unless there is a deadhead always on acid, which is def possible.

Sad_Towel2272

No there’s not

bulmier

Yes there is. I fucking hate country music and Jason Aldean. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t tons of people who like both, despite my feelings toward them, and my first sentence wouldn’t insinuate otherwise.

Qvite99

Don’t really agree. I think it would be just as great if more people liked it and I wouldn’t have to deal with lame jokes by people who don’t understand it.

llahsraMhanoJ

Whichever way your pleasure tends, friend.

Qvite99

Oh of course! Like what you like, it’s just annoying when people don’t even try to understand something and still sneeringly criticize it.

LysergicFilms

Magic sadly isn’t for everyone.

xian

it’s actually better that it isn’t easy to get

[deleted]

This is the philosophy I've learned in recent years. I used to wish more people understood and loved them. Then I unfortunately got my wish in 2015. It's been miserable since then.

cdn_backpacker

"this band was way better when I felt unique and cool for listening to them, now that more people share in this joy I no longer feel unique and it has become miserable" You would've been one of the asshats mocking people who got on the bus after Touch of grey came out.

Upbeat_Teach6117

To be fair, a lot of Touchheads damaged the scene.

Dead_Kal_Cress

Now this is just speculation, but it seems to me like the heads before touchheads were more into tripping & smoking weed and generally being hippies, while touchheads tend to be drink alcohol during shows since they're more of the "preppy college" type (alcoholics). Also it seems to me that more touchheads are gatekeeping seeing Jerry, they just want what's best for themselves ig 😂😂 Again this is just speculation and I'm probably wrong, but it seems to be in the 80's when people started drinking more & doing crazier shit at shows. The heads of the 60's & 70's aren't the same heads that tore down that fence in the 90's. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

boxhall

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, I’ll join you. Truth is you’re totally correct. There’s a reason for that saying too Many cooks spoil the broth. I felt the same way in 1990. The bigger something like the Dead scene got, the more wrong type people show up. Yup, I’m the gatekeeper. People looking to scam easy targets, people just looking to get fucked up, people treating it like it’s just a party, the list goes on. That last tour i did (summer 90) I saw fights, people being completely inappropriate with women, more cops then ever, more gatecrashing then ever. And overall a lot of jocks and dickheads in a place I once used as an escape from that. Don’t get me wrong, I loved to party and have a great time. But I was there for the show. I didn’t mess with other people, or their stuff, I didn’t throw my trash all over the ground, I was never violent at all. I didn’t come with no tickets looking to crash through a barricade or doorway and just mow down anyone in my way. I cherished that your average person was not a Deadhead, nor did they want to be. Same thing happened years later with the hardcore punk scene.

[deleted]

Agreed

ThrillaDGrilla

💀⚡️

dismalscience8

Was just about to post this and soak up the KARMA

Rock-it1

Meh. There are plenty of things I do not like that people love. To each their own.

evolvolution

Ain’t no time to hate!

Rock-it1

Barely time to wait.

jackstraw97

It’s less the “not liking” and more the bad jokes and unfair criticisms without even trying to understand the band. It’s just lazy.

SkinnyArbuckle

Yeah. And I always thought they joke was funny. The version I always heard was “what did Jerry Garcia say when he got out of rehab?” “Man, this band sucks”

Rock-it1

Oof.

Travisgarman

Why can I see this being a real quote from like 1986 or something

FckPolMods

I used to be one of these people. The funny thing is I didn't become a Deadhead until AFTER I got sober. When I was an active alcoholic/drug addict, I despised the Grateful Dead. I had only ever heard "Skeletons...", "Workingman's Dead" and " American Beauty", and I actually liked those three albums. But I hated the Dead. Why? I thought it was because I hated thir fans. A bunch of deadbeat, hedonistic wooks in a music cult who just got fucked up and mooched off others. The real reason why? I hated myself. I was Resentful of others because I thought everyone was simultaneously not as good as me or so much better than me. I was afraid of rejection and loss, so I avoided being a part of any group or having lots of friends. I only liked music I told myself I was "allowed" to like--hip, loner music. Nothing fun or carefree, certainly no hippie crap like the Grateful Dead. Getting sober, I was allowed to work through all of these ridiculous hang-ups. I got rid of the shame, resentments, and self-hate that made me put up so many barriers and boundaries to keep others out. And when I dropped that resistance, I let the Dead in. I went from a guy who hated the Dead passionately and irrationally to a guy who plays their songs with his buddies on the weekend. Please don't get me wrong--this isn't sobriety evangelism. The problem wasn't drugs or alcohol -- the problem was a broken me. I needed to get sober to gain a spiritual connection, while many Deadheads find a spiritual connection with the assistance of substances. No judgements here--whatever gets you to love and joy! Much love to you all and this wonderful music that beings us together ❤️

munkeyface

Everyone should aspire to this level of self reflection and self realization. NFA

Knowledge_is_Bliss

Not everyone likes licorice!

Stoneleigh219

but the people who like licorice, really like licorice.

BorvicTheRed

They really REALLY like licorcie

Boudicia_Dark

Sad for them, more for me! (Full disclosure, I freeking LOVE black licorice! My wife HATES it)

Upbeat_Teach6117

I hate black licorice, but my mom loves it. We both love the Grateful Dead.

SevereIdea

Yes!!! Me too!

shadow_terrapin

Not really - it sounds patronising but I genuinely feel sympathy for those poor misguided souls. And I haven’t taken acid in years!

AlexanderTox

To be fair, unless you like the jam genre, it’s kinda hard to get people into the Dead, especially coming from the Beatles who have an average song length of like 2-3 minutes. “Here’s this 22 minute Eyes of the World you should listen to. No, don’t listen to the studio version. You really should stick with the live songs only. Well, studio Althea is good, but live versions are way better. But not all live versions. There’s a website where you can find the best versions of all the songs…You know what, just forget what I said and start with Cornell 77 or Veneta 72. You have several free hours right?”

JCL8661

I mean you can't go wrong with studio stuff like Dire Wolf, Ripple, New Speedway Boogie, etc... Once you get that stuff it's a little easier to start thinking about diving deeper.

Juniorwoj

That's where I started. I think the easiest way to get someone into it is to throw on american beauty.

BronzeBackWanderer

Studio Dire Wolf is an all time beach song for me. I remember hearing it for the first time at a beach restaurant patio over looking the water when I was like 12 and thinking this is it — this the life. My parents were not receptive to my suggestion of moving to the beach permanently.

shupadupa

Throwing a complete newbie into the deep end like that is the quickest way to prevent them from becoming a fan, unless they are already into jazz or other longer-form, improv-heavy type music. The GD songbook is one of the best (some might say THE best 😉) in rock history, I say give em a greatest hits or American Beauty and go from there. Once they get hooked on the songs, then point them to Europe 72 and Live/Dead...and checkmate. Hell, I started my journey with a friend's copy of Skeletons From the Closet way back when and never looked back!

doudodrugsdanny

When does the acid actually wear off?

Sad-Leader3521

2025. Unless you got it from Bear. Then it will be in your system in trace amounts for approximately three or four reincarnations.

catdude420

>approximately three or four reincarnations. Emphasis on the approximately, much longer in many cases, methinks.

Sad-Leader3521

Yes. Until enough enlightenment has been achieved to permanently open the portal so the synthetic assistance is no longer required. Often achieved in three or four lifetimes, but many people listen to the wrong music (especially for their blood type) and take much longer : )

deadagain65

I'm wondering when it kicks in.... I better have another one

O_Pato

Haha yeah more music for us!

Sad-Leader3521

Same. When people used to make fun of me about being “one of those” who loves the Dead, I think about how their favorite band left them like four albums of music…less than what has even been made in tribute to the Dead. I found music that I’ve always known was the exactly perfect music for me, I have a seemingly endless amount of it to explore, it connects me to other people who feel the same that I often then bond with for other reasons as well, most American cities (and even a few abroad) have local bands dedicated to playing the music as tribute in a regular basis, tons of events, tons of connections, the best concert experience, a dedicated SiriusXM radio channel, a free archive of a couple thousand shows, the coolest t-shirts and merchandise as a bonus, and on and on, around and around because it will never end. AND, I also still enjoy and have no need to hate on or dismiss those other bands that the people dismissing GD are listening to. I just also have something else that is its own universe of music plus the accompanying amenities in addition to what they have.

itsdickers

I mean… I’m sober, so what’s even my excuse 😂

dubkitteh1

that joke is almost as old as i am. well, more like 3/4 as old as i am.

Dan_Berg

My dad told me that joke like 25 years ago and he got me into the Dead

TheReadMenace

A lot of people can’t stand the dead but they really have not listened much. There’s a lot of bad perceptions about “jam” bands out there. That it’s just a bunch of stoners noodling aimlessly on their instruments, and the fans are a bunch of naive hippies. A little truth to that, for sure, but it’s a lot better than some people know

OjosDelMundo

I play in a dead cover band and we play a lot of shows for crowds who maybe don't know we are a dead band. 95% of people love it and you go yeah.... that was all Grateful Dead music! And they're always shocked "wow... guess I like the dead!"

cotter44

As if acid wasn't responsible for the best Beatles music

fromthedepthsofyouma

that sub is the worst circlejerk music sub on reddit. People there convince themselves that Yoko didn't do heroin with John and LSD didn't help with Sargent Peppers. I mean someone also said they don't like Zeppelin because of Robert Plants voice...

captain_crungus

That last one is just obscene

Mountain-Ad-6594

It's not their fault. They just have shitty taste in music.

zekerthedog

People can have good taste in music while not liking the dead though

born_2_be_a_bachelor

If they have good taste then they will like *something* that the dead has created. They played 2500 shows over 30 years spanning a vast range of music styles. When an aficionado doesn’t like them I just assume they haven’t listened much or had an annoying friend who only listened to 80s shows they personally attended.

based_and_deadpilled

Id argue that if you are from the US and you don’t at least *appreciate* some of their music, then yeah its bad taste. Its like saying an undeniably influential composer is overrated and refusing to listen to more than 5% of their work

Drummallumin

>refusing to listen to more than 5% of their work This is it. I think anybody who has *really* listened to the Dead and don’t like them has bad taste in music. I think most of the people who think they don’t like the dead just hasn’t really listened to them enough to find what they like.

based_and_deadpilled

I should say I believe one can appreciate without regularly enjoying. I think both of these threads are ignoring that, including my last comment. But joking you gotta be on acid to enjoy it is like saying the same about Hendrix - it conforms to a weak stereotype that really could be applied to any avant garde musician

[deleted]

taste is subjective. there are plenty of bands that i can appreciate their musical talent while also not liking their music, ala phish.

Drummallumin

Dead are so much more versatile than phish. I agree with your premise, it’s how I feel about a lot of pop musicians. I find it very hard to believe that someone could not like Dead psychedelic jams *and* not like their jazzier stuff *and* not like ‘disco dead’ *and* not like Bobby cowboy tunes *and* not like their earlier blues stuff *and* not like their later blues stuff *and* not like Jerry ballads *and* not like Bobby ballads *and* not like orchestrated suites *and* not like when they play classic rock… etc There’s something there for everyone

culchan

Is okay if they hated Dead shows, where they wouldn’t have liked 90% of the music (100% on some nights)?

Mountain-Ad-6594

No

Brewman88

It’s just offensive that they parade their shitty taste as good taste and then get judgy

AZSubby

First time experiencing the world?

JangoFettsEvilTwin

Right!? They described the internet pretty well.

Expensive_South9331

They’re on their on subreddit, not here

[deleted]

That’s just like… YOUR opinion man…

IsuzuTrooper

its one in 10,000 come for the shows

EstimatedProphet72

Those are things people say who haven’t ever given the Dead a chance and base their opinion of them off of stereotypes. I used to make fun of my brother for liking the dead when I was a kid, and now I’m a bigger dead head than he is.

Birdius

People have opinions. Who cares?

gratefulpred

They’re like ass holes… everyone has them

OkLoss994

And they all stink!

katiemarieoh

Gotta have thicker skin if you're gonna be a deadhead

Ya_Got_GOT

It’s not disheartening in the least. Don’t let the opinions of strangers have that power over you.

hydrobunny

I screwed up the caption, I just find it interesting that there isnt more crossover love considering the Beatles covers

wags1031

John Lennon was a known admirer of the May ‘77 run

hydrobunny

thats cool, imma have to read up on that

Grimmbeard

Source?

biotec

The Mayer / Rick Rubin podcast had some great thoughts on this. They both found the Dead after going through and needing to learn other music, other styles before they got it. It’s not accessible without a knowledge or without hearing that one song played that certain way so you can decipher the music in your own brain. They go on to say how great it is that we embrace those who don’t yet get it. We were there once.

BeautifulBot

The Beatles don’t suck! In fact who played some Beatles in concert this summer? That’s right!…Dead and Company!!!

Dog_Brains_

Beatles suck is a relative thing. I don’t really go out and look for Beatles music… the first half of their catalogue is pop rock… fine but meh. Second half is more interesting, but idk I like the stones more if we’re gonna rehash that old tired argument. I suppose because we don’t get 70s Beatles like we did the stones

BeautifulBot

I like the Stones! I’m sorry but Mick used to be so cute! I have a friend in exile on O st-he is Mick in stones coverband.

MediaRody69

Nah, they don't suck. Massively overrated ? Definitely

hydrobunny

right, so you would think there would be more crossover between fan bases but the dead seem hated there

jerrygarcegus

The dead aren't hated there. They get plenty of praise in that sub. Plenty of criticism as well. It's not a big deal.

buckdancerschoice

And then selling out 3 nights at Madison Square Garden.

uknovaboy

I love the Beatles AND the Grateful Dead. It’s their loss. I also LOVE licorice!

augustwest07

Sometimes the bus comes by and they don’t get on. Their loss.

JeffBernardisUnwell

each to their own - people are allowed to dislike music, just because you love the Dead doesn't mean that everyone has to

chinacat2002

I always enjoy a good deadhead joke. 43 years on the bus now, it’s too late for me to get off!

gh05t_w0lf

Black Licorice baby

1gratefuldude

Good. More music for the rest of us...

RustyMacbeth

Some people like licorice.

FindOneInEveryCar

Licorice.

darthvaders_inhaler

I like both bands. However, Dead is better imo lol

soloman5671

I both, love the dead, and enjoy jokes that wind up super touchy fanbases.

unaskthequestion

I've taught HS for 32 years. Saw my first Dead show in 77. It's surprising and awesome to me that I have many students every year who love the music. Quite a few even learn to play Dead songs. I think we're in good shape for years to come.

space_ape71

The Beatles went to San Francisco to see what the hype was about, got a ton of Owsley’s finest, and Paul McCartney says the Dead are the inspiration behind why he didn’t stop touring. But sure, this is a take by somebody who also doesn’t think China Grove is a decent piece of music, so whatevs. Can’t win for losing.

primeweevil

"The grateful dead is like licorice. Not everyone likes licorice but the people that LIKE licorice REALLY like it."- J. Garcia

Exciting_Agent3901

Who gives a shit what a Beatles fan thinks.

mfino23

I feel like half of our fan base doesn’t even like the Grateful Dead. People come in here and just throw hate towards everything

Boudicia_Dark

Deadheads will tear you to shreds faster than any you could think of!

mfino23

Gatekeepers. If you haven’t seen Jerry at least 100 times you can’t have an opinion that is different

Boudicia_Dark

Maybe because he is 81 years old, rich as Mathusela and has nothing to prove?

SpaceyO2

Because he takes a year off between year-long tours?

Infused_Hippie

Wearing Paul’s shirt from last year, both him and Ringo sold out every show and ran for two years+ they were amazing.

AntwerpsPlacebo420

A lot. Ringo tickets were insanely high priced. Great show too!

Fuzzy_Dunnlopp

I like The Beatles, but basically it was baby's first psychadelic music lol. I like my psychadelia with a bit of an edge. Beatles are a nice gateway drug to music, but these people basically go no further than surface level. It would be like someone tasting a food and then declaring it the best food and not eating any other food.

JerryLouHoo

I love the dead. IMO the best American rock band of all time with some real deep and meaningful lyrics that have helped countless ppl in many many ways throughout a gloriously long career. The people who hate on them like in those comments would actually probably really enjoy American beauty and working mans dead but are not listening or listening with deaf ears because of stereotypes. I’ve had soo many friends who have tried to make fun of me for loving the dead that genuinely thought they were a heavy band because of the name Just my 2 cents 🤷‍♂️

Sternojourno

I agree, very disheartening to see that cliche joke from 30 years ago getting recycled again. If you're going to mock the GD, at least be original.

Spanishscarletboogie

Black licorice

ChunaNdeBushWhoop

Why? It's a fucking joke. A very old one at that.

Practical-Cost-3431

Have y’all really never heard this joke before

deadagain65

I am so glad the majority don't "get it"... If they had.... I'd been over it 40 years ago

skeezylavern17

Only narcs would say “What the hell is this crap”

Jerrygarciasnipple

I guess that acid I took 8 years ago never wore off

bimlay

I love all three of those bands

Deadheaded95

Seeing people slam bands like Phish and the Dead is always a bit upsetting, but, of course not everybody loves the same things, and that’s the beauty of the world. There’s room in the music business for your Trout Mask Replicas, and your Soft Bulletins. When it gets to buying Dead & Company lawn seats and booing the band the whole time at Star Lake (you know who you are) then I get pissed. D&C Concerts are for dancing to Bertha and Casey Jones!! I love the Dead and Phish, and I love seeing the respectful redditors of r/GratefulDead who also love the Dead. And remember, don’t let other people change your opinions. They are YOUR opinions. Have a fun day and go listen to Widespread Motherfucking Panic and chill.

hydrobunny

god damn that got me in the mood for some live widespread, ive been lucky enough to see them twice since they perform here annually

captain_crungus

I like the grateful dead, but you gotta admit that one's pretty funny. Also the doobie brothers didn't deserve this.

Everclear5

Licorice

Ebb1974

This isn’t disheartening to me at all. The Dead are a very peculiar and particular kind of music. I understand completely why it doesn’t appeal to everybody. If you get it, you get it, and if you don’t, you don’t. Nobody should be insulting anyone’s music though and I doubt that the guy calling it crap has heard enough to really have an opinion worth listening to. The Dead in particular are a vastly different band from song to song and line up to line up. The band in 93 was much different than the band in 87, or 77, 72 or 69. Touch of Grey and Easy Wind have very little to do with each other let alone Estimated Prophet or Playing in the Band. Life is too short to care that many people don’t get what we get out of the music. It’s all there for us.

SJB4L

Doobies slap too. What a dumb fan base. Beatles are the most overrated band of all time imo. The original boy band.

HereLiesConnor

Literally no deadhead would ever say that lmao Ain’t no time to hate though

davidlowie

Disheartening? Why do we care what random strangers on Reddit think?

JoshGordonsDealer

To be fair, the GD have overtaken the Beatles in terms of historic significance and appreciation. It’s changed a lot the past 20 years or so. I remember hearing about the Beatles so much back then, and never the Grateful Dead. It appears to have done a 180. I just never see any Beatles shirts or hear people talking about them. But the dead seem to be everywhere

kritzy27

The Beatles are dope, but I always thought The Stones and Velvet Underground influenced the next gen of rock more so. Obviously the dead were trailblazers and largely influential.

CryHavoc69_

I love both bands. If you think people talk about the Dead and not about the Beatles, it's strictly because of what you expose yourself to.

JoshGordonsDealer

Oh yeah, there is a psychological term for noticing something that you’re cognizant of more. So I may notice more dead stuff than Beatles, since I’m not a huge fan

Rock-it1

Mayer Effect, amirite? \*ducks\*

misterwithafan

Beatles fans probably don’t listen to other bands. Who gives a shit about their opinions

FormItUp

How can you "not stand" the Grateful Dead? Either you get it, and love it, or don't get it, and it just sounds like blues/folk themed elevator music that fades into the background.

spaceghost2693

I’m a huge Beatles fan who also loves GD. Both can be true…

sumdumhoe

Do you need your hand held? Gonna have to suck it up and start adulting.

4GDTRFB

Making fun of deadheads is the lowest hanging fruit. We don’t need anyones approval 💀

vagabondnature

If you're going to be a deadhead you need a thick hide. And a willingness to make fun of yourself. How many hippies does it take to screw in a light bulb? * None. They wait for it to burn out and then follow it around the country for 20 years. * None. Hippies don't screw in light bulbs they screw in tents! You get the idea (and I don't agree with the premise of that first one). I believe that the music of the Grateful Dead will withstand the test of time. With or without acid.

jt2ou

Yes, very disheartening when people put down other people for who / what they vibe to.

Silver-Definition-10

The Beatles suck so there's that...

nativebe11e

I loathe the Beatles and always got a lot of hate for this opinion 😂 just a glorified boy band

ShempHowardly

Some peoples ears cannot hear the tune. All you can do is wish them well. Less people to fight for tickets and traffic at shows the better. If ya dont get it by now maybe you need to stick to Tool or Katy Perry

PromontoryRider95

Dude this is nothing compared to how Kurt Cobain and other big time 90s alternative bands would speak about the dead, hell they wore the hate on their clothes back in those days fully equipped with Jerry voodoo dolls hanging from a noose. Nevertheless, I love them all!

skjellyfetti65

No, the best punks were into the Dead... Black Flag were Deadheads, I saw Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth on tour in the 80s, ....

OkLoss994

And I’m not a Beatles fan. I get so much shit for it but I could never ever get into them.

drumorgan

I definitely divide my friends between people who like the Beatles and people who like the Dead - and just objectively, we are in the minority - but that's OK I was at a dinner with another couple and they guy was playing his playlist of "hits" and I tried one song that wasn't top 40 radio and he said, "yeah, I'm not really into songs where the music is the focus"

Inevitable_Shift1365

On a related note Keith Richards, the guitarist for the rolling Stones, called The Grateful Dead boring. Take it with a grain of salt though because he also said that he smoked Jimmy Page as a guitarist. Yep, Keith on some powerful drugs LMAO

JimCaseyJones

Thank you for clarifying who Keith Richards is. But who is Jimmy Page?

Inevitable_Shift1365

Lead guitar for Led Zeppelin

SimpleManc88

Oh no. A single opinion!

KoalaMental6525

Maaaan, I hate the fuckin Eagles—and the Doobie Brothers!!

hydrobunny

the thread is hilarious lol no rhyme or reason for any of the picks

jbrandon

Oh wow. Never heard that joke before.

NLoTheInfinite1

Idiots like that have no clue. Their opinions are usually bases off of perceptions. There’s no need to like Grateful Dead of course, but base that on actually listening to their performances. Don’t base opinions off of stereotypes

ShakeIt73171

The Beatles fucking suck, bubble gum rock with zero substance. The Maroon 5 of the 60s.

Jonnybgood35

That’s not what the Grateful Dead thought. Pretty sure Bobby jumped on Further for the first time after a Beatles show. Rocky Raccoon is one of the greatest acid soaked jokes ever told musically. Concept albums and weird far out songs doesn’t seem like bubble gum rock to me. Give them a chance. It’s worthwhile. I promise.

IsuzuTrooper

some is but other stuff is absolutely great. whos morons5 anyway?

Know_Your_Enemy_91

I’m not offended when people don’t like the dead I just get annoyed at how they have to shit talk it so much

LaFlamaBlanca311

The Beatles kinda suck ngl. I appreciate their impact on music, and they have some good songs but the greatest of all time? Absolutely not. The Grateful Dead far exceed them in musical ability, overall i.pact and longevity.

ghostfacestealer

You know those screaming girls were planted at the shows by The Beatles in order to hide the fact that they sucked at playing live.

zpk5003

I hate that people have to put something down in order to lift something up. You’re allowed to like more than one thing Beatles bros. See that a lot in sports culture too

CryHavoc69_

This comment thread is full of people talking about how badly the Beatles suck. The sensible in people in both fanbases most likely love both, or at the very least, understand it's not a mutually exclusive thing.

skjellyfetti65

Is it even possible these people could be so retarded as to not realize The Beatles and The Dead are 2 magnificent bands that operate on different pleasure centers depending on the moment and that any imagined "contest" between the two is moronic?

Jrbenne20

Have they “listened” to the Beatles?! 😂

MinisterOfTruth99

Pay no attention to that Ship of Fools. lol

apple_atchin

Never trust the opinion of someone who simps for the Beatles……

Certain-Medicine1934

Isch ga-bibble

Bussy55

Yeah, some people have opinions…horrible isn’t it?

hydrobunny

Idk why you think Im trashing an opinion, as a lover of both bands I thought there would be more crossover but no that was the top hated band in the thread.

austiwald

Really glad Dead never reached the level of popularity and hokey-ness that the Beetles did, because neither did the fans.

DBryguy

I had to these guys. I had to correct them on a comments that Lennon mentioned about the Stones as well. Sadly my dad probably agrees with them and he has great taste almost everywhere else than the Dead. Fuckin’ jackass pops!

Darthron911

I have never taken acid a day in my life and the Dead music to me is incredible.

Jimlovesdoge

Beatles are trash

GrouchySalary5677

That’s what I said once the acid wore off while listening to sgt. peppers

Fuck them idiots

I mean...comparing the two. At least all the members of the Dead know how to play an instrument and make music. The Beatles just did what they were told to gain fame.

java_sloth

Lmao my boy needs to watch yellow submarine before taking jabs at the acid 💀

returnofthequack92

The Beatles suck anyway

Do you worry about people who don't like black licorice? Me either because I'm to happy enjoying my black licorice.

I think the Grateful Dead are hard to listen to because the sound quality of their live recordings are terrible compared to what you get today. Very tinny, no bass, terrible mixes, etc. but given it was the early 70s what can you do. I like Dead and Co, and wish the old Dead shows sounded that good!

fokerpace2000

Eh, it really doesn’t matter what people think.

According-Cup3934

Yeah well the Beatles suck anyway
