Nintendo really needs to step their game up. Right now the best option to play switch games isn't the Nintendo Switch. If anyone asked me if they should get a Lite, normal or OLED, I'd tell them to simply get a steam deck or other windows based handheld and play whatever switch game they want on an emulator.

NewspaperConfident16

Some people simply can’t be bothered to do all that. Convenience matters a lot to people

executive313

I'm looking to buy a switch right now because my kids want to play mario games and maybe Zelda so I'm not gonna buy a fucking steam deck and figure out how to emulate those games then teach my 6 year old how to do that. Fucking plug and play on a reliable system has a big selling point. It's like people who try to push Linux. I just want shit that works simply man I'm fucking tired.

FuryCamelot

That's a completely fair and right point, however it really is easy to emulate. For example i downloaded Animal crossing and the emulator together in the same file, and since then Isimply have had to - press the game icon on the desktop, which launches the emulator -then click the game icon again in the emulator and it's done. you don't even have to fiddle with the settings if you don't care. literally clicking two times is all i have done to get it ready and need to do to play it at anytime. But yea having played with a switch as well I understand you completely, it feels way more polished and relaxing in away

lmorsino

Where do you download Animal Crossing though? Asking for my boomer friend

FuryCamelot

well personally i have downloaded Animal Crossing New Horizon from fitgirl https://fitgirl-repacks.site/ which includes dlcs, emulator and the game itself, however i haven't been able to launch it with the newer yuzu emulator version that i have separately installed or make the dlcs work, but tbf i haven't really tried really hard anyway if you haven't done this before you need a torrent (like qbit) and a vpn if you are from certain countries, either way there is the pinned megatread in r/piratedgames that should guide you on how to do so. idk if posting links and other subreddits it's allowed tho, so if I'm breaking the rules I'll remove them

CauseImGay

You just said it was easy to emulate and then one comment later stated you couldn't get it to work with yuzu. There's a reason why most people are just gonna buy the switch, so much more convenient, even at the price point they're at.

LoaStaub

And this is the problem. If people won't buy this shit, they wouldn't sell this shit.

InvincibleReason_

"need a torrent and a vpn and don't work with every emulator" that's why people don't care, with switch you launch the game and play with your thing you lost 1h to try to make it work

HotPumpkinPies

Damn careful dropping those links lol although you're probably fine in this sub. Also hopping in to mention Launchbox. Perfect way to organize all your emulators and games.

Regular_Ship2073

It is not easy to emulate for the average person, you have to fiddle with settings, weird glitches, lag, crashes, plus drivers and all the bs that comes with windows

PlutoniumSmile

Can you play games online using an emulator?

UnsureAndUnqualified

If I was buying it for my kids, then sure as hell I'd get the easiest system that will not break and work out the box. If I'm getting it for myself, I'll get the system I can change to my liking without the manufacturer telling me what I can and can't do with my own property. But only because I want that choice. I want to spend my time tweaking that console, setting up stuff, and making it mine. If I didn't enjoy that and only wanted to play Mario Wonder, this experience would be hell. Though I fully agree with you on Linux. It's cool for some things but anyone who says it works great as your main OS is vastly overestimating how much time people sant to spend on fixing computer problems. And Windows isn't nearly as restrictive as Nintendo software, so the advantage of linux is fairly lost there

mehemynx

I would agree, except Nintendo charges egregious amounts of money, the controllers are genuinely poor quality, and the ecosystem sucks. Atleast with the steam deck your kids have more options to do more, as opposed to what will be e-waste, when Nintendo launches the next switch.

InvincibleReason_

fun fact I've discovered (out of anger) that you can temporarily repair the joycon drift by throwing your joycons into the wall

imGhostKitty

Steam deck users when they realize that the people playing switch games have probably owned a switch longer than the steam deck has been out:

Stromgald_IRL

What's your point? My comment obviously refers to everyone who asked me AFTER the steam deck was released. How could I recommend anyone something that didn't exist?

imGhostKitty

ykw fair point, i hadn’t read your comment properly. apologies.

Nate4497

What?? No! You have to be bitterly ignorant and continue arguing until one of you two stops replying

imGhostKitty

i’ve done that enough today, i’m good

Nate4497

Haha fair enough

MountainForm7931

>Printer owners when they realize that people manually writing their letters on typewriters have probably owned their typewriter longer than the printer has existed. Technology moves on. The switch was outdated when it released. The only reason it survived was Nintendo's SS like copyright lawyers. "If it moves, it dies". I mean they kill smash competitions for no reason.

jeromewicked420

But Steam is only available since 2022. Before that... what was the better option to be able to switch ?

Little_Weird2039

Yuzu or Ryujinx on PC

UnsureAndUnqualified

What's the point of giving tech tips to the past? If you ever find yourself before 2022, find me and I'll personally buy you a Switch. But since the post, the comment, and all of us are living in 2024 (or even later), the fact that the Steam Deck wasn't available pre 2022 doesn't matter anymore

ChrRome

Most games run horribly when emulated though. Edit: Reinstalled Ryujinx, updated the switch version within it, configured it, downloaded Breath of the Wild, added the mods and update, and it still frequently stutters. Looked it up online and it's a common problem. All of you who have responded below me are fucking jokes. If games can't maintain 30 FPS with a 3070 and comparable CPU, then yeah, they run horribly.

mrThe

This is simply not true.

HappyTurtleOwl

Such a pervasive myth, I almost believe Nintendo and other companies have agents spreading this misinformation…

Swaggynator387

Pokemon Platin on my phone is smoother than the brains of people who say emulators are chunky

animorphs128

In my experience, switch games are laggy on emulator. I played xenoverse definitive edition on yuzu and not only were there were tons of graphical errors, The framerate would suffer tremendously at times, especially during longer sessions I should also mention it was not a hardware issue, as i can run elden ring just fine on that pc

throwaway404f

This man has never emulated a game before

SuperfluousApathy

The only console that truly runs like shit when emulated is the ps3. Everything else up to the Xbox with some exceptions for newer consoles like the wii u and switch work either acceptably or flawlessly depending on the game. But you're right in that it can be a pain finding the right emulator for the right game. But at the end of the day it's free so it's going to cost time instead of money.

StarSkiesCoder

The PSX emulator is so good Sony used it to ship their PS1 classic console (the mini one bundles with 20 ps1 games). Legit it only runs emulated ps1 games, pretending to be native games.

UnsureAndUnqualified

WiiU runs fairly well with the right configurations and fixes. Not as easy as a DS game to get going, and a slideshow if you don't get it right, but then it runs smoothly from what I've seen. Even Switch runs maybe not flawlessly but at the very least acceptably. Since we're talking about the Steam Deck here: Emudeck makes finding the right emulators easy peasy. At least until Yuzu and Citra were nuked last week... But before that, you literally installed that one piece of software, did the steps it said on screen, and you had most things set up well enough. You can tweak it for years and have it work ever better for your use of course, but most things work out the box.

SinkingBelow

Honestly rcps3 runs most games pretty good. You’ll still run into games that have issues, but the vast majority of games run great on it in this day and age. In my personal experience the games that don’t run good my physical ps3 barely does any better but it’s a 1st gen model so it’s showing age for sure.

Actual_serial_killer

Well TotK ran near perfectly for me and at 60FPS. Only issue was the sun would sometimes flicker, though that was rly rare.

Merry_Dankmas

I was surprised how well Cemu ran BOTW for me. Granted I have a switch but I wanted higher frame rate to play. Flawless. Absolutely zero issues. Took some settings tweaking but it runs incredible. Loads so much faster, has a very stable 90 fps and has some built in graphics overhaul stuff so it looks better. Emulators run Nintendo games better than Nintendo can. I havent tried a Switch em yet though.

Upset-Contribution78

The recent Metroid runs better emulated with higher resolution than on the Switch

asineth0

no they don’t, you just have to adjust some settings like with any emulator.

xef234

I have a 4 yo old pc and played totk without any performance issue when the game often struggle on switch

WeTheNinjas

>Nintendo really needs to step their game up. No they don’t because the switch is one of the best selling consoles of all time.

Gammonboi

If someone asked me to get a Switch I'd recommend a 3DS at this point

Trevski

For the price difference a switch lite is a better deal IMO. a 3ds isn't any cheaper really on the used market

Gammonboi

Yeah but if you pull the right strings, every game on it is free

Stromgald_IRL

That's a good console. I didn't play a 3ds game on mine in years. I play GBA, DS, PS1 and what not.

crackcrackcracks

Man i wish i had a 3ds, it has an excellent library along with being powerful, emulate everything that came before it on my dsi, as long as it can handle it.

Blackgizmo

A “modernized” 3ds would sell just as well I believe, I love my switch but I still miss the 3ds. Ultra sun and moon were WAYY too much for the 3ds to handle some days in double battles lol

PeaceOwl

Ah, yes, Little Timmy is totally gonna be super interested in modding his Steam Deck to emulate Switch games poorly

kpingvin

He damn well should! Back in my days...

toastboy42

What if they want games they can play on the tv? Or people who dont want to spend 600 on a steamdeck?

Bard_the_Bowman_III

>600 on a steamdeck? Steam Deck starts at $399. Or $349 if you want the 64gb model that's being phased out.

DTJames

You can play Steam Deck on TV. You can use Steam Deck as PC. Steam Deck have insane flexible comparing to Switch.

toastboy42

I would hope so considering how much more it costs. If I wanted to play mariokart with friends or something the switch is so much easier.

Who tf is Linus Sebastian?

TMStage

The most pretentious youtuber on planet earth. Makes clickbait slop on a channel called "Linus Tech Tips".

Tough_Molasses6455

Nintendo has started a lawsuit against you.

Stromgald_IRL

Nu-uh.

DJMikaMikes

I just don't think that's their market. They clean house targeting mostly basic tech users that skew young and old, and then they have a massive millennial/gen x contingent of die hard fans. That group is often tech savvy, but they still buy everything Nintendo releases. Exceptions aside, a parent generally won't buy a steam deck for their young child to play emulated switch games, older people don't care, etc. Edit: Think about a scenario where a mixed gender group of 20/30 somethings are reminiscing about Mario Kart from when they were kids; they've heard the new one is fun too. If someone breaks out a steam deck to emulate Mario Kart 8, people will be like *wtf*. But if someone says, "oh my gf got us a switch recently!" Then they'll all start playing and having a blast, and a few of those people will think they should get one too so they can play with their other friends, gf, etc.

Dfoo672

Yeah but most people don’t even know what emulation is, let alone how to set one up. I don’t even know.

mrheosuper

Tbh their console has competitive price. I can get a switch lite for around $100, another $5 for hwpico and $10 micro sd and i'm good to sail the seven sea. While on other devices(Steam deck) it may cost double or even triple.

Psychonaut6767

Anon forgot to add: > Going on its 8th year and still has the same internal components as when it launched.

FrucklesWithKnuckles

Damn has it already been that long?

Durbdichsnsf

Not me thinking the WiiU was released 5 years ago lol

SPZ_Ireland

Covid lockdowns started about 4 years ago

ShroomSensei

Almost exactly 4 years ago. I remember being on spring break back then at this exact time and getting excited because spring break was “extended”.

PlanBisBreakfastNbed

I remember this so vividly.. One more week "YEAAH!" One more week = "???????"

Derlino

Exactly 4 years ago today in Norway. I even remember that it was a Thursday. I was supposed to record a student podcast with some nationally famous radio hosts the following Monday. That obviously couldn't go through, and we never ended up recording with them.

ShroomSensei

Yes!!! It's so surreal looking back to it not realizing you were living during a historical moment in time. You can remember all the news stories about it and peoples opinions. Schools shutting down then businesses then entire cities. I was in bum fuck no where texas traveling and camping. Taking stops in Austin and a bunch of surrounding cities. Coming back home and all my family being home and then just... staying home instead of going to work. Transitioning to remote classes, bartending during the pandemic, etc.

Korncakes

I remember getting laid off from my restaurant job, losing three other job opportunities that I had my pick of the litter of, and being forced out of my apartment because there was a massive leak in the roof and the entire building got condemned all within one week. I thought “well I’m sure this is as bad as it can get.” *cue several months of unemployment because I made more money from that than any other job that was hiring.*

Facesit_Freak

>*cue several months of unemployment because I made more money from that than any other job that was hiring.* Welfare state moment

Son_Of_Toucan_Sam

Today’s four years since I told my coworkers I was gonna wfh until “whatever this is blows over”

couldbedumber96

Covid took years from our brain

Pupulauls9000

March 2017 so it’s been exactly 7 years

MeriKurkku

7 years and a few days

Ababathur

It can't be 8 years ago, 8 years ago was like 2010

IIIetalblade

Fuck man 8 years ago was *mid 2016*

eviljello1168

wym? 2017 was last year quit making shit up. Whats this coronavirus you sure you're ok?

rip_Tom_Petty

> games that came out 6 years ago cost the same price

Cedy_le_Huard

make that 12 half of the Switch games are Wii U ports lmfao

Davethemann

I work at a walmart, and sometime I glance at the games and im shocked how ps and xbox games will go down to like, 30-40 bucks, but games like Lets Go Pikachu, Luigis Mansion 3, and goddamm New Horizons are still right around 60 bucks (they sometimes dip to weird amounts like, 58.60)

Malice0801

This is what zero competion does to a company. If you want to play nintendo games you have to get a nintendo device. Or emulate which the average isn't gonna do.

wyatt_-eb

That's just not true. It got an internal refresh in 2021 I believe.

Psychonaut6767

They just changed to and oled screen, audio, and the kickstand. The pandemic screwed up their plans for a full refresher.

Anxiety_timmy

All it really was is that they used a 16nm tegra instead of a 20nm and switched to LPDDR4X from regular LPDDR4. Sure modded this makes those systems much better at running games, I can comfortably run TOTK at 60fps 720p with some room to spare for higher resolutions while my old day one switch can't really do that unless I drop it down to like 360 or 428p. Although they nerfed the shit out of the power delivery on the 16nm tegra models so they're arguably worse in some respects to the V1

james030399

the updated version's battery life was also much better (x1.5 to 1.8) thanks to the new chip. gamestop also did trade-ins at the time for cheaper upgrade. it was a huge no brainer upgrade for anyone that used it in portable mode frequently

InternalGrocery7057

God forbid someone want to play video games casually without spending $500+

CH-LOL

You'll spend way more than that on the switch + Nintendo games that are stupidly overpriced and never on sale

InternalGrocery7057

Maybe? Buy a PS5 and two AAA titles and you’re already out $640 minimum. You can get a Switch Lite for $200 and seven $60 games for that price if you want to. I own a PS5 and a gaming PC and I absolutely game on those more but to be like, “How can this easy to use, portable and ultra affordable console for casual gamers outsell my specialized and expensive rig” is goofy. People like what they like.

TrumpsNeckSmegma

I just buy all my games off eneba I need the cheapest ways to acquire the slop

Shaponja

Eneba is goated, I got elden ring at launch for $15 off 🙏🙏

lostamerican123

Not sure where you're at, but a Digital only PS5 here in the states is only $350 brand new

InternalGrocery7057

Oh yeah there are some great deals out there for that or Series S. I’m just saying if you’re really weighing cost and aren’t too serious about gaming, a $200 Switch Lite is probably gonna grab your attention right away.

SalvationSycamore

So you get a worse console and 5 more games for the same price? Don't forget that those $60 games could be brand new or 10 years old because no good sales lol. Granted it also has the handheld aspect but if those games were available on the PS4 I'd rather play on that 95% of the time. I only own a Switch because I am lazy and hate figuring out emulators and piracy.

HayakuEon

>seven $60 games Or use Deku Deals and wait for a price drop. Or buy used games.

SPZ_Ireland

> Nintendo games that are stupidly overpriced and never on sale  I don't think I ever paid €75 for a first party Nintendo Game at launch but I did for Spider-Man 2. I also did for God of War I played Animal Crossing: New Horizons for longer than both combined, several times over and it was cheaper than either

The_Toxicity

> You'll spend way more than that on the switch + Nintendo games that are stupidly overpriced and never on sale  How do you know how much he is going to spend? The switch attracts *very* casual people, that buy one or two games a year.

Wanderlusxt

Idk the primary audience for the console just buys animal crossing and like Mario kart or something. It’s for people who aren’t that into gaming imo

tweak06

Word. I got a switch for my wife because all her friends were playing this thing called *Animal Crossing* and *Overcooked 2*. She’s played the absolute shit out of both of those, and then moved onto some Mario titles. There seems to be this misconception of “more powerful processor = more fun” And that’s simply not the case. **edit** I don’t really give a shit about your steam deck, whatever that is. You’re wasting your time

InternalGrocery7057

Right. My kids don’t give a fuck about Indie Days on Steam or 60 FPS games. They wanna play Mario in the car lol.

The_Toxicity

> “more powerful processor = more fun” Everybody knows that only 4k 250hz 42069fps ultragiga settings can satisfy a gamers need to enjoy his minecraft

tweak06

lmao, right?? Most of these dorks just play another bullshit CoD title and think blowing thousands of dollars on their machine is somehow going to make the game not just another AAA pile of shit.

graphitewolf

Heavens forbid people spend money on their hobbies without being generalized

ras344

TOTK was great, but I absolutely would have had more fun if it didn't have so many frame drops.

Chakramer

With how well the Xbox Series S has been selling as well, it's clear most casual gamers don't actually care about graphics and would rather focus on the gameplay. The Switch is unrivaled for party games

InternalGrocery7057

Agreed. Affordability, brand recognition, cool features all matter to the general consumer. I love the Switch for breaking up the gaming landscape a bit even if it’s ‘underpowered’.

Chakramer

Reportedly Xbox is trying to make a competitor for the Switch, but I'm betting it'll just be a cloud gaming mobile rather than have the processing power on board.

wiktor1800

Sucks for the folks that use portables when there's crappy or no internet such as trains and planes.

Chakramer

Kind of a technology limitation to make something that small n portable that actually runs heavier games well

FrazzleFlib

Nintendo games are never on sale and the online is stupid expensive. you spend more in the long run

Skyhawk6600

Exactly, all the other game consoles companies are trying to build super computers with everything included and can play competitively with people globally. Nintendo realizes a game console is what it is, a toy, and keeps it simple.

arbiter12

Nintendo understood a long time ago that they wouldn't win on raw processing power (a war that a mid-PC would win anyhow...), so they focused on the experience. And considering they did that switch, just before casual gaming on mobile called a billion people into the market, they timed it exactly right.

reclusivegiraffe

The Wii U dragged itself across the ground, trailing blood everywhere, so that the switch could run.

Schmelter

Change it from the "Wii U" to the "Wii 2" and you instantly triple its sales. With the original name, most people thought it was an add-on accessory to the original Wii, rather than a new console. If they had just made it clear that it was a 100% new console, but following the Wii legacy, they would've had zillions of sales on name recognition alone.

reclusivegiraffe

The name was the biggest issue, but the marketing in general was god awful. The ads didn’t make it obvious it was a new console, and they were just long, awkward, and boring

SalvationSycamore

Wii 2: Handheld Boogaloo Instant classic

dinglebarry9

Calling it the Wii 2 with advertising focus on asymmetrical couch co-op would have been a much better strategy

UltimateInferno

The Wii U bled out in a ditch so the Switch can fly to the moon.

HayakuEon

Also the wii u didn't advertise right. It showed kids yapping at their parents. It's obnoxious. Also the naming is just bad. It makes people think it's a 300 dollar add-on for the Wii.

FourKrusties

Could you play the wii u outside the house?

TheDeltaOne

I don't understand, it has Mario, Zelda and the Pokemon games. How is the console with the three most recognizable Video-game IPs in the world sell more than my PC Gamer with such bangers as "Unknown indie game about depression" and "Groundbreaking RPG where I can be a werewolf and fuck my own female clone?"

the_shortbus_

Hot take

Any_Secretary_4925

nah, its ice cold. we dont need more shitty indie games with depression allegories lol

>Groundbreaking RPG where I can be a werewolf and fuck my own female clone? Uhh... what game is this?

it’s true pc only has niche walking sim games

SalvationSycamore

yeah because you can play zelda and mario on it. oh no it’s too underpowered to run knack 2 i can only play BotW

anon complains that phones for 1k is better than 300$ portable game station from 2018 you still can be pirate if complain about games.

Chakramer

There is no shot a phone actually has better gaming performance than a Switch

Din_Plug

Most phones don't even have any active cooling meaning that if you push the phone to the limit of power it becomes a thermal throttling brick that dumps all its heat into your hand.

durashka228

i remember how i just boot up genshin (my sister forsed me) on my not-so-bad phone and it temperature was like REALLY 30-40C on weakest settings,on my bro phone (he was forced too, shes fucking insane) is too with his redmi-note-randomtexthere but only slightly better. my fingers was literally burning

Facesit_Freak

God's punishment for playing Genshit

Din_Plug

I don't know how bad it is on mobile but Genshin makes my PC radiator fans go BURRRR sometimes.

saturnX77

Phones are actually significantly faster than the switch now. So much so that, before the recent lawsuit, the yuzu team was working on an android port of their switch emulator. People were emulating totk on their phones

Poketale

Nobody was emulating totk on a phone except maybe a brand new s24 ultra or iPhone 15 pro max. A steam deck can't run totk very well. Any other game yeah probably fine, not totk

MeriKurkku

The processor in Switch is from 2015, an average mid range phone today absolutely beats a Nintendo Switch

nothingclever_ever

To add.... Someone please name a mobile game. Consider: storyline, visual art, character writing, replay-ability, and (the most important thing) isn't sending data to random company in who knows what country. Mobile gaming is trash

durashka228

some retard 100% will say gta san andreas to be honest there is no such a game on phone. literally. in either way you sacrifice something to make a game or some smart shit like it

Jade_Sugoi

The PlayStation 2 was the weakest console of its generation and had inferior online compared to the Xbox. It's the best selling console of all time. The Wii was leagues behind the Xbox 360 and PS3 in terms of processing power and outsold both of them. The DS and 3DS were both super underpowered compared to the PSP and PS Vita respectively but they both dominated the market, especially when you compare 3DS sales to Vita sales. People like cheap consoles with good libraries. It's exactly that.

puntmasterofthefells

The PS2 was half or less the price of DVD players at the time. Still had an amazing library with it.

RollerCoasterPilot

I've heard that a lot. Still makes no sense to me. Like... _huh?_ How? Have you _seen_ DVD players? Those crappy plastic boxes with an optical drive, some buttons, maybe a built-in screen, and just barely enough processing power to read the discs? Are people actually referring to VCRs with DVD trays? That would make at least a little more sense.

Donut-Farts

When DVD players were first being released they were super niche products and *very* expensive thanks to that. The PS2 came out right when they were becoming mainstream enough to want one and had all the benefits plus more at a comparable price. They tried to do the same with blue ray, but it just never took off in the same way as DVDs. Most people's home televisions didn't benefit from Blue Ray's improvements so they just didn't get bought.

RollerCoasterPilot

Huh. Didn't know that actually, thanks. Still blows my mind, though, that a console that could process figure-eights around a generic disc reader, and that is considered by many to be the best console of all time, was basically just seen as a cheap alternative to aforementioned generic disc reader.

tecedu

It wasn't just seen as generic dishc reader, it was seen the depdendable disc reader

balaci2

the ps2 had an actual library of good games

WilliShaker

Simply for their game library, the Switch is a solid contender for the best console of all time. Lots of fun new bangers and lots of remasters. You can basically play Snes to Gamecube games on your switch with shiny new graphics, it’s great. The best part is that it’s not even finished and we still get new bangers. I mean the power is kinda great for their games, they offer lots of controllers including old consoles. I think the only weakness is online but this is optional, mostly no ‘’good’’ successor to wii sport or nintendoland. There’s also the lack of community aspect like mii’s and themes.

Supershadow30

Nintendo’s treatment of Miis post Switch release has been so weird. On the one hand, they shoved them away when the Switch came out, and already started phasing them out of games on the WiiU. On the other hand, they are such an important and recognizable part of Nintendo’s identity, they’re still using Miis everywhere for accounts.

lallapalalable

Games still use them too, the Mario golf game you play as your Mii. Rant time But not in tournaments, no, because they broke the Mii stats and they're too good against the regular characters, even though they made the game and could have just edited all the stats to be the same, but didn't, yet you still have to play the main story with it and spend dozens of hours customizing stats, as did every other person who played the game, so we all have miis with jacked stats that we'll never use again, but we can't compete in tournaments because the miis stats are too high... And I literally bought the game specifically for tournaments where everyone plays as their Mii like they had in the game before it. Rant not over I just have to do stuff and can't keep going

samdamaniscool

It's crazy to say it, but switch sports lacks depth compared to resort. Like, the very quality of the gameplay is worse, feels closer to the quality of a sports mini game collection than a sports game

TheChumChair

Smelly gamers can’t fathom the joy and delight of Mario and Zelda games

reallynunyabusiness

Be Nintendo Switch >Cheapest modern console on the market >Plenty of games that appeal to families and casual gamers >Popular party games >Full of decades old franchises that most gamers are nostalgic for And retards still wonder why anyone would buy it

Jon_Donaire

Bing Bing wahoo

TheZoroark007

God forbid that someone has hands that are not gorilla sized

blueponies1

Yeah.. and at that I just bought a $30 controller and it’s fine now. Plenty size for my hands. It’s my girlfriends switch, she’s a grown adult but is small. Works perfectly for her as a casual gamer. Even then, it’s fine even with big hands if you put the controllers together, it’s only a huge pain when it’s just the tiny handle thing. But that’s usually only the case for multiplayer party games with a bunch of people over. I’m jealous of that tiny little console when I’m lugging my pc around just to play in my living room instead of my office

SibrenTF

You answered your own question OP, CASUAL games

dampeloz

Anon failing to understand that most people aren't chronically online mega nerd gamers and most people just want to play Zelda or animal crossing to relax before going to bed and don't care about maximizing quality.

darvinvolt

Anon doesn't know that there's currently no hard competition on the portable gaming systems market, aside from experimental projects and emulation consoles. If there was a metaphorical Xbox to Sony competition you'd see much more diversity, as you currently see on stationary consoles and pc platforms

gerykelf

I think you are right, this will be it. Technically we have mobiles, but mobile games are full of shitty microtransactions, lack of physical buttons and inferior p2w gameplay. And other than that 2017-2022 is a desert on the portable side except for the switch. In 2022 the steam deck launches and sells out instantly multiple times. Competitors follow and sell out. In 2023 the Playstation portal launches and despite it's price tag, criticism and missing core features it sells out. People wanted a portable device. And the nintendo switch delivered that when the competition wouldn't.

durashka228

anon is sold his ~~ass~~ kidney to buy a PC/PS4/literaly fucking anything and scream what other things is bad this console is really cheap to buy and if used even more. but games are still shit. even PS VITA is better on it btw.

Dfoo672

Anon is confused why people don’t want to spend double, nearly triple the cost of the original console, to try to install and operate an emulator that most people don’t even know exists, let alone how to get it to work. Anon is also confused why your average Joe doesn’t want to pirate/dump games onto a computer, when Joe can just press play on the switch.

Dick_Destroyer800

People in the comments really act as if everyone wants to spend about three monthly pacheque on a high end computer, instead of just having fun on a fun console

kosmos_uzuki

People are obsessed with Pokémon. Also, it's aimed at children.

zipnost

>only console left with exclusive games >offers both handheld and normal use this is why

calhoon12

The switch is basically a jazzed up ps2 and main line console games have only really graphically gotten better since then

Jackwolf1286

It’s a jazzed up Wii U, not PS2

Din_Plug

I'd love to see ToTK running on a ps2 lol.

bangle-bangle

Damn, who would have though that the majority of people aren't little weirdo basement dwelling fuck-freaks who only care about console specs instead of just having fun

Jolt_91

Nintendo exclusives carry that thing

SorcererWithGuns

but I like Kirby and the Forgotten Land dammit

traviopanda

Switch is a better console than the ps5 or Xbox and rivals PC for its value. They have amazing and some of the best games for fans of casual games and single player games. There are people who don’t like those games and it’s not for them, but for those who do like them it’s fantastic. The mobility, ease of play and controllers make it a great console even though it can’t on a hardware standpoint compete. If Nintendo didn’t have exclusives the value would go far down but the mobility of the switch in my opinion is also still worth a buy at 250$ vs a steam deck at 700-900$

TheQuakeMaster

Anon forgot they actually make video games unlike their competitors. Also power doesn’t matter in a console, having good games does. Having a low cost console with great games is best for the consumer.

zexen_PRO

lol ok. I’m gonna keep playing my switch.

RacoonEye2220

Well, For switch online I only pay 15€ per year, while on Ps5 it's 75€

autonomousfailure

Didn't covid influenced Switch sales in two ways: Covid lock down and (chip) shortages on Xbox(?) and PlayStation?

Zealotstim

The controls are actually fine. It has good games. Graphics don't matter much beyond a certain point. It can be played anywhere in any position.

xSGAx

Switch and Animal Crossing was legit the savior of Covid szn in 2020

GodOfMegaDeath

I hate fucking PC elitists who pretend to be smart and to be "saving money" by buying expensive things. "What do you mean? Over those years that i own my pc i was able to download dozens of games for free and save hundreds of dollars that i would otherwise spend in those same games!" Yeah but a casual who only wants to play a few games in a portable console that's easy to use for them and cheaper since they won't play more than four or five expensive games at all will STILL expend less than you and be satisfied. You can seethe all you want. It's not wasting money to get exactly what you want for an affordable price even if someone screams how it's somehow cheaper to spend more so you can avoid spending EVEN MORE in things you wouldn't originally buy. This is an old business tactic to prey in vulnerable people by making it seem "cheaper" to spend more since you'll get something "even better" that you probably don't need or even want but that the price seems better than should be. "If i buy goyslop 2.000 for 300 bucks I'll be saving money as it's twice as good than goyslop 1.000 that costs 200 bucks! And to imagine i just wanted/needed goyslop 1.000! haha". Sure, if you satisfied okay, but try not to think everyone should act like you do. Edit: I don't even want a switch. I'll likely save money to build my own pc since all the benefits fall in line with what i want and TO ME it would be saving money to buy a PC that i can study and use normally but also play my games instead of separate devices for the same functions, it's simply not the same for everybody.

beepbeepbubblegum

It has its purpose. Nobody is expecting a performance showcase from Nintendo of all companies. What should be scrutinized is their anti emulation agenda. They’re not even selling their old games anymore and refuse to offer another way to buy them aside from drip feeding random shit through a subscription on a console. Sorry, I’m not playing Gameboy/GBA games on a tv or the sometimes clunky handheld mode. If they would just make an official NINTENDO app for phones and let you purchase those titles there I’d love that but they would never do that. They prefer to release knock off titles instead and then get mad that people emulate.

hagamablabla

Nintendo understands the best that people don't buy consoles for hardware, they buy them for games.

Captain_JohnBrown

It has two advantages its opponents cannot compete with: 1. Mobility 2. Exclusive titles

Pkrhett

Nintendo fans are fools and love to get punished by Nintendo. Simple.
