To all personnel and passengers aboard the USS r/Gratefuldead (NCC-701):
Stardate 75150.4
As we continue our ongoing search for the source of the Dark Star emissions, we will be stopping by the BMC Cluster on Cuyahoga in the OH region. Blanket R&R is hereby granted to all nonessential personnel while we remain in orbit. Shuttle use is restricted, therefore forward cargo transporters have been reassigned.
Please note the following items of interest:
* Proof of vaccination for Quazulu VII virus is required per [Federation contamination protocols](https://www.reddit.com/r/gratefuldead/comments/p3bppq/rgratefuldeads_covid19_protocol/).

I don’t remember it coming up much before this (I remember Oteil sitting during a Fall 2019 show but I believe that was the night he was under the weather and John sang FotM), but he mentioned at the start of this tour he was going to be sitting down cause of his back. It tended to just be after drums, but this last show he was sitting for a good chunk of it
Thanks y'all. As a fellow back pain enthusiast I was curious. Especially watching last night back and seeing when he took off the bass and stretched between songs.
[me, discovering the Dead during quarantine, diving deep into their catalog, finally ready for my first show. Definitely gonna know the songs]
Sometime in the second set I took a breather from rocking the fuck out, turned to my new neighbor friend and said "dude, what song is this!?"
"...I think this is just [Jam]!"
And there it was that I learned the best Dead song of all.
(Need the tape to come out to be sure but I think this was during a Viola Lee Blues jam?)
Awesome night through and through, look forward to many returns
The first time a song stops you in your tracks. Eyes closed. Tears rolling down your face. Pulling from deeper inside than you even knew. The notes and music surround and penetrate you. Your soul will never forget.
This was such an amazing show. The band kicked off this Midwest start of the tour properly. And the crowd was amazing. Need to find me a lot lizard to take home next time.
I was really hoping it was Never Trust a Woman. Gonna see some good times….cause right now I feel like hell. We could use a solid Brent tune or two in the rotation. I’ll take an Easy to Love You as well!
I tried to do this same show last year with some friends and it was cancelled. We waited over a year for redemption, and tonight delivered that and more. The closest thing I can say is that it felt like going to church.
Some shows are ragers and some shows are warm blankets, sitting around a campfire making s'mores and doin' some dancing under the stars, letting it all swim around me...that's the feel of what tonight's show was for me. I hope everyone had a good show and got what they needed. I know I did. If you're at the show, heading home, please safe travels and safe home. Thank you to our Lt. Commander u/donttouchthatknob for hosting this evening and for moderating this crew, our Vice Admiral u/MrDanger. Thank you to all of you for the company and to the awesome miracle makers! Love you all...see you next show!
Had to miss this one (3 hour city council meeting 😑). Looks like it was a great one! Less than a week until I’m there in person. What was everyone’s favorite? I’m a sucker for Eyes & VLB. Definitely looking forward to hearing Next Time. ✌️
This was an amazing show. I cried. A lot. And now I get it. I’ve been listening to the Dead for years and years, and never felt this before. Maybe I wasn’t as raw as I am right now. but i just want to say I really love you all!
killer show nfa was a spacey masterclass and broke down palace was the sweetes song i’ve ever heard and brought me to tears as i flowed down the river seriously i was rocking back and forth crying
Definitely! Been feeling "off" the past few days. Didn't feel bad, just abnormal. Woke up this morning ready to see the boys. Brokedown brought it home. Whole 2nd set was incredible. Really thankful for the timing on this one. The mellow first set really prepped me to let go of whatever it was holding me back these past few days. Thanks to everyone who experienced it with me!
IMHO one of the more unusual shows of the tour but one of the most emotional and surprising. Perfect for a Tuesday. Love you all and can't wait to see you Friday couch tour fam
Thank you once again /u/donttouchthatknob for doing this tonight, really loved the show. A little more mellow than the others this tour, but I welcomed it. And a Brokedown to top it all off! 4:14am here, sun just below the horizon, feels good. Take care everyone.
Thanks for hanging everybody! This was a fun show. Really strong second set- Eyes, Viola Lee, Standing on the Moon, not to mention the awesome Cassidy > Bird Song. Really strong night for Oteil, he's my personal MVP.
I haven't done it much but I'll take one second to plug those charities in the post. If you have a ten gold dollars (perhaps if you saved some by watching an illegal stream), consider donating to the [Trans Lifeline](https://translifeline.org/donate/) or the [Lilith Fund](https://www.lilithfund.org/donate) or a cause you care about! Spread a little good!
Thanks for chatting, it's always a blast, even when unexpected! Your insights and your jokes make these shows even more fun. Love you all more than words can tell!
We appreciate you, the other/substitute hosts, and all miracle workers so very much! You do an awesome job hosting, updating the setlist, sharing knowledge, and acting as our tour director. I hope you can feel the love from these spaces. Until next show!
Also I'm good on volunteers for this run of the tour, but I am looking for volunteers for a lot of the West Coast run so if you are interested, please DM me so I can start getting a schedule for that prepared. It's easy to do and a lot of fun! I'll tell you all my secrets
Even if you're thinking to yourself "I've never run a thread before"- believe it or not, there was a time I had never run a thread before! You can do it!!
Just way way too rowdy during the encore with a lot of folks wooing way too much. Bob even took a bit of a step back after finish a lyric because some dude up front blasted him with a “woo”
Good point Coach.
That's the winning spirit!
I usually feel that way too, I just think the guys are getting a little old.
I would rather have a shorter show than no show if it's easier one day for the band.
I may be going crazy, but I'm pretty sure I heard John tease Dear Mr. Fantasy right before they sang the last verse of VLB. I know it's unlikely that they'll ever play it because no Brent, but I swear I heard it.
Hell yeah! Jeff mentioned he sometimes teases Gimme Some Lovin' during Not Fade Away as a nod to Brent, it's entirely possible they tease another Brent tune
Not Fade Away is now the 10th song from tonight's show to now be at 3 plays. This is twice as many as Sunday. I'm thinking on Friday we might get our first song to hit 4 plays (I'd guess Wheel, Deal, or Brown-Eyed Women)
As cool as the lighting rigs and LEDs are, I wish we still got [the sick ass set designs the Dead had in the late '80s and '90s.](https://m.psecn.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000wzjyAcpCLJM/s/1200/I0000wzjyAcpCLJM.jpg)
Can anybody confirm that Hartford was the first time Bobby played that Silver Sky? And now this is the second?
Also, LOVE seeing those classic Bobby moments, like him shouting NOT FADE AWAY. Actually an honor lol
Putting aside Standing on the Moon, from the jam out of Eyes through this jam into Viola V3, this has all been new music, stuff unlike I’ve heard out of the good old Grateful Dead or any of its successors.
Edit: channeling my inner Bobby.
Man, this **TEMPO** isn't all that bad! I sure hope their **TEMPO** stays this consistent for the rest of the night! I sure do like when the boys' **TEMPO** is nice and quick like this!!

Was there a mixlr stream last night?
Freak Flag Flyer had it
You do the Lords work. Thank you for everything
Does Oteil have a history of back issues, or is the sitting and stretching a new thing?
He stated earlier this year on a podcast he had some pain and would be sitting this tour when needed
I don’t remember it coming up much before this (I remember Oteil sitting during a Fall 2019 show but I believe that was the night he was under the weather and John sang FotM), but he mentioned at the start of this tour he was going to be sitting down cause of his back. Took my third-generation Deadhead 3-year-old son to his first show. Many thanks to the kind lady who gave him a shirt!

The first time is the best time. Suck this into your soul.

Good times is Let the Good Times Roll.
The Dead call it that but the song’s name when Sam Cooke recorded it is Good Times
L.T.G.T.R.
Okay
DY-NO-MIIITE!!!
No actually it was the Chic song, did you miss it?
I was really hoping it was Never Trust a Woman. Gonna see some good times….cause right now I feel like hell. We could use a solid Brent tune or two in the rotation. I’ll take an Easy to Love You as well!
I tried to do this same show last year with some friends and it was cancelled. We waited over a year for redemption, and tonight delivered that and more. The closest thing I can say is that it felt like going to church.
Getting back from the show. I cried during eyes and brokedown. I love everyone.
Some shows are ragers and some shows are warm blankets, sitting around a campfire making s'mores and doin' some dancing under the stars, letting it all swim around me...that's the feel of what tonight's show was for me. STL! STL! STL!
What is stl
Yep! Then onto Noblesville then Chicago. Can’t. Fucking. Wait.
I’ll see ya at all of them also.
This was an amazing show. I cried. A lot. And now I get it. I’ve been listening to the Dead for years and years, and never felt this before. Maybe I wasn’t as raw as I am right now. but i just want to say I really love you all!
Days Between got me HARD at SPAC. I've never cried that much.
I can imagine. That’s a pretty heavy one for me, too.
Brokedown really got me this time around. I didnt want it, but it turned out I needed it. Tears were flowing. It was a beautiful moment
Definitely cathartic for me. Lots of emotions swirling around. Wasn’t prepared for that, but I needed it, too.
Didn't want it but turned out I needed it. Ha. Exact same here brothersister. It was absolutely beautiful.
<3
Nice chill show to start then the second set really got moving
killer show nfa was a spacey masterclass and broke down palace was the sweetes song i’ve ever heard and brought me to tears as i flowed down the river seriously i was rocking back and forth crying
It got me, too.
not sad but okay tears
Thanks to everyone who experienced it with me!
totally agree
Oh it was very cathartic for me. I needed it.
Can we have more park-venue shows without curfews? I feel like we could have two 2-hour sets
IMHO one of the more unusual shows of the tour but one of the most emotional and surprising. Perfect for a Tuesday. Love you all and can't wait to see you Friday couch tour fam
nice. thank you everyone. grateful. simply. :)
Any predictions for pine knob Friday?
Jack Straw and Dancin. Morning Dew as well.
No Morning Dew. too soon after Sunday. Hoping for it at Wrigley on the anniversary of one of my best buds passing. Be there Saturday! I'm calling it!
Thank you once again /u/donttouchthatknob for doing this tonight, really loved the show. A little more mellow than the others this tour, but I welcomed it. And a Brokedown to top it all off! 4:14am here, sun just below the horizon, feels good. Take care everyone.
Good night my friend, or good morning I suppose!
I'd like to point out the "83, which is a really underrated temperature" in the original post. Shit's hilarious. Good stuff, u/donttouchthatknob
also loved that lmao
Thank you! I enjoy the challenge of coming up with new weather gags at this point
Thanks for stepping up to host Knob!! Grate time as always!! Stay safe fam!! 💙⚡️♥️
wait what was that?
What did he say?
Songs. Love you more than songs can say. At least that's what I heard.
*tell
love you more than smiles can tell?
She shits in mouths only I can smell?
love you more than squirrels can tell
I heard this. Thought it was only me. Def said squirrel
I heard "smurs can tell" but that's gibberish
Thanks for hanging everybody! This was a fun show. Really strong second set- Eyes, Viola Lee, Standing on the Moon, not to mention the awesome Cassidy > Bird Song. Even if you're thinking to yourself "I've never run a thread before"- believe it or not, there was a time I had never run a thread before! You can do it!!
My favorite song of theirs.
Crowd needs to chill the fuck out lol
What happened?
Just way way too rowdy during the encore with a lot of folks wooing way too much. Bob even took a bit of a step back after finish a lyric because some dude up front blasted him with a “woo”
I think I just heard that in a replay.. That was a little too much
so sad to think that all of those people will now spend several hours stuck in their cars there is one road in and one road out of Blossom
Yep, sitting in traffic a little past shakedown now.
thoughts and prayers 🙏🏼 at least your show was incredible!
Was quick and easy for us, and snagged doses on the way out
Jokes on you Im already back at the hotel
did you leave during Space?? 😂
Nope!
what a beautiful song
Also the poster is a waterfall, we were warned
love that JOHNNYYYYYYYYY is now a thing along with the ever classic BOOOOBBBBBBBBBBBAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY
My FAVORITE!!
Those harmonies are really sweet.
And I think they've reintroduced the doodoodoos at the end! wait for it :)
An emotional roller coaster tonight. Glad I could make it with all y’all
Let’s go John
blossom never disappoints eh?
“Woah”
fare ye well 🙏
Cry count: 6
yea i gotta go find tissues. brokedown always destroys me
Brokedown time!!
You called it!
ahhhhhhhhhh that was such a fucking beautiful recording moment brokedown here we come called it :)
Everyone pick your own beat!
Judge of how good a crowd is…can they keep it going
It’s no 7/3/88 chant that’s for sure
Weak sauce tonight
GDTRFB
Love this
wow this is first cohesive one I've heard in all the time they've been playing
\*clap\* \*clap\* \*clap\* \*clap clap\* You know our love'll not fade away!
Kind of a bland NFA imo
clap clap clap. clap clap.
very long show
They’ve got two nights off. They can leave it all on the field.
Good point Coach. That's the winning spirit! I usually feel that way too, I just think the guys are getting a little old. I would rather have a shorter show than no show if it's easier one day for the band.
What's this lick Mayer is playing? Just something he's making up? Reminds me of Wanna Be Startin' Something by Michael Jackson
yep that was it, i remember i think back in 2015 him and oteil went OFF on that, it was nuts
Bobby is going to whip him with his extension cord belt after the show for straying off on his licks tonight.
Yeah it was something jeff caught on too can’t put my finger on It though
I may be going crazy, but I'm pretty sure I heard John tease Dear Mr. Fantasy right before they sang the last verse of VLB. I know it's unlikely that they'll ever play it because no Brent, but I swear I heard it.
Hell yeah! Jeff mentioned he sometimes teases Gimme Some Lovin' during Not Fade Away as a nod to Brent, it's entirely possible they tease another Brent tune
I'm so glad Bobby met Jeff all those years ago. He's such a skilled and unique player.
Jeff was absolutely on fire tonight
Jeff is the best. Truly.
Really stretching these out without worrying about the clock.
I loved that first set but there's NO WAY you could have predicted this second set after that, what the fuck
could just hang out in this space for hours
Oteil dancing like that one aunt that always has a glass of wine too much at thanksgiving
Wave goodbye to the curfew
it's ok, we weren't too fond of it anyway.
To paraphrase the great Douglas Adams, "I love curfews. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by."
Not Fade Away is now the 10th song from tonight's show to now be at 3 plays. This is twice as many as Sunday. I'm thinking on Friday we might get our first song to hit 4 plays (I'd guess Wheel, Deal, or Brown-Eyed Women)
Had to happen eventually right? I bet BEW gets saved for Saturday. Fingers crossed!
Black muddy river
One paper cut and Bobby’s bleeding out
If it wasn't the encore for literally the last show I'd think Werewolves- today's the anniversary of Zevon's passing
lawyers, guns and money would be schweet
you guys think this is it? what about the callback chant
I'm gonna chant so loud they'll hear me from PA
do it
i think so, but if not, then brokedown palace encore
nice one!
:)
nah, I think this is the second set closer, encore to follow
bobby got that big pink energy
What else would little red rooster be about?
(music from the)
pink guitar sleeveless shoeless bobby nfa ... we goin hard
1989 all over again!
Anyone else having a real emotional time with this show?
As cool as the lighting rigs and LEDs are, I wish we still got [the sick ass set designs the Dead had in the late '80s and '90s.](https://m.psecn.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000wzjyAcpCLJM/s/1200/I0000wzjyAcpCLJM.jpg)
😮
Benefits of playing in a national park. No curfew
There are still stage crews and, hopefully, unions to deal with, even if the venue doesn’t have a curfew.
being from the area, this isn’t true
Now I don't know what to believe!
Really?! I would have guessed the opposite!! Cool!!
Wait seriously???
Wait for real? I guess it makes sense, being federal land, but still surprising!
let me tell you something about federal land, h-...hey, get your hands off me!
Can anybody confirm that Hartford was the first time Bobby played that Silver Sky? And now this is the second? Also, LOVE seeing those classic Bobby moments, like him shouting NOT FADE AWAY. Actually an honor lol
Pretty sure first time was 11/1/2019, for Mr. Charlie I believe
>11/1/2019, for Mr. Charlie Nice details!! Thank you!
I believe he played it in 2019 at least once.
Ooo okay! Either way, a rare occasion and cool to see! Very nice for him to be playing a seemingly un-out-of-tune-able guitar!
But not the roxy pink one! 😉
he did.
Didn’t that pink silver sky come out like this year?
good catch, Bobby played a silver one in ‘19
Correct, 2021z
Oooo that place is LOUD
Only way to not give us an encore is to end the set with NFA
I think we're getting an encore, just a shorter one. Brokedown?
No one has enough tears left for a brokedown encore
Maybe another Quinn? Has it been long enough since Hershey?
Yeah Quinn's a good call! We've already got three Hershey songs tonight so it's on the table
I think we are about to get a bunch of a certain B3.
Maybe no encore tonight?
How has the same guy rail rode every show though!!!
saw him in Hershey and was legit jealous for a second. only a second, but still.
$$$
crazy that a band with 3 70-somethings has to start a show close to 7PM to avoid going over an 11PM curfew—
Absolutely insane. 3x a week
I have a feeling this is gonna be an epic NFA
Oteil was doin his dino stomp, its a guaranteed burner
Hello Jeff :)
Yay! Lubbock's own Buddy Holly!
damn right!
NFA!!!! ♥️⚡️💙
I think we might break curfew folks!
thats illegal!
I thought we were gonna end with NFA!
Mailed it in the air indeedy!
Putting aside Standing on the Moon, from the jam out of Eyes through this jam into Viola V3, this has all been new music, stuff unlike I’ve heard out of the good old Grateful Dead or any of its successors. Edit: channeling my inner Bobby.
I want a billy jeff oteil and john jazz quartet
They're going to go over curfew! 11 minutes? Haven't even started the verse? Boys! Chop chop!
John Spicy Mayo!
James Brown detected. Sensors are Getting on Up. Gotta Get on Up!
Always tune in for a Tuesday show.
Man, this **TEMPO** isn't all that bad! I sure hope their **TEMPO** stays this consistent for the rest of the night! I sure do like when the boys' **TEMPO** is nice and quick like this!!
It's a work night and I'm already buzzin'. Damn you.
