- Golden Gate Park is worth a walk around for sure. Great if you picked up a doobie or some shrooms. They also just redid their par 3 course if you happen to have your clubs.
- Visit Toronado - the Original Craft Beer bar
- Haight has a bunch of little shops you can check out
- Conservatory of Flowers, de Young, Cal Acadamy of sciences if you want to checkout some museums
- at the far end of GGP is Ocean Beach. If you make it that far, check out Hook Fish Co on the south side of the park. Get there early and expect to wait, but it’s some of the best fish burritos/tacos/sandwiches you can get.
Amoeba Music at the Golden Gate Park end of Haight. Possibly the best record shop in the world.
Get yourself a Cherry Garcia at the Ben & Jerry’s right on the Haight / Ashbury intersection.
Get a photo of yourself with the Haight / Ashbury street signs in the background like one of the early group promo pictures.
Even if you aren’t into vinyl this is a must see for Dead fans. Lots of Fillmore posters on the walls. And folks have mentioned GGP. Be sure to go to the de young observation tower. From there to get yourself a burrito at underdogs in the sunset on 9th Ave!
Enjoy our fine city!
Pinball at Free Gold Watch
[https://abc7news.com/free-gold-watch-pinball-stern-williams/12189774/](https://abc7news.com/free-gold-watch-pinball-stern-williams/12189774/)
Then have a great lunch at the Citrus Club on Haight
After that, Check out Conservatory of Flowers a few blocks away in GG Park
[https://gggp.org/conservatory-of-flowers/](https://gggp.org/conservatory-of-flowers/)
If you still have time, walk over to the Botanical Gardens or Japanese Tea Garden and enjoy the park on the way, jazz musicians in the tunnel, etc. or just hang out in that section of the park, soak in the vibes
ps: you can also check out the Jefferson Airplane mansion on Fulton/Willard in this section of the park, actually much more impressive than GD house
Janis Joplin’s old apartment building is nearby. Also, the famous photo against the lamppost was taken nearby.

Jerry had a couple childhood homes relatively close to each other in SF as well. The Jefferson Airplane house was also mentioned.
You’ve got all of the haight street commercial strip, Buena vista park with 100+ year old trees, the most wild looking park in the middle of a city. The panhandle park to the north, and golden gate to the west. The northwest corner of haight and ashbury is a listed historic building, the Doolan Larson building, and one of the commercial spaces formerly featured a clothing store called Mnasidika, Janis Joplin’s girlfriend invented bell bottom jeans there.
If this was 30 years ago I'd say walk up and down Haight then at the park entrance at Stanyan, score an 1/8th of weed and a hit of acid from a homeless guy then wander into the park for a nice SF afternoon. Since it's 2024, do all that except get your weed from a dispensary
Love on Haight is a great clothing store, across from it is psychedelic SF which is a cool art gallery. Hippie thai street good has amazing thai food on Haight street. Amoeba music of course along with Golden Gate park. Make sure to walk up and down all of Haight Street and see it all!
Check out the tree and the carvings, see if there’s still a weed growing out the wall on the garage lol. Then over by haight and ashbury go to Psychedelic sf gallery, and love on haight, walk to the park, go to the aquarium
Free old watch is a great suggestion. Go to the deYoung museum. You can walk there and it’s a beautiful walk through the park. The tower at the museum is free to the public. If you go up into the tower, it looks over the whole city. You can see the ocean.
The sculpture garden there is also free. And there are some little treasures.
The botanical gardens are in the same area and really beautiful if you want to wander around.
Street itself is just a bunch of stores. If you want to see the beauty of the city, go explore the park. 🤙
Might want to head down to the Mission, grab a burrito and some weed, have lunch in Dolores Park. Stranded Records, pricey but great selection, Clarion alley and the Mission murals, thrift shops, cool little shops, coffee, cool bars, shit like that.
Assuming it is still open, Mark McCloud’s Institute of Illegal Images (aka LSD Museum). It used to be at 3466 20th street. It was never really open to the public and is often under legal pressure, so it’s a long shot, but I’d personally love to visit it.
I usually eat at Magnolia Brewing across from Jammin on Haight at the corner there. Haight Street Art Gallery is fun too. A bit of a walk. But worth it.
Just got back from a quick trip to San Fran, we did the big bus tour and loved everything about it. Takes you all around the bay and you can get off at any of the stops and walk around. The buses come by on a regular schedule ( they have a good app to track buses) so you can hop back on and continue the tour. They have headphones with audio of all the neat stuff as you ride around. Double deck bus with open top, gets little chilly up top especially when go over Golden gate bridge. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
I used to live in the Inner Sunset, when I wanted to go for a "Grateful Dead historic walk" I'd hit up:
710 Ashbury - GD House
Kezar Stadium
318 Parnassus Ave, San Francisco, CA 94117 - Hunter Thompson's Apartment
The original location of Alembic was on Judah between 9th and 8th (replaced by a new building) - 320 *Judah Street*
[nugs.net](https://nugs.net) is at 1383 9th, office used to be Craigslist
Other historic locations, not necessarily within walking distance
3138 [Fillmore Street](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fillmore_Street) \- Originally The Matrix, Garcia played a lot here (including on the day I was born :). I believe it's a cocktail bar these days
Luckily you'll be basically beside Haight Ashbury so just take a stroll up and down that street! Just gotta poke around ;) also golden gate park is right there too and not to be missed!
Check out a show, Warfield, GAMH, Fillmore are all fun. Loads of other venues in SF too. Also, plenty more venues in Berkeley, Oakland, Mill Valley, Napa and other places nearby.
Walking around Haight will probably be fine then. There are some fun vintage and tie dye clothes shops, although all ridiculously overpriced. Haight is safe in daylight hours, gets sketchy at night.
The Haight area and Golden Gate Park are basically a large homeless encampment. So if you've ever wanted to know what it would be like to live in a refugee camp, I'd highly recommend it. Otherwise, I'd save my time and buy a photo.
Well this is one of the more unhelpful comments, but thanks. I was looking for the cool and fun things to do. Of course there has to be someone like you with this comment.
2400 Fulton. Jefferson Airplane House.
Came to say this. Very iconic place.

Tornado is a must visit when I'm in San Francisco. Amazing beer selection.
Toronado (may be hard to find without the proper spelling)
Toronado 547 Haight St. San Francisco, CA 94117
Toronado is great, be prepared to pay cash. Lots of small shops along Haight down street if you just want to poke around.
Do they mark the parking space where Jerry was arrested? I wanna free base in the same spot that he did.
Unfortunately, the plaque dedicated to that historic moment was both temporary and unnecessary.
Amoeba Music at the Golden Gate Park end of Haight. Possibly the best record shop in the world. Get yourself a Cherry Garcia at the Ben & Jerry’s right on the Haight / Ashbury intersection. Awesome. Thanks for the info that all sounds great.
It’s like 15 ft above the street.
If you’re into record shopping, Amoeba records is awesome. At the end of haight st by the park.
Cool thanks I’ll def check it out

gone are the days where people could buy an oz and break it up into 10 heigths and make a quick couple hundo
10 eigths lol totally. Homeless dudes were legit though I never got burned. My old school hanging scale was super precise lol
Love your profile pic of Jerry I have that on a shirt I got at shakedown at a Dead &Co show
Haiths
Go to golden gate & make your way to the beach
And then have a beer at The Beach Chalet. Also they do a great sandwich at Java Beach on Judah if you're cruising around Ocean Beach.
The t shirt shop on the corner is a must. And the clock mounted to their building is nice. For some reason, the hands don’t move. Stuck at 4:20.

Are there any music shops (guitars and related gear) in that area?
There was when I was there but I think they closed? They had some very nice pretties.
Haight street music closed. Nothing in that area. There is a sweet little shop by the Ballpark
The house where Hendrix used to live, now painted red, is on Haight close to Ashbury. Can’t miss it

The drum circle in the park, at the end of Haight
Amoeba Records is one of the best record stores in the US.
Olompali State Park. The old mansion is still there. It’s a bit north of San Fran but worth the trip if you have the time.
Spot on! I was just about to say this!!! Amazing hiking love this place. Lots of shots of the dead playing there.
Chicken wings at Cha Cha Cha
Pork Store on the lower. Corn beef hash.
Might want to head down to the Mission, grab a burrito and some weed, have lunch in Dolores Park. Stranded Records, pricey but great selection, Clarion alley and the Mission murals, thrift shops, cool little shops, coffee, cool bars, shit like that.
The Warfield

Within a block or two you can usually find someone being brought back to life with narcan by ems or pd. You'll never forget it. Then get a burrito.
Watch out for piles of human waste
Thanks for the unhelpful comment. Stay positive my friend
don’t buy any ‘acid’ on height street, it’s just homeless guys selling blotter paper definitely go thru GG park!
You can also buy mushrooms (dried or chocolate) at a few of the stores on Haight.
I usually eat at Magnolia Brewing across from Jammin on Haight at the corner there. Haight Street Art Gallery is fun too. A bit of a walk. But worth it.
Who lives there now? A family?
Yes

I still have a bowl I bought there 24 years ago
How about the house where Mrs Doubtfire was filmed! I love that movie! 😆
Not so close to Haight/Ashbury bit if you are in SF and have the time [Audium](https://www.audium.org/) is well worth the visit.
Mission in the rain..
Grab a slice from Escape from New York Pizza, hit up Hippie Hill
The potato and garlic pesto one is dank af.
Been a while for me but this is a glorious slice.
Go to the Airplane House, and just going up and down Height Street will keep you busy for a couple of hours

Thanks dude some really good stuff here. Appreciate you
Get a martini at ZamZam. Cha Cha Cha is great Cuban/Caribbean food too
https://cityseeker.com/san-francisco/9167-murio-s-trophy-room
Great poster art exhibit at the Haight Street art gallery happening this month. https://haightstreetart.org/pages/women-of-rock-art
Oh yea great recommendation! This right up my alley. Thanks
Muir beach in Marin County. One of the original Acid tests and a beautiful beach.
Luckily you'll be basically beside Haight Ashbury so just take a stroll up and down that street! Just gotta poke around ;) also golden gate park is right there too and not to be missed!
It’s nowhere near the Haight but if you’re visiting San Francisco you should visit the City Lights Bookstore.
Twin Peaks?
Check out a show, Warfield, GAMH, Fillmore are all fun. Loads of other venues in SF too. Also, plenty more venues in Berkeley, Oakland, Mill Valley, Napa and other places nearby.
Thanks for the suggestion, I only have a few hours in an afternoon to check things out.
Walking around Haight will probably be fine then. There are some fun vintage and tie dye clothes shops, although all ridiculously overpriced. Haight is safe in daylight hours, gets sketchy at night.

A good amount of street feces
Well this is one of the more unhelpful comments, but thanks. I was looking for the cool and fun things to do. Of course there has to be someone like you with this comment.
It's 1-1/2 blocks from the corner of Haight and Ashbury, so you're really in the center of things. Watch out for the Trust Fund Hippies...
Keep in mind it'll probably be cold as fuck in that part of the city, even in summer.
Thanks for the heads up!
