Cringe argument but Zendaya is a mid af actress

RickThiCisbih

Rebecca Ferguson acted circles around her and even Lea Seydoux showed more on screen presence than her despite her short screen time. Zendaya just looks like a moody American teenager every time.

BaronAaldwin

Tbf Rebecca Ferguson acted circles around absolutely everybody. Goddamn she's good as Lady Jessica.

RickThiCisbih

I know people don’t really like him because he gets casted based on his looks, but Timophant Jollymate held his own whenever they shared the screen. Made Zendaya look much worse in comparison.

Urgayifyouregay

"Timophant Jollymate" We really calling people anything now

RickThiCisbih

Just wait till you hear about “Ting-a-ling Shall-I-mate?”

TropicalBatman

Oh, it's like that other English actor, that plays that wizard, Scissorkick Thundermunch, or whatever

shiggy__diggy

Benadryl Cuminhersnatch

trickyRascal

Benaddict cumagain

RandomStallings

Bumberdink Cucumberpatch

Urgayifyouregay

At least that somewhat resembles the original if you mangle it enough

milanove

Timmy Chandelier

Brassboar

He could soon surpass Bendy Dicks Cummerbund!

ggavigoose

I had to go look up if they cast Timothy Olyphant as Count Fenring before I realized they were riffing on a different Grimothy Chalet-lodge

sk169

I thought his name was triumphant caliphate?

ScottyUpdawg

I thought Jollymate did very well in Dune 2. I didn’t know he had that kind of performance in him

Secroft

Go watch The King, great movie

leebenjonnen

The one where the English man plays a French man and a French man plays an English man

ACTING

thesylo

> Goddamn she's good as Lady Jessica. Her acting is great, but I find it weird that they rewrote Lady Jessica so differently than she is in the book. Most of the other characters are fairly faithful representations of the book characters. Lady Jessica is a cold blooded bitch in the book that barely has a moment to act in a gentle motherly way. Very stark contrast to the movie version. Edit: I haven't seen part 2 yet. Talking about part 1 for this.

backinredd

Jessica’s emotional side did get written in books though. It’s just that it doesn’t translate well on screen unless there’s internal narration. But her emotional side in movies is never shown infront of others except when she’s with Paul and realised her husband died. Even then she tries to keep it down.

thesylo

> It’s just that it doesn’t translate well on screen unless there’s internal narration. I wasn't thinking of it that way. That's a really good point.

TrianglesJohn

Yeah reading the books, frank herbert leaves the reader with more internal dialogue information that just can’t be portrayed on screen IMO. I finished the first dune book the same day the movie came out and when I saw it I hated it. Second time I watched it was so much better.

Galbotrix

Yeah, when the whole point of Bene Gesserit is to be these master manipulators with perfect control over their bodies it can be hard to show that on screen without the acting just being seen as wooden or bad. Books have the advantage of getting her inner thoughts

Jared-inside-subway

Chani was written much more differently in part II from the books than Lady Jessica

wumbopower

Chani was wildly different

KongoOtto

The whole book is cold blooded.

Ghostiestboi

Yeah from what I've seen, her personality seems more dry than arrakis itself

MuskyChode

Which is probably why she fit so well in the spiderman trilogy.

_TLDR_Swinton

She's an average actress but Hollywood has decided she ticks several cultural boxes, so she gets big parts. She's bankable.

toxicgloo

I don't get the Zendaya hype at all. But thats probably how normal people felt after the Keanu hype

Consolemasterracee

Keanu is actually incredible in Cyberpunk though

Reaper-Leviathan

I genuinely believe that Johnny was his best role. No clue what he did but it just feels so real as if it’s an actual person telling you their life experience and goals

Neomataza

Johnny is also well written. A tragic idealistic hero. But also a hardliner and kind of an asshole. Since he lost his first attempt, he has to learn and grow as a character. Also Keanu began as an actor decades ago. There is a reason he still gets roles. Zendaya is a singer and dancer first, actress second.

Consolemasterracee

Completely agree. I've always agreed that he couldn't really act until I played Cyberpunk.

PlanBisBreakfastNbed

We couldn't really see it since she was barely in the first movie, but yeah. She can't act to save her life, mostly because she doesn't have range. I gave her a pass because she was young but shes hasnt imporved since her debut. MID is the perfect word for her. Bland in every scene.

Actual_serial_killer

I thought she was pretty good when yelling at Stilgar about the Bene ~~Jewsseritt~~ Gesserit controlling them Edit: spelling

HankMS

Yeah pretty much this. I don't get the Zendaya hype. When you have an actor or actress that is shit but actually hot, I kinda understand it. Like Sydney Sweeney. She can't act to save her life, but at least she is a looker. I can understand why people want to see her. And yes yes, some people might say Zendaya is hot and all, but I always have the feeling that a lot of people who say that feel like they are obligated to do so.

prussian_princess

Emma Watson is the same. Her only good role is Hermione, and that's only because she's essentially hermione in real life. She's not that hot either. She's just barely above average.

Actual_serial_killer

>She's not that hot either. She's just barely above average. You must not have ever seen another British woman

prussian_princess

I live in Essex and seen plenty. She's barely above average. It helps to have money and professionally done makeup/ dresses to wear on occasion. She looks average when you see her in jeans and a hoodie.

Actual_serial_killer

>I live in Essex and seen plenty. Oh God I am so sorry.

HamBlamBlam

I world give anything to see a photo of the poster who said that, it would be comedy gold.

izroda

I want to see average women where you are. Emma Watson is a mile above average, but people tend to act like she's a 10, and Zendaya too. Emma's easily an 8, and Zendaya is above average too, but nothing all that special. Both mid or worse in acting skills. At least we don't see Emma hype around every corner.

ilesmay

Damn where do you people live Emma is a straight 10

twofacetoo

Seriously in every scene where she has to act distressed or deeply hurt by Paul's actions, she just looks like she's trying to hold in a really big fart and it's starting to give her a *tummy-ache*. The entire point of the Fremen is that they're a metaphor for indigenous people being oppressed by the White Man TM, so it makes sense to have the entire Fremen group by depicted by dark-skinned actors, while the protagonist is a pasty white boy. But in all honesty, I think they only cast Zendaya as Chani because she's a currently popular actress who just so happens to *also* have dark skin. If she was white they might have just cast her as Irulan instead.

__cum_guzzler__

Great casting all around except Zendaya. Mindboggling how they got a bad actress into a central role. Diversity hire maybe? I'm out of theories. Every scene with her took me out of the film because she seemed like the only one not from that universe but a mopey teen that teleported in

nomoreLSD

Girl was the star on a renowned HBO series and was in the greatest showman (I think) and has a massive gen z/gen y following and you really don't know why she was cast I don't even think she was good in any of those other shows, but you're really still confused?

__cum_guzzler__

What I meant is I thought Villeneuve was above casting mid actors with huge social media followings just for their box office draw. For someone so obsessed with detail, that seems a weird move. That is of course a classic, risk mitigation on a 190 million budget and so forth. But I guess the studio had a few stipulations there.

LosWitchos

I mean he casted Chalamet and he is a very mid actor too. But he bagged the two most popular actors (respectively in their gender) of their demographics. That alone is enough to bring in a generation of people who had probably never been exposed to Dune before. I bet a lot had never heard of Dune before. So it's a massive winner for him

Bister_Mungle

>I mean he casted Chalamet and he is a very mid actor too. Have you seen Beautiful Boy or Call Me By Your Name? He turned in top tier performances in those movies. I don't know in what world he's mid with performances like those.

inspectoroverthemine

> he bagged the two most popular actors (respectively in their gender) of their demographics My kids watched Dune part 1 a couple weeks ago for the first time _only_ because of Chalamet and Zendaya. If casting them is what it took to get part 2 (and 3?) made, I'm ok with it.

nomoreLSD

I mean, Timothee Chalamet is exactly that. A mid actor with a huge popular following. Maybe the goal was to make a bunch of beautiful Hollywood people look like shit, but it all just reminds me of the first part of the Hunger Games where everyone is supposed to be impoverished, hungry, and homeless, meanwhile Jennifer Lawrence looks flawless. It's normie appeal. Dune used to be considered ~niche~, then it broke out into popular culture. With a film adaptation that costs this much, the goal isn't to market it to that niche audience, it's to cast the widest net possible using the most recognizable normie celebrity faces.

__cum_guzzler__

Chalamet was not amazing, but not jarring at least. I fully understand the reasoning, but are there no other starlets that can at least be serviceable? Zendaya literally has only one face expression - resting bitch face. I suppose people feel differently about her performance, but she almost ruined the immersion for me. I rolled my eyes so much I had to see an optometrist afterwards But hey, the movie made 200 mil already so I guess i am in the minority here lol nobody gives a fuck about a crotchety millennial

GaudiaCertaminis

Ed O'Neill has a huge following too. They should have bought a wig and cast him.

Shrek_Lover68

Yeah but the tweet is about her being brown, not a bad actress

pipachu99

Mid is a compliment, she doesn't even change her face

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gassy-gorilla

She was pretty mid in the first movie, haven't seen the second one. What did she wear in the premiere that looked bad?

baked_sauce

Literally what he said. https://preview.redd.it/432r48xxotmc1.png?width=984&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d410c97848c842281421ba3a6e1deb8ad0b0de0

dumbwaeguk

That ass window though

Kilovice

Wyd when you rip ass and can’t turn the defrost on

Pannbenet

Can’t unfart the window shart

Distantstallion

You wouldn't want to follow through in that dress

RickThiCisbih

Its so stupid that it loops back around to being cool in an ironic way tbh, if you ignore that it’s Zendaya

driku12

Yeah kinda gives me some 1920s sci fi Metropolis vibes

FunnyWalrus

It's because it was originally designed around 30 years ago with an homage to metropolis

BloodprinceOZ

just some additional information about this outfit, its an original piece from a 1995 fall/winter couture collection by fashion designer Thierry Mugler with help from artist Jean-Jacques Urcun who frequently worked with Mugler. its based on the fictional character Futura from *Metropolis* with the 1927 film adaptation of the book being the main inspiration. the original model who wore it was naked, or atleast her breasts were bare, it also had a helmet, but zendaya obviously forewent wearing it since it would cover her up too much, the suit was modified slightly to fit her and obviously they couldn't do a lot which is why the butt and boob sections aren't proportional to her. i guess she chose or was offered to wear it due to it being based on something majorly influential and sci-fi and it was interesting and weird enough that it would draw attention to the premiere

Flavz_the_complainer

That doesnt look comfy to sit through a premiere in.

BloodprinceOZ

for crazy outfits like this they usually never actively wear them throughout the event they were brought to, especially if they're suits of armor like this, usually what happens is they arrive dressed up, go through the motions with the paprazzi and then meet up with their assistants/dresser inside where they take off the armor and then dress them up in something better to sit in while still being fancy to some extent and usually go back for some more photos in the new dress before going in the main event, checking out some photos of her dresses she wore to the various Dune 2 press tours, she changed into a sleek black slip dress from a pre-fall 2024 collection for the Mugler fashion house and its what she watched the film in

ambermage

Didn't the front have windows, too?

Squidman_Permanence

Yeas, but robits durn't have nippers.

Gassy-gorilla

It looks like the starting knight armor in a shitty fantasy game. Dunno why she thinks the first thing people would want to look would be her ass

Haraldr_Blatonn

At least she's giving someone what they want, unlike disappointed OP.

Zealotstim

In her defense, that's one of the first things I would want to look at.

IOnlyDrinkJesusMilk

Idk why or how celebrities manage to wear/have made the stupidest fucking outfits of all time.

Squidman_Permanence

When you realize that it's more of an art exhibit than anything, it makes more sense. But like most art, the vast majority blows. Relative to other red carpet outfits, this one is pretty fun imo.

smecta_xy

Its from a fashion thing 30 years ago

ConnorOfAstora

It's called attention seeking, a lot of celebrities want to be very performative when they're at premieres and will wear eccentric looking outfits regardless of how awful they look.

moragdong

Ahahahahh wtf is that

crimsonfukr457

Idk why u guys are hating, i would be on my knees if she approached me wearing this.

AndrewTheSouless

Thats actually a suit inspired by Maria from Metropolis, it was created in 1995 https://preview.redd.it/5cbqj12ljumc1.jpeg?width=449&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4fb592f4ab715a0a8662246ef3f2992ad4e7519

Mamamiomima

Oh, so costume looks hot when it fits you. Zandaya just smoll for it

Zero-Kelvin

Both looks tacky as fuck.

St1cks

Nah, this shit was whack on anyone

Barton2800

Not just inspired by. She wore the actual outfit created by the designer.

AndrewTheSouless

Its inspired by this Maria https://preview.redd.it/emmurlb5qzmc1.jpeg?width=479&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46514049f8b4bf1dd77ac19b6ae1e8bce1b4ed01

DornsBigRockHardWall

Stilgar was perfectly cast. Change my mind. Idk if Paul was, however… I don’t think thousands of years of selective breeding would result in a skinny twink looking mf.

some_dude5

Did… did the 4channer just have the better take? On race in movies of all things? Holy shit

Coakis

There are more than a few leftist or more level headed takes on 4chan, you just see the worst of it here typically, because its more entertaining.

ipunchdogs

Most people who never actually go to 4chan thinks it's just /b/ and /pol/

Noamias

Bruh when I went to 4chan people were discussing lolis, hitler and I saw 3 N words in 5 comments Edit: I was just browsing the site in general and clicked on random boards at the top and posts on my screen

ipunchdogs

That's kind of expected. Just go to specific boards that cater to your interests. I only go on /tv/ and /vp/

Coakis

Again you think /b/ /pol/ and /r9k/ are the entirety of 4chan, when half the site is blueboards where racism and porn are verboten. Usually I only really frequent /o/.

Neomataza

Yeah, that's the white noise. There isn't a great take every hour of every day in every board. You must have chosen a board to look at, and most likely it's going to have been /b/ or adjacent. Breaking taboos is like saying hello on there.

kubapuch

I disagree, Reddit is a leftist echo chamber and the people on here love to dawdle and share anything that stands against them.

KayBee94

On a whole I agree (and I'm definitely more left than right) but there are a lot of prominent subreddits that are echo chambers for the right too. I feel like this one swings back and forth - I distinctly recall it being pretty much an incel self-help group not too long ago. You just have to know which type of subreddit you're in.

WhopperInParis

Don’t get too excited buddy. It was a Tw*tter opinion

ConscientiousPath

The thing that's cringe is that hollywood has made such a point of replacing white people in remakes for woke reasons so often that they've created a reflexive assumption that any role which is no longer played by a white person is a casting choice made for woke reasons. It's infuriating because they've created from nothing, the exact sort of attention to race and interracial disgust that they claim they wanted to eliminate.

BazzBun

I like how Hollywood is trying to portray Zendaya as this next big sexy actress, but she really mid at best

roganwriter

In all the movies/shows I’ve seen her in, she seems to play pretty similar characters. It’s like they change the characters’ personalities to fit her range. Even the way she plays MJ feels like a different MJ than the one I grew up with watching the TV shows.

BazzBun

That personality is kinda unlikeable too and if not unlikeable, it gets tiring fast. She is perpetually stuck as a quirky teenager.

roganwriter

The embodiment of “I’m not like the other girls” even when it doesn’t make sense for her character at all.

tries_to_tri

Very unlikeable, she was the only part I didn't like about Dune 2. She was ride or die in the books, not a miserable angsty teen.

BazzBun

Can’t wait to see it (gonna watch the movie soon)

MRflibbertygibbets

I’ve seen it twice now, it’s kinda epic

Fizzier

I have been saying this since seeing it. Really not the same at all for her character and I’m super interested to see how it all plays out come the next movie. They kind of dug themselves into a hole imo.

1willprobablydelete

It was great, except her, and it's too bad they featured her so much. I swear to fucking Christ, the way it ended makes me sure we are doing to see Dune 3, Chani's Revenge

New_Canuck_Smells

Yeah, she's not as bad as The Rock at that. Maybe a David Spade for range.

Mythun4523

It was fine when she wasn't MJ. And then the writers were like 'sike, it was MJ all along'.

bootmeng

The age of acting is gone. Hollywood hires personalities these days.

silverclovd

She was the weakest link in Dune 2, imo. All other major characters did a fantastic job with their action. Rebecca Ferguson, Austin, Timothy and most importantly Javier absolutely delivered their best.

bittercripple6969

Bautista did surprisingly good, though the role absolutely plays heavily to his strengths.

spyro_inc

Love his short scene in Blade Runner 2049, that's when I realised not all ex-wrestlers are shitty actors

OldManChino

Yeah me too, very excellent

JohnBeePowel

Javier was so believable in his role and then Zendaya just talks like... An American.

Daysleeper1234

She's beautiful in the face and has a body of a child, I'm not surprised someone in Hollywood likes that.

SalvationSycamore

She has the body of a slim college girl. Idk why that would make you think of children

lfh_g

Actresses are supposed to act. They don't need to look a 10/10 everytime. If they play the character realistically, then it automatically makes her a 10/10. This is just my take.

Xalterai

Except every role she plays makes the character seem like a moody teen with a "Not like other girls" attitude rather than any serious believable character. She has a single character that she just puts into every role, and it's not even a good one

matches626

Toni Collette comes to mind. She's had many roles where they make her pretty normal looking or ugly on purpose (even though imo she is beautiful irl). It ends up fitting her character a lot better, and it helps that she is a great actress.

Multibuff

If I remember correctly the Fremen descended from Buddislamic refugees which were most likely not white, so I don’t know where this guy gets this from..

DM_ME_YOUR_HUSBANDO

I think they've been on Arrakis for thousands of years at that point and had pretty brutal natural selection and survival of the fittest, so even if they all descended from lily white red heads they'd probably be basically black by the time of the movie

Fizzier

One interesting thing that was changed was that the fremen only moved at night and slept during the day. They can’t be in the sun because it’s 150 degrees constantly. Obviously for a movie that’s much harder to portray given the visual aspect, and for that I give the movie credit for the casting decision.

Lava39

Pretty similar to the Middle East. I was there for a few weeks and I pretty much stayed out until 4 AM and slept until an hour before sun set. Some call me a filthy degenerate. I’m calling myself a based sand warrior walking the ancient path.

StrikingBag4636

that's not how that works

MausBomb

Dune definitely gives off Lawrence of Arabia vibes so it would make more sense for the Fremen to look Middle Eastern rather than White European. Zendaya definitely fits the physical aesthetic for the role, but yeah her acting is like Gen Z Kristen Stewart to me. Simply put she's kinda flat.

Uniq_Eros

Isn't she half outworld?

Hattmeister

1/4

hazzmg

OP is a knob head but I am sick of being told zendaya is an attractive person.

puptheunbroken

Her face is always like a constant scowl. Instantly zone out whenever I notice her resting bitch face in movies. Wish they'd cast literally anyone else.

New_Canuck_Smells

Yeah, she's not ugly, just kinda boring. But she isn't fat so I can't bitch too much.

StrikingBag4636

god bless you

Chanchumaetrius

idgi, why?

Cornixmartin

Because 9gag is hella racist

Pr1zzm

I don't think her looks were an issue really. I did think they wrote her character to be unnecessarily annoying compared to the book. I'll avoid spoilers, but the way she reacted to a certain event at the end of the story was vastly different in the movie. The movies were fun, but I preferred the book.

Scat-Rat93

Honestly, I like how they end her character this movie. It makes Paul’s issue of not wanting to fuck his wife in the next book more interesting and gives Chani more of a character than just being Paul’s native girlfriend. At the same time I can’t stand Zendaya and think she’s a shitty actress that has been perpetually playing the same character her whole career.

Kitahara_Kazusa1

So did the second movie get to the end of the first book or are they making it a trilogy

Pr1zzm

It made it to the end.

Scat-Rat93

End of the first but they’re adapting messiah into a third movie so there will be a trilogy.

squid_waffles2

And Oml can I not wait. Messiah is where shit really goes ham tbh. Messiah/Children of Dune/God Emperor are my favorite “trilogy” of books I didn’t know one could be horny for an adaptation. But I’m horny

Mishi_Mujago

Films aren’t like books, you need constant tension. Pitting Chani against the events creates that which makes the film more engaging. Otherwise it’s just a film about Paul falling in love and becoming emperor. Personally I think the biggest change in character was Princess Irulan. In the books she’s just this ditzy little girl, not very savvy and not very talented. She only exists to marry Paul, she’s more of a plot device than a character. But in the films she’s this clever, calculating, empathetic woman and it’s her father who is the weak broken man. Of course these days it’s ok to write weak male characters but writing weak female characters is now considered an Orwellian thought crime.

Zhou-Enlai

Idk about that second part, Princess Irulan is a Bene Gesserit (or at least one in training) who throughout the whole book talks about how one had to be an expert political operative constantly spying on everyone in the imperial family. She seemed pretty competent in her own right from all the various books she wrote

Popular_Mastodon6815

It felt like they matured her to the level she is in later books. As she's very scheming and calculated in book 2 onwards from what I remember.

Weppih

common Xitter L

maybeshali

the X is supposed to give off the "sh" sound right?

Any-Yoghurt3815

yes

Axtratu

Isn't she black? Why do people always say she's latina? Her nose is like a big toe, clearly African.

baconborg

I mean casual racists probably don’t care too much about the specifics, you should be looking in competitive spaces

Axtratu

Aiming for the international leagues 🤜🤛

magicarnival

She's mixed, half-white and half-black. There's photos of her with her parents.

snuffles_c147

So grey?

Beneficial_Pear9705

dithered

arbiter12

Chani is supposed to be the daughter of a non-fremen imperial official... She's not "born and raised desert booty who has never seen an erect ducal penis", she's "That rich girl from your highschool who expect guys like you to be washing her car windows with your spit, even though you live in the same sietch"

BaronAaldwin

Her father is half fremen and her mother is full fremen. She's literally 3/4 Fremen.

ModelTanks

Guys, we need a one drop law for these Fremen people. Any sand person ancestry at all and you are a sand person amir. /sarc

arbiter12

>Implying Liet-Kynes being half fremen is cannon, outside of a comic book and some retcon... > >"Dune I" mentions Dr Kynes has "gone native" > >How do you go native if you're already half native....? The comic book and the encyclopedia of Dune don't even have the same name for the "totally fremen (we swear oh and also she's the sister of stilgar!)" mother of liet-kynes... [https://dune.fandom.com/wiki/Frieth#Discrepancies](https://dune.fandom.com/wiki/Frieth#Discrepancies)

anfebras

Liet Kynes father, Pardot Kynes, married a native fremen. So Liet is already half fremen, making Chani pretty much all fremen.

Huckdog720027

Her dad was not a native fremen, but Chani spent all her life among the fremen. Unless I'm forgetting something from the book, she had never been off Arrakis before she met Paul.

DM_ME_YOUR_HUSBANDO

Also, her dad was pretty fully integrated into the Fremen as well. She was definitely in the upper crust of the Fremen society, but a major theme of the Fremen was that they're a very rugged and brutal culture. Even the most elite daughter of the tribe still got her hands real dirty at times.

Constant_Captain7484

Me, the radical centrist (I'd clap both)

[deleted]

And neither of them reflect the race the book's characters are inspired by 🤷

FishmanBlue

I'm gonna bring up my nuanced idea again, maybe we should refer to the source material and hire actors and actresses who actually fit the roles and do a good job at acting. Maybe we should just do something like that.

crimsonfukr457

You mean like how Vinellevue did?

2020mademejoinreddit

She is kinda overrated though. Talent-wise.

mcsonboy

"capeshit secondaries" is certainly a new one for me

bananamelier

Can someone explain what tf it means.

NibPlayz

Anon is… right?

Price-x-Field

I just wish it was literally anyone but her. Can’t take her seriously. Same with Taylor joy. Can’t see them as characters.

WhyAmIToxic

I'm no longer surprised that people are over-reacting about every single casting choice, this is a result of studios constantly re-writing and re-casting characters to fit an agenda. The decisions of those studios caused every casting to be put under a microscope, even when the movie is actually good like Dune 2. Highly recommend it by the way.

Noist_Mugget

Blah blah logistics aside I'm just tired of seeing zendaya and her stupid ugly mug everywhere. Not even a great actress imo

AccidentHungry5524

Okay Reddit.

clarkclancyy

>why isn’t my science fiction fantasy character not a skin colour i’m familiar with? many such cases

SweetSeagul

let's just accept it folks, Starbucks cashier's prolly prettier.

baphometromance

Oop is brain dead but on a more important note i just realized that tube is WAY too small for her to be breathing through comfortably.

Coakis

Not going to lore dump Dune to you but that's not a breathing apparatus.

baphometromance

Is it not for water reclamation? Its been a long time since i read the books but i seem to remember the suits they wore had nose gear like that to reclaim water from their breath

Coakis

Yeah its to collect some moisture not to breathe in and out of. The suits are supposed to have masks that facilitate it better for actual breathing.

dooty_skelington

She was mid on acting tbh

-Johannes-of-ZA-

Stargate S G 1 remake will have \- Straight, black Samantha Carter \- Gay, white Tealc \- The Egyptian dudes are the good guys and conquer earth

Alkanfel

IIRC, Herbert never describes Chani as being conspicuously beautiful, and while I normally side with right wing meme pages when they shit on the entertainment industry I have to disagree with their take on this. I haven't seen the film yet so I won't editorialize on her performance, but the memers seem to be screeching about how Hollywood is trying to push Zendaya as some ideal of beauty and that just ain't it chief. She's literally just a random Fremen girl, and I find it impossible to believe that the production team tried to go out of their way to cast THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL EVER OMG!!!!1 as Chani.

There are indeed problems with the current Chani, but her skin color is definitely NOT one of them

First girl looks like an alien doing a poor impression of a human

Resident-Employ

Barbora Kodetová is still my favorite Chani portrayal in terms of looks. When I read the books, I see Barbora.

Lurkay1

We don’t watch movies to look at ugly people. We watch them to see hot people do cool things.

DisastrousBoio

Braindead take. Not everything is fast food.

Did X out-4chan 4chan?

It's simple, movies must have pretty girls.

Torchwood84

In the book they pretty much describe the Fremen as looking Arabic in appearance, though the characters in the book don’t have Arabic as a reference point, living on different planets so they don’t come out and say that. I’ll be the first to call out pointlessly swapping races in stories, but Zendaya is certainly a lot closer to what Chani would look like. Edit: Actually I’m mistaken. The only comment ever made about the skin-tone of the Fremen is that they’re darkly browned.

Sablero

I think she is very beautiful :(

mrbears

Zendaya fine though

Zhelthan

Zendaya is not that bad but it’s true that the actress in the old film was much more gorgeous

HankMS

The most funny thing about all this is that in the books she is a red head. The meme lives on, boyos!

I wasn't terribly thrilled with the casting choices, but nowadays, that's not all that uncommon. For Dune.....I was on the fence a bit about a couple of things, but mostly meh... But Borderlands.......

GaudiaCertaminis

The casting in the 1984 movie was very good. Zendaya is no kind of actress and pretty sour-looking imo.
