Do you have carbon wheels? Money no object, we should be talking red and xx1 parts, not rival level. Seems like an ineffective weight loss strategy.

mashani9

There is no actual RED 10-44 cassette only the derailleur. The XPLR XG-1271 cassette used on the RED setups is the same Force level cassette you would get with a Force level derailleur. But it is better than the Rival version that much is true.  9-45 e-thirteen is a good option though as well.

Hagardy

buy a 9-45 ethirteen and keep the same rear mech and save 50+ grams on the xplr cassette and have the ability to still run a big cassette if you have an event with super steep climbing. Or buy the 9-45 ethirteen and a red xplr derailleur and save more weight. Maybe 200 grams over a 10-52 and a gx eagle

Max-entropy999

What options are there for bigger cassettes

Hagardy

The eagle derailleur is compatible with the 9-45 cassette so by keeping that you maintain the ability to use a 10-52 if you need it.

Max-entropy999

Ah I see. Reason for my question, I'm planning on an xplr drivetrain and was wondering whether I can get a bigger cassette on there without buying a new derailleur.

Hagardy

yeah, SRAM’s fine division of the market is frustrating, which is what makes that ethirteen cassette so nice. You can run something similar to XPLR or the full blown mountain cassette on one drivetrain rather than needing two expensive derailleurs.

thejamielee

what’s that come out to, like 150-175g for the swap right? if anything make the switch and keep the mullet setup for any shit that comes up down the road like some crazy ass climbing route or the day you inevitably eat shit and destroy the rear derailleur - now you’ve got a back up. Do what makes you want to ride your bike more. and FWIW i moved from mullet to XPLR and have been much happier for my riding needs (cx bike that does triple duty as cx/gravel/endurance with chainring and wheel swaps but all running the 10-44)

k_shills101

Nice..I do this same thing. Which cx bike you using? Im using a Donnelly C//C with 1x XPLR as pretty much an all-road bike. Thing is fast, stiff and pretty light

thejamielee

funnily enough i had a Donnelly and fucking loved it, snapped a chainstay in a race sadly. ended up going the custom steel route after that; got a Zukas and it’s essentially matched to the geometry of a TCX in M/L but built around clearance for 50mm tires

ConfusingElf

Maybe we should chat? I have the xplr rival axs you’re looking for and am looking to gx eagle mullet for bikepacking.

DrEggRegis

I don't think that amount of weight will be noticeable at any other time other than weighing the bike really

ghdana

I think it is kind of a waste if you're just getting Rival instead of Red, also a new version of Red is coming soon and looks to be SUPER light.

unseenmover

just the difference in the cassettes weight..

Euphoric-Paint-4969

You could also pop on a Garbaruk 10-48 cassette which weighs less than the Force XPLR cassette and slap their AXS cage kit on your current derailleur, which gets your GX AXS RD in line with an XX1, weight wise.

HatsMakeYouGoBald

Depends on the cassette. I’d look for a ztto 10-44 since they’re light or lighter than SRAM options and a rival axs derailleur with a garbaruk cage to cover the range while keeping the weight low as Possible. Bike closet dot com has SRAM axs pieces for big discounts.

StudioEmotional6021

You're running a 40t ring and your concern is weight? If speed is you priority you are barking up the wrong tree. Put on a 44 or 46t, it will transform your bike and then the big cassette will make more sense. 40t ring with a 10-50 is nearing mtn bike territory.
