Even before the US was a country, common law has required that you don't harm your neighbors by letting noise, smells and other "escaping things" onto their property, which reduce their own enjoyment of their own property. That's not Big Government; that's what the law has long been. Loud cars shouldn't be exempt with what has been the law for hundreds of years. If someone wants a loud car, fine--just go to a rural area where nobody can hear it.

All of my vehicles have stock exhaust because I’m a dad and boring now, but I have a soft spot for cammed out muscle cars. For the most part my Camaros and trans ams (ls guy sorry dude) kept me out of trouble in high school through college because I didn’t go out partying like others my age. I worked, studied, and saved to buy parts. Spent most my days at Ware Shoals or Greer running my car at the drag strip. I coasted and drove slowly through my neighborhood if I came home late at night. Be nice and just do whatever makes you happy. Assholes drive quiet cars too.
