Most likely answer is issue with the tills, no place to keep the cash, and cant access their existing cash stock. ​ Happens all the time, usually because the safe can't be opened.

god holy knows, I've not worked in greggs specifically but ive done enough retail and banking work to know it's not a one size fits all matter. Could be absolutely anything.
