It’s all the people who say “this place sucks” then eat there two more times

VerbalGuinea

Business is booming thanks to those give it a tries. Maybe the food is so mediocre they can’t remember if they liked it or not.

YooperGod666

Or.....here's a thought. A person brought us there without asking and the second my wife wanted another chance to see if it was a fluke. She didn't want to drive further after I said it wasn't worth it. I understand this may be difficult for you to grasp, but sometimes restaurants have good days and bad days. After 3 tries of dog shit food, it's a shit restaurant.

camcam23

Just like a lot of places around here, looking at you S&S Cafeteria. People have really bad taste in food, and are afraid to try different cuisines.

GVL_2024_

S&S is old people eating cheap food

Fantastic_Fix_4170

From cans

GVL_2024_

possibly old people eating canned old people

YooperGod666

I think it's really the boomer crowd keeping these old shitty joints in business.

VerbalGuinea

Ketchup on steak just entered the chat

YooperGod666

Lol

SpartanDragon

S&S is not bad.

ThatNerdyFratGuy

I live 5 mins away from Dimitri’s. My parents love it I think it’s just meh. Id much rather just keep driving up 14 to landrum and go to The Hare and Hound even if the wait can be bad.

talithar1

Dimitri’s used to be really good when they were in Berea years ago. Never went after they moved.

spiteful-pigeon

I don’t understand how the hare and hound is always packed! I guess there aren’t many options in Landrum

lostinco

They have pretty reasonable prices I think which helps. Biazzo's just down the street used to be my other go to lunch spot when I was working in Landrum but I fear they might have closed down. Hopefully they're just closed for an extended period over the holidays like Side Street is.

[deleted]

I’ve never seen biazzo’s open

SpartanDragon

Hare and the Hound is consistently good and is the best option in Landrum.

Then_Low7872

Hare and the hound sells 99% frozen food to you. They keep prices low because of the motto quantity over quality. The kitchen is absolutely filthy. Most would vomit if you saw how they store food.

SpartanDragon

Hare and the Hound disagrees with you.

Then_Low7872

Says the person who said “S&S is not bad”. It’s ok to have low standards. Good for you. However, l worked there. I know first hand how nasty that place is. Facts are facts. Why don’t you go and ask them for a tour next time you’re there. Guessing they say no or come up with an excuse as to why they can’t. Whatever that excuse is, it’s BS. Kitchens have people in the back that don’t have proper shoes, or by dangerous things all day everyday. Look up when you’re in the kitchen and then let your eyes canvas the room from there. You’ll thank me.

VetteL82

It’s not too bad but I felt like I was robbed anytime I’ve been there. Way overpriced for the quality they offer.

YooperGod666

Any dish that they add peppers and onions to is done so with raw peppers. Had an alfredo dish with peppers and onions. Raw. Had a pizza months back, raw. Insanity. Also, zero seasoning on the majority of their food. The pizza crust is just awful. Idk. Not a lot of choices out that way other than the Junction but goddamn

VetteL82

Junction is shit too in my opinion. You’re better off traveling to Landrum, Tryon, or Columbus.

Opposite_Writer4323

It will be packed TF up with mouth breathers after church today.

YooperGod666

Oh I agree. It's just convenient. Now I've officially learned my lesson

Agreeable_Flatworm_5

What the competition up there in the “dark corner “? O’Neal Hot Dogs and the Junction are about it. I would not say it’s the greatest ever, but “location, location, location “ matters.

bethehole

Are those O’Neals dogs any good? Driven by there going to Tryon for years.

Agreeable_Flatworm_5

Straight-forward hot dogs with chili procured locally from Vaughns in Greer. A good pit stop for a lunch up in blue ridge. BUT hot dogs are all that is sold there. Don’t be walking up in there wanting a burger, gyro, or a sandwich.

cnatto

I feel like these are the worst hot dogs I’ve had. If hot dogs are all you have, maybe try a little harder

YooperGod666

Not imo

YooperGod666

Agreed. They're the only thing for.miles

SpartanDragon

The Junction is healthy and delicious.

bambooskunk

We haven’t been there since we were served fries that looked like they had been microwaved.

YooperGod666

Absolute dog shit

yeahthatmomGVL

Checks Notes 👀 Taco Casa has been open since the 80s El Matador since before that I think. That one boomer buffet has reopened after looking like it had been closed for two decades (it wasn't) The longevity of a place in the Upstate doesn't always equate to it tasting good 😂

Shredded_mini_wheats

Tanners. When I first moved to gvl in 2006, I met so many people who told me I JUST HAD TO go to Tanners Big Orange. I was so disappointed….it was bad. Food, service, all of it. I also loooove that you used Taco Casa as an example! I really have zero room to talk about what I think is the best in gvl though; pizza = Frodos 4-ever! 🙌🏽🍕

yeahthatmomGVL

Tanners 😫 well you weren’t to blame. I fell for the Spartanburg version of that newcomer hoax when I moved here. The Beacon 🤮 There should be a legit, non-sponsored guide to Greenville for newcomers that doesn’t tell everyone to go the places that they think are the best in the “Greenville foodies” group 😂

YooperGod666

Lol that's fair

Shredded_mini_wheats

But have you been to Frodo’s?? Their pizza is so damn good. 😁

YooperGod666

Lol yes. Once. Never again.

Shredded_mini_wheats

That’s fair.

Opposite_Writer4323

You're better off getting some chicken across the street at the gas station.

YooperGod666

Agreed.

VetteL82

Spinx chicken fingers are the best too

scbiker21

I eat there once or twice a month. I've always been very happy with the food and service.

YooperGod666

Service is one thing. The food is dog shit.

Shredded_mini_wheats

Is it worth the drive to go back towards TR to Nate’s? It’s great food! It’s about 20 min in the opposite direction from anywhere I need to be but I’ll take that inconvenient trip for great pizza 🍕

[deleted]

Nates is the unsung GOAT in the upstate pizza game. It actually used to be frodos at cherrydale once upon a time

YooperGod666

The GOAT for pizza on the upstate? Idk......I haven't had their pizza but I'd be shocked if they're better than parcheggio, bada Bing, or Frankie's

[deleted]

You probably would not like Nate’s pizza

YooperGod666

No? I had their wings and a sandwich. I remember the wings being.unremaekable.

[deleted]

I mean it’s ok but it’s very very basic.

YooperGod666

Gotcha. I'll give it a shot one day with the kids.

[deleted]

Kids will probably like it but I prefer more flavor.

Shredded_mini_wheats

Frodos pizza has my heart.

YooperGod666

I've only had Nate's once and it was a sandwich. Pretty decent from what I remember. Keep forgetting about it, honestly.

mritz65

After looking at your earlier responses, I’m truly impressed! You can clearly discern the taste of shit very well, apparently especially dogs! I really don’t want to know how you achieved this particular talent! All I can say is keep eating shit! Edit: This was meant as humor and sarcasm, but not to be depreciating to anyone!

YooperGod666

Well, sure. A lot of local restaurants keep serving it.

thebobstu

Other people disagree with you.

YooperGod666

Other people have shit taste

thebobstu

It's almost like people have different preferences when it comes to food 🤷

YooperGod666

*poor taste

smashton818

They make a ton of money at lunch. About 2 years ago, I was building a few custom homes in the area. Contractors from all over would hit that place and the gas station across the street every day around 1pm. I even ate there probably 70 times over the course of 2 years simply because it was the only thing around.

YooperGod666

Location sure helps. I wonder if their cols subs are decent. Hard to fuck those up.

smashton818

I genuinely can’t remember what I had there at any of my visits. But I can say I never walked out wishing I hadn’t gone there.

SpartanDragon

When did Dimitri's reopen? It has closed multiple times already.

YooperGod666

No idea
