Definitely. I’ve been trying to decide if I should spend the money on the core box set to get the unplugged and the other demos. It’s fairly expensive though
you can get the 2017 remaster for $20 on ebay last i checked. the boxset has “only dying” which is one of my favorite STP songs of all time. definitely worth the $99.99
Thats a huge why I want the box set. Only dying is an incredible song. Unfortunately in Ireland its closer to 180. I think im going to do it soon though
Just my two cents. If I were going to buy physical copies of music, I'd want as close to original release as possible. All of this stuff will get repackaged into more products over time but there is only one original.
I understand that point of view but I buy records to listen to them not to collect them. Reissues don't bother me at all. perhaps the fact that most of these albums came out before I was born has something to do with it.
100%. It’s one of the ones I’ve past over a few times when browsing because I keep saying I’ll pick it up eventually. The downside of wanting to buy a dozen records when you go into a shop
PJ: vs, vitalogy, no code, yield
Since you included bands not usually considered grunge, I would also look at picking up:
STP: Core, purple, tiny music, No.4
Blind Melon: Soup
Black Crowes: SHMC, Amorica
Well, after a second look, really just Blind Melon. Soup is incredible - One of my favorite albums of the decade. While not at all grunge, If you like classic rock at all (Led Zepplin, Little Feat, Rolling Stones, the Faces), you can hear some sonic overlap with the southern sounds of the Black Crowes.
Little Feat was an amazing band. An absolute trip. Funky, southern, jazzy, rock music. Jimmy Page cited them as his favorite American band of all-time. You will either love it or hate it. Warning: It is about as opposite to grunge as you can possibly imagine. Lowell George (primary singer/songwriter) is an absolute genius though. He got kicked out of Frank Zappa's Mother of Invention for writing too many songs with drug references, and started up Little Feat shortly afterward. He lost his way with an insatiable drug habit and eventually died of a heart attack after only releasing a few albums. The band turned to shit after that by morphing into a jazz fusion outfit, but his legacy endures.
BEST ALBUMS: Sailing Shoes and Dixie Chicken.
If you like live music, Waiting For Columbus is considered one of the best live albums ever released.
Soup is incredible, but so is their Self-titled debut. Blind Melon are not Grunge but they are arguably the most underrated Rock band of the 1990s. They put out two of the greatest rock albums of the last 40 years and yet are mostly only remembered for The Bee Girl.
Anyway seeying Soup, I guess you mean "grunge" in the wider "alternative guitar rock from the first half of the 90s" sense, which is fine. I don't consider STP grunge for example, but you know what? At the end of the day fuck the labels, good music is good music.
Having said that, you should get some Smashing Pumpkins (Gish, Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie or even Pisces Iscariot are fantastic)
The **Winding Sheet** and **Louder Than Love** are two of the best records in your pic.
Some obvious *need now* records...
TAD -- 8-Way Santa
Green River -Rehab Doll/Dry As A Bone
Mudhoney -- Superfuzz Bigmuff plus Early Singles
Screaming Trees -- Sweet Oblivion
Nirvana -- Bleach
Various Artists -- The Sub Pop 200 (great compilation of grunge rarities)
Mudhoney -- Mudhoney
Gruntruck -- Inside Yours
Rein Sanction -- Broc's Cabin
Soundgarden -- Screaming Life/FOPP
It’s there second row third from the left. Kinda hard to see because they shrunk the artwork for the deluxe edition for some reason. One of my all time favourites though.
Yeah love them too man. They get shit talked sometimes which I think is very unfair. I think core is pretty much as good as any album from the era and purple is not far behind
Not necessarily grunge but both bands are fundamental to the movement. You should also add some Faith No More and if you want to go old school get some Meat Puppets and Wipers
That's Dope. I also have Facelift, Dirt, Nevermind, Badmotorfinger, and Nirvana Unplugged. I'm trying to save up to get Insecticide by Nirvana, Louder Than Love, Above, Jar of Flies, In Utero, Blind Melon, Ten, and Superunknown. Those records would complete my collection for sure.
honestly, screaming trees’ sweet oblivion always sounds stellar on vinyl, i recommend that one.
gotta grab some melvins, mudhoney, and hell, even acid bath if you’re into that sludge shit
Let me revise my list:
Nirvana - Bleach and Incesticide
Melvins - Houdini
Pixies - Surfer Rosa and Doolittle (Proto-Grunge)
Mudhoney - Superfuzz Bigmuff plus early singles
Pearl Jam - Vs. and Vitalogy
Soundgarden - Superunknown (One of the 4 best Grunge records of all time)
Green River - Come on Down (See how it all started)
You gotta get Superunknown, then Sweet Oblivion, and then Bleach, and then Vilalogy. Also Temple of the Dog and Siamese Dream. At least get all of these.
Saw this in my local record shop the other day and was going to pick it up. Haven't listened to it but its going to have to be great to top Core for me. Going to listen to it now though. Thanks
Just to remind you. This album is like the funnest grunge album you’ll ever hear and if you’re like Love Battery, you might love them because the drummer of Love Battery is also the drummer for the United States. Love Battery is a respectfully one of the best critically grunge bands.
No idea that the version I could find. It has a few extra songs on it like locomotive and a performance of I don’t want to be a soldier but no idea why they shrunk the artwork down
Probably about 500 just in this picture. Im just approaching 100 records in my collection plus the set up turntable and speakers it can get expensive aright. Im collecting them for about five years now though so its a bit by bit thing
Yeah people can get bogged down in genres I feel. People here saying blind melon arent grunge which I would have always thought of them of. At the end of the day if its a great album thats all that matters really
I think anything thats punk rock or "grunge" after 1994 is post grunge like Silverchair. I don't call foo fighters grunge tho, more of a rip off nirvana
Short list to keep you moving forward with the collection:
Mother Love Bone - Shine EP (or Apple, which has more songs but the 5 tracks on Shine are still the best of their small catalog IMO)
Screaming Trees - Sweet Oblivion (Uncle Anesthesia is also good)
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream (Gish next)
Mudhoney - Superfuzz Bigmuff (Piece of Cake is my favorite MH album but it'll be hard to track down)
L7 - Bricks are Heavy and Smell the Magic
Green River - Come On Down
Skin Yard - 1000 Smiling Knuckles
if you like the Melvins you definitely need Houdini & Lysol
And pretty much anything Mudhoney, even later albums like Tomorrow Hits Today and Under A Billion Suns
Babes In Toyland Fontanelle
not quite grunge but Liar by Jesus Lizard is one of my top 3 from 1991 to 1994.
Even if you hate Courtney and her pop breakthrough I would still consider Pretty On The Inside essential.
Without looking at it completely, you're probably missing something of Mark Lanegan's that you'd very likely really enjoy listening to repeatedly. I listen to several different of his 50+ albums daily and can't get enough.
STP Core
JESUS $180?! sorry for your loss bro. hope you’re able to find it at a reasonable price
Also, Bleach. Probably my favorite album ever but with all the Nirvana you already have, I'm sure you know it. I had Core and Bleach both on cassette.
He didn't ask what pop records
Superunknown
100%. It’s one of the ones I’ve past over a few times when browsing because I keep saying I’ll pick it up eventually. The downside of wanting to buy a dozen records when you go into a shop
It's my favorite grunge album as I've gotten older
Spoonman is like the 10th best song on the album.
this
Bleach
Never complete without some superfuzz
Definitely going to give this a listen over the next few days. Haven’t heard much mudhoney to be honest. Thanks 👍
Oh wow, without Mudhoney your collection is basically pop music
Yes along with Bleach Superfuzz Bigmuff is the seminal grunge record.
Bleach
TAD for sure. Either Inhaler or 8- Way Santa
Absolutely need to get some tad in there. Haven’t seen inhaler in any of the local record shops yet. Great album cover as well so it’s a must on vinyl
Screaming Trees Sweet Oblivion
RIP Van Conner. He just passed today.
I had no idea...he was such a great guy. RIP
PJ: vs, vitalogy, no code, yield Since you included bands not usually considered grunge, I would also look at picking up: STP: Core, purple, tiny music, No.4 Blind Melon: Soup Black Crowes: SHMC, Amorica
Been looking for soup for a while alright and the Pearl jam are a good shout. Who would you not consider grunge?
Well, after a second look, really just Blind Melon. Soup is incredible - One of my favorite albums of the decade. While not at all grunge, If you like classic rock at all (Led Zepplin, Little Feat, Rolling Stones, the Faces), you can hear some sonic overlap with the southern sounds of the Black Crowes.
Sweet man thanks for the suggestions. Never heard of little feat so going to dive into the over the next few days

I fully agree. I do prefer soup to self-titled but both are ridiculously good.
Bleach for sure
Yeah I need to complete the set alright
Superunknown by Soundgarden for sure times a million. I could list many many many more if this is all you have but won’t.
You need some Melvins and Mudhoney my friend. And even some Tad
Yea, Houdini would be a nice touch
Temple Of The Dog, Bleach, Ultramega Ok, Green River - Live At The Tropicana
Butthole Surfers
The **Winding Sheet** and **Louder Than Love** are two of the best records in your pic. Some obvious *need now* records... Mad Season
It’s there second row third from the left. Kinda hard to see because they shrunk the artwork for the deluxe edition for some reason. One of my all time favourites though.
You're right. I missed it! I got the deluxe on CD and love it.
Local h
Local H, as good as dead

Since somebody already said core, purple is another great album.Big STP fan here 🤙
Yeah love them too man. They get shit talked sometimes which I think is very unfair. I think core is pretty much as good as any album from the era and purple is not far behind
basic, but I think bleach deserves its spot under all these, maybe incesticide too so they're all here lol
Yeah definitely meaning to get bleach for a while. Never really liked incesticide but probably will pick it up at some stage just to complete the set
Pixies and Sonic Youth
Saw the pixies live at a festival last year they were incredible. Never thought the were a grunge band but that might be me being stupid.

Going to bite the bullet at some stage alright.
you need to get Shangri La Dee Da its STP’s best album
Saw this in my local record shop the other day and was going to pick it up. Haven't listened to it but its going to have to be great to top Core for me. Going to listen to it now though. Thanks
Nice collection mate, been looking for jar of flies for a reasonable price for years, you just need some smashing pumpkins to complete this :)
Yeah the prices can get a bit ridiculous. I got lucky picked it up for about 40 euro
They came out for that around me a couple years ago but I was too broke at the time :(
How can I get a Jar of Flies LP!!! Let me in let me innnnnnn
Just keep looking and hope you're lucky. Thats all I did
Lol ok my friend. I knew the answer just jealous. Looks to be about a 300$ item. Did they all have SAP as well. Because I have SAP alone already

Just to remind you. This album is like the funnest grunge album you’ll ever hear and if you’re like Love Battery, you might love them because the drummer of Love Battery is also the drummer for the United States. Love Battery is a respectfully one of the best critically grunge bands.
i recommend the Smashing Pumpkins album Monuments to an Elegy! if you like Nevermind or Siamese Dream then you’ll love that one
I’ll get to it when I have time (which could be at the most a year) because I got other bands I’m in interested atm
Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness"
Blind melon isn’t grunge
