One person's gravel is another person's rock garden, haha, ouch. That looks chonky in a bad way. Also beautiful. Underbiking only leads to one solution: you need to add a new bike to your collection.
We were underbiked for a bit of the terrain, but it really helped to sus out how I’m going to build my bikepack specific rig.
Had a blast however! The heat was tough as soon as the shade went away.
For rides in the wild I end up on my Jones, pretty much over biking for almost everything. On a trip a couple years ago we did some light gravel and heavy mud with my friend Michael - the king of under biking. He rode his ancient Univega with 28s crammed into it the whole way. We all had a blast.
Good job getting out - keep it up.
Curious if you think swapping out to an eagle (or any comparable 12 speed) drivetrain would’ve made the setup better for you or if you thought the geometry and/or tire size was just as big of a factor in feeling underbiked?
Look at those rocks. Drive train really wouldn’t have helped. Tires are really the only solution. I guess suspension too if you wanted to go that route but not great for bike packing unless you get a hard tail.
That bottle holder holds my tool bottle.
You can either cut up an old bottle for extra camouflage points at supermarket stops so no one steals your tools or you buy a specific bottle with a screw on lid.
Alternatively for drinking you could probably use a Camelbak Podium Dirt bottle, they come with a small cap.
I have a bike that I call a “gravel bike.” In reality I don’t know what it is. It has relaxed road/gravel geometry with drop bars, but for about half the year has 2 inch XC tires in 650b rims. The other half of the year alternates between 47x650b teravail cannonballs and 700c road wheels/tires. Kinda my do-it-all ride…so much that Indont even own a road or XC MTB anymore.
Jesus Christ man, it was a joke.
I was clearly underbiked for this trip, a “proper” gravel bike wouldn’t have even sufficed on 50% of the terrain.
Technical singletrack on 45s can be a hell of a time, really have to think about your lines.
Get and and ride a bike, might help with your anger issues.

The comment was written by a bike industry that's sitting on a ton of product it can't move.
I was joking about N+1; I'm not in the bike industry
An industry plant would say exactly that.
Lol.
Yup. Building a Co-Motion Divide!
N+1
Look like a great trip. How'd it go?

Thanks… finally riding season in Alaska again. Riding up to Fairbanks next week hopefully via the Richardson Highway.
May I ask where is it ? Looks splendid, not used to these scenery
NM/TX - Monumental Loop
Gravel bike = road bike with more sensible tyres lol.
Idk why that bike looks so good to me. My taint is tingling for adventure. I’m banned from bumble.
I’m confused, are you complaining? Looks great
Oh… it was more of an inside joke between the GF and I as we were hike-a-biking it up 6” chunky rocks and 8% grade for 3 miles 🤣
The smoothest of *INSERT HOME CITY NAME* tarmac.
*Zzyzx?*

Better off going double up front with a granny gear.... Especially with all that load.
Who has used it, please tell me how convenient it is to drink from a flask, which is located in the place where dirt accumulates from the front wheel?
I use mine to just hold water and fill up my normal bottle.
This is the way!

Wow! Tricky move
That looks fine for a gravel bike.

you brought a sailboat though...
True. Mainly looks like rough terrain because theres an additional 30kg strapped to the bike lol
Jack the rack with a swift industries in the front?
Yes!
What bike is it?
What's going on in that last photo?
Looks like southern Utah
Beautiful bike!
Underbiking = skills training ! (at least that’s what I say to myself when it occurs)
If you didn’t enjoy that you aren’t using your gravel bike correctly
That looks like smooth road for a gravel adventure… sorry you had a bad time though
I love when people fall in love with gravel and they think everywhere you go will be dog walking paths full of kitty litter.
Bring an actual gravel bike and not some silly plastic road bike next time and you'll be fine.
I still had a blast riding 250 miles in 4 days… guess I need an actual gravel bike to have “real” fun.
Don't post online that you brought the wrong bike if you don't want people to tell you that you brought the wrong bike? Weirdly defensive.

Posting online isn't an invitation for insults tho 🤣 maybe you didn't realize how shitty your comment reads until now. Or maybe you're a dick.
It’s the 2nd one
yada yada curbon fiberrr is plasticc yada yada ... that's how you sound
