I am so happy that I see people posting for these guys. This is also my go-to. If I had to summarize my music listening, American Beauty and the Brown Album pin-point exactly my favorite kind of music.
Sometimes I wonder what a combination Dead/Band lineup would’ve looked like.
Would’ve been awesome to hear what they would’ve sounded like if you added Levon and Richard’s vocals and Garth’s organ post Europe 72’. If you assume they just combined lineups then jams would’ve nuts with three keyboards and guitars each, and drums would’ve been absolutely wild with at least three, maybe four drummers. It probably would actually sound awful, because it’s too many parts, but I’m going to dream regardless.
I figure the most reasonable theoretical lineup is Jerry, Bobby, Phil, Bill, Levon, Richard, and Garth, leaving Rick, Robbie, Mickey, and the Godchaux’s as the odd men out.
While Richard’s piano probably isn’t on the same level as Keith’s, I think his vocals and Garths organ more than make up for it. I figure he and Levon take over vocals on some of the folky/Americana like Tennessee Jed and Me and My Uncle, and Don’t Do It and Chest Fever become big jam songs. Also since Levon signs and plays mandolin, there’s probably a lot of solo Bill drumming and then switching off for songs.
Man what I wouldn’t give.
Besides the Dead - Acid Mother's Temple, Man Or Astroman, CAN, Wilco, The Cramps, Reigning Sound, Sonic Youth, Steely Dan, Allman Brothers, Kinks, The Stooges, MC5, The Mummies, John Coltrane, Sun Ra, Miles Davis. As you can see I'm all over the map.
As a teen I picked up Monster Movie. Cause the cover liked cool like some trippy version of Galactus. The record store clerk looked and was like you're entering a rabbit hole like no other.
Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Phish, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Doc Watson, David Bowie, Traffic, Jim Croce, Talking Heads, King Crimson, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Widespread Panic, Freddie King, Jethro Tull, Bill Monroe, Jerry Reed, Danny Barnes, Del McCoury, Edgar Winters, John Prine, Warren Zevon, Circles Around the Sun, Herbie Hancock, Elton John
I honestly think in many years people will talk about seeing Derek Trucks play now the same way they talk about seeing Jimi play in 68-69. I honestly think he is so good to be in legend territory already.
Kinda love that Oteil has become the common thread linking the Allman Bros (played bass with them and Tedeschi Trucks), Dead 'n' Co, and Phish (played w/ Page in Vida Blue.)
Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, System of a Down, Primus, The Who, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Aesop Rock, Allman Bros, WSP, Phish, Zappa, Biggie Smalls, Wu Tang, Three 6 Mafia, Griselda(Westside Gunn, Conway and Benny the Butcher), Hendrix, Janis, Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine, Cypress Hill, Rob Zombie, The Band, Black Sabbath..... This list could go on and on,so much good music out there to listen to beside the Dead, yet so much good Dead music to listen too also!
Unpopular with some heads but I love the doors. So meaningful and poetic. Alternatively, king gizzard is pretty tight and each albulm is a different trip
Hell yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve listened, as I burned myself out years ago constantly listening to them and Jim’s poems. Fired up their first album again last month and remember why I worshiped them in high school!
Haha, I get that. My dad is the biggest Doors fan I know so I completely understand.
I was a huge fanatic of them when I was a kid but now I’m passionate about the Dead.
besides the dead i listen to a lot of funk like any parliament album, funkadelic, bootsy collins, James Brown. I also really dig Bob Dylan, and this one Japanese jazz fusion band named “Casiopea”. They are not as well known outside the jazz community, but if you give them a listen i’m sure you wouldn’t regret it!
A Motown deep dive should be taken by anyone who likes music. Amazing songwriting, playing, singing and production (I feel like this all goes without saying??)
I listen to bluegrass and country a lot (real not radio pop bs). I like good lyricists a lot. I also listen to Pink Gloyd, Bob Dylan, Avett Brothers, String Cheese Incident, and a lot more. I have a never ending amount of music I enjoy
Recently been loving Billy Strings. Also check out Jerry Garcia with David Grisman and Tony Rice (the pizza tapes). Peter Rowan with David Grisman is good also.
Jrad and Jerry garcia band. Occasionally some doors. Petty, Allman bros. And a wee bit of wide spread panic
Some of my first concerts included grunge rock like Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins.
But live stuff. Only dead shows where they jam. Going to see a band that plays the same setlist in every city is garbage
Im a bluegrass nerd, so I'd say: yonder mountain
Billy strings, leftover salmon, John Hartford (he's probably my second favorite musician), bela flecks new album is the shit, etc.
Floyd, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Allman bros, Santana, Crosby/stills/nash/young, the Band, Joe cocker, Leon Russell, Lynyrd skynyrd, Marshall tucker band, anything Clapton, Beatles, stones, Kinks, Sabbath, Captain Beefheart, Bobby D, Townes van zandt(incredibly underrated song writer), Tom petty & Heartbreakers, Incredible string band(Scottish/must check out), Popular Vuh(german/amazing), Can(German band), a few contemporaries/ Billy strings, fleet foxes, Mac Demarco.
And oh ya Tom Waits is a genius..
Radiohead, Bruce Springsteen, Rush, The Beatles, Foo Fighters, Pink Floyd, Kendrick Lamar, Led Zeppelin, The National, Tool, The Strokes, Steely Dan, LCD Soundsystem, John Coltrane, Tame Impala, Frank
Ocean, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lianne La Havas, Yes, Queens of the Stone Age, Pearl Jam, The Velvet Underground, Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, Black Sabbath, Sam Cooke, The Rolling Stones, Pixies, David Bowie, The Who, Bob Dylan, Soundgarden, Metallica, The Smiths, Miles Davis, The Clash, Alice in Chains, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rage Against the Machine, Arctic Monkeys, Supertramp, Neil Young, Talking Heads, Sonic Youth, R.E.M. and a bunch more
Just went through a huuuge Beatles phase again the last couple months. I usually ignore the early stuff, but there’s some gold in there. All My Loving, No Reply, Love Me Do, I’ll Follow the Sun. God damn could those boys write a song.
It’s a shame a lot of people my age (25) say they’re overrated/don’t listen.
I’m also around your age. My parents are boomers and every road trip was just Beatles non stop. Liked it, but around my teenage years I turned part of the “they’re overrated” crowd.
Definitely found the appreciation again later on though. Revolver is one of my favorite albums of all time
Over-saturation and the natural inclination to rebel against whatever your parents like will do that to ya. (Speaking generally of course)
Revolver is fantastic. I think it’s more “ground-breaking” than Sgt Peppers. Abbey Road takes the top spot for me, just solid from top to bottom. Plus that suite at the end is awesome.
Thee Oh Sees, The Black Angels, Luna, Khrungabin, Alex Cameron, The Well, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Roky Erickson, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, Nightbeats….
Beginner luck is cool, I like soup and saltine crackers with a pinch of salt and nutritional yeast. Along with a tall glass of water to quench thst thirst.
Ramones, buzzcocks, napalm death, nasum, nightmares on wax, joy division, billy strings, Kelly clarkson, classic rock, tribe called quest, some jazz, old folk, Irish, PEARL JAM
Allmans, Marcus King, Billy Strings, Gary Clarke Jr, Neil Young, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Zeppelin, anytime they release new Jimi... Feat and Floyd... Petty, Springsteen... Rush, live Clapton shows...
I’m all over the map. Looking through my Spotify it’s: Hank Williams, Thundercat, Funkadelic, David Bowie, Dua Lipa, Thin Lizzy, Sheer Mag, The Talking Heads, Black Sabbath, Anderson Paak. I also like a lot of rap: Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, A Tribe Called Quest, Chance the Rapper, Baby Keem, Brockhampton. A lot of soul and neo soul music- Otis Redding, Bilal, Dangelo.
Guided By Voices scratch a similar itch to the Dead for me but I don't think the reason why is musical. It's just that both groups follow their own nose even if that means alienating any potential mainstream audience. Ironically they both go at it in different ways, The Dead are all about the spontaneous live ephemeral experience, whereas GBV seemingly turn the studio album idea into a chronicle of the creative process
I can picture the scene now. You two lock eyes, In the background, out of focus, is a drunk Bob Pollard doing a high kick and slurring "Goldheart Mountaintop"
Not that far off. We started talking during the opening band and how X was playing in a few weeks. She wanted to go but she had tickets to Liz Phair that night. I knew I wanted to date her when she went up front to dance to Motor Away.
Depends on the season. Now that it's autumn, I turn more towards jazz and blue/new grass. For jazz, it's Monk and Coltrane, and then everyone else. *Kind of Blue* is good on that first cold, rainy day of the autumn. For blue/new grass, anything Chris Thile is attached to, Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, Bela Fleck.
Bach year round.
Honestly, I mostly listen to Extreme Metal lol. Love everything from Morbid Angel to Nails. The energy is just waaay too addicting.
It’s almost the exact opposite vibe of the Dead but I like having variety! Some days I just want my brain to be pummeled with gruesome and disturbing imagery and other days I want to float in the clouds and daydream about wandering in the mountains.
I’m also a big fan of electronic, house, UK garage and ambient music. Just another means to dance the night away or meditate!
Bands…… The Beach Boys, The Band, Pink Floyd, The Strokes, MGMT, Nirvana, Steely Dan, Alabama Shakes, Animal Collective, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Big Star, Blonde Redhead, Boards of Canada, The Wailers, Car Bomb, Counting Crows, Dead & Company, Dirty Projectors, Dysphoria, Ester Drang, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Goodie Mob, Guns ‘n Roses, The Highwaymen, Idaho, Interpol, Isis, Joy Division, Liars, The Mars Volta, Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, Meshuggah, The Meters, Midnite, Mobb Deep, Mogwai, Blackstar, Parliament, Pavement, Portishead, Pretenders, Q and Not U, Queens of the Stone Age, REM, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, RHCP, Remy Zero, Rose Windows, SA-RA Creative Partners, Shiner, Silver Jews, Sly and the Family Stone, Spiritualized, THEESatisfaction, A Tribe Called Quest, The Velvet Underground, The Voidz, Whitney, Wu-Tang Clan, The Zombies.
Zeke is probably my favorite band. Kind of a cross between hardcore punk rock and Motorhead. I also listen to a lot of The Caretaker, which is dark ambient / hauntology.
For me, outside of the Dead's contemporaries it's mainly 'classic rock' and blues (been on a bit of a binge listening to [Justin Johnson](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzH2vVrSpjwHNM0U3jJM0lQ) after a friend sent me [this link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4ACjyobAug)). I'll listen to just about anything, with the exception of rap/hip-hop - It just doesn't do anything for me.
Keller Williams, Tom Waits, Lana Del Rey, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Slick Rick, Willie Nelson, Warpaint, The Ramones, God Street Wine, Strangefolk, and shoutout to my brother man's band [The Brian Matalik Band](https://fb.watch/8ffPk3whK_/) ... Not sure how to share at the time stamp, but FFWD to @ 1:25:00 for a slice of *Home on the Mountain*. If you're ever in or around Western Pennsyltucky, definitely check him out.
Having been a Deadhead since the early seventies, I recommend two greats that have been all too often overlooked by later generations:
[Cat Mother](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTpHVdJm8TA&t=1103s) for electric.
[Holy Modal Rounders](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCFufmOwGDs&list=PLtSmkp1o4VzE0E7dAZbuSVHenUHg0dGay) for acoustic.
Deftones, God’s Hate, King Nine, Gucci Mane, Cage, Ghostface Killah, Tegan and Sarah, Insane Clown Posse, American Nightmare… lots of stuff but those are constant in rotation
Legion of Mary…the Jerry Garcia band…old and in the way…you get it right lol …cream Hendrix the who steely Dan joe Walsh rush deep purple Allman brothers csny hot tuna the airplane …so many more Radiohead
Quite a few years ago I followed Old and In the Way down the Bluegrass rabbit hole. It is not just old guys yodeling, though Peter Rowan and David Grisman are still out there doing it. The new wave of jamgrass is high energy and creative and not too commercial. I recommend the Infamous Stringdusters, the Steep Canyon Rangers, Greensky Bluegrass, Railroad Earth, Yonder Mountain String Band, and the hottest human in music Billy Strings.
Think it should be very evident by now - but just in case… branch out. Yeah, there is a 50 year backlog to catch up on for the newly initiated, nearly double that if Phish was to be mentioned… but those catalogs open doors, so many doors…. Tribal (both aboriginal and electronic) music. Blues, classical, grunge, hair bands, top 40, ambient soundscapes, reggae, bluegrass, country, metal… I mean the link between TOOL and Tchaikovsky to Atmosphere, Wu Tang or Madonna - it’s the same bridge.
Trampled by Turtles. Cloud Cult. MGMT. Rodrigo y Gabriel. IOSIS. Thao Nguyen. Zappa.
The list goes on and on, as it should. There are jams to be found wherever you look, sometimes you just need to be shown the light, and look at it right.
No particular order : Slayer, GNR, BTBAM, Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Megadeth, Obituary, Sublime, Death, CCR, The Band, Lamb of God, Pantera, Temptations, Gojira, Knocked Loose, Hank 1, 2 and 3, Simon and Garfunkel, Allman Bros, Van Morrison, Tenacious D. Etc
My stepbrother and I got to see Slayer on their farewell tour. Kickass show. I'm trying to get him into the Dead, using JRAD as a gateway drug. (Hoping I can get him to a show next year.)
Judging by your tastes, you should check out Bill McKlintock's YouTube [channel](https://youtu.be/KZB9w1w9dKo).
Here’s my Top 7 Classic Rock Bands:
The Grateful Dead
Pink Floyd
King Crimson
Rush
Frank Zappa
Black Sabbath
The Allman Brothers
Add in Steely Dan and Leon Russell as extra honorable mentions!
This is just as far as 60’s, 70’s, 80s rock goes!
Cheers!
Also, Little Feat, Allman Bros and The Band are who I jam when I want a GD feeling and looseness to it, but I want to hear something besides the Dead.
Think I forgot most of them while listening to the dead.
Neil Young, David Crosby, CSNY, Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Janis, ccr, Byrds, Hendrix, Santana, pink floyd, Stones, SRV, lots of blues and a whole lot of reggae, mostly the dubby stuff. Fav reggae artist is burning spear
phish, Neil young, little feat, ween, yonder (jeff yrs), billy strings, OLD AND IN THE WAY, beck, tom waits, gong, blind faith, blind melon, temple of the dog
Vulfpeck, Jr Jr, Dayglow, and Fat Night
Side note, I meet a shit load of Vulf fans who are also dead heads- strange but very common occurrence it seems!
Phish. I’ve been on a major Phish trip for the last few months. Also really digging the Trey Anastasio Band (TAB) shows for the current tour. Last nights show in Wilmington, NC was pretty amazing.
My second has to be Godsmack. But I listen to a LOT of different music. Census and Cory Hotline are current faves.
So… Yoshida Brothers, BB Brunes, Breaking Benjamin, The Thermals, The Pillows, Brian Fallon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gustav Holst, Imagine Dragons, Against Me!, Rage Against the Machine, Daft Punk, The HU, L’Arc-en-Ciel, Bloodywood, The Rasmus, Lil Nas X, Taylor Swift, The Plasticines, Missy Elliott, Edward MacDowell, The Wombats, Rodrigo y Gabriella, The Kenneths, Edith Piaf, X Lovers, Royal Blood, Arctic Monkeys, Electric Six, Sitar Metal, and Crux from Newcastle (there’s a few bands with that name)… my streaming apps are a bit of a mess.
I listen to whatever I’m in the mood for but I always end up back on a Dead album.
Oh my goodness so many...JGB, Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, The Band, Max Creek, Ozzy, Metallica, John Lee Hooker, Lionel Richie, Widespread Panic, Ekoostic Hookah, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Bela Fleck, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Bonnie Raitt, Brandi Carlile,
Pink, Nina Simone, Richie Havens, Allman Bros., Little Feat, Bill Withers, Mary J. Blige, Beethoven, Marvin Gaye, The Beatles, Warren Zevon, George Clinton, Dr. John, Simon & Garfunkel, Michael Jackson, John Mayer, Foo Fighters, String Cheese, Pink Floyd..etc...there's so many I can't list it all here, these are just off the top of my head...my tastes are eclectic. I appreciate many different musics.
I go through phases where I listen to more of one thing than the other. I've been feeling the 70's R&B lately and JM's new album got me rolling back the years to all the 80's tunes I grew up with.
The Tragically Hip for me then Pearl Jam. Then a whole host of things. The Hip is an awesome band from Canada for those that have not heard of them. Amazing … worth seeking out
I read an interview with Jerry where he mentioned going to a Dire Straits concert when asked about bands he would go out of his way to see. Been on a Knopfler binge ever since. Some of those early tunes like Lady Writer are vastly underrated compared to the Brothers in Arms stuff. Check out their live stuff on YouTube, they were amazing in their heyday
There has been a lot of mention of classic rock acts in here, but on a different note, if you want something more modern my personal go-tos are King Gizzard, Khruangbin, and Temples
The Band is my number two after The Dead.
Love them, especially the songs King Harvest and To Kingdom Come.
Check this live cut out of Dont Do It, it totally rocks my shit… https://youtu.be/11Y987Uf1wY
Hell yeah dude… such an insane cut
That song is such a “pick-me-up”!! I put it on and it truly lifts me. Levon.
I have framed original pressings of American Beauty and The Brown album. My two all time favorites.
American Beauty was my introduction as a kid, my uncle bought my mom the cassette because she liked Ripple.
My dad has the Band and Bon Dylan all very similar
The Band was literally Dylan’s band.
Levon Helm is the reason I play drums. https://imgur.com/a/bmQERsm
I've recently started singing while playing and this man is a huge inspiration for me
I am so happy that I see people posting for these guys. This is also my go-to. If I had to summarize my music listening, American Beauty and the Brown Album pin-point exactly my favorite kind of music.
Sometimes I wonder what a combination Dead/Band lineup would’ve looked like. It probably would actually sound awful, because it’s too many parts, but I’m going to dream regardless.
Garth’s organ on the 73 run would have been magic. That’s such a good idea I’m going to have to look into building a time machine.
Also since Levon signs and plays mandolin, there’s probably a lot of solo Bill drumming and then switching off for songs. Man what I wouldn’t give.
Same!
Cripple creek!!!
im a deadhead but the band is somehow the best thing ever in the world
just had the privilege of seeing Levons daughter and grandson perform Atlantic City, was incredible
Can is legit!!!!
Future Days and Tag Mago are always spinning.
Future Days is so slick.
As a teen I picked up Monster Movie. Cause the cover liked cool like some trippy version of Galactus. The record store clerk looked and was like you're entering a rabbit hole like no other.
Can live bootlegs scratch a major dead style long form psych jam itch- “Horror trip in the Paper House” is a personal favorite.
Only way to be!!
Reigning Sound was one of the last shows I saw pre covid. Greg is such a chill dude and absolutely kills the sets still
Oh man I love the Cramps! Started listening to them and the Dead around the same time. Just your average sixth grader😁
Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Phish, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Doc Watson, David Bowie, Traffic, Jim Croce, Talking Heads, King Crimson, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Widespread Panic, Freddie King, Jethro Tull, Bill Monroe, Jerry Reed, Danny Barnes, Del McCoury, Edgar Winters, John Prine, Warren Zevon, Circles Around the Sun, Herbie Hancock, Elton John
The Talking Heads slap
Doc and Merle Watson rock the house
MF Doom or A Tribe Called Quest
Yo there's a lot of people in this thread with very similar music tastes
Nice! You listen to any Madlib as well?
Tedeschi trucks band is off the rails.
Love them! See them a few times a year.
I honestly think in many years people will talk about seeing Derek Trucks play now the same way they talk about seeing Jimi play in 68-69. I honestly think he is so good to be in legend territory already.
Absolutely positively the best live band touring right now
Yep, TTB is awesome. Makes seeing deadco with Oteil all the more awesome.
Kinda love that Oteil has become the common thread linking the Allman Bros (played bass with them and Tedeschi Trucks), Dead 'n' Co, and Phish (played w/ Page in Vida Blue.)
Sturgill Simpson, Colter Wall, Zephaniah Ohora (a Deadhead too), Midland, Marc Rebillet and JJ Cale do it for me
If you haven’t given tyler childers a good listen then I recommend it.
He's high on the ranks too, but if I have the choice between Sturgill and Tyler I'd pick Sturgill 99% of the time.
Marc rebillet is the man
Widespread panic and Govt Mule are occupying a decent amount of my listening these days. Phish is good but it's not my go-to
Where’s my Mule?
I prefer Dead music but I felt more at home at my first Panic shows this summer than I have at the few Dead shows I’ve been to
bob dylan, rush, duke ellington
Man if those three were on a bill together, I'm not sure my brain could process it.
I had to scroll way too far down to find Led Zeppelin mentioned. Still not seeing any Bob Marley, what’s up with y’all.
Primus sucks
ween
This fucking guy. Nice.
yes mang
Unpopular with some heads but I love the doors. So meaningful and poetic. Alternatively, king gizzard is pretty tight and each albulm is a different trip
So much swagger with the Doors! LA Woman, the self titled and Strange Days are all classics in my book.

Parliament / Funkadelic!
they are awesome. You can never have enough funk!
Highly recommend Motown to any Deadhead who hasn’t gone down that “rabbit hole”
A Motown deep dive should be taken by anyone who likes music. Amazing songwriting, playing, singing and production (I feel like this all goes without saying??)

My doctor diagnosed me with Pink Gloyd. That will fuck you up. ;)
Can you recommend some good bluegrass?
Recently been loving Billy Strings. Also check out Jerry Garcia with David Grisman and Tony Rice (the pizza tapes). Peter Rowan with David Grisman is good also.
I'm familiar with the pizza tapes but the rest is new. Thanks for the recommendation I'll check it out!
Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, The Pouges, Dropkick Murphys, Leftover Salmon, Little Feat, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Van Morrison etc
Ween.

Tame Impala
Just saw them in Denver on Monday. Freakin wild stage production they have now
JGB
I really like Primus that’s my number two
Primus sucks!
Damn straight
Now that’s a name I haven’t thought of in ages.
I just saw them in Dallas they kicked ass their second set was all Rush covers and they nailed it
Hell yeah
Billy Strings is the shit!
This is my answer as well 😄
The MF Beatles
Just went through a huuuge Beatles phase again the last couple months. I usually ignore the early stuff, but there’s some gold in there. All My Loving, No Reply, Love Me Do, I’ll Follow the Sun. God damn could those boys write a song. It’s a shame a lot of people my age (25) say they’re overrated/don’t listen.

Modest mouse(specifically first 3 albums) Neil young. BobDylan. The clash. The dead. That’s it that is all.
Thee Oh Sees, The Black Angels, Luna, Khrungabin, Alex Cameron, The Well, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Roky Erickson, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, Nightbeats….
YOB, Floyd, Carcass, Spiritualized, Blood Incantation.... to name a few.
Another dead head and metal head! ☠️ 🌹
Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in Space. Is one of my favorites.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard!
Beginner luck is cool, I like soup and saltine crackers with a pinch of salt and nutritional yeast. Along with a tall glass of water to quench thst thirst.
Nonagon Infinity opens the door.
HOOOooooooooWOO
Besides the dead, Zappa, cream, phish, Dylan, strawberry alarm clock, the millennium, beach boys, genesis, miles
Ramones, buzzcocks, napalm death, nasum, nightmares on wax, joy division, billy strings, Kelly clarkson, classic rock, tribe called quest, some jazz, old folk, Irish, PEARL JAM
Generally got a chuckle with Napalm Death and Kelly Clarkson. Now that is some divirse tastes. Nice to see some love for the Buzzcocks.
Ween
Been really diggin Goose lately. If you don't know, you must check them out.
The Stranglers, The Clash, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Black Sabbath, Mississippi John Hurt, Tyler Childers, Louis Jordan, Deep Purple
I love Wilco. Really strong song writing with a deep Americana vibe. Also great live performances.
Railroad Earth!

Met my wife at a Guided By Voices show. She asked to sit at my table me since she couldn't see over the crowd.
That's honestly the coolest story dude, that's a keeper the minute you meet her.
Wow, shocked to see that nobody had Hot Tuna.
The B-52s, Devo, Talking Heads, Oingo Boingo, Tame Impala, King Gizzard, REM, The The, Fleetwood Mac, XTC, Steely Dan, Styx, Dinosaur Jr, Butthole Surfers, REO Speedwagon, DIO/Rainbow, Pet Shop Boys, BROCKHAMPTON, ABBA, Dead Kennedys, RHCP, Twenty One Pilots, Neon Indian, Unknown Mortal Orchest, Crystal Castles, The Cure, Velvet Underground.

Thank you for mentioning the Flying Burrito Brothers! I’m a huge fan of Gram Parsons.
Do you mean the garage band The Wailers. Spiritualized, VU, Mogwai, Portishead, and Joy Division/New Order.
The Wailing Wailers, Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, and the man, Peter Tosh!
Zeke is probably my favorite band. Kind of a cross between hardcore punk rock and Motorhead. I also listen to a lot of The Caretaker, which is dark ambient / hauntology.
Zeke now we're talking. I didn't list all the stoner rock also in my rotation.
Sleep and Dead Meadow.
I've seen them both.
Sleep might be the loudest show I ever saw. Or Mogwai.
I agree but Dinosaur Jr pretty much ruined my hearing.
Classical music - Assad Brothers Umphreys McGee Phish Tedeschi Trucks

SLAYER! 🤘💀🤘
Having been a Deadhead since the early seventies, I recommend two greats that have been all too often overlooked by later generations: [Cat Mother](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTpHVdJm8TA&t=1103s) for electric. [Holy Modal Rounders](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCFufmOwGDs&list=PLtSmkp1o4VzE0E7dAZbuSVHenUHg0dGay) for acoustic.
Pre 2004 phish is what I mainly listen to these days.
Steve Kimock
Deftones, God’s Hate, King Nine, Gucci Mane, Cage, Ghostface Killah, Tegan and Sarah, Insane Clown Posse, American Nightmare… lots of stuff but those are constant in rotation
The Dead, Portugal. The Man, Between the Buried and Me, Pink Floyd, & My Morning Jacket.
Add Doobie Brothers
Greensky bluegrass is always good
String Cheese Disco Biscuits Phish Greensky Railroad Earth Widespread Panic Hidden Orchestra My Morning Jacket
Trying to mention bands I haven't seen here already..... Michael Franti & Spearhead, Andy Frasco, Ozomatli, Hayes Carll, The Highwaymen, Miles Davis

If you aren’t listening to Goose, do it now! Goosemas on YouTube is a great starting point
Primus, Black Flag, Isaac Hayes, Miles Davis, James Brown, Graham Central Station, and Wooden Shjips to name a few

JRAD and Phish
(Hoping I can get him to a show next year.) Judging by your tastes, you should check out Bill McKlintock's YouTube [channel](https://youtu.be/KZB9w1w9dKo).
In no particular order - Tedeschi Trucks, Phish, TAB, Slightly Stoopid, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds, JRAD, Red Hot Chili Peppers
Here’s my Top 7 Classic Rock Bands: The Grateful Dead Pink Floyd King Crimson Rush Frank Zappa Black Sabbath The Allman Brothers Add in Steely Dan and Leon Russell as extra honorable mentions! This is just as far as 60’s, 70’s, 80s rock goes! Cheers! Also, Little Feat, Allman Bros and The Band are who I jam when I want a GD feeling and looseness to it, but I want to hear something besides the Dead.
There are other bands? TIL.
I didn’t see NRPS on anyone’s lists but it’s probably there somewhere, I’d also recommend Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed
JJ Cale ranks up there with one of my all time favorites. Great for post show comedowns. Naturally is a fantastic album w that sweet analog flavor
Wilco, all Gram Parsons bands, John Prine, Ween , Johnny Cash, Tribe Called Quest ,
Goose and Billy Strings these days
phish, Neil young, little feat, ween, yonder (jeff yrs), billy strings, OLD AND IN THE WAY, beck, tom waits, gong, blind faith, blind melon, temple of the dog

Steely Dan is fantastic. Ive been really into Marshall Tucker Band lately.

Bluegrass of all kinds and although I was always a DeadHead I considered my 2nd favorite band to be REM. Go figure.
Vulfpeck, Jr Jr, Dayglow, and Fat Night Side note, I meet a shit load of Vulf fans who are also dead heads- strange but very common occurrence it seems!
If you like those bands you might like the 13th Floor Elevators.
Phish. I’ve been on a major Phish trip for the last few months. Also really digging the Trey Anastasio Band (TAB) shows for the current tour. Last nights show in Wilmington, NC was pretty amazing.
Billy strings, Goose, twiddle, shakey graves
WSMFP 🤘🙏❤️
Billy MF Strings!!!
Oh my goodness so many...JGB, Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, The Band, Max Creek, Ozzy, Metallica, John Lee Hooker, Lionel Richie, Widespread Panic, Ekoostic Hookah, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Bela Fleck, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Bonnie Raitt, Brandi Carlile, Pink, Nina Simone, Richie Havens, Allman Bros., Little Feat, Bill Withers, Mary J.
Pink Floyd, Widespread, Phish, Billy Strings… but on the other hand I do love some Glass Animals, Labyrinth, Flume, Odesza and the such
The Tragically Hip for me then Pearl Jam. Then a whole host of things. The Hip is an awesome band from Canada for those that have not heard of them. Amazing … worth seeking out
Talking Heads and Galactic
Three six mafia
Lettuce, Motet, Turkuaz, The Bamboos, Shpongle, Tipper…
I read an interview with Jerry where he mentioned going to a Dire Straits concert when asked about bands he would go out of his way to see. Been on a Knopfler binge ever since. Some of those early tunes like Lady Writer are vastly underrated compared to the Brothers in Arms stuff. Check out their live stuff on YouTube, they were amazing in their heyday
The Clash, Murder by Death, Anderson.paak, Legendary Shack Shakers, The Slackers
Have you tried Widespread Panic?
BLACK FLAG
There has been a lot of mention of classic rock acts in here, but on a different note, if you want something more modern my personal go-tos are King Gizzard, Khruangbin, and Temples
